Phillies beat Yankees 7-1, take 2 of 3 (AP)

Kyle Kendrick kept the Yankees guessing, Shane Victorino homered and Placido Polanco made a sprawling catch Thursday night as the Philadelphia Phillies downed New York 7-1 to win the interleague series. The Phillies beat Andy Pettitte (8-2) and took two of three. Shortly before the first pitch, the giant video board in center field blared highlights from Pettitte’s victory over Philadelphia at…

Anna Kendrick ‘Sprinted Onstage’ To Accept MTV Movie Awards’ Best Movie

‘I didn’t know if I should go up at the end or not,’ she says of her small role in ‘New Moon.’ By Kara Warner Anna Kendrick Photo: Getty Images Anna Kendrick spent much of last year as a critical darling, rewarded with one nomination after another for her performance opposite George Clooney in “Up in the Air.” Despite all the acclaim, Kendrick seems convinced that most of her MTV fans still know her only as Jessica Stanley from the “Twilight” films. Judging by her visibly surprised expression upon hearing her name called for the Best Breakout Star at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards , the starlet appeared not to have considered the Twilighters’ voting power. “I am not cool enough to win an MTV Movie Award!” she said when she accepted her Golden Popcorn, beating out Chris Pine, Zach Galifianakis, Gabourey Sidibe, Logan Lerman and Quinton Aaron for the honor. “So I am not going to mess it up by talking any more than I should.” Later on in the show, Kendrick faced a similar self-conscious struggle in deciding whether she should join her castmembers onstage to accept the Best Movie award for “New Moon.” “It’s so weird. I’m not, like, a big part of the movies, and I understand people are in it for Rob [Pattinson], Taylor [Lautner] and Kristen [Stewart],” she told MTV News. “So I didn’t know if I should go up at the end or not [when the cast won Best Movie]. At the last second, I sprinted onstage. “I was really psyched to get Best Breakout,” she added. “That was so exciting, and then when [‘New Moon’] won, I was the idiot who crawled onstage at the last second.” What did you think of Kendrick’s win and acceptance speech? Would you have second-guessed getting up onstage with the “Twilight” cast? Sound off in the comments! MTV Movie Awards Fashion Face-Off: Nikki Reed vs. Anna Kendrick

Last night, MTV aired its annual movie awards. Really, though, the show could have been titled the Twilight Saga Event. It featured the first-ever public kiss between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, along with appearances by Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli, Nikki Reed, Anna Kendrick and others. Kendra was honored with the evening’s Breakout Star trophy… but will she also come out on top in this fashion face-off? We’ve pitted her against Reed and have left the results up to THG readers. Vote below. Who looked best on the red carpet?

Will Zach Galifianakis Be MTV Movie Awards’ Best Breakout Star?

‘Hangover’ funnyman will have to get past Gabourey Sidibe, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Logan Lerman and Quinton Aaron to claim the prize. By Jocelyn Vena Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Bradley Cooper in “The Hangover” Photo: Warner Bros. What happens when you pit two Oscar nominees, a starship captain, a teen demigod, a high school football hero and a pants-shedding funnyman against one another? Well, you get the race for Best Breakout Star at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards , airing live this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. And while the case can be made for any of these fine nominees, it’s really up to fans to crown their favorite to take the Golden Popcorn in this category. “Twilight” fans already knew Anna Kendrick as Bella Swan’s chatty pal Jessica, but the actress showed she could hold her own as an overachieving young professional opposite George Clooney in “Up in the Air.” Kendrick’s Natalie sets out to prove she has what it takes to make it in the corporate world. Now, Kendrick will try to do the same at the awards show. Chris Pine had big shoes to fill when he stepped in to play Captain Kirk in last year’s “Star Trek” prequel/reboot. But Pine’s modern take on William Shatner’s iconic role won him raves from Trekkies, who’ll no doubt be pushing for him. But it wasn’t only Pine who expanded his fanbase in the sci-fi universe. Logan Lerman’s starring role in “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” garnered him buzz as a possible contender to play Spider-Man in the next installment of the franchise. Pine showed he was boss on the starship, but Lerman, who kicks butt as a teenage demigod, is no lightweight. After her turn in the gritty “Precious,” Gabourey Sidibe went from relative nobody to Academy Award nominee. The dark, sometimes disturbing flick highlighted Sidibe’s range and made her a newcomer to watch. Another first-time actor, Quinton Aaron, won Sandra Bullock’s heart (and American moviegoers’) in “The Blind Side,” the surprise box-office smash about a homeless young man who turns his life around, thanks to a generous Texas family. But while Aaron’s character Michael scores on the gridiron, stiff competition will make winning much harder at the Movie Awards. Zach Galifianakis took on a tiger, a baby, a gangster and even Mike Tyson in “The Hangover.” What’s a couple of actors to this funnyman? Galifianakis is hilarious as the often pants-less Alan Garner, who kicks off a bachelor party by spiking his pals’ drinks. He may be the breakout star to beat. Who are you pulling for to win Best Breakout Star? Tell us in the comments! Don’t miss the live red-carpet coverage, exclusive movie clips and fist-pumping action on MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” airing live from Los Angeles this Sunday, June 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Then stay tuned for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
