8-Year-Old Pays Off Lunch Balances Of Less Fortunate Classmates An 8-year-old elementary school student with a big heart made an extraordinary gesture of kindness recently when he summoned his mom to help him raise money for other kids at his school who couldn’t pay their lunch balances. via AOL News An 8-year-old Michigan boy is warming hearts with his act of kindness for fellow students – by paying off their lunch accounts. Cayden Taipalus told WXYZ how he got the idea. “I was in lunch one day getting lunch. And a kid in front of me didn’t have enough money, and they had to put their tray down. And that made me sad, so I went home and asked my mom, what can I do to help?” And with his mom’s help, they were able to get a page on a fundraising site called FundRazr. Cayden’s initial goal was to raise enough money to pay off the lunch accounts for as many kids in his elementary school as possible. As of Sunday morning, Cayden had raised more than $1,600. On top of paying off lunch accounts, Cayden’s mom says her son hopes to put extra money into them. On Friday, Cayden’s mom told WXYZ that her son has been able to help pay for almost 300 school lunches. The school’s principal told the outlet that any student who can’t afford their lunch will still get an alternative lunch, but added he’s happy to see one of his students helping out others. Kudos to this kind-hearted little lad but aside from that…..are these schools really out here letting kids go hungry because their parents can’t pay to feed them school lunch? There HAS to be a better way around that….

Ready to be inspired, THGers? Dylan Siegel is a seven-year old whose best friend Jonah has tragically been diagnosed with a rare illness called Glycogen Storage Disease Type 1b. It’s a live disorder that cases very low blood sugar and for which there is no cure. Jonah is one of only 500 kids in the world with the disease and he must be fed through a tube every few hours. Because Dylan describes his friendship with Jonah as “awesome as a chocolate bar,” he has written The Chocolate Bar Book, sold it across the world… and raised over $600,000 for research into the illness. Says Dr. David Weinstein of the Florida lab that is receiving these proceeds: “It is now reality. It’s not just a dream that these children can be cured.” Pretty amazing story, huh? Michelle Duggar has come out and admitted that she suffered from bulimia as a teenager. The revelation about this reality star is actually shared in a book by her daughters – “Growing Up Duggar ” – which comes out March 4 and which initially disguises their mother’s struggles belonging to someone named “Marie.” “On the outside, Marie had what everyone else wanted, but on the inside, she felt sad and empty,” Jane, Jill, Jessa and Jinger write, adding: “She began to envy the girl who tried to control her weight through what turned out to be a destructive eating disorder. Not realizing how dangerous it was, Marie thought it might work for her, and soon her obsession to stay thin started controlling her life.” Many celebrities, of course, have battled eating disorders over the years. Demi Lovato checked into rehab for hers and Ke$ha is currently receiving professional help for one. As a teen, Michelle struggled for “self-acceptance,” according to the book, and it “led her into some difficult emotional times and a very destructive habit that could have destroyed her health.” Michelle and Bob Duggar are the parents of 19 kids and have shared chronicled their lives on TLC for many years. “I have been open with my struggles with the kids before,” Duggar tells People. “We talk about how God has brought us out of different things along life’s way. When the girls were writing their book, they brought this up and I thought, if my sharing it is going to help another young lady, then I want to share it.” Michelle says that she would spend three hours per day doing cheerleading and gymnastics a a student, but the weight remained and she would therefore force herself to vomit after many meals. She met and fell in love with Bob when she was 17 and she was open with him about her disorder as soon as her feelings became real. “I would call him,” Michelle says. “He told me to call him anytime. I just know that I would be tempted and I would have the crazy thought that I wanted to throw up, not hold onto the calories. Thank God it didn’t go on longer than it did or I could have done horrible damage to my body.” Duggar says she is now healthy and gives credits to Weight Watchers – chiefly its methods of accountability – for maintaining pounds in a healthy way. “That solid accountability with another human being, a deep love and strong focus, was where I found freedom,” she says. “I was willing to be accountable before God and man. But the struggle was still there. That accountability was powerful.”

Yuck… We’ll stick to solo selfies from now on. The growth in popularity of group selfies is being blamed for the spread of lice amongst teenagers. According to NY Daily News reports : Are teenagers spreading head lice when they put their heads together to capture the perfect selfie? This idea grabbed headlines when Marcy McQuillan, who runs two Nitless Noggins lice treatment centers in California, told SFist about a spike in head lice among high schoolers. “Every teen I’ve treated, I ask about selfies, and they admit that they are taking them every day,” she said. So, is there really a booming lice epidemic, and are selfies the root of the problem? Experts who spoke to the Daily News were skeptical, but said it was possible that shooting a side-by-side selfie could spread head lice. “In all likelihood it is not the cause of an epidemic, but it is not impossible that it can happen,” Lice Treatment Center’s co-founder Liz Solovay said. Solovay explained that a person could get head lice if he or she put his or her head next to someone whose hair has tons of live lice. However, the chances of this happening “are not high,” she said. Nancy Gordon, CEO of head lice removal company Lice Knowing You, says she has also seen an increase in the number of cases among teenagers, but doesn’t think selfies are necessarily to blame. Instead, the infestations could be caused by the constant “togetherness” of teenage girls. “They work in close proximity,” she said. “They are constantly sharing clothes and hair products.” She also pointed out that teens often greet each other with hugs. And if one person in a group of friends has head lice, he or she won’t tell the others, she said. Others believe McQuillan may have had ulterior motives for spreading the information. “This is a marketing ploy, pure and simple,” Dr. Richard J. Pollack of the Harvard School of Public Health told NBC News. “Wherever these louse salons open a new branch, there always seems to be an epidemic. It’s good for business.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there’s no reliable data about how many people in the U.S. get head lice, but the parasites are estimated to affect 6 million to 12 million children ages 3 to 11 annually. Dang, life just isn’t getting any better for AI . According to RadarOnline reports : NBA’s infamous bad boy Allen Iverson lost a legal battle with his former attorneys after he refused to pay for their help on his nasty divorce filing, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting. Tawanna Iverson, Allen’s ex-wife, filed for divorce back in June 2011 and the nasty divorce wasn’t settled until over a year later in Jan. 2013 — during at which time the judge who finalized the split shed the guard in a less than favorable light. “[Iverson] does not know how to manage the children; has little interest in learning to manage the children and has actually, at times, been a hindrance to their spiritual and emotional growth and development. For example, he has refused to attend to an obvious and serious alcohol problem, which has caused him to do inappropriate things in the presence of the children while impaired,” the judge wrote in the divorce decree. “He has left the children alone without supervision. He has left his young daughters in a hotel room with men who are unknown to the mother.” Iverson allegedly refused to pay the firm over $60,000 for their services — so the firm sued him in a Georgia court and won against the baller on Oct. 30, 2013 to the tune of $64,892.61, which is the principal amount plus interest. But Iverson hasn’t paid up yet, so the firm filed a lien against him on Nov. 7. We really feel for those kids and poor Tawanna. That guy is the epitome of how your ego can rob you of EVERYTHING. We just hope he gets it together at some point before it’s too late to repair his relationship with his kids. That’s something you can never get back!
