Daniel Radcliffe And Jon Hamm Join British Miniseries

Actors will play younger and older version of Russian doctor in four-part dramedy ‘A Young Doctor’s Notebook.’ By Fallon Prinzivalli Daniel Radcliffe Photo: Getty Images What do Don Draper and Harry Potter have in common? They’re both about to become doctors. The Internet was buzzing earlier this month when rumors popped up that actors Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe were set to play the older and younger version of a Russian doctor in a four-part British miniseries set during the end of World War I. On Friday (May 18), Sky Arts , the network set to air the series in 2013, confirmed that we’ll indeed get to see Dr. HammRad in action. “A Young Doctor’s Notebook” is a dramedy based on a short-story collection by Mikhail Bulgakov, a Russian writer and playwright. “I have been an obsessive Bulgakov reader for a couple of years now,” Radcliffe said in a statement about the television program. “So when the opportunity to become involved in this project came up, I could barely contain my excitement. The book is funny, grotesque and heartfelt in equal measure and I look forward to working with a great group of people to help bring it to life.” Hamm agreed with his new co-star’s enthusiasm, saying, “I am thrilled to get the opportunity to work on such rich source material with such fantastically talented people whose work I greatly respect.” The actors will play the same character in different time periods, occasionally interacting with each other. The original rumors were reported by The Sun, which said the show “will incorporate dark humour as the doctor attempts to overcome self-doubts about his competence.” When MTV News spoke to Radcliffe last summer, he explained he’s attracted to darker tales because he finds them much more interesting. “I don’t want to make a boring love story about two people who meet and then are happy. That’s boring, and that doesn’t exist,” Radcliffe said. “I also do like playing slightly disenfranchised characters like Arthur is in ‘The Woman in Black.’ He’s someone who’s grieving and whose grief has put him to the edge of madness and also has sort of made him ostracize himself from society. I guess I like the dark stuff. I find it more interesting.” Hamm said producer Clelia Mountford and production company Big Talk have been “unabashedly” advocating for the series. “I share their great enthusiasm for bringing something original, dark, funny and moving to light,” the actor said. “Also, I have been watching ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ on infinite loop, and I think I’ve finally got this accent thing sorted…” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Cameron Diaz, Chace Crawford Know ‘What To Expect When You’re Expecting’

Stars share the strangest pregnancy facts they learned during filming. By Kara Warner Anna Kendrick and Chace Crawford in “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” Photo: Melissa Moseley/ Lionsgate As if the film’s title weren’t explanation enough, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” is all about what couples experience during pregnancy, based on the best-selling nonfiction book of the same name. Because the subject is a complex, loaded and almost universal one, when MTV News sat down with the castmembers from the film, we asked them to enlighten us with the most unique facts they learned about pregnancy during production. “I think the weirdest thing I’ve seen — I’ve actually seen it — is a woman getting on her hands and knees giving birth,” Matthew Morrison said. “It’s interesting, because you think about a woman [lying on her back] and pushing, but honestly, if you let gravity do the work, it makes it a little easier.” “The squat position, there is a purpose for it — not just to lift the butt and tone the quads,” added Diaz, who plays Morrison’s girlfriend and baby mama in the movie. “But to open the hips and pelvis and let gravity do the work. The only reason a woman is on her back in our culture is so the doctor can see what’s going on. I say get a platform, squat over it, let the doctor be underneath it.” “If you want the baby to come right now, eat spicy food,” Ben Falcone (“Bridesmaids”) said of one tip he’d heard mentioned that might speed up delivery. “Have sex,” said his onscreen wife, Elizabeth Banks. “Sprint,” Falcone joked. “Sprint uphill.” “A lot of running is encouraged,” Banks continued with a smile. “Slam doors. Get surprised. Surprise her, scare her.” Chace Crawford and Anna Kendrick provided the most to-the-point advice, but because their characters have to deal with an unplanned pregnancy, their words of wisdom were how not to get pregnant in the first place. “Wrap it up. That’s what we learned on this shoot,” Crawford said of practicing safe sex with the use of condoms. “Right?” he asked Kendrick, who collapsed into a brief fit of giggles. “Never mind.” “Sorry. You completely lost me,” Kendrick laughed, before regaining composure. “Yeah, wrap it up to avoid pregnancy. And stay away from Chace Crawford; he’s irresistible.” Check out everything we’ve got on “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Taylor Swift In ‘Les Miserables’: Fans Weigh In

‘I hope she can pull it off,’ one fan tells MTV News. By Tami Katzoff Taylor Swift imagined in the role of Eponine in the Broadway version of “Les Miserables” Photo: Broadway/ MTV News Taylor Swift has reportedly been offered the role of Eponine in Tom Hooper’s new “Les Miserables” movie, beating out more established actors including Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood. Opinion on the street (Broadway, of course) is mixed. Pennsylvanian Molly Washok, 17, is very pleased with the prospect of seeing Swift as Eponine on the big screen. “I seriously love ‘Les Miz.’ It’s a great Broadway musical,” she said. “And I’ve seen Taylor Swift in shows and I love her so much. I’m a big fan of both, so it makes me excited.” Long Islander Katie Kendrick, 20, is also a fan of Ms. Swift but not as certain of her chops. “I love Taylor Swift — I bought her CDs, I have everything. But I’m not sure she’ll be able to hit those notes that Eponine hits in her songs,” Kendrick said. If she’s cast in “Les Miserables,” Swift will join a group of A-list actors that includes Hugh Jackman, Helena Bonham Carter, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway. (Amanda Seyfried has reportedly been offered the role of Cosette.) Among these veterans, Kendrick noted, Swift would stand out as the novice. “Taylor Swift has only been in one movie and it was ‘Valentine’s Day,’ where she had a role for 10 minutes, tops. And all these other actors have been in numerous roles. They’re very well known in the acting industry while Taylor Swift is known in the singing industry,” she said. “I wish her luck, but I’m not sure she’ll be able to live up to the expectations that have been set previously.” Keely Kwok, 21, from Hamilton, Ontario, is willing to give Swift the benefit of the doubt. “She does have an incredible voice, I’ll give her that,” Kwok said. “It’s a really great musical, so I hope she can pull it off.” Twenty-one-year-old New Yorker Julia Menn was less diplomatic in her assessment of Swift’s credentials. “There are so many better people to play that part,” Menn said. “I’d prefer Evan Rachel Wood, actually. I think she’d be fantastic.” So would Menn see a Wood-less “Les Miserables” when it hits theaters this December? “Well, since Hugh Jackman’s in it, yes, I would.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Kendrick Lamar Kicks Off Hottest Breakthrough MCs!

