Breaking Dawn First Images: Bella and Edward Welcome Renesmee, Lautner Insists Imprinting Not Creepy

Oh hey, remember Twilight ? That book that was a movie that spawned a gazillion-dollar franchise before The Hunger Games and Fifty Shades of Grey made you momentarily forget about sparkly vampires? Well, it’s back, and the latest EW cover serves to remind us all that Breaking Dawn – Part 2 — the franchise ender, due in November — is just on the horizon. Forthwith, your first look at Vampire Bella, Daddy Edward, and, uh, Uncle Jacob with Breaking Dawn ‘s preternaturally mature baby Renesmee. EW teases their June 22 issue with family portraits of Bella ( Kristen Stewart ), Edward ( Robert Pattinson ), Jacob ( Taylor Lautner ), and little Renesmee, a new character introduced in Breaking Dawn – Part 2 . Per Stephenie Meyer’s final Twilight novel, Renesmee is the half-human, half-vampire baby whose birth pretty much kills Bella at the end of Breaking Dawn – Part 1 , necessitating Bella’s transformation into a vampire and kicking off the final chapter of zany events in the series. Among the stranger details of Breaking Dawn – Part 2 : Renesmee is a hybrid creature baby who grows at an accelerated rate, hence why she looks more like Siri Cruise than a normal infant. (Forget Twilight – let’s get to the untold story of Matt Leblanc, amirite?) Eleven-year-old newcomer Mackenzie Foy nabbed the role of Renesmee, and from the looks of EW’s preview she gets considerable face time with not only her vampire parents (and Jacob — more on that in a bit) but with the various assembled international vampires that gather to rally around the Cullen clan as the evil Volturi vamps head to America to wipe them out. EW’s Twilight issue hits stands June 15, along with new images from the film. Take a look at the Cullen brood… And the various global vampire clans that gather in Breaking Dawn – Part 2 : Of course, Dakota Fanning returns with the Volturi… …and Vampire Bella is strong enough to arm-wrestle Emmett… …but let’s talk about Jacob and Renesmee and the love that dare not speak its name: Imprinting. Scans of the EW cover story have already leaked, revealing bits of the cast and director interviews discussing the set, casting Foy (“Even our hands look similar,” marvels Stewart), etc. But let’s jump right over to the elephant in the room, shall we? Lautner addresses his Breaking Dawn challenge — making Jacob “imprint” on his soulmate, baby Renesmee, without making it feel, you know, creepy (via Nessie-Mackenzie.com ): …talking to Stephenie Meyer and diving back into the book got him more comfortable with the notion of being in love with a child. “Everyone likes to tease me about it,” he says. “Everyone thinks it’s so funny, and I laugh along with them, but it’s important for me to keep in my mind that it’s as simple as a lifelong bond. It’s not nearly as creepy as everybody likes to joke.” That “everybody” includes Pattinson, needless to say. “Oh, I can’t wait till he has to do live TV,” Pattinson says of Lautner with a gleeful cackle. “Did you ask him if his taste in women has changed? The first scene I saw them together, I literally could not stop laughing. I wouldn’t have been able to do it.” Well, good luck to Lautner. I don’t care if Stewart had to wear uncomfortable contact lenses, he’s officially got the hardest job of anyone on Twilight . Look for more in EW’s June 22 issue. [ EW ]

