DJ Khaled Denies Rick Ross/ Young Jeezy Beef

‘Beef … we’re here to get money. We’re here to make great music,’ Khaled tells MTV News. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Rob Markman DJ Khaled Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images DJ Khaled just released his fifth album, We the Best Forever, which features contributions by Rick Ross and Young Jeezy . But not on the same track, which shouldn’t be surprising considering the two rappers have an ongoing feud. But according to DJ Khaled, that is no longer the case. “They don’t have a beef,” Khaled vehemently told MTV News. “That’s people that would probably try to stir things up that have a beef. First of all, Ross is my brother. Jeezy is a great friend of mine. And if they did, I would be the guy in the middle [that would] be like, ‘Stop!’ That’s just what I do. Beef … we’re here to get money. We’re here to make great music. What’s beef gon’ do? But if somebody disrespects you and try you, you gotta do what you gotta do. It is what it is. But we hope it don’t come to that in life. And that’s just in any situation.” Despite the Miami DJ and producer’s assertions that there is no friction between Jeezy and Rozay, the relationship between the two rappers can be described as cold at best. It began in August last year when Jeezy released the freestyle “Death B4 Dishonor.” Rapping over the instrumental to Ross’ hit “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast),” many speculated the lines “How you blowin’ money fast?/ You don’t know the crew/ Oh, you part of the fam?/ Sh–, I never knew,” were aimed at Ross. However, the Snowman said that was not the case. Since then, both have taken jabs at each other in song and in the press. Then in November 2010, footage appeared of Jeezy in Miami rhetorically saying, “Where is your favorite rapper at?” when he was asked about Ross. To this Ross told U.K. DJ Tim Westwood, “If you really have an issue, put it on the table and handle it like a G.” Nevertheless, Khaled, who has had his own issues with 50 Cent , is so confident in his skills at musical diplomacy that he feels he could get the Snowman and Rozay on a song together right now. “I’ve done it plenty of times already,” Khaled, who featured both Ross and Jeezy on two songs (“Fed Up,” “Put Your Hands Up”) from his 2010 album Victory, said. “Of course I could. You want me to go make one, no problem I’ll go do it. Matter of fact, I’ll do it just for the fun of it. But absolutely I can do that. Ross is my brother, and Jeezy is my brother. That ain’t no problem, that’s easy.” Related Artists DJ Khaled Rick Ross (Hip-Hop) Young Jeezy

Rick Ross’ Upcoming LP A ‘Classic In The Making’

‘He is talking that talk, ‘ DJ Khaled tells MTV News of Rozay’s God Forgives, I Don’t. By Rob Markman Rick Ross and DJ Khaled Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Rick Ross has seen his star rise with each release, and for his upcoming album, God Forgives, I Don’t, his buddy DJ Khaled promises a classic. Rozay isn’t finished recording and the LP doesn’t have a release date yet, but Khaled — whose album We the Best Forever is in stores this week — is already making big predictions. ” God Forgives, I Don’t is a classic-in-the-making. Let me tell you something right now: This album is so crazy from the beginning of what I’ve been in the studio hearing already,” he told MTV News on Wednesday (July 20). “I can’t give you too much because I’m going to let him do that, because that’s his project, but I could tell you right now it’s classic and he is talking that talk. ” As far as Ross’ albums go, it has been a year since his last LP, Teflon Don, was released, but the rotund Miami rapper has kept a high profile, releasing his Maybach Music Group project Self Made, Vol. 1 in May. Compilation singles like “Tupac Back” and “Ima Boss” have kept Ross on the charts, as well as songs on which Ross is featured (Lil Wayne’s “John” and Khaled’s “I’m On One”), have kept the Miami MC on the airwaves. Khaled noted his homey’s growth, telling us the Bawse gets better with each album. ” God Forgives, I Don’t, it fits the time because right now it’s no rules,” Khaled said. “We don’t see ’em; we going hard and that’s what Ross is doin’.” Are you looking forward to Ross’ album? Drake Talks ‘Crafting’ DJ Khaled’s ‘I’m On One’ Collabo

