Shade Files: Iggy Azalea Fires Shots At Lorde’s Kurt Cobain Tribute – “She’s Not His Peer…I Don’t Think It’s Appropriate”

Iggy better watch out….we hear #TeamLorde is almost as vicious as the BeyHive…. Iggy Azalea Criticizes Lorde For Kurt Cobain Tribute Australian-born rapstress Iggy Azalea is gracing the latest cover of Billboard magazine…..and throwing a little not-so-subliminal shade at fellow pop star Lorde. 17-year-old Lorde joined Nirvana  for a tribute to late lead singer Kurt Cobain back in April that received rave reviews, but Iggy says Lorde is too young to appropriately honor Kurt. via Billboard In this week’s Billboard cover story, reigning Hot 100 No. 1 artist Iggy Azalea had some critical words for another young superstar who’s no stranger to controversy. The target was Lorde and the topic was her recent collaborative performance with the surviving members of Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 10 in Brooklyn. “Nothing against her, but I think when you’re doing a tribute to someone that’s dead, generally it should be the person’s peer,” Azalea commented. “Lorde is not Kurt Cobain’s peer. No matter if she killed the performance or not, I just don’t think it’s appropriate.” Given her recent history of diving into spirited debates about the music industry, a rebuttal from Lorde on Azalea’s comments would not be surprising. Hmmmm. Do you agree with Iggy’s comments? Or does she deserve a ‘ho, sit down’ this time around?

Best Singers Ranked According to Vocal Range: Who’s the Greatest of All Time?!

A recent study of past and present pop music sought to rank the greatest singers of all time on the basis of their vocal range. We think it’s safe to say the results are… surprising. 17 Great Singers Ranked By Vocal Range! 1. Taylor Swift – #77 Taylor glammed up for the red carpet. Photos like this remind us why she’s had so many boyfriends. For example, if you can predict ahead of time which two crooners tied for the top spot, well then you, sir or madam, have quite the ear for music. You should probably replace all three judges on American Idol and produce Caleb Johnson ‘s first number one record. In other words, you can’t predict this list. No one can. We’ve all got our ideas of what constitutes good and bad music and this list throws concepts like creative ingenuity, songwriting ability and stage presence right out the window and judges artists solely by the highest and lowest notes they can hit. So there is a world in which Miley Cyrus and Bob Dylan are ranked side-by-side and you can’t even argue against it because, hey…it’s science. Check out the gallery above for some of the more jaw-dropping entries on the list. Bear in mind, this isn’t a comprehensive study of every singer that ever recorded, just a sampling of the top pop singers of the past 50 years, and the way they stack up against one another is sometimes unbelievable. Surprising revelations include: Katy Perry is a better singer than Taylor Swift? John Lennon and Elvis Presley have the exact same vocal range? Eminem is considered a singer?! So while John Kaufman won the big prize last night, this list answers the question of who is really The Voice. The answer(s) are certainly unexpected. As is this pretty decent cover of Dylan’s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” by Miley. Maybe they’re not so different after all! Miley Cyrus ft. Johnzo West – You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go

Talkback: With Nevermind’s 20th Anniversary Looming, Is It Time for the Kurt Cobain Biopic?

This month marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Nevermind , Nirvana’s 12-track (or 13-track, if you’re lucky enough to own a copy with the hidden track “Endless, Nameless”) masterpiece that trumpeted Gen X’s weariness and forced MTV to overhaul its entire perception and appreciation of “alternative” rock. Is it time for lead singer Kurt Cobain’s perpetually “in development” biopic to happen, or is there simply no one good enough for the role? Are Robert Pattinson , superfan Jared Leto , and Ewan McGregor all dismissible?
