Wiz Khalifa And Snoop Dogg’s ‘That Good’ Video Hits Net

First clip from duo’s upcoming ‘High School’ soundtrack shows kush-loving MCs enjoying baked goods. By Jayson Rodriguez Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa looks like he’ll fit in just fine in Los Angeles. The lanky Pittsburgh rapper recently announced plans to relocate to the West Coast this year, and in his and Snoop’s new video for “That Good,” Wiz plays the part of Cali OG to the fullest. The Taylor Gang head takes in the green ways of Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound’s Daz Dillinger in the clip. “I’m smoking everywhere I go,” Wiz sings over the breezy production while seated at a kitchen table with Snoop and company poring over medicinal items. The video, which shows Snoop and Wiz cruising around town in a haze of smoke, serves as the first visual offering from the pair’s upcoming movie and soundtrack, “High School.” The joint project was originally announced earlier this month with no release date or title. Then, in an interview with DJ Skee Snoop revealed the movie title and suggested the flick would go straight to DVD in time for an April 20 release — a nod to smokers — but the “That Good” clip ends with a message saying the project will arrive in June. On Skee’s Hip-Hop Nation radio show, Snoop further explained that the concept of the LP and movie was a union of generations. “We decided to go ahead and say, ‘You know what? Let’s do a movie and a soundtrack and just become, you know, bosom buddies and do what we do, ’cause we love what we do and we love each other and at the same time we know what the people want,’ ” Snoop said. “The people want to see the two generations come together where hip-hop ain’t about old school and new school. It’s just about good music and making good moves and putting something out there that’s classic where people can respect it and say, ‘Yeah, so now, this was some gangsta sh– that really made hip-hop gradually grow to another level.’ ” Although Snoop’s collabos with Wiz have been keeping him busy, the Cali vet also has a solo project on the way: The Doggumentary album is due March 29. Wiz Khalifa Praises ‘Black And Yellow’ Producers

‘They know how to make hits, man,’ Wiz says of Sweden’s Stargate production team. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News With “Black and Yellow,” Wiz Khalifa went from heralded underground artist to one of the biggest new stars in hip-hop. The Pittsburgh upstart’s hometown anthem was powered by the synth-heavy sounds of pop production team Stargate, best known for their work with Ne-Yo, Beyonce and Chris Brown. Wiz’s woozy vocals and the melodic “Black and Yellow” musical slate proved to be a winning combination. “It was just a good mixture,” Wiz told MTV News about working with the Swedish producers. “When we got in the studio, I think the first day in the studio with them I did two songs and a hook. They kept throwing me beats and I kept knocking out hooks and verses over them. So I think just the vibe was there. The music that we were making is real potent. It was like, ‘We got to do it [and collaborate].’ ” The rapper made his name with a series of mixtapes and independent albums, including Show and Prove and his breakout, Kush and Orange Juice . His frenzied fan base, which have been dubbed The Taylor Gang, have been on board with the lanky artist for years now. Recently, though, his latest material — with a little help from Stargate — has seen Wiz in some high-profile company. Snoop Dogg, T-Pain and Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J shared the mic with Wiz on the “Black and Yellow” remix . “They know how to make hits, man,” he said of the Stargate team. “They know how to put a song together. So I learned to do my part and let them do their part. And that’s when it goes crazy. ‘Cause I do a lot of different things when I record my music. And they go back and we narrow it down. And that’s how those big songs come out.” How do you like Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” remix? Tell us your opinion in the comments. Related Artists Wiz Khalifa

Black and yellow?) as the green-thumb lyricist spits choice rhymes about baked goods and such. “Never treat you wrong, to each his own,” Snoop, sporting a black-and-yellow varsity jacket embossed with a giant “S,” raps on the breezy number. “Snoop and Wiz, the new Cheech and Chong/ We up in smoke, making street schemes/ Smoking sticky green, having sweet dreams.” “Black and yellow, ahh, black and yellow/ See me now they treating me like I’m somebody special,” Wiz follows Snoop on his verse. “Smoking on that good, know it’s me soon as they smell it/ You can chill/ I’m the one who get it, not the one who sell it/ I grind every day, I’m balling/ I can’t help it/ N—as on that bullsh–, my pockets full of Celtics.” The pair recently re-teamed for “That Good,” which also arrived online this week; the track is the first offering from the duo’s forthcoming movie. Snoop Dogg Talks Wiz Khalifa Collabo Movie ‘High School’

