Life of Kylie premieres in just over a week — August 6th is that close, you guys — and it won’t be until we actually see all 8 half-hour episodes that we can truly tell whether it’s a success or not. No matter what you think of Kylie Jenner herself, you have to be wondering what the show is going to be like and just how authentic — or otherwise — her portrayal is going to be. On social media, we see exactly what Kylie wants us to see — even if that includes her nipples . Well, thanks to a Calabasas local, we now have a little more information about Life of Kylie . According to Hollywoodlife ‘s source in Calabasas, Life of Kylie is all about Kylie Jenner as her own person rather than as part of the Kardashian clan. In a way, you’d think all of the splinter shows are about independent brands, right? Remember the short-lived Kocktails with Khloe ? That was more or less just about Khloe and her guests. But it has to be different for the youngest sibling. Especially when Kylie is the youngest of six . “Kylie does not want to blow her chance to truly separate herself from her famous family.” We’ll elaborate on that in a moment, but … Kylie’s issues as youngest daughter aside, that makes a lot of very sound business sense. “She sees her new show as her big opportunity to break away from her older sisters’ shadows.” Remember, Kylie was 9 when Keeping Up With The Kardashians started filming. This is her first time taking the reigns on her television image. “Kylie loves her entire family dearly but also wants to make her own mark and brand.” Don’t we all? (Unless you have family issues, but that’s totally your business) So the phrase “blow her chance” is sort of interesting, right? On the one hand, it could just mean that she’s unlikely to get a series greenlit again any time soon if this one tanks. (Honestly, we know Kylie Jenner’s net worth — she could hire a crew and producers herself if she really wanted to, but that’s another story) On the other hand, we all know that fame can be fleeting. Kylie has grown up famous and has to be very conscious of all of this. With the Kardashian family past its peak, she needs to ride this fame wave and use it to launch her career. Think of singers like Justin Timberlake who’ve left boy band acts to pursue solo careers to great success. Kylie needs to do something similar, stepping out of not just Kim Kardashian’s shadow, but her entire family’s. And speaking of her entire family … well, there’s more than one reason to separate your brand from them. Sometimes brands, even the ones that made you famous, can turn toxic. After Rob Kardashian’s revenge porn attack against Blac Chyna , it should be more clear than ever that the Kardashian brand isn’t what it used to be. With the Kardashians seeming to close ranks despite their anger, it’s possible that Rob’s antics could help tank their already waning brand. Some fans will be fans for life, sure. But a brand is only strong so long as its attracting new fans and, ideally, making more fans than it loses. Some of the family’s storylines are basically over. Kourtney and Scott … well, it seems unlikely that they’ll ever get back together. Khloe’s weight loss journey’s been over for ages. Kim is now a married mother of two, with a third baby on the way . Rob clearly has a host of issues, including rage, poor impulse control, and alleged domestic violence. Kendall is first and foremost a model — she mostly just does her own thing. Kris is unchanging and eternal, as always, but that’s not enough for the whole family. Honestly, Kylie is a lot more interesting than some of her family, anyway. She’s affectionate with her dogs, she keeps up with social media. She’s also become a makeup mogul as a teenager, which is kind of bonkers . Kylie isn’t necessarily wise when it comes to her love life, but people follow her for her , not for her no-name boyfriends who only gain recognition after dating her. She doesn’t seem to want to have her own career in the sense that Kendall does, where Kendall has a job where her name helps her but she’s doing the same things that her fellow models are doing. Kylie wants to be a titan of industry — both makeup and reality — on her own. Almost as a rival to her siblings. And you know what? That little upstart might be able to pull it off. That Jenelle Evans sure is a piece of work, isn’t she? Sure, she’s come a long way — we’re like 99% sure she’s not doing heroin anymore, and that’s a big achievement — but girl’s still got some issues. One of those issues, maybe even the biggest one, is the way she seems completely incapable of seeing the reality of any given situation. For example, you know that whole thing where she’s been on a reality show for years now, which means that there is video evidence of so many things that have happened to her? Even despite that, she still tried to rewrite history in her new book, Read Between the Lines: From the Diary of a Teenage Mom. In one section of the book, she writes that when her oldest child, Jace, was an infant, her mother, Barbara Evans “convinced me to go out with my friends so I could relax.” She says she “should have been suspicious,” but she “took the bait” anyway, and then stayed out all night with her pals. The next morning, Jenelle claims that Child Protective Services was waiting for her at her home, and her mother had lied and told them that she went out partying every night. And that’s why Babs got custody of Jace, because she set Jenelle up. Never mind that on the show, we did see her go out partying night after night, we saw her leaving her baby at home and acting like it wasn’t a big deal. And we even saw her sitting down with a lawyer to sign custody over to her mother, and it wasn’t at all an ambush like she described it. Now that we’re all refreshed with how delusional Jenelle can be, let’s move on to the news of the day: this new, heartbreaking interview poor Barbara just did with People. In the interview, good ol’ Babs talks about her daughter’s upcoming wedding — Jenelle’s marrying David Eason in September out on their swamp. “She’s been saying she’s having her wedding , running around with her family of friends, but you know what she says?” Barbara asks. “‘My mother Barbara is not invited.’ She’s not inviting me to her own wedding. It’s very painful .” She also says that Jenelle isn’t inviting her older brother and sister, either. “I’m just hurt with Jenelle,” she continues. “She just excludes us out of her life. Jenelle is Jenelle. She’s all about Jenelle.” She adds that the last time she spoke to her was three weeks ago: they had a conversation about Jace’s birthday party next month. It’s just sad, isn’t it? Barbara has given up so much of herself to raise Jenelle’s son while she’s gone out to smoke weed, do heroin, pop pills, and pop out two more kids. You’d think she’d be a little bit grateful, but nope. Instead, Jenelle gives interviews about how she’s “lost all respect” for her mother because she won’t just drop Jace off at her house and move on. “I told her,” Jenelle has said, “if you want to be back in my life in any way, you can give me back my son and we can start from there.” Except Jace will be 8 years old next month, and Jenelle’s only started turning her life around recently. Also, there are lawyers and judges involved at this point — it’s not like Barbara is some evil witch who kidnapped Jace and is holding him in a tower somewhere. In reality, she’s been the only parent Jace has ever known. But, like we said, Jenelle has a hard time with reality. Everybody loves to criticize the Kardashians — even other celebrities. Sometimes, especially other celebrities. Keke Palmer knows what it’s like to face constant social pressures to change your appearance, but there’s clearly no love lost between her and how the Kardashians react to that same pressure. And she goes after Kylie Jenner, specifically. While it’s clear that Keke Palmer has a lot of empathy for the bullying that Kylie received as a world-famous child, Keke also drags Kylie for the way that she’s responded. So, Scream Queens star Keke Palmer, who turns 24 next month, gave an interview about social media pressure. Celebrities, but especially black women who are celebrities, have to put up with a lot of online harassment. (It turns out that sexism and racism don’t cancel each other out! Who knew?) Basically, Keke — who is gorgeous — has been given every piece of unsolicited “advice” that you can imagine and some that you can’t, via Twitter and Instagram. Some of it’s blatantly racist (or, in some cases, colorist — which can happen within ethnic communities), like “bleach your skin.” Other times, it’s just the way that society treats people to view women. (And the way that the quasi-anonymous nature of the internet makes people feel that they’re entitled to send people this sort of “feedback”) People have told her to gain or lose weight, to wear more or to wear less, to do one thing with her hair or to do another. She’s also been famous since she was a minor. So when she talks about online bullying, she knows exactly what she’s talking about. Keke Palmer says that she finds it “absolutely hard” to remain authentic, citing social media pressures that seek to drag people down. “Everybody wants to make everybody so crazy, stupid, ugly, or dumb.” That’s so true. People like easy categories for people, and that’s even truer for celebrities. They also want to drag people down in order to feel powerful and to feel better about themselves. “So often [famous] people feel like, you know what, I’m just going to beat [haters] to the punch and either degrade myself or be so damn perfect they have nothing to say.” That’s so sad but she’s absolutely right. “We’ve seen extremes of that. In the sense of the Kardashians, it’s like I’m going to show you so much and be perfect and be everything a woman should be or everything a man would like or love.” Some people are “perfect” just for themselves. Others seem to be responding to external criticism. We know that Kim Kardashian in particular pays careful attention to what the world is saying about her at any given moment. It led to her making a tweet and then a full video to shut down rumors that she does cocaine . Keke has found her own response, though. “And I’m going to be exactly that so you can’t bully me anymore.” That’s a great attitude. Though, like, it’s probably easier to talk like that when you’re really, really gorgeous — as Keke is. Kylie Jenner stands out among her family — and not only because she’s trying to use Life of Kylie to break away and build her own brand. She’s the queen of Snapchat, she’s arguably the most influential teenager in the world, and she’s also the youngest. “Specifically in the situation with Kylie, where you’ve had a young girl people have seen on television since she was a kid and they literally told her she was so ugly … the ugly person in the family.” Keke’s spoken about Kylie like this before. People can be so cruel to celebrity children. It’s absurd. Remember, we live in a world where vile trolls have called Blue Ivy “ugly.” (She isn’t, but even if she were, that would be unconscionable to say) Keke does take issue with Kylie’s response, though. “She went and did apparently everything the world deems as beautiful.” That’s pretty true. Sure, different people have different opinions. (For some, they’d prefer Kendall Jenner’s figure to Kylie’s. Others might prefer Ashley Graham’s or someone else’s) But if you look at Kylie’s lips and