I’d love to see a graphic representation of the intersection of two subsets: moviegoers who saw The Avengers , directed by Joss Whedon , and those who plan to see his interpretation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing . I wouldn’t be surprised if there was no intersection at all, just one big circle ( The Avengers ) and one little circle ( Much Ado ) sitting next to each other, but I give Whedon credit for taking time out of his blockbuster career — 12 days, to be exact — to make this labor of love and present the Bard in a contemporary setting. And yet, based on a handful of viewings of this trailer, Much Ado looks self-conscious and pretentious. Shot in black-and-white and — at least on this trailer — adorned with a jazzy soundtrack, the movie looks like Whedon’s interpretation of a Woody Allen film, and a lot of the actors do their scenes with a look in their eyes that says, I’m doin’ Shakespeare, bitches! The cast includes The Cabin In The Woods star Amy Acker as Beatrice, Alexis Denisof as Benedick, late S.H.I.E.L.D. Kansas Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Scripper Unemployment Benefits If you live in Kansas and wonder exactly how your tax dollars are being spent, wonder no more. The Kansas Supreme Court has ruled in favor of unemployment benefits for scrippers….so even if you don’t make it rain in person, you’re still contributing. via Business Inside r Strippers in Kansas are legitimate employees and not just independent contractors of the clubs where they work, the Kansas Supreme Court has ruled. The final decision in Milano’s v. Kansas Department of Labor Contributions Unit capped off a seven-year legal battle over whether strippers should be considered actual employees at Club Orleans, a gentleman’s club in Topeka, Kan., The Wichita Eagle reported Monday. The state’s Labor Department argued that the semi-nude dancers were employees because they were a key part of the club’s financial success. Friday’s decision means dancers are eligible for state unemployment benefits, and the club has to chip in to a state fund that pays for the benefits, according to the Star. Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock will take on a boy band for his next project and rabid fans will get a 3-D view. U.K. group One Direction will be the subject of a film by the Oscar-nominated director in a project that will be produced by X-Factor producer Simon Cowell. One Direction – Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – have had a meteoric rise since they were plucked into notoriety by Cowell’s original British version of X-Factor in 2010. The five-some quickly became one of the competition’s all-time popular acts. They finished in the final three, but more importantly, they amassed a massive fan base. In March 2012, One Direction’s debut album, Up All Night , made a splash stateside, making them the first British group to have a debut album enter the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at number 1. The band has sold over 13 million records worldwide and today the group released their sophomore album, Take Me Home , which includes the hit single, Live While We’re Young . The TriStar Pictures project is set for an August 30, 2013 release, which lands on Labor Day weekend in the U.S. and Canada. Barack won before Ohio, Virgina, and Florida’s votes even came in tonight! With his voice strong but quivering with passion, Barack gave a heartfelt speech after a long night of waiting for the electoral votes to come in. POTUS let us know that “The role of citizens of our democracy does not end with your vote” after he thanked US ALL for campaigning and voting during the last few months. According to The Huffington Post : President Barack Obama did not just win reelection tonight. His victory signaled the irreversible triumph of a new, 21st-century America: multiracial, multi-ethnic, global in outlook and moving beyond centuries of racial, sexual, marital and religious tradition. Obama, the mixed-race son of Hawaii by way of Kansas, Indonesia, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, won reelection in good part because he not only embodied but spoke to that New America, as did the Democratic Party he leads. His victorious coalition spoke for and about him: a good share of the white vote (about 45 percent in Ohio, for example); 70 percent or so of the Latino vote across the country, according to experts; 96 percent of the African-American vote; and large proportions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The Republican Party, by contrast, has been reduced to a rump parliament of Caucasian traditionalism: white, married, church-going — to oversimplify only slightly. “It’s a catastrophe,” said GOP strategist Steve Schmidt. “This is, this will have to be, the last time that the Republican Party tries to win this way.” The GOP chose as its standard-bearer Mitt Romney, whose own Mormon Church until recent decades discriminated officially against blacks. His campaign made little serious effort to reach out to Hispanics voters, and Romney hurt himself by taking far-right positions on immigration during the GOP primaries. He made no effort whatsoever in the black community. Obama reached out not only racially and ethnically, but in terms of lifestyle. Analysts made fun of, and Republicans derided, his campaign’s focus on discrete demographic and social slices of the electorate, including gays and lesbians. But the message was one about the future, not the American past. U.S. Census numbers tell the story. In the first decade of the new millennium, the Asian-American population rose 43.3 percent, the African-American population 12.3 percent, the Latino community 43 percent — and the white population just 5.7 percent. To be sure, the president won because of his stand on the issues — health care reform, Wall Street regulation, the auto industry bailout, among others. But his victory is something more: a sense that we are all in this together as a society, no matter who we are or how we live our lives. I saw this new America at the heart of the Obama reelection effort, in their campaign offices. In one office in Virgina, for example, the local campaign manager was Pakistani-American, the volunteers were of every race and background, the people heading out to handle the signup drive were Hispanic, and the event they were working on was a concert by Bruce Springsteen. Not only did Barack and his mayne man Joe win the electoral vote, they also won the popular vote too. While Mitt won the white vote (SMH), he failed to bring in votes with minorities. Barack also brought in votes from more than 60% of young voters (those ages 18-29) and, even though he fell from 44% to 39% of the overall white vote this election year, he still stomped Robney with a huge lead. To quote CNN “This is a crisis amongst the Republican Party”. Crisis or not, we’re pretty sure POUTUS can get a lot more isht done than Mittens would’ve been able to over the course of the next four years. Images via facebook