Fifty Shades of Grey: Bret Easton Ellis Dream Casts Ryan Gosling, Lena Dunham

American Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis made clear via Twitter who he’d pick as potential leads in Fifty Shades of Grey , the best-selling erotic drama by E. L. James that he claims he’s hoping to adapt for the big screen. If it ever comes to pass, Ryan Gosling and Girls creator/actress Lena Dunham are clear favorites — or so he insists. What would rumored potential director Angelina Jolie say? Reporting on Ellis’ Tweets — which should be taken with a sizable grain of salt, obviously — Orange UK noted that the Less Than Zero author speculated that Scarlett Johansson or Kristen Stewart would be the likely victors to play the novel’s Ana opposite a theoretical Gosling as Christian Grey. “I would love it if we lived in a world where [ Girls actress] Lena Dunham could be Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey but I don’t think we do,” Ellis wrote. “Hope E.L. James doesn’t think I’m being a prankster. I really want to adapt her novels for the screen. Christian Grey is a writer’s dream…” The novel’s Christian Grey is a wealthy man tormented by demons and a need for control who begins a BDSM affair with college grad, Ana. Ellis has additional thoughts on a director too, should the Jolie thing not work out — or is just an elaborate rumor — or both: “I think David Cronenberg is a great idea for directing Fifty Shades of Grey and we worked together on American Psycho in its initial phase.” He gave a shout out to his supporters and a nudge to the powers that, well.. “BEE”: “Thanks to everyone supporting BEE adapting Fifty Shades of Grey : the response has been huge and amazing. Hope E.L. James feels the same way.” [ @breteastonellis via Orange UK ]

SIFF: Emile Hirsch on Killer Joe Pressure and David Gordon Green’s Secret Movie Prince Avalanche

At the Seattle International Film Festival over the weekend to fete director and Lifetime Achievement honoree William Friedkin and present their NC-17 Southern-fried potboiler Killer Joe , actor Emile Hirsch spoke with Movieline about the “secret” movie he’d just shot with David Gordon Green ( Prince Avalanche , also starring Paul Rudd) and the experience of being on a Friedkin set, where the pressure to deliver on a tight schedule was palpable. “If you messed up your lines or something, Billy would make you pay a little bit,” Hirsch said. “You really didn’t want to mess up at all.” Hirsch’s Killer Joe character already suffers his share of punishment in the brutal black comedy, adapted from the play by Tracy Letts ( Bug ); he plays Chris, a trailer park-dwelling drug dealer who enlists a cold-blooded cop (Matthew McConaughey) to kill his mother. Things go awry, to say the least, drawing the entire morally-corrupt family (Thomas Haden Church, Gina Gershon, Juno Temple) into the fray, with violent consequences. “On set it was a high wire act,” Hirsch said, introducing Friedkin’s tribute event at the Seattle Film Festival. “He would be totally supportive of the actors to give the best performance that they could, but he let you know that you weren’t just playing with free time. You were here to shoot a movie very quickly and do the very best you could; he didn’t want you to give a great take on the tenth take when you sort of felt like it, he wanted you to give ‘the take’ the first time out. He would constantly remind you, ‘This ain’t a play, mo.’” Friedkin’s reputation preceded him before Hirsh went to meet for Killer Joe , the director’s latest feature following 2007’s Bug . “The chance to get to work with him was sort of intimidating, because you don’t really know what to expect,” recalled Hirsch to Movieline. “A lot of these legends are like, is this guy a legend for his movies or is he just some crazy maniac axe-murderer? But what he lived up to was the energy; he’s a combination of a tornado of energy but also this really specific intellect. He has so many stories and such insight, and is really quick on his feet and spontaneous and in the moment. He’s a really interesting mix of elements.” That’s not to say Friedkin wasn’t demanding, especially when it came to Hirsch’s more punishing scenes. His character is beaten by goons and bashed with canned goods — Killer Joe has a way with perverting even the most familiar of comfort foods — and Friedkin relished in pouring on the fake blood. “My character definitely has a bad week,” Hirsch laughed. “I think I felt the pressure in the sense that he doesn’t like to do a lot of takes, so there would be one or two takes that you’d know you would have and you wouldn’t want to blow your lines or not give your best performance. He would light that fire under you and there would be pressure, and you knew that if you fell off the high wire act, there wasn’t a net underneath — it kind of hurts, you definitely don’t want to fall.” Hirsch also discussed Prince Avalanche , the David Gordon Green-directed indie filmed under the radar last month near Austin, Texas. A remake of the Icelandic comedy Either Way , about two men on a road-striping crew, the film stars Hirsch and Paul Rudd and, as Hirsch told Movieline, his involvement sprang from another ill-fated project he and Green once hoped to make. “ Prince Avalanche — I didn’t actually realize it was a secret movie, I just thought we were making a really small movie that no one knew about. David had called me and I’d been wanting to work with him for years; we almost made a movie called Goat a while back. And it’s this kind of crazy, awesome cool script we shot with Paul.” Hirsch kept details under wraps, though he had this to say about the remake: “[Hirsch’s character] is kind of an interesting dude. It’s very similar to the original in a certain sense. It’s set outside Austin, in Texas. It’ll be an interesting mix of some real pathos mixed with some comedy.” Stay tuned for more with SIFF honorees William Friedkin and Sissy Spacek. Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Madagascar 3 and Prometheus Reign Supreme at the Box Office Over the Weekend

