Lindsay Lohan Accused of Battery in Rehab Melee, Claims Accuser Attacked Her First

Another day, another absurd story from Betty Ford. Lindsay Lohan is a suspect in a criminal battery investigation after getting into a scuffle … in rehab. The Palm Desert Police Department is investigating the altercation, which occurred after Lindsay and her roommates went out to A BAR and came back. Upon arriving at their sober house, the incident with a female staffer allegedly went down. Police were called after a ” hand-to-hand battery ” complaint. NOT MY FAULT! There’s always some excuse. [Photo: Pacific Coast News] Cops came to Betty Ford after receiving the call and interviewed both the staffer – who “desired prosecution” – and the oft-troubled star herself. It’s unclear if this was related to Lohan’s rager in rehab this month, but when police finish investigating, prosecutors will decide how to proceed. Whether they file charges is anyone’s guess, but she could be sent back to jail because she’s still technically on probation until August 2011. As for her side of the story, sources close to Lindsay Lohan claim she did NOT strike first, but she did push back in the “physical” altercation. Lindsay is telling people close to her that the drama unfolded when she arrived to the BFC on Dec. 12 roughly ten minutes after her curfew. Lindsay claims the female staff member was “unfairly” scolding her about the situation and demanded the actress take a drug/alcohol test. During the heated exchange that the woman “put her hands on Lindsay.” Lindsay claims she told the woman, “Take your hands off of me.” Then she “pushed back.” Police received a call early that morning, and the star was named as a suspect. The staffer wants LiLo prosecuted. Lindsay feels the staff member had it out for her for a while and believes the staffer may have even been “looking for a final confrontation.” It will be interesting to see this play out, but it’s as if Linds is trying to show we had her low at #8 on our Celebrity of the Year countdown.

Crystal Bowersox To Make Acting Debut On ABC Series

‘Idol’ alum will play an accused murderer in ‘Body of Proof,’ a medical drama premiering next year. By James Dinh Crystal Bowersox Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images Maybe she’ll fare better than Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini . “American Idol” season-nine runner-up Crystal Bowersox is trying her hand at acting with a guest spot on ABC’s soon-to-premiere medical drama “Body of Proof.” The singer/songwriter told The Philadelphia Inquirer she’ll play an accused murderer on the new series. “This is my first professional acting gig, other than the music videos we did on ‘American Idol,’ ” the 25-year-old said. ” ‘Body of Proof’ contacted me. They thought I’d be good for the role. Turns out, they think I can act as well. I’m happy for that.” Bowersox, who recently married musician Brian Walker , made an interesting discovery when she was given the script. “I laughed hysterically when I heard that the character I’m accused of murdering is named Brynn Walker. My husband is Brian Walker. He didn’t find it as funny as I did.” The Ohio native will play Zoe Reese, a woman winds up in jail after beating her drug dealer “to a bloody pulp.” The singer recently traveled to Providence, Rhode Island, to shoot her “Body of Proof” scenes, and the show is tentatively set to premiere in March, with Bowersox’s episode scheduled for April or May. While Mamasox’s debut album, Farmer’s Daughter, comes out in just a few weeks, the “Idol” alum explained that she always had acting aspirations growing up but decided to focus on music after her drama teacher said “some rude things” to her. Sam Humphrey, the writer of the episode, told the newspaper it was Bowersox’s not-so-traditional “Idol” appeal that initially sparked her interest. “What about Crystal Bowersox?” she recalled asking. “Maybe we could reach out to her. She’s a songwriter, and it seems like she has an old soul.” Will you tune in to see Mamasox’s acting debut? Tell us in the comments! In Memory of American Idol’s Semifinal Rounds: 10 Incredible Performances

Nigel Lythgoe is one of my favorite forces in reality television, but he announced a big mistake today: American Idol ‘s glorious semifinal rounds are no longer . Instead, this season’s live performances will begin with Top 12 week, and we’ll also be forced to watch as contestants compete in “music video” competitions. Horrifying, indeed. Without the semifinals, Idol loses so much great drama, intimacy, and some of the best performances in the season. Without further ado, let’s show Nigel Lythgoe how much he messed up and revisit Idol ‘s most incredible (and sometimes cringe-worthy) semifinal moments.

‘American Idol’ Music Rights Move From Sony To Universal

‘Idol’ artists’ albums will now come out on Interscope Geffen A&M. By Kelley L. Carter “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage Sony, you’re out. 19 Entertainment and Simon Fuller, the creator behind “American Idol,” have lined up a multiyear deal with Universal Music Group for its Interscope Geffen A&M division to market, promote and distribute “Idol” artists’ albums. The deal with Sony produced hits for Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, but Billboard.com reports that the chart-topping success for those two acts hasn’t been matched. Reuters reports that the deal is for a minimum of three years. “With ‘Idol’ celebrating our 10th season, I wanted to inject some new power and weight behind our brand,” Fuller said in a statement. “We have been quietly delivering hits relentlessly for nine seasons, and Lucian Grainge and [Interscope Geffen A&M chairman] Jimmy Iovine’s ambition, commitment and determination to push the boundaries and go even further with ‘Idol’ was very compelling. It is exciting to have the world’s biggest show partnered with the world’s biggest music company.” Since the show’s inception in 2001, “American Idol” has sold more music than any other TV show and has moved more than 100 million units in North America and more than 120 million songs on iTunes. “We like delivering hits and new artists,” Grainge said in a statement. “UMG and ‘American Idol’ is the right combination at the right time. Pairing the renowned expertise of Simon [Fuller] and Jimmy in developing and marketing musical talent creates a truly winning combination that will allow ‘Idol’s’ artists to realize their fullest potential.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

‘American Idol’ Finale Ratings The Lowest Since Season One

Just over 24 million people tuned in to see Lee DeWyze crowned the season-nine winner. By Ryan J. Downey Lee DeWyze performs as the new American Idol Photo: Kristian Dowling/FOX/PictureGroup/AP The last time an “American Idol” finale had this few viewers, Justin and Kelly were contestants. Just over 24 million people tuned in to watch last night’s conclusion of season nine, the smallest audience for an “American Idol” season finale since season one in 2002, according to a ratings report in Variety. The first season of Fox’s “American Idol” concluded with Kelly Clarkson winning the title over runner-up Justin Guarini. Since then, the show has created a small army of stars, not the least of which is judge Simon Cowell, who will not return for the show’s 10th season. While the season-nine finale bested the competition from other networks, its overall performance (which included the worst demographic scores in the show’s history, Variety reported) is the latest blow to the pop-culture juggernaut after a season filled with critical groaning over everything from song selections to host Ryan Seacrest’s behavior . It was the first season to feature Ellen DeGeneres as a judge, the first without Paula Abdul and the second with Kara DioGuardi. Lee DeWyze took the crown Wednesday night, though his victory was largely overshadowed by Cowell’s farewell. Also taking center stage was a string of high-profile performances, including ones from Janet Jackson , who sang new ballad “Nothing” and got her groove on for “Nasty”; Christina Aguilera , who transitioned from “Fighter” to Bionic single “You Lost Me”; and Bret Michaels , who told MTV News backstage that he hadn’t cleared his “Idol” duet with third-place finisher Casey James on “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” with his doctors.
