Snoop Dogg Sinks His Teeth Into ‘True Blood’ With ‘Oh, Sookie’

Rapper has already paid homage to the HBO vampire series in ‘Gangsta Love.’ By Gil Kaufman Snoop Dogg Photo: MTV He’s hooked up with fellow tree enthusiast Willie Nelson for a country tune, indulged his sweet tooth with Katy Perry while wearing a candy suit in “California Gurls,” rapped about “MILF Weed” on Showtime’s “Weeds” and played a gangsta back from the dead in 2001’s “Bones.” When Snoop Dogg likes something, no matter the genre or medium, he goes all in with it. That might explain “Oh Sookie,” a new rhyme in which the Doggfather pays homage to the mind-reading, sex-addicted, shape-shifting, bloodsucking and howling residents of Bon Temps, Louisiana, from HBO’s vampire series “True Blood.” In the video for the tune unleashed on HBO.com on Thursday, Snoop aims to make the love triangle between vampires Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and Bill (Stephen Moyer) and mind-scanner Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) a square by offering up his best sexual seduction come-ons while rocking a five-finger “Sookie” ring. Snoop already gave props to the show in the 2009 song “Gangsta Love” (“It’s like True Blood, I sink my teeth in/ I gotta have it, the LB raised me”). And now he seems to be angling to shake things up even more with the hook, “We’ll do it in the daytime/ Bill won’t know a thing.” Showing that his knowledge of the show runs deep, he doesn’t just make a move on Sookie; he’s also down to party with her bestie, Tara, making a reference to her dearly departed boyfriend with the couplet, “Bring your best friend, Tara/ I got some real Eggs for her to eat.” The video for the song opens with Snoop — who later rocks a giant platinum “Sookie” chain — pulling into Bon Temps in his newly tricked-out Snoopmobile, complete with a “Tru Pimp” license plate and cloves of garlic hanging from the rearview mirror. Wearing a red, pinstriped suit, he urges Sookie to come close because, unlike so many of the creatures in the swampy town, “I’m the dog that don’t bite.” The g-funk tune bounces along on a slinky Spandau Ballet-like groove as Snoop drops references to Sookie’s telepathy and even offers to buy her a gin and juice at the restaurant where she waitresses, Merlotte’s diner. “Bill ain’t for real, he ain’t true blood/ Snoop is a G, I smoke true bud/ Wanna be a vampire, gotta listen up/ I hit you with the glamour,” he raps while hanging outside Merlotte’s in a pimp fur and later showing off his own TB product, a package of “True Nutz.” What do you think of Snoop’s “Oh Sookie”? England v Algeria: glamour fixture requires an A-list crowd