Cali MC got a boost from Drake and Dr. Dre, but he didn’t rely on co-signs to make MTV News’ 2011 Hottest Breakthrough list — vote now! By Rob Markman Kendrick Lamar Photo: Getty Images/ MTV News The year started off with a bang for Kendrick Lamar . After appearing on the cover of XXL ‘s Freshmen issue and in MTV News’ New West coverage , the Compton, California, MC proceeded to show and prove. Now, K. Dot is a 2011 MTV News Hottest Breakthrough MC candidate. He may have received a co-sign from Dr. Dre, but Kendrick didn’t use the Doc’s glowing endorsement as a crutch. Instead, he hit the studio and in July released Section.80, a tightly woven independent album on which he examined his place in the world. Songs like the J. Cole-produced “HiiiPower,” the soulful “Kush & Corinthians” and the socially enlightening “Ronald Reagan Era” proved that not only is Kendrick one of the most exciting newcomers, he also has substance to rival most veterans. Not just message-heavy, Section.80 also displayed Lamar’s ability to spit raw rhymes on “Rigamortus” and “The Spiteful Chant.” Kendrick — who made his name releasing free music online — for the first time set a price point with Section.80 and sold it on iTunes. It was another mark of his growth. “It was something that I had to understand, that my company had to make me understand. I’m putting out this free music, constantly putting it out,” Lamar told MTV News back in July of his old way of thinking. “My whole thing is bringing music back to where people actually buy it, but at the same time, you know what? I don’t think I’m ready yet to start selling my project, because I feel the world don’t know me yet.” This year, thanks to his hustle, drive and, of course, overall talent, Kendrick is in contention. Aside from his solo material, the nimble-tongued MC has been working with Dre on Detox and landed key appearances on Game’s The R.E.D. Album, TechN9ne’s All 6’s and 7’s and his own solo track “Buried Alive” on Drake’s Take Care. In fact, Drizzy has taken such a liking to Kendrick that he has booked the budding MC to open for him during his Club Paradise Tour in 2012. Hottest Breakthrough MCs was established in 2010 by MTV News as a fan-driven initiative that spotlights, celebrates and cultivates new talent. MTV News chose a pool of young rappers and urged fans to vote for their favorite. When it was all said and done, Wiz Khalifa emerged as the Hottest Breakthrough of last year. The competition was tough, but the Taylor Gang General beat out runner-up Nicki Minaj, ATL group Travis Porter, Diggy Simmons and J. Cole. This year, you can vote for Kendrick (or your favorite up-and-comer) over at RapFix.MTV.com , and be sure to check back for daily updates and poll results. Each day, we’ll spotlight a new Hottest Breakthrough MC before we conclude December 13 when the polls close at 11:59 p.m. ET. The 2011 Hottest Breakthrough MC will be revealed during December 14’s “RapFix Live,” during which the winner will appear as our in-studio guest. There will also be a special announcement about MTV News’ upcoming Hottest MCs in the Game list and debate. To be considered a Hottest Breakthrough MC, an artist cannot have released a major-label full-length album. Finalists from 2010’s Hottest Breakthrough MCs poll will not be eligible for 2011 consideration, so unfortunately, Diggy Simmons and Travis Porter won’t be part of this conversation. Who do you think should be 2011 Hottest Breakthrough MC? Share your picks in the comments! Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick Lamar Explain #1 Rule Of Ghostwriting

‘Shhh, don’t tell nobody,’ Gibbs says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock Photo: MTV News The #1 rule of ghostwriting in rap is not to talk about ghostwriting in rap. Freddie Gibbs and Kendrick Lamar are not only two of the most exciting up-and-coming performers in the game, but dynamic writers as well, so it’s no wonder that others would enlist the two rap rookies to pen lyrics. Not that Gangsta Gibbs or K. Dot would reveal their list of clients. “Shhh, don’t tell nobody,” Gibbs joked on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live” when asked if he has ever writing lyrics for another MC. Still, show host Sway Calloway pressed on. “Is it a written agreement, is it a verbal agreement?” he asked. “It’s a money agreement with me. If your money ain’t talking, I’mma talk. I’mma bust you out and say, ‘Yeah, I wrote that for him,’ ” Gibbs replied before admitting that he has lent his pen to about five different artists since his rise through rap’s ranks. Kendrick was even more cryptic. Since his name started buzzing in late 2009, Lamar has been rumored to have written lyrics for some of the game’s biggest artists, but nothing has ever been confirmed. When Game dropped his R.E.D. Album on August 23, however, both Lamar and Jay-Z prot