Cali veteran says straight-to-DVD project will hit shelves April 20. By Mawuse Ziegbe Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa are taking their pot-powered friendship to the big screen. The Cali spitter recently revealed details of the upcoming movie, which drops in April on a very appropriate date for two herbal enthusiasts. “[I’m] working on something with my nephew, Wiz Khalifa. We working on a movie called ‘High School,’ which will be out 4/20/2011, straight to DVD, ya dig?” Snoop told Hip Hop Nation’s DJ Skee . A movie following the adventures of Wiz and Snoop nearly ensures a dope soundtrack will accompany the flick, and the duo dropped the project’s first offering, “That Good,” on Tuesday. “[I’m] just trying to spread my wings and fly a little bit,” Snoop explained of teaming up with Wiz for the cinematic venture. “Do a little something for the old school, the new school, the true school. You know, just try to stay true to who I am and just make that good sh–. You know what I’m good for.” Snoop, who has been on Team Taylor for a while, also added that he was proud to see the Pittsburgh MC break out as a rising rap force to be reckoned with. “It’s beautiful to see him gradually grow from somebody that’s hustling to the whole world starting to pay attention and respect him for who he is. To see him get that attention and that respect and that world renown that he deserves is a beautiful thing,” he beamed. “Now he just gotta stick to the script and keep making hot sh– and, you know, stay on course.” Snoop also commented on the laid-back lyricists’ many similarities — from their beanpole frames to their botanical extracurricular activities — and explained that the movie idea sprung from teaming up on projects like Wiz’s “Black and Yellow” remix . He added that joining forces was not just good for the MCs, but a good look for the rap game in general. “We decided to go ahead and say, ‘You know what? Let’s do a movie and a soundtrack and just become, you know, bosom buddies and do what we do ’cause we love what we do and we love each other and at the same time we know what the people want,’ ” he said. “The people want to see the two generations come together where hip-hop ain’t about old school and new school. Kings Of Leon Tour Bus Fire Postpones London Show

Fire began on one bus, spread to another in O2 arena’s loading area. By James Dinh Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Kings of Leon scorched the charts with their hit song “Sex on Fire,” but on Tuesday morning (December 21) it was their tour bus that caught fire, forcing the rock band to postpone their sold-out O2 arena show in London. According to BBC News , the fire began on one coach in the venue’s loading area before spreading to another bus; eventually, the buses were completely burned out. Sixty firefighters and ambulance crews were on-site, and six people were treated for excessive smoke inhalation. There were no serious injuries reported. While the fire didn’t impact the seating or stage areas of the O2 arena, the entire venue had to be evacuated. A spokesperson for the O2 addressed the incident: “Unfortunately due to this morning’s fire on board one of the tour buses at the O2, tonight’s Kings of Leon concert will now be postponed,” said a statement on the O2 website. “Whilst there is no damage to the O2 there is now insufficient time to rig the arena for tonight’s performance.” The spokesperson emphasized that the crew had worked hard to follow protocol and made every attempt to go on with the show, but found there simply wasn’t enough time to set up for the evening performance. A rep for Kings of Leon said that Tuesday’s concert in London had sold out “months ago,” and a new date would be announced shortly. Related Artists Kings Of Leon

So for a follow-up to his breakout hit “Black and Yellow,” it only makes sense he tap a resource he’s familiar with. “The next single is called ‘Roll Up,’ surprisingly,” he told MTV News with a laugh. “Really, I just needed another single and we were trying to come up with a look and then me and [my manager] talked about it,” Wiz continued. “We talked about it for three minutes. And then I came up with that song.” The track is slated for release on his forthcoming debut album, which is yet-untitled but tentatively scheduled for a March release. “I’m definitely looking forward to my next single coming out,” Wiz said. “I’m looking forward to my album dropping in late March, which is gonna be exciting for me and the Taylors worldwide. Like I keep saying, always keep building on top of my brand, keep doing what I’m doing and make new fans.” The MC is currently in Los Angeles, where MTV News visited Wiz and Snoop Dogg as they shot the video for the remix, or G-mix, to Wiz’s “Black and Yellow.” “Black and yellow, ahh, black and yellow/ See me now they treating me like I’m somebody special,” Wiz spits on the remix. “Smoking on that good, know it’s me soon as they smell it/ You can chill, I’m the one who get it, not the one who sell it/ I grind every day, I’m balling, I can’t help it/ N—as on that bullsh–, my pockets full of Celtics.” Snoop sent a picture to Twitter of the pair partaking in some smoke-filled activities while in the studio over the weekend. “Tha Dogg N @RealWizKhalifa blowin’ like a broke stove, ya digggggggg?!?!?!” Snoop wrote. Wiz Khalifa ‘Went Out On A Limb’ Turning Down Drake Tour