Princes William and Harry are bringing the glitz Cape Town – but can Fabio Capello’s team reign supreme? Refuse gas and air, and proceed straight to the epidural – England’s next World Cup game is upon us. Finally, Fabio Capello’s two-and-a-half lions have the chance to exorcise last Saturday’s painful draw against the USA, by grinding out a nerve-shreddingly unconvincing 1-0 victory over Algeria. The setting for Friday’s crucial game is Green Point stadium, with the Cape Town match what you might call the glamour fixture in England’s first-round schedule. Which is to say, it will be attended by various people for whom one suspects other cities in South Africa are that bit too “authentic”. Spectators are to include London mayor Boris Johnson, who is on a five-day fact-finding mission for the 2012 Olympics, and the allegedly “football-mad” Princes William and Harry, who are on a joint tour of southern Africa. William is president of the Football Association – a role somehow even more pretend than Uncle Andrew’s job as UK trade ambassador – and he and his brother will stay on in Cape Town after the game to play a leading role in Saturday’s big event, which is a glitzy reception for England’s 2018 World Cup bid. Preparations for the soiree look solid at present – though obviously all could be derailed should Harry opt to go in fancy dress as PW Botha. Ultimately, though, Friday’s game offers England a chance to silence their footballing critics – an amusing number of whom seem to be German. First up was erstwhile Germany captain Michael Ballack, who reflected upon the difference between the two international sides. “We’re inspired by our history,” he explained, “whereas I sense England are intimidated by their past.” Next in line was the legendary Franz Beckenbauer. “What I saw of the English against the USA had very little to do with football,” schadenfreuded Der Kaiser, rightly judging that he had been watching not a football game, but some kind of psychological episode. Even German-born football fan Dr Henry Kissinger called the New York Times to offer his views on the World Cup – though sweetly he declined to add to England’s misery. “Brazil has played the most beautiful football,” the former US secretary of state apparently ruled, “while Italy has specialised in breaking the hearts of its opponents, and for Germany everyone attacks in a way suggestive of Erich von Falkenhayn’s huge flanking movements in world war one – and everyone defends.” Penetrating analysis there from the former comedy Nobel peace prizewinner. Perhaps ITV might consider Kissinger as a replacement pundit for the sacked Robbie Earle? The good doctor is already scheduled to attend the later rounds of the World Cup, South Africa being one of the countries to which he can travel without risking a connecting flight to the Hague. As for our own efforts to “move on” from Saturday, they have been mixed. If anything could make you yearn to be watching even the most lacklustre of England displays again, it is the manner in which Her Majesty’s press fills the gap between games. Lowlights since Saturday include Archbishop Desmond Tutu being presented with a Sun-branded vuvuzela, and the media pack besieging the home of hapless goalkeeper Robert Green’s parents, presumably waiting for them to emerge and disown him. The Greens have since appealed to the PCC for protection. What was needed, clearly, was something to Put Everything Into Perspective – and on Wednesday, Michael Dawson and Matthew Upson provided it. Escaping from what has been described predictably as England’s “gilded cage” of a team base, the two Tottenham defenders took a busload of hacks with them to visit an orphanage jointly funded by the FA and Spurs. According to Upson, “this puts everything into perspective” (that is, the orphanage does, not travelling everywhere with dozens of Boswells). So let us gird ourselves with that recalibrated perspective. After all, in a World Cup not short of early underperformers, England’s first result now demands to be reconsidered. According to the demented mathematics of the footballing optimist, favourites Spain losing to Switzerland pretty much bumps up our shabby draw with the USA into a triumph. Or something. The point is, it should be perfectly possible to await England v Algeria nursing the same level of mad hope with which you began this tournament, safe in the knowledge your despair will have its day. Zimbabwe 0 – 3 Brazil Highlights International Friendly 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Brazil defeated Zimbabwe 3-0 in a World Cup warmup on Wednesday thanks to goals from Michel Bastos, Robinho and Elano. An almost full-strength Brazil team made a sloppy start at Harare’s National Sports Stadium but picked up the pace to earn a comfortable victory with less than two weeks to go before its World Cup debut. The five-time world champion suffered a scare, though, with first-choice goalkeeper Julio Cesar forced off injured in the 26th minute. The Champions League winner with Inter Milan left the field walking and the extent of the injury was not immediately known. Left back Michel Bastos opened the scoring with a powerful free kick in the 41st minute, winger Robinho added a second from inside the penalty area in the 44th and midfielder Elano wrapped things up from close range in the 56th. It was Brazil’s first warmup since arriving in Africa to begin its World Cup preparations. It will face Tanzania in Dar es Salaam on Sunday in its final match before opening its campaign against North Korea in Johannesburg on June 15. Brazil, wearing a blue strip, made too many passing errors early on and encountered problems at the back against 110th-ranked Zimbabwe, which will not be playing in the World Cup. The African side had two great chances to open the scoring as President Robert Mugabe watched from the tribunes. Ovidy Karuru missed an open goal in the 19th by shooting over the crossbar, and Knowledge Musona’s header in the 27th was just kept …

Sarah Palin at Belmont Stakes in T-shirt, Cargo Pants, and Trucker Cap

sarah palin tits

Palin, who was taken to task over her pricey clothing while she was a vice presidential candidate, seems to not understand that there is a time to dress up and a time to dress down. This weekend she and husband Todd attended the Belmont Stakes — the third horse race in the Triple Crown series — in Elmont, NY, where they cheered on First Dude, a horse named for Todd’s nickname during the time Sarah was governor of Alaska. Though it’s not quite the Kentucky Derby, where attendees go all out, Stakes spectators traditionally get dressed up, complete with a hat. Palin clearly did not get the memo. She showed up in cropped cargo pants, a scoop-neck T-shirt, bedazzled sunglasses, and a trucker cap. (Todd wore a plaid shirt and jeans.) What’s worse, the Palins were the guests of Marylou Whitney, the reigning socialite in the horse-racing world. Whitney, to our knowledge, has rarely been seen without multiple strands of pearls, a lovely dress or suit, and a matching wide-brimmed hat. StyleList can’t even imagine what she thought of Palin’s getup. The Albany Times-Union reported that the dress-code violation was not the Palins’ fault – their limo got lost on the 10-mile journey from JFK Airport and they had no time to change. But Palin needs to take a tip from fashionistas everywhere – the car is a perfectly good place to change your clothes, particularly during busy times like fashion week. And StyleList can’t believe this seasoned political pro has never had to change on the run. For the record, First Dude came in third.