hips and ever-larger boobs, it seems that she adjusts to what she perceives that her fans want from her. And Keke thinks that it’s bonkers. “The even crazier part is that everybody loves her for it.” That’s true — right now, Kylie’s arguably more famous for her appearance and social media presence than she is for her family. We’re not trying leap to Kylie’s defense by any means. Like, we’re all just brains piloting golems made of meat and bone, and some of those flesh prisons look a little nicer than others. So scrambling to appease your fans by radically altering your body is kind of “letting the terrorists win” in Keke’s eyes, and we totally get that. But … we’re probably only decades away from living in a world where basically everyone can adjust their appearances pretty radically. It’s okay that Kylie doesn’t look exactly like her genetics would have made her look, you know? The issue, and we think that it’s Keke’s issue, too, is that Kylie seems to have changed less for herself and more to respond to social pressures. (Though we do have to admit that, when bullying becomes especially intense, what you want for you and what they want for you can get harder and harder to tell apart) Overall, though, Keke Palmer makes a very fair point. PS: You guys, Keke’s been on everything from True Jackson VP to Scream Queens , but my personal favorite thing that she’s ever done was a low-budget horror film with Liz Gillies and Jeremy Sumpter, titled Animal . Remember the good old days of Khlomar? Sure, things ended terribly for Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom, and yes, it turned out that things were never actually that great for them, either. Khloe has said that she managed to keep a lot of Lamar’s issues private for longer than we know, and they’ve both been open about how he cheated on her. But still, there was a lot of love between them, and when things were good, they were so good, you know? And that’s why it’s a little surprising that Khloe is reportedly freaking out about the possibility of Lamar writing a tell-all. To back up a little, yes, Lamar has confirmed that he’s working on a book. He told Hollywood Life that the book would be an “autobiography of my life,” and that he’s “looking forward to that.” When asked exactly what would be included in his story, he said “Everything! Everything! Just everything!” “Open about everything, everything that has been going on in my life! About the facts!” He sure seems excited about it, right? And goodness knows he has plenty of material. He could write about his basketball career — several ups and downs there — and his troubled childhood. He could write about his 2015 overdose, how he very nearly died in a brothel . We imagine that information could sell some copies. He could also write about the Kardashians. And that seems to be an issue. According to a source, Khloe’s entire family is “very concerned about this tell-all book,” and they have “reached out to ask him to be respectful.” “Lamar has spoken recklessly about her family in the past,” the source says, so “Khloe fears what major secrets he could reveal.” “While Khloe and the rest of the Kardashians try to live a good life, they are no saints.” … Is that supposed to be a shocker? “Like any family,” the source continues, “they have skeletons in their closet which could seriously hurt their brand if revealed.” Their “brand” was started with a sex tape Kim Kardashian made with Ray J . How much lower could they go? Maybe Lamar knows that he’s usually a pretty sympathetic figure, and he has dirt on Khloe he could twist to his advantage. Or maybe since he used to be so close with Rob Kardashian, he knows some things about him that the family wouldn’t really want to be made public. It’s hard to say exactly what they’re afraid of. It’s also hard to say whether or not Lamar will take it easy on them. For the most part, he’s been nothing but respectful about the entire family — but he’s also been very honest about how upset he’s been about losing Khloe . Right now, most of the fallout from Rob Kardashian’s revenge porn extravaganza is impacting Rob himself. He made himself awful to his family and to the world, and he may suffer some serious legal consequences. But it turns out that Blac Chyna may have gotten herself into a complicated legal situation with her Good Morning America interview — and it might come back to bite her. Because this whole situation wasn’t already messy enough, right? This whole situation is, indisputably, hard on Blac Chyna. She’s having issues with her ex, Ferrari . He seems pretty sleazy. She’s getting (and it sounds like fairly) called out for hypocrisy by Pilot Jones , another ex. But, strangely enough, what some worry might end up getting her into trouble is a simple TV interview. Why? Because Blac Chyna may have violated her non-disclosure agreement during her Good Morning America interview. What NDA, you might ask? The one that she signed before she ever appeared on Keeping Up With The Kardashians . Now, no NDA on the planet is supposed to legally enjoin people from reporting crimes or testifying about witnessing crimes. (Not that our legal system always works out like it’s supposed to) But there’s a difference between discussing something in court and going onto a news show to talk about Rob Kardashian’s horrible behavior . When ABC news reached out to Kim Kardashian, Kim’s representative responded … with a copy of the NDA that Blac Chyna signed. That NDA includes an agreement to keep their private lives private, which doesn’t exactly go hand-in-hand with discussing it on Good Morning America . Now, that’s not a declaration of intent to sue. But it’s something . The closest thing to a warning shot that the Kardashians have