‘That’s the first time anybody has ever heard all three of us on a record,’ Drizzy tells MTV News of teaming with Rick Ross, Lil Wayne. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ricky Louis Drake Photo: MTV News Drake is such a nice guy. When DJ Khaled approached Drizzy to appear on a track off of his upcoming Cash Money album, We the Best Forever, the Thank Me Later MC wanted to lend something memorable to his friend’s project. The result, “I’m On One,” Khaled’s latest single featuring Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and, of course, Drake. “Khaled waited, like, forever and a day. I was taking my sweet time trying to craft this piece of music because I knew he needed a special moment,” Drizzy told MTV News at the song’s video shoot in Miami. “When I did it, I was like, ‘OK, it’s gotta be me, Ross and Wayne.’ That’s the first time anybody has ever heard all three of us on a record.” After leaking the song onto the Internet on May 12, Khaled and company were out shooting the video for “I’m On One” this past weekend — just 15 days later — and that fact isn’t lost on Drake. “To be out here shooting a video, it’s amazing how things work nowadays,” he said. “I used to make music and never think anyone was gonna hear it, now I make music and two weeks later, we’re shooting crazy videos in Miami, living the life.” Aside from working with Wayne, who Drake is signed to and frequently shows appreciation for, the Toronto-born rapper spoke on his admiration for his “brother” Rozay. “That’s one of my favorite people to rap with in the world,” Drizzy said. “That’s family the same way YM is family, the same way that OVO is family,” he said, name-checking his Young Money and October’s Very Own teams. “Ross know what it is, MMG all day, I hold that close to my heart.” What do you think of “I’m On One”? Lil Wayne Calls Shooting ‘Welcome To My Hood’ Video ‘Scary’

‘I don’t know about these n—as, but I’m scared of heights,’ he tells MTV News on the set of DJ Khaled’s single. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by James “FLX” Smith Lil Wayne on the set of DJ Khaled’s music video for “Welcome To My Hood” Photo: MTV News Even though the track ” Welcome to My Hood” dropped just two weeks ago, DJ Khaled wasted no time getting his superstar homies to the M.I.A. to shoot the accompanying video. Khaled — along with Lil Wayne, Plies, Rick Ross and T-Pain — headed to the Overton area of Miami on Thursday to shoot the ‘hood-centric visual and told MTV News that the clip will reflect the same rugged bombast of the posse cut. “We going in,” he said, with his trademark hype-the-hell-out-of-everything energy. “This the movie: ‘Welcome to My Hood,’ biggest record in the country, hurtin’ the streets right now.” Director Gil Green, who has helmed tons of Khaled visuals, said the video will demonstrate what the Miami DJ is known for: packing his visuals with A-list hip-hop names. “DJ Khaled, he always brings the all-star team, and that’s what he’s doing today,” he said. Green added that he was on hand to add artistic finesse to the clip. “We shooting a movie-type video — a lot of cinematic camera work and flavor and a lot of ‘hood stuff.” Frequent Khaled collaborator T-Pain said the single from the We the Best Forever star’s first Cash Money project is a follow-up to another major record, which also features the Auto-Tune king, alongside Trick Daddy, Ross and Plies. “This one’s special, ’cause everyone was asking for ‘I’m So Hood’ part two, and that’s what we giving everybody,” Pain explained. “So, you know, in due time, we gonna get to everyone’s request, but right now, we just working on ‘I’m So Hood’ part two, ‘Welcome to My Hood.’ It’s part two, and it’s gonna do just as good as ‘I’m So Hood.’ ” “I’m So Hood (Remix)” alum Wayne was also around for the fun — although he did cop to getting shaken up while filming one of the scenes on a raised platform. “We just shot a shot up there; it was super scary,” Weezy said. “I don’t know about these n—as, but I’m scared of heights.” Aside from briefly facing his fear for a dope “Hood” shot, Wayne, who was accompanied by Cash Money boss Birdman and Young Money honcho Mack Maine, maintained he was feeling good otherwise and admitted he had another mission to tackle off set: finding ladies. “I’m fresh out,” he said. ” … Holla at ya boy if you see me in the streets, baby.” What do you think the “Welcome to My Hood” video will look like? Martin Luther King’s Legacy Recalled By DJ Khaled, Bun B, Saigon