In a really bad way too… Yikes. Tamera Mowry-Housley (aka the Mowry twin that was NOT on “The Game”) is due to pop her gut full of vanilla-swirl any day now, but that time just can’t come soon enough as far as she’s concerned. The actress took to her PEOPLE celebrity blog to share her experience. At this point Tamera is 39 weeks along and her and hubby Adam Housley’s first child, a son, is due to arrive on October 30: Experts say only three to five percent of women actually have their babies on their due date. And women on average have their babies between the 38-41 week mark. Additionally, first-time moms tend to have their babies on the later side. As a result I have been telling myself, “Tamera, you might just have this baby a little late.” Although I am still seven days out, I have to say I’ve already begun Googling suggestions on how to induce my labor naturally. I don’t know about you, but sleepless nights are pretty much the norm for me now. I’ve found myself staring at the wall some evenings for two to five hours, pondering such questions as, “What kind of mom will I be?” “Do I have all my son‘s newborn essentials?” “Is the nursery efficient and safe?” “Do I have everything I need in my hospital bag?” “How will my delivery go?” “Will my delivery be three hours or 24 hours long?” “How will I handle the pain during my delivery?” “Am I having real contractions or Braxton Hicks?” “What is the difference between fake labor and real labor?” The list goes on and on. Don’t let me forget about the five trips a night to the restroom. It’s actually become comical now. I’ve stated that at this point, you can either laugh or cry — and I have chosen to laugh!! Is it just me, or does it take you other moms-to-be FOREVER to roll over in bed just to get out and USE the bathroom. I timed myself once out of curiosity, just see how long it took me to go to the restroom. It took me 15 MINUTES! My bathroom is honestly just a few feet away. And at that moment, I chose to laugh REAL hard. Now you know some of the reasons why I’ve chosen to begin Googling natural ways to induce labor! So far I have tried pineapple juice, evening primrose oil, drinking a glass of wine, dancing, squatting and finally, spicy food. However, that is where I had a problem. Spicy food didn’t really work for me for a number of reasons. One, it gave me major heartburn and acid reflux. Unfortunately, food poisoning came along with it. If you’re pregnant and have experienced food poisoning, I FEEL for you! It was like a lose, lose situation. Not to mention a loose, loose situation. Sorry to be graphic, but I didn’t know which way was up or down. I had contractions AND cramps all at the same time. Yuck. That was pretty gross. For those of you who are mothers, what are some other ways you can think of for Tamera to try naturally inducing labor? Ever since I became a belieber and got a Twitter account in February 2011, I wanted nothing more than to meet the one boy and his incredible crew who have completely changed my life. My positive attitude assured me Justin and his crew would follow me on Twitter, I’d get to see him in person, I’d go to one of his concerts, and I’d meet him and his crew someday. One by one, each of my dreams started coming true. Justin, Kenny, Scrappy, Scooter, and more all followed me…still waiting on Mr. Alfredo Flores, but I know he will someday. Then in November 2011 I drove 11 hours to California and made my dreams of seeing him in person come true outside the AMAs. Then a couple months ago I bought tickets to Believe tour which means I’m one step closer to seeing him in concert, and on September 1 st , I was finally able to meet him. A couple weeks ago I was looking at plane tickets online, trying to find good deals for round trip tickets to California for Labor Day weekend . I found a really great deal and decided to go for it. I knew Justin had been taking pictures with fans outside his rehearsal studio, so I was hoping I hadn’t missed out on all the action. On September 1 st I woke up at 3 a.m. and flew to California. A few hours later I drove to Los Angeles to hopefully meet Justin outside rehearsals. As soon as I got there, my friends told me I’d JUST missed Alfredo coming out and taking pictures with all of them, but he said as long as the group stayed pretty small, Justin would definitely come out. At that point we knew we couldn’t tweet or text anyone or else our chance of meeting Justin could be shattered. I stood there practically hyperventilating because I knew my chance of meeting Justin that day was really big. I eventually calmed down and we all just talked together until we heard a group of guys talking in the parking lot behind the hedge. We all stood up and in my mind I said, “This is it. I’m about to meet Justin Bieber.” As soon as we looked over, Justin walked around the corner holding a big box and said, “I brought you guys cake!” He opened the box and stood there for a few seconds, letting us soak in the fact that he was standing right in front of us holding a big cake for us to dig into. After a few seconds he put the cake on the ground and Kenny tried handing forks and plates out to everyone, but I think we were all in such shock that no one moved. I was the first to reach out and grab a fork from Kenny and then I looked at Justin and said, “So I can just take some?” I took a chunk out of the cake and Justin and Alfredo looked and me and said, “Oh wow just goin’ for it!” since I didn’t even think to take a plate. I mean if Justin Bieber brings you a cake, you don’t waste your time waiting for a plate, right? Before I took the first bite, I looked at Justin and said, “Can I feed YOU a bite?” Unfortunately Justin didn’t hear me the couple times I said it, but how amazing would that picture have been?