MTV News heads into the Gibson Amphitheatre to learn where all the A-listers will be sitting Sunday. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Jim Cantiello with the MTV Movie Awards’ seating cards Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Every year, the MTV Movie Awards gathers some of the biggest names in Hollywood as they vie for the coveted Golden Popcorn. But who will be closest to the stage to grab those trophies? Well, MTV News got the inside scoop by checking out the seating cards in the Gibson Amphitheatre, so we know where your fave celebs will be sitting when the big show goes live Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. “Of course we have to put KStew in the front row. Hello, Bella!” Jim Cantiello said when he found “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart’s card front and center. “I like that we found the one photo of her almost kind of smiling.” Making his way around the room, Cantiello gave the “Magic Mike” crew’s seating cards a proper strip-club welcome with a lap dance. He also noted that Hollywood hottie Michael Fassbender had two seats, one for him and one for his … well, anyone who saw “Shame” knows what we’re talking about. With Stewart on hand to represent “Twilight,” Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks and more will also be there for that other big franchise. “Last but not least, we can’t have the Movie Awards without the ‘Hunger Games’ cast,” Cantiello said of the movie, tied with “Bridesmaids” for the most nominations. To see where the rest of the celebs are sitting, check out the 2012 MTV Movie Awards this Sunday. From Russell Brand’s improv to Kristen Stewart’s nerves, best behind-the-scenes moments from Sunday’s show. By Eric Ditzian Kristen Stewart wins at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Christian Bale nearly cried. Johnny Depp wailed alongside the Black Keys. Jennifer Lawrence got shot through the head with an arrow. Everyone saw these moments take place at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night at the Gibson Amphitheatre. But back behind the stage, in the wings and on the patio behind the theater, there was an entirely different event going on. And I was lucky enough to have access to it all, thanks to my so-called “God pass,” the highest-level badge allowing me to come, go and gawk as I pleased. I was there when “Magic Mike” star Joe Manganiello, shirtless and clad in a fireman’s outfit, deposited Elizabeth Banks backstage after carrying her off after her Best On-Screen Transformation lap-dance of an acceptance speech. She was four-alarm-fire excited for the help and announced, “I needed Channing Tatum shirtless for my bit to work. But then this guy saved the day!” It was just that kind of party. Check out six other things you didn’t see at the Movie Awards. Emma Watson Was Bummed The 22-year-old actress may have moved on from the “Harry Potter” franchise that made her a star (and a zillionaire), but the gal never forgets her roots. After handing over the Golden Popcorn for Best Male Performance to “Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson — who beat out “Potter” boy wizard Daniel Radcliffe for the win — Watson nearly crumbled into a handler’s arms backstage. Was she feeling like she’d betrayed the hero of Hogwarts? Was it just kind of awkward? Before I could inquire, her “Perks of Being a Wallflower” co-stars swooped in, bringing a smile to her face, and off they all went to the back patio. Kristen Stewart Was Worried KStew didn’t have any interest in winning Best Kiss for a fourth time in a row, especially considering that co-star Robert Pattinson was off promoting a new film rather than kicking it at the Gibson. But win she did, and once onstage, with no lips to smooch in the grand tradition of Best Kiss winners, Stewart implored co-stars like Charlize Theron and Taylor Lautner to join her and do the deed. Shockingly, no one took her up on the offer. She ended up just pretending to make out with herself. The crowd loved it, but Kristen wasn’t sure. Once backstage, Stewart leaned toward a rep and, with a nervous smile, asked, “How was it? Was it OK?” Russell Brand Likes Little Kids The night’s emcee had a long-standing plan with “Rock of Ages” stars Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta to interrupt a commercial break and promote their upcoming rock musical. But Hough — whose boyfriend, Ryan Seacrest, couldn’t make it to the show — instead brought her elementary-school-aged nephew, leading Brand to come up with a wacky bit of improv. To the folks watching at home, it seemed like it was preplanned for Brand to be kneeling down and asking the little boy to take over his hosting duties, but it all came together in a matter of minutes, thanks to Brand. Wiz Khalifa Feels No Pain Wiz barely made it to the show. Just hours before he was set to perform, the rapper was stuck in Dallas . Show producers were trying their best not to freak out. Not Wiz. He hopped aboard “my own little cloud that I float” on, as he told me on the red carpet, and made it to the show. After the performance, the guy was on a serious high, perhaps partly owing to the pungent cloud surrounding his entourage, but mostly because he rocked the hell out of the crowd. He hopped into the backstage area, a huge smile on his face, and shouted to anyone who wanted to hear, “It felt great! It felt great!” Johnny Depp Wants a Band Backstage, while Depp was shredding with the Black Keys, “Prometheus” stars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender were boogying their butts off. The cast of “Teen Wolf” was saying that they had to be backstage, and in full view of the musical madness, rather than in their seats. And Depp, he was probably wishing he could do this full-time. As he said after the performance, when multiple people suggested he ditch acting and fully embrace music, he said, “I need a band! I don’t have a band!” Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler didn’t seem to care, telling Depp and the Keys, “You the bomb!” Dark Knight Gets Emotional In perhaps the night’s most unexpected moment, Christian Bale appeared to be on the verge of tears after a montage of “Batman” footage, including shots of Heath Ledger, played during the show. Afterwards, Bale, director Christopher Nolan and co-stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman all embraced one another again and again. This was a special moment, clearly, for them all. Nolan (whose teleprompter, alone among presenters on Sunday, read simply, “Ad lib”) was the focus of all the “Dark Knight Rises” well-wishing. “Thank you,” Bale told him. “Thank you,” Gordon-Levitt echoed. “Thank you.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Kristen Stewart. Who knew she had it in her?!? At last night’s MTV Movie Awards , the Twilight Saga star won Best Kiss along with co-star and real-life boyfriend Robert Pattinson. It was the latter’s third consecutive time taking home this trophy, only in this case Pattinson and Stewart did not make out, nor did Rob kiss Taylor Lautner , because he was not in attendance. So, what was a lonely Stewart to do on stage? Actually be funny! She called out for Chris Hemsworth as a make-out partner… then Charlize Theron… and finally Lautner (“Taylor, old friend. Help an old friend. Come on!”). When no one showed up, Kristen was forced to rely on her own lips. Watch the video now and see what we mean: Kristen Stewart Wins Best Kiss
‘I’m so worried about how we’re going to vote for Best Kiss,’ Patrick Carney jokes to MTV News before tonight’s performance. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Black Keys Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — The Black Keys will put “Gold on the Ceiling” when they take the stage at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards tonight. So what should fans of the Ohio rockers expect when they storm the show? “Well, without spoiling it,” Dan Auerbach teased MTV News during rehearsals at the Gibson Amphitheatre in L.A. But, unfortunately for fans, MTV News had to censor his answer so we wouldn’t ruin the big surprise. In addition to performing, the guys will also get to chill out with some of the biggest stars on the planet, a concept Patrick Carney said really puts him at ease. “We feel really comfortable in these environments,” he joked. “You might not know this, but we were child stars.” While the performance should make some headlines, so will whichever lucky couple nabs the highly coveted Best Kiss prize. When asked if they would be voting for Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s smooch in “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” the guys didn’t yet know which make-out session deserved their vote. “I’m so worried about how we’re going to vote for Best Kiss,” Carney teased. To see what the guys weren’t allowed to tell you, you’ll have to tune in to the big show tonight, which will also feature performances from Fun. , Martin Solveig and Wiz Khalifa . Best Kiss nominee and Movie Awards presenter says she was ‘so not ready’ for film’s emotionally charged speech. By Amy Wilkinson, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — In her latest film, “Snow White and the Huntsman,” actress Kristen Stewart proves that the fabled heroine is not only fair, but incredibly fierce. Suiting up in armor and wielding a glinting sword, Snow White must save her kingdom from the clutches of her evil stepmother, Queen Ravenna (played by Charlize Theron ). Yet, for as much onscreen bravery as she showed, Stewart was admittedly apprehensive about one scene in particular, she revealed during Sneak Peek Week, leading up to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET, where the actress is also a presenter. Stewart, along with co-star Sam Claflin , took to the Universal Studios CityWalk stage to debut an exclusive clip from the film and participate in a 30-minute Q&A session. When asked by a fan in the audience which scene was the most emotional for her to film, the Best Kiss nominee hesitated before recalling a moment late in the movie in which Snow White rallies her troops. Clad in a billowing white gown, Stewart delivers a rousing monologue, encouraging the townspeople to take up arms against the Queen — not for her sake but for their own. “It kept getting kicked to the end of the schedule. It was like, ‘I’m so not ready for that; put that one off a little longer,’ ” Stewart recalled. “Every single day we were re-writing it. I still need to frame that thing — laminate it somehow and give it to Rupert [Sanders] the director — the different renditions of it. It’s disintegrating.” Co-star Claflin was quick to praise Stewart for her performance in the movie’s pivotal moment. “The girl was wearing no shoes in the coldest day of English history and was wearing, like, a nightie,” Claflin said. “I don’t know how she did it, honestly. Man power. Woman power. Girl power … she did a smashing job on that.” Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ star tells MTV News her favorite British slang is ‘a really good word.’ By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News We didn’t quite know what we were getting ourselves into when we asked Kristen Stewart to name her favorite British slang word. The actress spent a while perfecting her British accent in anticipation of “Snow White and the Huntsman,” and between that practice and her British boyfriend, Robert Pattinson, we were sure Stewart had learned a phrase or five that she was partial to. But we should have realized where she was headed when she told MTV News that she was being “way too honest here” during her Sneak Peek Week interview. That’s right: KStew’s favorite British word is “cu–.” She defended it, saying, “You go over there [to England], and it’s a very different effect. It’s fun. It’s good.” Sure, we would have gone with “arse” or “wicked” or “innit,” but we sort of get where Stewart was coming from in her preferential colloquialism. As her “Snow White” co-star Sam Claflin said, “[‘Cu–‘]’s become the new ‘mate.’ ” The conversation could have ended there, but Stewart added that her favorite way to use the “C” word is by adding an “-ing” to the end. “Add an ‘-ing’ to it — this is terrible — I heard some really down English crazy guy, on our crew actually, really angry, adding the ‘-ing,’ ” she explained. “It’s a really good word.” What about Claflin’s favorite American word? Apparently, that’s an easy question. “Aluminum. Garage. Trash,” he said with a laugh. “The list is endless.” Fortunately, you won’t hear the pair saying any of those words in “Snow White and the Huntsman,” which hit theaters Friday (June 1). But at least now we have a better idea of what Stewart and Pattinson are whispering in each other’s ears in all those paparazzi photos. You might guess most folks flocking to theaters this weekend for Snow White and the Huntsman are the legions of diehard fans of Twilight ‘s Kristen Stewart , who stars in the fantasy adventure as the sword-swinging Snow White. Maybe, even, they’ll come for co-star Chris Hemsworth — he of Thor and Avengers fame. But surprise, surprise — who’d have thought the big draw, at least for folks who hit opening day today, would be neither of SWATH ‘s up-and-coming talent? PMC Studios’ Beyond the Trailer (owned by Movieline’s parent company PMC) caught up with some early Snow White adopters at the AMC E-Walk today, and they told Grace Randolph they were there to see the Evil Queen — Charlize Theron . What’s more: At least one woman says she actually saw the film despite K-Stew. Also: Props to the older lady at 3:50 dropping truth bombs about dead ugly people, who wants to buy presents for Hemsworth’s children (even though they’d most certainly be impossibly beautiful Hems-spawn, but whatevs). Surprised at all the Charlize love? Agree with the consensus that KStew’s performance pales in comparison to Theron’s near-camp extravaganza? Or are you REALLY in it just to see Hemsworth swing that axe around a forest? For more movie news, commentary, and reviews, check out Beyond the Trailer on YouTube.

Experts weigh in on whether Kristen Stewart’s star power can overtake current box-office champs leading up to the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, June 3. By Ryan J. Downey Kristen Stewart as “Snow White” Photo: Universal Last weekend, “Men in Black 3” finally ended the box-office domination of “The Avengers,” which saw the superhero team-up movie smashing world records with the combined might of Thor’s hammer, Captain America’s shield, Iron Man’s snarky wit and the Hulk’s green fists. During this MTV Movie Awards weekend, “Snow White and the Huntsman” will do battle against them both, with “Thor” himself, Chris Hemsworth, in one of the title roles alongside Kristen Stewart, best-known for a little franchise called “Twilight.” Will Stewart’s vampire fanatic fanbase focus their attention on “Snow White”? Will Thor’s Asgardian thunder rain down more box-office coin in this role? Keep in mind this isn’t the first “Snow White”-centered movie to hit multiplexes this year. Julia Roberts flopped in “Mirror, Mirror” just two months ago. “Huntsman” is headed to theaters with similar reviews (50 percent on Rotten Tomatoes’ “Tomatometer” at press time). So how will it do? “It’s going to be close, but ‘Snow White’ should edge out ‘Men in Black 3,’ ” HitFix ‘s Gregory Ellwood told MTV News. MTV Next Movie Executive Editor Kevin Polowy concurred. “Its competition isn’t that daunting. ‘Men in Black’ did well last weekend