Arctic Ice At Low Point Compared To Recent Geologic History

Less ice covers the Arctic today than at any time in recent geologic history. That's the conclusion of an international group of researchers, who have compiled the first comprehensive history of Arctic ice. For decades, scientists have strived to collect sediment cores from the difficult-to-access Arctic Ocean floor, to discover what the Arctic was like in the past. Their most recent goal: to bring a long-term perspective to the ice loss we see today. Now, in an upcoming issue of Quarternary Science Reviews, a team led by Ohio State University has re-examined the data from past and ongoing studies – nearly 300 in all – and combined them to form a big-picture view of the pole's climate history stretching back millions of years. “The ice loss that we see today – the ice loss that started in the early 20th Century and sped up during the last 30 years – appears to be unmatched over at least the last few thousand years,” said Leonid Polyak, a research scientist at Byrd Polar Research Center at Ohio State University. Polyak is lead author of the paper and a preceding report that he and his coauthors prepared for the U.S. Climate Change Science Program. Satellites can provide detailed measures of how much ice is covering the pole right now, but sediment cores are like fossils of the ocean's history, he explained. “Sediment cores are essentially a record of sediments that settled at the sea floor, layer by layer, and they record the conditions of the ocean system during the time they settled. When we look carefully at various chemical and biological components of the sediment, and how the sediment is distributed – then, with certain skills and luck, we can reconstruct the conditions at the time the sediment was deposited.” For example, scientists can search for a biochemical marker that is tied to certain species of algae that live only in ice. If that marker is present in the sediment, then that location was likely covered in ice at the time. Scientists call such markers “proxies” for the thing they actually want to measure – in this case, the geographic extent of the ice in the past. While knowing the loss of surface area of the ice is important, Polyak says that this work can't yet reveal an even more important fact: how the total volume of ice – thickness as well as surface area – has changed over time. “Underneath the surface, the ice can be thick or thin. The newest satellite techniques and field observations allow us to see that the volume of ice is shrinking much faster than its area today. The picture is very troubling. We are losing ice very fast,” he said. “Maybe sometime down the road we'll develop proxies for the ice thickness. Right now, just looking at ice extent is very difficult.” To review and combine the data from hundreds of studies, he and his cohorts had to combine information on many different proxies as well as modern observations. They searched for patterns in the proxy data that fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Their conclusion: the current extent of Arctic ice is at its lowest point for at least the last few thousand years. As scientists pull more sediment cores from the Arctic, Polyak and his collaborators want to understand more details of the past ice extent and to push this knowledge further back in time. During the summer of 2011, they hope to draw cores from beneath the Chukchi Sea, just north of the Bering Strait between Alaska and Siberia. The currents emanating from the northern Pacific Ocean bring heat that may play an important role in melting the ice across the Arctic, so Polyak expects that the history of this location will prove very important. continued added by: JanforGore

Drake To Visit Lil Wayne In Prison

‘FINALLY got some time for a visit to go see my brother,’ rapper tweeted. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake and Lil Wayne Photo: the305.com Drake announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he would be visiting his mentor in prison on Wednesday (June 2). “FINALLY got some time for a visit tmrw to go see my brother,” Drake wrote . “So if you got msgs that need to be delivered write #TellWayne.” The Toronto MC has been on the road and putting the final touches on his debut, Thank Me Later, since Weezy turned himself in to prison back in March. In an interview Drake gave to MTV Jams in honor of Lil Tunechi Weekend, the So Far Gone superstar admitted he missed his Young Money cohort, from their friendly rivalry to the veteran rapper’s guidance. “One of the most important things in my life was being able to always see that Weezy e-mail come in,” Drake explained while donning a white T-shirt emblazoned with the rapper’s face and the words “Free Wayne.” “Or be able to respond to that e-mail or be able to ask him a question. Be able to utilize his knowledge. Our communication, I would say I miss that.” Since the rapper has been away, Drake has done his best to keep Lil Wayne’s name alive , from shouting him out at shows to bringing him up in interviews. Wayne has done a good job himself of staying active in the public’s mind, releasing a spate of videos and hosting a mixtape from behind bars. According to the New York City Department of Correction website, Wayne is allowed visits on Wednesdays between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The two will be allocated an hour of time for the visit and Drake will be subjected to multiple searches before he’ll come face to face with Wayne. Fans have followed Drake’s instructions and are hoping he relays a number of messages, including notes of support and wishes for Wayne’s next album to arrive soon . Drizzy also will be relaying a message from his own mother to Wayne. “I talked to mother, she loves you to death,” Drake told MTV. “That’s from Mama Graham.” What do you think about Drake going to visit Lil Wayne? Sophie Turner Shows Us The Pink