‘We should take every day and praise what King did for us,’ Khaled says of civil-rights fighter. By By Mawuse Ziegbe, with additional reporting by Hillary Crosley DJ Khaled Photo: Ben Rose/ Getty Images Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s tireless crusade for civil rights is synonymous with the social upheaval and progressive change of the 1960s. He’s since become a global icon and figurehead of a revolutionary movement, and even though he is no longer with us, his game-changing legacy is still strongly felt — especially in the hip-hop community. In celebration of Martin Luther King Day, MTV News reached out to a few rap names who reflected on Dr. King’s lasting impact on today’s stars, both personally and professionally. “Martin Luther King is definitely one of my heroes,” Brooklyn MC Saigon said. “He was a black leader and he took the road and responsibility to step up and do what a lot of us other men didn’t have the courage to do. It took a lot of courage to do what he did at a time when racism was very relevant. As he did lose his life, he knew there was a good chance he would lose his life taking the stand he took. He epitomizes standing for something — he’s the epitome of that.” Saigon, who name-drops MLK in his recently released single “Clap,” added that Dr. King’s efforts continue to inspire him as a rapper and, as he maintained, a de facto role model for today’s youth due to his public profile as a hip-hop artist. “That record is just an uplifting record. It’s trying to carry on what he left off, because he died untimely but he left enough for us to carry the torch,” he explained. “I think that’s what a lot of those leaders did. Rappers are the new leaders, so I think we should come in that same vein and still be about the growth and the development of our people and our community.” UGK O.G. Bun B noted that he may feel closer to Dr. King’s struggle since he’s “probably a couple years older than the average MC.” He maintained that much of America’s race-relations progress is intrinsically linked to the late leader’s fight. “I remember in my generation and the generation before me, the dream being that one day, being a black man, that no doors would be closed to you in this country and in this world. I’ve been around long enough to see that almost every door in this world has actually opened up, all the way up to the most powerful man in the world, the President of the United States,” he said of the country’s first African-American commander in chief, Barack Obama. “There are many achievements that Martin Luther King really would be very happy to see … but at the same time I still think we have ground to cover in this country.” Bun added that Dr. King’s work has also helped to foster an inclusive society, which prompts MCs to create music that anyone can relate to. “We do shows nowadays in not just the inner-city community but in every community, and we see people of every color and all walks of life at our concerts now. That’s due to the fact that we try to make music that invites everybody to be a part of the movement,” he explained. “You don’t have to be black to be ‘trill.’ ” Miami’s DJ Khaled also said that he strives to reflect the harmonious spirit Dr. King’s work engendered — especially in his star-studded posse cuts that can corral everyone from Usher to Plies on one track. “I celebrate [MLK Day] by giving respect and just reminding people [about] the word ‘peace’ and the word ‘love’ and unity ’cause, you know, that’s what I represent,” he said. “I love bringing people together with my records. That’s why you get sometimes these collaborations that you’ve never seen before come together on a Khaled record ’cause they just got ultimate respect for what I do. Martin Luther King is a person that I respect, that we respect, everybody respects.” Khaled added that upholding Dr. King’s legacy shouldn’t be a one-day event, but rather an effort that people should incorporate into their everyday lives. “I think we should take every day and praise and look at what Martin Luther King did for us, for us to be on this Skype right now and kick it, multicultures and just vibe,” he said. “It’s beautiful, so shout-out to MLK, everybody that support Martin Luther King, and R.I.P. to Martin Luther King and respect to Martin Luther King.” Share your thoughts on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the comments! Lil Wayne Surfaces On DJ Khaled’s ‘Welcome To My Hood’

Rick Ross, Plies and T-Pain also appear on the Miami DJ’s latest posse cut. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lil Wayne Photo: Getty Images Lil Wayne is getting back to one of the things he does best: tricking out collabos with his trademark lyricism. On Thursday (January 13), DJ Khaled’s latest star-studded posse cut and first Cash Money offering, “Welcome to My Hood” hit the Net , featuring bars from Weezy, fellow Florida rappers Rick Ross and Plies and rumored Young Money signee T-Pain . The track, crafted by the Renegades, Khaled and the Nasty Beatmakers, features the victorious, speaker-shattering, hometown-pumping energy typical of the DJ’s all-star collabos, with Pain belting lines like, “Everybody know everybody/ And if I got it, everybody got it,” over the steely, bass-heavy beat. Ross leads things off, balancing glossy images of Audemars Piguet-laced wrists and mortgage-payment-sized bar tabs with grimy street operations, wrapping up with, “The Ferrari just a front/ Got the Lambo in the back/ Told you we the best forever/ DJ Khaled handle that.” Plies follows with a souped-up, eardrum-busting flow, detailing the exploits of his city’s hardened thugs. “I know some n—as from my ‘hood that would’ve rocked Noriega/ I’m taking Noriega, n—a, the real Noriega,” the Fort Myers rapper spits about hometown hooligans capable of ripping apart the infamous Panamanian politician and drug kingpin — not the Queens rapper Noreaga. Wayne closes the track with lyrics that reference his return to the game — and Khaled-helmed collabos — after his 2010 prison stay . “Back from hell, cell 23/ Tell the warden kiss my ass, pockets are Mo’Nique,” Weezy rhymes, shrugging off the drama of the jail bid. He also briefly touches on the 2007 weapons arrest that landed him in the pen, spitting, “Sh– happens, and since I’m the sh–, I’m who it happened to.” The I Am Not a Human Being rapper finishes with lines about his single-minded focus on re-conquering the game, rhyming, “All that bullsh– is for the birds/ Throw some bread out/ Got it sewed up/ Check the thread count.” Khaled hinted to MTV News last year that the first single for the forthcoming We The Best Forever would get the Wayne treatment. “When I work with Wayne, I always get the most classic verses, like ‘We Taking Over,’ ” Khaled said. “And this verse with my new one, it’s … I’m not even gonna lie: It’s amazing. “It’s one of them anthems that I do,” he added. “The streets are gonna embrace it on another level. When you hear it you’re gonna be like, ‘This is what I’m talking about.’ It’s that anthem, I got them.” What do you think of DJ Khaled’s “Welcome to My Hood” record? Let us know in the comments!