fired during the past eight days, really. At the moment, we don’t know that the Kardashians are willing to go after Blac Chyna for a possible breach of contract. First of all, given the nature of what she discussed, it would look bad. Like, really bad. Right now, on the surface, they’re pushing their products like it’s business as usual. Beneath the surface, they’re apparently furiously trying to keep Rob under control . (We’re sure that the White House would love any tips to prevent emotionally volatile men from tweeting out self-incriminating rants in the wee hours of the morning) We suspect that they’ll watch how this all plays out before they make a decision. Now, it’s possible that the NDA doesn’t apply here, for one reason or another. You’d really need to ask a team of lawyers who’ve gone over the NDA. And we suspect that Blac Chyna must have done some research, because it was days before she broke her silence in that interview. Ultimately, if a lawsuit over NDA-violation is possible, even if public opinion is turned against Blac Chyna at that point … we don’t know that it will happen. Blac Chyna is and will always be the mother of Kris Jenner’s granddaughter. A lawsuit under those circumstances might be kind of counterproductive from Kris’ point of view, you know? When we saw this, we absolutely cracked up. (Ugh, cocaine pun not intended) Just yesterday, Kim Kardashian denied that she does coke via Twitter, all because of what some social media sleuths spotted on her Snapchat. She said, at the time, that it was just candy. Well now Kim's changed her story a bit, and she's posted a series of Snapchat videos that build up to a dramatic reveal of what Kim now says looked like cocaine. We hope that you enjoy the video below as much as we did. You're welcome. We worry when people have too many explanations for why they're innocent, you know? You usually want to find just one believable explanation and stick with it. But, first, a quick refresher: Because there's been a lot of news between yesterday and today. Kim Kardashian took to Snapchat to promote her products, because of course she did. That's who she is. After spotting what looked like two lines of a suspicious white powder reflected in the mirror behind Kim, some followers began to wonder if Kim had slipped up and shown a couple of lines of unsnorted cocaine on the countertop behind her. And the rumors spread. As you may recall, we didn't find this scenario super likely. First of all, Kris Jenner didn't raise her children to clumsily expose hard drug use to the world. Oh, they all have some minor social blunders from time to time. But of all six of her brood, only Rob Kardashian can be honestly said to be bad at social media . And then there's Kim's general disposition. Technically, yes, she's maybe dabbled at smoking weed in the past. But she's now a married mother of two. And she also claims to not even like the taste of alcohol. (She probably needs to order some tastier drinks, but whatever) Kim caught wind of the rumor, and yesterday she tweeted out her denial, and claimed that what appeared to be white powder was candy. She even named the candy store — Dylan's Candy Shop. But it was later, in her Snapchat videos, that she walks people through “Okay, guys, I just got back to my hotel room, and look at this table: Same position — it is still there!” She is, of course, referring to the pair of white streaks that look an awful lot like a suspicious white powder. After some gentle parenting, Kim holds up evidence that she really did go to Dylan's Candy Shop. “So, we did go to Dylan's Candy Shop. I did think that it was our pixie sticks.” Note that past tense — she now has a new explanation. (Anyone else getting flashbacks of that one weirdo in middle school who would try to snort pixie sticks? What a waste of sugar) The next part zooms in on Kim's proposed explanation. But you know what? We don't want to spoil the surprise. For the record, even though she changed her story, we totally believe her. (After seeing this, we realize that if they ever reboot Matlock , Kim would be an amazingly inspired casting choice for the titular character) But this whole thing is super funny. We hope that you get a laugh out if it, because we sure did. And it sounds like Kim did, too.
TLC is the cable home to many little people, a lot of kids, some Amish folks and a slew of wedding dresses. The network airs more reality programs than any other network we can think of on television, which means it's time to determine the very best TLC has to offer… … and the very worst. Moreover, there are few bigger First World Problems in the world than a woman worrying over just how many thousands to dole out on a gown she’ll wear once. 14. Counting On We would not argue with anyone who wants to slot this show in to last place instead. It was creepy enough to watch The Duggars on 19 Kids and Counting. But it’s downright messed up that the network continues to make money off this family after that sordid Josh Duggar molestation scandal. 13. Long Island Medium Psychics are fake. And psyches on TV are even more fake, if that’s possible. 12. My 600-lb. Life Could you argue that this series is exploiting the severely obese? Yes, of course. But nearly all reality shows exploit one type of person or another. In this case, the medical, emotional and physical obstacles that folks weighing over 600 pounds encounter on a daily basis really does take us inside a world we know little about. 11. Kate Plus 8 No, really! This show is still on! That douchebag Jon Gosselin may be gone, but often-angru and always-controlling Kate Gosselin is still irritating us on a weekly basis. 10. 90 Day Fiance We don’t expect dating shows to be realistic or anything.