Those wild animals in Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted showed their box office heft, beating out Prometheus to land atop the overall box office for the weekend. The opener for the third installment of the animated feature figured bigger than anticipated for the pic which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last month and is clearly flexing its franchise prowess. The film had an 8% increase Saturday, bringing out families. But Prometheus is certainly not a disappointment. The feature also had better than expected numbers. Internationally, the pic stood at $91.5 million over the weekend after nearly two weeks in release in some territories and its IMAX $9.1 million total is a June record. 1. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (3-D animated) Gross: $60.35 million Screens: 4,258 (PSA: $14,173) Weeks: 1 Certainly not a bad start for the animated film and on par with its previous installment, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa , which opened also in first place back in 2008 with a $63.1 million gross in 4,056 theaters (for an impressive $15,559 average). That film went on to gross over $180 million domestically, according to Box Office Mojo and nearly $424 million worldwide. 2. Prometheus Gross: $50 million Screens: 3,396 (PSA: $14,723) Weeks: 1. Prometheus actually slightly topped Madagascar in the per screen average take by $550. Worldwide, Prometheus has seen $141.5 million so far since it first hit screens abroad in addition to this weekend’s domestic debut. 3. Snow White and the Huntsman Gross: $23.02 million Screens: 3,777 (PSA: $6,095) Week: 2 (Change: – 60%) The Kristen Stewart starter added just four more theaters in its second weekend, dropping to number 3 in the ranking with a 60% drop in overall gross compared to its opening $56.255 million last week. The movie has picked up $182 million worldwide so far. 4. Men in Black 3 3-D Gross: $13.5 million Screens: 3,792 (PSA: $3,560) Week: 3 (Change: – 54%) Another pretty big drop for Men in Black though 456 locations fewer screened the title over the previous weekend. Still, the pic has amassed $441.7 million internationally. That’s some serious cha-ching! 5. The Avengers Gross: $10.8 million Screens: 3,129 (PSA: $3,454) Week: 6 (Change: -47%) Still going strong, the year’s biggest film so far has grossed nearly $1.4 billion worldwide. 6. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Gross: $3,235,000 Screens: 1,298 (PSA: 2,492) Week: 6 (Change: -28%) The specialty has stayed in the top ten of the overall box office after its initial roll out in only dozens of theaters. It held onto number 6 among all releases last weekend, despite being in comparatively far fewer venues and its gross decline was only 28% compared to the previous week. And what did you see this weekend? Was it worth it?