‘I figured I’d try a different method, and it ended up working for me,’ he tells MTV News of opting for his own headlining jaunt instead. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa said he went with his gut when he turned down Drake’s offer to open for him on the Light Dreams and Nightmares outing, instead embarking on his own headlining effort, the Waken Baken Tour. With only a handful of dates left and after a series of sellouts, the Pittsburgh rapper is pretty sure he made the right call, even being named MTV News’ Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010 . “I went out on a limb and went with my gut feeling,” Wiz told MTV News. “It was risky when you go for what you know, but it’s really easy to take the hand from someone. Not saying I didn’t want it or couldn’t use it, but I figured I’d try a different method, and it ended up working for me.” Over the weekend, the “Black and Yellow” MC held court at New York’s Best Buy Theater, where he was joined by his brother in arms, Curren$y, and Big K.R.I.T. for the Hot 97-sponsored showcase. The lanky lyricist said Los Angeles and Phoenix were among the standout shows during his tour, which also featured stops in Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta. Phoenix, however, was the top moment, according to Wiz. “Honestly, it might be weird, but Phoenix, huge reaction out there,” he explained. “Every show was [great]. “It was crazy,” he added. “I felt like I was on TV when I was out there.” Do you think Wiz made the right call in skipping Drake’s tour? Wiz Khalifa Recruits Snoop Dogg, Curren$y For Debut Album

Waken Baken MC tells MTV News he expects spring 2011 release. By Steven Roberts, with reporting by Sway Calloway Wiz Khalifa Photo: MTV News Wiz Khalifa’s debut LP is easily one of the most-anticipated albums of 2011. The Pittsburgh MC has built an impressive following, allowing him to sell out shows nationwide on his Waken Baken Tour and crash the Internet whether he’s dropping a mixtape or getting arrested . Wiz told MTV News his album is crazy, and promised fans he hasn’t forgotten what made him successful. “I’ve been working on it every day since I’ve signed with Atlantic,” Wiz said. “The main feel of the album is still homegrown. I’m keeping it organic. “I’ve got to stick to what I know, what I’ve been doing. My main producers have been doing the bulk of the album, and it’s majority done. We’re just doing the big songs now, putting some of the features together, but really it’s more personal. You get to see me and feel me more as a person, but it’s still that same edgy, that same rawness that people dig.” Wiz said Curren$y and Snoop Dogg are slated to appear on his still-untitled LP, which he expects to be released in spring 2011. He said that when he played the record for people in L.A., he received a positive reception. “Every song, they were like, ‘Man, This is going to the radio. You could go to the radio with that,’ ” Wiz recalled. “So they are good songs, but they are also songs that are going to be accepted widely.” Wiz said two songs he’s excited about are “Rooftop” and “The Race.” He said “Rooftop,” which was recorded in L.A., looks back at where he came from and where he is now. “The Race” was recorded back home in Pittsburgh and has his trademark cool vibe. “The song ‘The Race’ is just a ‘swag’ song, like an attitude, ‘doing what we do’-type thing,” he said. Wiz Khalifa Declines Drake’s Offer To Join Tour

