Avril Lavigne Describes The ‘Magic’ Of Working With Max Martin

Singer talks about recording Goodbye Lullaby with Swedish pop producer. By Jocelyn Vena Avril Lavigne Photo: MTV News Avril Lavigne asked “What the Hell” on her Goodbye Lullaby lead single, and she had a little help from a pretty impressive music-industry vet. For her fourth studio album, out Tuesday (March 8), Lavigne jetted off to Sweden to work with legendary pop producer Max Martin. “What was really great about working with Max was, I flew out to Sweden for a couple weeks, sat down, played him my record, got to know each other, wrote some songs together, and then I was out,” she told MTV News. “It switched it up for me. It was a new creative space, a new relationship, and we got a lot done. He’s very talented.” Martin, who has worked with everyone from Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson to Katy Perry, really seemed to click with the pop/punk princess. “He said some really kind things that really meant a lot to me,” she said. “He worked with so many people and he’s an artist, he’s very sensitive. We wrote a couple really special songs together.” In the process of writing those tracks, it seems that Martin and Lavigne forged quite a bond. “It’s kind of hard to work with someone new, and when I went in and did vocals on ‘Wish You Were Here,’ I did my first take, and then Max stood up and was like, ‘I’m so honored that you’re here.’ “And it was a really special moment, where he understood me and I understood him,” she continued. “We connected and had a really great time. And it was really magic my first trip there. He’s sweet.” What do you think of Avril Lavigne’s new music? Let us know in the comments! ‘American Idol’ vet teams up with ‘Telephone’ writer/producer for upcoming album. By James Dinh Kelly Clarkson Photo: Getty Images Kelly Clarkson told fans last week that she’s one song away from completing her brand-new album, and now it looks like that last tune may be the work of none other than super-producer Darkchild. “Taking today to prep the music for tomorrow’s session with @kelly_clarkson. Did a great song for her, can’t wait to get her vocal on it!” the producer tweeted on Monday. Darkchild (whose most recent megahit was Lady Gaga and Beyonc

Kelly Clarkson Influenced By Prince, Aretha Franklin, Others For New Album

‘I record my last song on the 25th of this month and then we will be releasing the album!’ singer writes on Facebook. By James Dinh Kelly Clarkson Photo: Billy Ingram/ WireImage It’s been a while since we’ve heard some new music from Kelly Clarkson . But according to the “American Idol” alum, that’s all about to change very soon as she’s one track away from finishing her new album. While the 28-year-old songstress has previously described the project as ” Garbage-meets-pop-meets-Muse ,” the singer has now come forth to reveal that the she’s been influenced by some of music’s greats, including Prince, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin, for the forthcoming LP. Taking to her Facebook on Monday to keep fans updated about the project, Kelly said that she’s one track away from completing her fifth studio album. “PS: I record my last song on the 25th of this month and then we will be releasing the album!” she wrote. “This album was influenced by Prince, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Radiohead and there’s a little bit of a Country vibe/influence on a couple of songs.” While the big-voiced singer wasn’t part of the Grammys’ all-star tribute to Aretha Franklin on Sunday, Clarkson revealed that one of her favorite tunes from her recent studio sessions was inspired by the Queen of Soul. “Oh and also one of my favorites on the new album is highly influenced by Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. Eric Hutchinson wrote it … the album is gonna be a great pop record! I can’t wait for y’all to hear it!” she wrote. Although she partnered with acclaimed songwriter Toby Gad for two tracks, the singer tweeted to fans that she did not re-team with pop maestro Dr. Luke (“Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes”) this time around. Last October, the pop star participated in an impromptu Twitter Q&A , where she teased details about the new album. Not only has Clarkson recorded two duets for the still-untitled album, but she’s also announced that she’s ready to hit the road again. When we spoke to songwriter Claude Kelly last year, he said they’re working on something different for the new album. “Well, I wrote ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ for the last album, so we’re trying to take it up a level,” Kelly said. “She’s toured the world with that album. She’s experienced stuff, so whatever she’s going through right now: fun, good, the bad, the ugly — we want to put on that record.” What type of sound are you hoping to hear on Kelly’s new album? How Would Simon Cowell Actually Critique the Superstars in the New X Factor Promo?

One interesting aspect of American Idol ‘s legacy is the angst leveled at contestants who haven’t become Billboard smashes. Is Melinda Doolittle less talented than Kelly Clarkson because she didn’t have a Hot 100 hit? I think not. It takes a certain type of skill set to emerge from a talent competition with untarnished durability (and credibility), and frankly, plenty of our singing superstars wouldn’t have made the leap. Let’s take a look at the new promo for Simon Cowell’s X Factor , which touts plenty of stars who have the all-important “It” factor (including Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga), and see how Simon would appraise them in a regular audition.

Ke$ha Pokes Fun At Disney In New Funny Or Die Clip

Pop singer plays a dirty Disney princess in online parody. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha in Funny or Die’s “Disney’s Princess Ke$ha” video Photo: Funny Or Die Ever wonder what it would be like if Disney gave Ke$ha her very own movie? Well wonder no more, since the folks over at Funny or Die have dreamed up a new Ke$ha-starring satire, “Disney’s Princess Ke$ha.” The clip opens with Ke$ha in a castle bedroom addressing her animated pals, complaining about her alarm clock waking her up. “Oh that clock. What a killjoy,” she says as she stares out of her window in the castle tower. Just as she begins singing a very Disney melody, she proclaims it “gross” and says “f— it,” before kicking off a signature Ke$ha-style tune, complete with her rap-sing style and club-ready beat. “Time to get the day going/ Dress it up to the nines/ Yo, critter crew/ Make Princess Ke$ha look fine,” she sings. “Add a little pinch of magic from my fairy-tale life and off we go.” Then she goes into the chorus: “I’m getting ready so nice / I’m getting customized.” The pop star is later catapulted into the real world. In an alley, she meets up with an animated rat, a pumpkin and a cross-dressing hobo fairy godmother. The rat and pumpkin are transformed into a shopping cart and a man who take off with Ke$ha. This is the singer’s second appearance on the site. Last November she appeared in a clip where she jokingly explained “The Story of the $.” “I used to be Kesha with an S, instead of a dollar sign, and then one year I had my birthday party at Shakey’s Pizza,” she said in the clip. “On the sign, the big sign where they write ‘Happy birthday,’ they replaced the S with a dollar sign. It ruined my life. I wanted to be a CPA, but you know who H&R Block doesn’t hire? People with dollar signs in their name. I pretty much had to be a pop star.” What do you think of Ke$ha’s latest Funny or Die video? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Ke$ha