‘Django Unchained’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Sneak peek gives us a closer look at Quentin Tarantino’s wholly original next film. By Kevin P. Sullivan Jamie Foxx in “Django Unchained” Photo: The Weinstein Company You have never seen a cowboy movie quite like this. Quentin Tarantino ‘s ” Django Unchained ” is a western unlike any other. For starters, it doesn’t take place in the Old West, but in the pre-Civil War South. Secondly, it stars Jamie Foxx as a freed slave, out to save his wife from servitude. But what else would you expect from Tarantino? The first trailer from “Django Unchained” hit the Web on Wednesday (June 6), and we’ve taken the opportunity to break it down for you into our five key scenes. Django Is Off The Chain Right from the start of the first trailer, Tarantino lets us know how “Django Unchained” is going to handle slavery. While the auteur will obviously bring his own irreverent spin to the subject, he is not shying away from showing the ugliest parts of slavery. Once freed, Django stylishly throws off his worn-down blanket in ultra-cool slow-mo, but he reveals the scars and the reality of his captivity. The image perfectly captures how Tarantino strikes the balance between truth and style in what’s sure to be a controversial film. It’s Good to Be King But Django is only one half of a dynamic duo. His liberator, the dentist-turned-bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (notice the wordplay), is played by none other than Christoph Waltz , the scene stealer from Tarantino’s last film, “Inglourious Basterds.” Where Colonel Hans Landa was a merciless, if not reasonable, evildoer, Schultz is a simple-minded (but not dumb) kind soul, whose unfamiliarity with slavery makes him sympathetic to Django’s struggle to save his wife. He is an ally to Django, and — like Landa — gets many of the film’s best lines. The Bloody Cotton If one image had to capture what Tarantino is attempting to do with “Django Unchained,” this would be it. This movie is the first of its kind, a “bloody Southern,” Tarantino’s own genre of sub-Mason-Dixon Western action. He’s taking the look of the spaghetti Western — something he experimented with in “Kill Bill” and “Inglourious Basterds” — and transplanting it to the South during the time before the Civil War. It’s an entirely original mash-up, the kind we’ve come to expect from Tarantino. Leo Has Our Attention Perhaps the biggest attention grabber of this whole affair is former teen heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio as an egotistical plantation owner. For all his great roles, DiCaprio has never played such a clear-cut villain, and it’s clear he’s having one hell of a time in the role of Calvin Candie, who owns slaves and uses them for prize fights to the death. Yeah, that doesn’t sound like the Leo we know, and that’s exactly why we can’t wait. The “D” Is Silent Just in case you were wondering, you don’t pronounce the “D.” Jamie Foxx has only appeared in a handful of movies in the years following his Oscar win, but Tarantino has handed him a meaty and thrilling role that could very well lead to a comeback. His portrayal of Django is drastically toned down from Foxx’s usual roles, as Django is a relatively quiet character. Needless to say, he does get his share of badass one-liners in the trailer, and we’re just dying to hear more. A fun fact about that last shot: it actually contains two Djangos. The man to the right of Foxx is Franco Nero, the man who starred in the spaghetti Western “Django,” Tarantino’s inspiration for the title. Kristen Stewart And Robert Pattinson To Co-Write A Script?

‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ actress also addresses rumors of a fairy-tale sequel with MTV News. By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have been co-stars both on- and offscreen. Now, with their wildly successful film franchise coming to a close, the stars behind Edward Cullen and Bella Swan may be exploring another film project together. When MTV News caught up with Stewart at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , we asked her to address rumors that she and Pattinson are working on a script together. “We are constantly working,” she said, “but no.” ” We are!” her “Snow White and the Huntsman” co-star Chris Hemsworth chimed in. ” ‘Snow White and the Huntsman 2’ written by us, and it might be more of a straight-to-video version if they let us write it.” “No, no, ” Stewart replied. Hemsworth defended his statement: “If they let us write it! If they let us write it.” “It’ll be better,” she said. “Our version? We’ve basically written it. No, I’m kidding. We’re gonna write the second one, all of us [in the cast].” “We are,” Hemsworth agreed. “It’s gonna be a group kind of exercise. Everyone just closes their eyes and start scribbling and then whatever’s on that page, [that’s the script].” Talk surrounding a “Snow White” sequel was previously reported back in April, when Universal was said to have approached screenwriter David Koepp about penning a script. Stewart told MTV News last year that she’s “over the moon” about this project and would “love” to work on more films if the franchise continues. While the movie’s director, Rupert Sanders, said the fairy-tale princess could go dark in a sequel, Stewart remains skeptical. “Well, I’m not saying anything. Nothing at all,” she laughed. “Let’s undermine our entire lead character in the very second [film]. It’s like, ‘No, that’s my whole [thing].’ It would be so weird to [make her darker]. It would break me, which would probably be interesting to watch.” “But then we have to rebuild you, which is exciting,” Hemsworth added. “That’s the third one, the rebuilding,” Stewart replied. “See how far in the future she lives?” the Aussie actor said, addressing us. “Never in the moment.” Well, she is coming off four films, soon to be five, with “The Twilight Saga.” And Hemsworth conceded, “She’s done this before, hasn’t she?” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ Unlike Any ‘Twilight’ Movie, Kristen Stewart Says