The Pittsburgh MC tells XXL he’s flattered but has to ‘keep focusing’ on his own work. By Mawuse Ziegbe Wiz Khalifa Photo: Rostrum Records It looks like fans will have to wait to catch Drake and Wiz Khalifa on the same bill. In a much-watched Ustream convo with fans on Thursday, Drizzy extended an invitation to Khalifa to join his upcoming Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour . However, the Pittsburgh MC said he won’t be added to the Nightmares lineup, which also features Clipse and Bun B, and has decided to focus on his own Waken Baken string of dates. “No disrespect to [Drake] or anybody else who might wanna see me do some more collaborative things, but to keep building and keep my brand as strong as what it is, I gotta keep focusing on what it is,” Khalifa told XXLmag.com on Friday (August 20). “This is my first tour that I got coming up, the Waken Baken Tour. I gotta at least kick that off and make that what it is so we can do 10 more.” The Kush & OJ MC clarified that although he’ll be working the performance circuit solo, it’s all love when it comes to Drake. Khalifa confided that Drizzy’s offer proves he’s on the right track. “Just the fact of cuz even extending his hand and me being on his radar is tight to me. It just lets me know that I’m doing what I need to be doing as far as staying relevant and staying poppin’,” Khalifa said. “But I think to keep me poppin’ and keep me relevant I gotta stay building on top of what I’m doing and what I been doing.” Khalifa also added that he needs to stay on his grind until he can stack paper like Drizzy. “I was looking on the Internet and [saw] that [Drake] made $10 million this year,” Khalifa said. “So maybe when I make $10 million, then we can tour.” The MC added that while he won’t be an official Nightmares act, he may make a special appearance in certain cities. “We can do like some special dates or some surprise guest-type thing, but I need 10 mil too, Drake,” Khalifa said, ribbing the Toronto lyricist. Drake Confirms November 5 Lil Wayne Homecoming Concert

Drizzy also pleads with Wiz Khalifa to join him on Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour during Ustream broadcast. By Mawuse Ziegbe Drake Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage Drake is doing it big right now. The Toronto MC’s debut album, Thank Me Later, is platinum, he’s about to headline his upcoming Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour and he’s just notched 1 million Twitter followers. With that type of success, there’s probably very little that is out of the lyricist’s reach. But Drake revealed that there is one thing he wants that he hasn’t been able to secure yet: snagging Wiz Khalifa as his tourmate. “I had a little bit of a fan moment, I tried to get this third cat on my tour,” Drizzy told more than 30,000 fans who logged on to check him out live on Ustream on Thursday (August 19). The broadcast came on the heels of the premiere of his “Miss Me” video with Lil Wayne. Apparently, Drake was keeping his plan to add another act to his tour on the low. “You know we was trying to get Wiz on the tour,” he said, simultaneously informing listeners and his team who were hanging out in the room and clearly didn’t know what he was referring to. The MC then addressed his fans once again: “Hopefully, the Light Dreams [and] Nightmares Tour, depending on what city we go to, it’ll be Clipse, Bun B and Wiz Khalifa . That’s what I’m hoping. I don’t know, maybe I spoke too soon.” Clipse were already confirmed to join the Young Money MC on the road, along with Houston O.G. Bun B, when the tour kicks off on September 20 in Miami. The chart-topping singer and rapper asked the “Hottest Breakthrough MC” directly about possibly joining the fall tour. “If Wiz by any chance watches this, you gotta make some calls for me and make this happen,” Drake said. “We got that young energy right now, we need to go out here and kill these people.” In addition to making his plea for a more Taylor Gang-friendly Light Dreams tour lineup, the MC said he really wants to work with producer 9th Wonder on the follow-up to Thank Me Later. “9th, can we start this next album please?” Drake asked. “Because I know you in the studio,” he added, urging the North Carolina artist to work on his sophomore effort, which Drizzy hopes to release by next year. The rapper also revealed that he initially wanted the ex-Little Brother beatsmith to contribute to Later, but wasn’t able to make it happen. “I’d greatly appreciate it if we could get some work done because I know last time we weren’t able to do that.” While his touring and production rosters are still up in the air, Drake said he could confirm to fans that one particular event is a definite: a homecoming concert for Lil Wayne. “November 5, the Welcome Home Weezy concert,” Drake said. Although he didn’t reveal the location, Drizzy assured fans they wouldn’t want to miss it. “That’s gonna be crazy,” Drizzy smiled. “I told you I got you. I would never just Ustream and talk about nothing.” Do you think Drake and Wiz Khalifa should tour together? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Drake Lil Wayne Wiz Khalifa