The title sounds a whole lot dirtier than it is, I only chose it because her shirt is pink. Perverts. Anyhow, I still don’t have a real good reason to be posting pictures of Australian hottie/nobody Sophie Turner , to my knowledge she hasn’t found any work yet, but I like big titted blond so that’s all the reason I need. Besides, I’m sure none of you give a crap who she is, you just want to see some sweet cleavage from down under and that’s what I’m trying to deliver. You’re welcome.

What Is ‘Lost’ All About, Anyway?

‘Lost’ star Michael Emerson and MTV News try to make sense of mysterious plot before series finale on Sunday. By Josh Wigler Cast of “Lost” Photo: ABC “Lost” is not simply about a plane crashing on a mysterious island. It cannot be classified as pure science fiction or jungle adventure or any other number of genres. There are numerous philosophical issues at the core of “Lost,” but distilling the series into one idea isn’t just a daunting task — it’s a virtually impossible one. But that won’t stop Michael Emerson, who plays the eerie Benjamin Linus on the hit series, from trying. “On the surface, ‘Lost’ seems to be a universal survival adventure,” Emerson explained of the concept in a message recorded for MTV News. “But as it goes along, it becomes revealed to be much more than that: a science-fiction and time-travel drama; an allegory of sin and redemption and past lives and hope for the future. “It’s a lot,” he ultimately conceded. We’ll try to clarify his explanation with some additional details. The series debuted in 2004 with a simple premise: Oceanic Flight 815 crashes on a tropical island with a handful of passengers miraculously surviving the accident. But this is no ordinary island: in addition to the expected wild boar and exotic birds, there are polar bears, an indigenous group called the Others and an ancient monster made out of black smoke. Our heroes are tasked with facing down these forces, while struggling to survive and find a way off the island. But when a lucky few finally manage to escape, it becomes apparent that these men and women were never supposed to leave. They were always destined to carry out a higher purpose in this jungle of mystery. As the show progressed and the mysteries deepened, “Lost” kept itself grounded through a compelling cast of characters: Jack, a heroic doctor with an obsessive need to fix everything; Kate, a fugitive with nowhere left to run; Sawyer, a conman hiding the heart of a hero; Hurley, an overweight multimillionaire with an unlucky curse; Sayid, an Iraqi torturer looking to put the past behind him; Jin and Sun Kwon, a married couple with trust issues; Claire, a pregnant woman unsure about becoming a mother; and Locke, a paraplegic whose spine is healed by the island, leading him to believe that he and his fellow survivors were always meant to be here — an assertion that Jack initially rejects. But Jack began to view the island from Locke’s perspective once it was revealed that the enigmatic Jacob brought the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 to the island — the skeptical Jack included — in an effort to find his successor as the island’s ruler. Before he could finalize his replacement, Jacob was murdered by Ben, the disenfranchised former leader of the Others who felt neglected by Jacob. Ben carried out the deed at the request of the vicious smoke monster, which is actually Jacob’s brother and eternal nemesis posing as a deceased John Locke. With Jacob dead, the monster simply needed to kill his brother’s remaining candidates, which would allow him to finally leave the island and explore the outside world. In addition to the already-dead Locke, the monster succeeded in killing half of these candidates: Sun, Jin and Sayid. A ghostly Jacob was able to reach out to the rest of candidates to warn them of what was at stake: If the smoke monster is allowed to leave the island, the outside world would succumb to his might. Furthermore, the monster should be prevented at any cost from gaining access to a sacred light at the heart of the island. In order to protect this light, one of Jacob’s candidates needed to volunteer to take up the mantle as guardian of the island. Jack volunteered for the position and was given instructions on where to find the light before the monster could get to it. But the monster currently has his sights set on something else: Desmond Hume, a tragic hero with a unique relationship to the space-time continuum as a result of exposure to electromagnetic energy — an energy that permeates the island’s all-important light. With Desmond’s help, the monster believes, not only can he leave the island, but he can destroy it too. The rub is that Desmond’s whereabouts are unknown. Last seen trapped in a well, he’s apparently escaped since then. Desmond’s ability to destroy the island might have something to do with his knowledge of a sideways universe where Oceanic Flight 815 never crashed and landed safely in Los Angeles. He is one of few people in this sideways universe who remembers his time on the island, something that he’s hoping to fix. As the finale looms, Desmond’s mission to awaken our heroes’ sideways selves remains an mysterious factor in the show’s end game. Indeed, there are countless characters, organizations and enigmatic entities that could have a huge impact on how “Lost” concludes. With so many questions still dangling unanswered, there’s really only one certainty at this point: On Sunday night, this confounding, occasionally frustrating and enormously entertaining journey will finally reach its end. How do you hope “Lost” will end on Sunday? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos Counting Down To The ‘Lost’ Finale! Related Photos Spin-Offs For The Characters Of ‘Lost’