During MTV Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week, KStew explains why the final film of the saga left her ‘shell-shocked.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News Even with one enormous summer blockbuster a week away from release, Kristen Stewart excitedly discussed the conclusion to the “Twilight Saga” at a MTV Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week event for ” Snow White and the Huntsman .” ” Breaking Dawn – Part 2 ,” which won’t hit theaters until this November, surely ranks among one of the most anticipated films of the year, and Stewart counts herself among those eager to see the finale. “I’m excited. I have to see it done,” she told MTV News’ Josh Horowitz. “I haven’t seen it. It’s a big deal.” The story for the final “Twilight” will take the story in an intriguing different direction as Bella adjusts to life as a new mom and a new vampire, no longer the plain Jane every-girl. Stewart told MTV News that the change makes for a surprisingly different movie experience. “It’s so bizarre, the tone change. You’ve always been behind her. You’ve always been using her. She’s how you see that world,” she said. “Now that her perspective has completely changed, it’s like ‘Where am I?’ It’s really cool. I, myself, am still a little bit shell-shocked. It’s not like sitting down and watching a ‘Twilight’ movie.” From the sounds of it, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” will likely have more than a few award-worthy moments, much like “Part 1”. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson will be returning to the MTV Movie Awards , airing this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, to defend their long-running legacy as the Best Kiss champions, along with several other nominations for “Breaking Dawn – Part 1”. Madonna Kicks Off MDNA Tour Wrapped In Israeli Flag

Singer totes rifle, dances with monks and dresses up as marching band conductor during high-energy Tel Aviv concert on Thursday. By Gil Kaufman Madonna in her MDNA tour in Tel Aviv, Israel Photo: Getty Images Leave it to the queen of contradiction, Madonna , to kick off her world tour
in support of MDNA in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Thursday night by making a plea for peace in the Middle East during a show in which she brandished a machine gun and a revolver. Performing in front of 32,000 fans at a sold-out Ramat Gan Stadium, Madonna dubbed the show a “Concert for Peace” and handed out hundreds of tickets to Israeli peace activists, according to Israeli newspaper Ha’Aretz . The night was full of the usual mix of controversial images, bare-chested, buff male dancers and multiple high-fashion costume changes from the 53-year-old pop icon. Madonna opened the concert amid images of both crosses and satanic symbols as she took the stage to perform “Girl Gone Wild,” by breaking through the glass window of a confessional using a rifle, according to an Associated Press report. Wearing a black, skintight outfit, she performed the song accompanied by a troupe of dancers dressed as monks. She followed with “Gang Bang,” during which the huge onstage screens filled with blood stains and she brandished the firearms while wrestling with armed intruders. Another song, “Revolver,” had Madonna swinging around a Kalashnikov rifle as her dancers spun around holding Uzi machine guns. Making good on her rehearsed shout-out/dis
of Lady Gaga , “Express Yourself” bled into a bit of Mother Monster’s “Born This Way,” ending with the repeated refrain, “she’s not me.” For that song and the first MDNA single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” she was dressed as a marching band conductor and was surrounded by similarly dressed cheerleaders and drum majors. The show also featured several appearance by Madonna’s 11-year-old son, Rocco, who wore a monk’s robe and shiny blue t-shirt and orange headphones as he danced along to mum’s tunes. Madonna is not Jewish, but is a devotee of the Jewish mystical practice of Kabbalah, and the AP reported that at one point in the show she wrapped herself in an Israeli flag and called Israel the “energy center of the world.” According to Ha’Aretz , she also took an opportunity to address the audience about the prospects of long-elusive peace in the Middle East. “You can’t be a fan of mine and not want peace in the world,” she said during the two-hour show at the start of her most extensive world tour ever. “We all bleed the same color. If we can all rise above our egos and our titles and the names of our countries and our religions, and treat everyone around us with dignity and respect, then we are on the road to peace. If there is peace here in the Middle East, there can be peace in the whole world.” Related Artists Madonna
