Amar’e Stoudemire may not be able to co-exist successfully with Carmelo Anthony on the basketball court, but the power forward hopes things are different between him and Alexis Welch. Because the couple is now engaged! The Knicks star Tweeted confirmation this week that he proposed to Welch – who he met way back in 2002 and who is the mother of his three children – on June 3 during a vacation in Paris. “There were rose petals leading to a balcony with a 365-degree view of Paris,” Welch tells The New York Post . “He had an acoustic-guitar player. He had a saxophonist. This is another side of Amar’e that people don’t get to see.” Added Stoudemire, who popped the major question with a 8.5 carat ring: “When she said yes, it was surreal. I’m still floating. #engaged.” The baller was linked in late 2010 to Amber Rose and has also been a rumored love interest of Ciara. But now that he’s set to settle down, only one question remains: Will the Knicks ever contend for a title again?!?

On ‘RapFix Live,’ Kim recalls when late pop diva offered her protection from a stalker: ‘She was so sweet about it.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil’ Kim Photo: Uptin Saiidi / MTV News Lil’ Kim has stories for days. On Wednesday’s “RapFix Live,” the Queen Bee buzzed about her career, the things she’s done and the people she’s met. When a fan asked about Whitney Houston , a bright smile came upon Kim’s face and the memories came flooding. “Oh my goodness, I absolutely adored and loved Whitney Houston,” Kim gushed about the late icon. Turns out, at one time, Kim and Houston shared something in common — crazed stalkers. Once Houston learned of an obsessed fan who would leave creepy gifts at Kim’s doorstep, “The Bodyguard” actress offered her own personal bodyguard to help protect the female rapper. “Whitney Houston called me, and she was like, ‘Kim, I will send my guy, because remember when that stalker was in my house?’ ” Kim said, reenacting the conversation with her best Whitney impression. “She was so sweet about it,” Kim remembered. That wasn’t the only time the Hardcore MC and the pop diva bonded. Kim also recalled a time that she ended up on the same flight with Houston and her then-husband Bobby Brown. Surprised to see the femcee, Brown suggested Houston sit next to Kim so they could have a bit of girl talk. Kim excitedly agreed, but Whitney wasn’t in the mood for much conversation — or so she said: “She was like, ‘Girl, I’m not much of a talker,’ ” Kim recalled. “In my mind, I’m like, ‘This is Whitney. I don’t care, she can still sit there. I’ll just look at her.’ ” Kim’s dog Diamond was the icebreaker, however, and after Houston sat the pooch on her lap, she began to open up. Seems like Whitney was in the mood for some girl talk after all. “By the time we got in the air and they were getting ready to serve dinner, she had talked me to sleep,” Kim said, laughing. “She was so down to earth, so beautiful.” Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ Welcomes Back Lil’ Kim Related Photos Whitney Houston: A Life In Photos Related Artists Whitney Houston
‘Jeremy Lin is definitely going to get a documentary,’ actor/director Michael Rapaport tells MTV News of Knicks star. By Rob Markman Jeremy Lin Photo: Jim McIsaac/ Getty Images Everyone loves the underdog, and right now, there is no bigger underdog story than that of New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin. The Taiwanese-American NBA star went from the very end of New York’s bench to basketball’s hottest topic with his inspired play. “Jeremy Lin is a shining star right now. It’s good to see somebody — he got that story behind him,” Fabolous told MTV News at a Brooklyn video shoot. “I think a lot of people, even myself, when you first heard it, you didn’t know if it was a fluke thing or sometimes a kid has a good game and they beef it up, but he’s actually playing well.” Lin emerged in early February, leading the struggling Knicks on a seven-game winning streak, scoring a ton of buckets along the way and capturing the hearts of b-ball fans across the world. Everyone from boxing champion Floyd Mayweather to President Obama has weighed in on Linsanity, and during the NBA 2012 All-Star Weekend in Orlando, it was all anyone could talk about. “Great person, great guy. It’s great for New York, it’s great for the team,” La La Vazquez Anthony, television personality and wife of Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, told MTV News. “Everybody there is so happy. ‘Melo’s happy about it.” Actor and film director Michael Rapaport attends many Knicks games, and he, too, is caught up in the Lintensity. “I got a picture with him the other day. I felt like I was a 12-year-old girl who saw ‘NSYNC in ’95, I was so excited,” he said to MTV News on the red carpet before the All-Star Game. Athletes from all over have taken notice. Lin’s Cinderella story is particularly important to other Asian athletes, who often don’t get recognized for their play — especially in basketball. “He’s a very good basketball player, and I’m proud of him because he came from Asia,” said boxing champ Manny Pacquiao. Even Lin’s NBA competitors praise his efforts. “He has a lot of confidence, and that’s all you need in this league is confidence,” Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose said. “It’s great for him, but it’s also great for the league,” Phoenix Suns star Steve Nash added. Jeremy Lin has a heck of a story, maybe one that could be told on the big screen. “Jeremy Lin is definitely going to get a documentary. I don’t know if Spike Lee’s claimed the rights to it or whatever — I know he’s been all over that,” Rapaport said. There’ll definitely be an ESPN ’30 for 30’ on Jeremy Lin.” Are you caught up in the Linsanity? Let us know in the comments!
This should be all the more reason why he should have NOT said that ish about Jeremy Lin in the first place: An ESPN anchor suspended for using a racially-loaded term in reference to Knicks phenom Jeremy Lin defended himself on Twitter today, as the network sacked another employee for using the phrase in a headline on its website. “My wife is Asian, would never intentionally say anything to disrespect her and that community,” Anchor Max Bretos tweeted. “Wanted 2 apologize 2 all those I have upset. Not done with any racial reference. Despite intention, phrase was inappropriate in this context.” That phrase was “Chink in the armor,” a term Bretos used on air following Lin’s poor performance during the Knicks’ loss to the lowly New Orleans Hornets Friday. Bretos was suspended 30 days, and a writer who used the same phrase in a headline on ESPN’s mobile site was fired; The network did not release that employee’s name. While it can refer to a weakness, the phrase is also a racial slur against Asians. Lin, a California native of Chinese descent, is the first Asian-American to start an NBA game and has become an international sensation since the previously-unknown player exploded off the bench and led the Knicks on a seven-game winning streak. “I don’t think it was on purpose or whatever, but (at) the same time they have apologized. And so from my end I don’t care anymore,” Lin said after leading the Knicks to a 104-97 win over Dallas today. “Have to learn to forgive, and I don’t even think that was intentional. Or hopefully not.” ESPN called the phrase “offensive and inappropriate” in a statement today. “We again apologize, especially to Mr. Lin,” ESPN wrote. “His accomplishments are a source of great pride to the Asian-American community, including the Asian-American employees at ESPN. Through self-examination, improved editorial practices and controls, and response to constructive criticism, we will be better in the future.” SMH. He’s photographed above with his half-Asian baby.
