Kylie Jenner may be fully dressed (for once!) in a new Instagram photo. But the 17-year old has still managed to stir up controversy with it. Jenner took to her social media site on Saturday morning, snapped a selfie at a photo shoot and wrote as a caption “I woke up like disss.” The problem with the photo, according to at least one celebrity? Kylie is rocking cornrows in it. Wrote Hunger Games actress Amandla Steinberg in response to Kylie’s look: “@novemberskyys when u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.” Kylie’s sister, Kendall Jenner , came under fire in April of 2014 when Marie Claire also dressed the young star in cornrows and described the look as “epic” and “bold,” as if Kendall and that magazine had just invented it. Marie Claire went on to apologize for the incident. “@amandlastenberg Mad if I don’t, Mad if I do…. Go hang w Jaden or something,” Kylie shot back in response this weekend. Stenberg, of course, took Jenner’s longtime friends and once rumored boy friend, Jaden Smith, to the prom back in May. So there may have been some tension between these two long before Kylie did up her hair in the unique style depicted above. Stenberg, meanwhile, has been critical of other celebrities in a similar regard as she is here.