but hardly gangbusters. ‘The Avengers,’ which is still hanging ridiculously tough a month after opening, might actually be more of a threat than last week’s big winner. But ‘Snow White’ has an alluring cast, the potential to draw all demographics, and most importantly for a summer blockbuster, a whole lotta action.” Jeff Bock, Exhibitor Relations Senior Box Office Analyst, gave the edge to “Huntsman” over “Mirror, Mirror,” which opened at #3 at the box office with just $18.1 million. He credited the newer film’s stronger chances to its tone, likening its style to box-office juggernaut “Alice in Wonderland.” “Universal’s ‘Snow White’ is the one everyone was waiting for; [this one is] done on a much grander scale, more akin to ‘Alice’ and very dark, like the Brothers Grimm fairy tale it spawned from.” ” ‘Snow White’ very clearly wants to be a ‘Lord of the Rings’-like swashbuckling epic, which should draw a bigger, more enticed audience,” agreed Polowy.” “The Avengers” is now the fourth-biggest movie ever, in terms of gross, domestically. The power of “Twilight,” of course, continues. But what will the success or failure of “Snow White” mean for the careers of its respective stars outside of their tried-and-true franchises? “This movie has been sold as Charlize Theron as the evil queen,” Ellwood pointed out. “You could argue that Universal hasn’t done enough to showcase Hemsworth in the movie, especially after the success of ‘The Avengers.’ ” Bock was quick to note talk of a possible “Huntsman”-centered sequel. “Hollywood is pretty smitten with Hemsworth. In the end though, as an ensemble piece, this has very little risk involved for him. If it were to tank, the blame would likely fall on Kristen Stewart, with critics jumping on the ‘she can’t carry a film other than ‘Twilight’ bandwagon. It is quite apparent when watching the movie that the real stars are Hemsworth and Theron, who both give powerhouse performances.” “[The movie’s success or failure] will be very important for Kristen Stewart,” Polowy said. “This is Stewart’s first high-profile starring role outside of ‘Twilight,’ and it’s loaded with variables. Can she open a summer blockbuster? Can she do action? Can she do accents? Can she refrain from biting her lip so much?” “Any opening over $30 million outside of ‘Twilight’ is good for Stewart,” offered Ellwood. “If ‘Snow White’ has legs, it’s a sign she’s can easily transition as a leading lady in tentpole films once her days as Bella are over.” Speaking of “biting” and “legs,” there is another film swimming toward the box office: “Piranha 3DD.” It’s 2010 predecessor, “Piranha 3-D,” was a surprise hit with critics (73 percent on the Tomatometer, which is like an Oscar for that type of horror flick). It didn’t collect huge amounts of cash, but it certainly did well enough for the Weinstein Company/ Dimension Films to warrant a follow-up, for which director John Gulager (“Feast”) took over for Alexandre Aja (“High Tension”). However, despite the critical love for the last one, “Piranha 3DD” sat at a lowly 20 percent on the Tomatometer at press time. “Critics loved the first Piranha because it exploited everything cheesy about campy horror films — and 3-D flicks — in tongue-in-cheek style. The sequel is merely exploitation of that success,” Bock said. “Based on the theater count of 75 theaters, you can see that this one will go belly up quick and flushed down the drain.” Flesh-eating fish and “Snow White” aside, the $600 million question, as Polowy put it, is whether anything will beat “The Avengers” in 2012. All three of the experts we contacted agreed that only one film stands a chance. Which film is that? Let’s just say it involves a cape, a cowl and maybe a broken back. “There’s only one candidate who could come close, and its name is ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ ” Polowy said of the forthcoming flick, for which an exclusive clip will premiere at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards. “Assuming [filmmaker] Christopher Nolan recaptures the magic of his last Batman blockbuster, and Tom Hardy’s Bane proves a viable replacement for Heath Ledger’s Joker, it will be close.” “It will have to be as strong critically as ‘The Dark Knight,’ ” said Ellwood. “That may be the only way to pull in [people who visit the movies four to six times per year]. Besides the added benefit of higher 3-D ticket prices, ‘The Avengers’ became a de facto family film, something ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ clearly isn’t, which helped fuel its coffers. Warner Bros. will need strong repeat business and massive adoration for ‘Rises’ to overtake ‘The Avengers.’ It’s arguably Batman’s toughest challenge yet.” Bock agreed it’s a huge challenge for Bats, one that may prove more defeating than anything Bane could cook up. “Even considering ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is probably the most anticipated threequel since ‘Return of the Jedi,’ ‘The Avengers’ is playing like Earth’s mightiest sequel. And that’s exactly what it is.” “Sorry Batman, you’ve been busted by Hollywood’s box-office brigade,” he concluded. Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now!