Diddy Says Nicki Minaj Is ‘One Of The Great Ones’

‘Nicki is up there. Her story has just begun,’ the mogul says of managing the Young Money MC. By Jayson Rodriguez Diddy Photo: MTV News Diddy is expanding his empire. The mogul recently announced the opening of a management firm that he’ll oversee in addition to his existing business holdings, which include a restaurant, clothing line and, of course, Bad Boy Records. Rick Ross was the first to ink with Diddy , describing the knowledge Diddy has as “priceless.” And now, Nicki Minaj is finalizing the paperwork that will allow the Last Train to Paris superstar to guide her career. The Young Money femcee has already been in the studio with Diddy, and he’s been singing her praises. “Nicki Minaj, she’s definitely one of the great ones,” Diddy told MTV News, speaking publicly for the first time about his new signee. “She has a long way to go, but you know how we recognized LeBron [James] was a great one, Tiger [Woods] was a great one, and Kobe [Bryant] was a great one? Nicki is up there. Her story has just begun.” So far, Nicki Minaj has released only one single, the Sean Garrett-assisted “Massive Attack,” which boasts a Hype Williams-directed video. But she’s been prominently featured on a slew of other artist’s records, including Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad,” Robin Thicke’s “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy” and Mariah Carey’s “Up Out My Face.” In February, the Queens lyricist spoke with MTV News and said she’s in no rush to release her yet-untitled debut. “With the album, just like with my mixtape, I never like to rush it,” Minaj explained. “With the album, I think it’s more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again. Before I drop an album, people need to come out and see. People don’t even know what a female rapper does. We’re so not used to seeing it. “It’s nonexistent in categories. We don’t get nominated. I need to work [the people] up to accepting a female rapper again and accepting my style and all of that — then the album will come. Honestly, I’d love to put an album out this year, but I don’t believe in rushing things either. We’ll see.” Do you think Diddy will do a good job of managing artists like Nicki Minaj? Calvin Borel Makes Kentucky Derby History

Calvin Borel grabbed the rail and didn’t let go Saturday, sloshing through the slop on another flawless ride to win his third Kentucky Derby in four years – a record for the history of the race. No man has ever won the race three times in a span of four years. The most wide-open Derby in years ended with a sure thing — Borel crossing the finish line and punching the air with this right fist, raising it toward the gray sky. The jockey’s magic touch gave trainer Todd Pletcher his first Derby victory after 24 failures. His ride nearly duplicated the one he turned in last year aboard 50-1 shot Mine That Bird, except he and Super Saver went off at lower odds and were never in last place. Borel was confident enough in his colt and his knowledge of his home track to take him off the lead in the early going of the 1 1/4-mile race at Churchill Downs. In all but one of his six previous races, Super Saver had never been farther back than second in the early stages. Borel knew that strategy wouldn’t work in a 20-horse Derby field on a tiring, sloppy track. Breaking from the No. 4 post, he immediately tucked his colt along the rail — a predictable move from the rider nicknamed “Bo-rail” — and there they stayed almost the entire way. Super Saver was timed in 2:04.45 as the second-choice behind favorite Lookin At Lucky, whose 6-1 odds tied Harlan’s Holiday in 2002 for the longest priced favorite in 136 runnings. He paid $18, $8.80 and $6. Trained by Nick Zito, Ice Box returned $11.20 and $8 after nipping Paddy O’Prado at the wire for second. Paddy O’Prado paid $7.40 to show. Pletcher let out a whoop and slapped his hands together after his colt crossed the finish line, snapping a skid that the Eclipse Award-winning trainer was eager to end. He seemed to have a lock on his first Derby win until expected favorite Eskendereya was withdrawn last weekend with a swollen leg. That left Pletcher with four horses in the race, but none was as highly regarded. And now that’s over, it’s time to watch the Mayweather vs Mosley live stream as the next big sports event for the day.