…Justin and I feeding each other bites of cake. After I took the first bite Justin said, “Let’s take some pictures!” Since we were all in a line he made his way down to each of us. I was fourth in line, so as I was waiting my turn, I couldn’t even comprehend what was happening. The third girl took her picture and as I started walking toward Justin I said, “Am I next?” I felt his arm wrap around me and I put my hand on his back and felt his incredibly soft shirt. My friend took the picture and before I knew it, we were done, and I realized I hadn’t really even talked to him. As I walked away I said, “Thank you so much Justin” and he briefly turned to look at me before moving on to the next fans in line. It was the most surreal and special experience of my life. After meeting Justin I realized several members of the crew were standing by, and since I love them all like I love Justin, I wanted to talk and get pictures with them as well. I saw Scrappy first, standing there with Nick DeMoura. Scrappy and I have talked several times over Twitter so he knew who I was, but we’d never met before, so I stood next to him and just put my arm around him to give him a hug and before he recognized me he said, “Hey…” as if I was just some creepy fan who was about to molest him or something. Then I looked at him and said, “It’s me!” and he recognized me and said, “Oh hey!! You made it!” I talked to him the majority of the time and it was so incredible to finally have met him too. After talking to him for a few minutes I saw Alfredo and since I wasn’t able to get a picture with him before, I said, “Fredo I missed my opportunity to get a picture with you earlier!” so he said, “Aw ok let’s take one now!” We posed and after my friend took the picture, Fredo walked over and grabbed my camera and I said, “Is it cute? We have to get a good one!” He looked at it for at least 5 seconds and then said, “It’s so good.” And I said, “You’re just looking at yourself! The whole picture has to be cute!” and he said, “YOU’RE in the picture; it’s beautiful.” As you can probably guess, I practically died. After Alfredo I saw Kenny , so we talked for a second and I held my camera out and just assumed he would reach out and take the picture, but after a few seconds of smiling at my camera I said, “…Can you take the picture?” Haha, so he reached out and pressed the button. A couple seconds later I looked at my pictures with Kenny and noticed they were super bright so I went over to him again and said, “Kenny we have to take another picture! Your pearly whites blew out the other one!” As we were taking another couple pictures, Scrappy snuck behind and photo bombed them, haha! Love Scrappy. After about 15-20 minutes of talking with the crew and Justin taking pictures with every single fan there, they all said bye and started walking back inside. Justin said something like, “Thanks so much for coming! I love you! Bye!” and then turned the corner. A few seconds later we all looked around the corner and saw his security guard standing in front of Justin taking his shirt off and putting on a tank top that my friends gave him that said “I Link: Ever since I became a belieber and got a Twitter account in…

The adaptation, which also stars Kristen Stewart , Garrett Hedlund, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Terrence Howard, and more (phew!) debuted at Cannes but premieres at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival ahead of its December release. I’d count this as the most effective of the many trailers to debut so far; something about the pace and the energy and abandon glimpsed in snatches and quick edits ratchets up my excitement. The Telluride Film Festival offers a bright spotlight, showcasing a small selection of films over Labor Day weekend just as summer movies give way to a more serious season of cinema. Later this year, moviegoers will be talking about Bill Murray as Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Marion Cotillard as a woman who loses her legs to a killer whale and even a small town story starring Zac Efron as an aspiring NASCAR racer and Dennis Quaid as his father, an Iowa farmer. Those three films – Roger Michell’s Hyde Park on Hudson , Jacques Audiard ‘s Rust and Bone and Ramin Bahrani’s At Any Price – lead a roster of acclaimed and anticipated new movies that will screen at this weekend’s tony Telluride Film Festival. Telluride’s annual lineup is famously revealed just as attendees arrive in the Colorado mountain town for the four-day event. Even so Gary Meyer, one of the heads of the festival, privately previewed the lineup for a few journalists earlier this week and then swore them to secrecy. Telluride attendees consider movies sacred. Spoilers are frowned upon. “So, what do you think?” Meyer asked as he detailed the lineup for the 39th annual festival. “It was pretty much down to the wire,” he added about this year’s roster. He also teased that he and festival directors Tom Luddy and Julie Huntsinger have a surprise screening up their sleeves. It will screen in a still to be named slot some time between tomorrow and Labor Day. So now it can be revealed that even as it screens in the Venice Fest this weekend the anticipated American indie At Any Price will be unveiled in Telluride before heading to the Toronto International Film Festival next week. Filmmaker Ramin Bahrani has created a family drama that also explores globalization and Big Agriculture. In addition to Quaid and Efron, the film stars Heather Graham and Kim Dickens. Bahrani is expected to fly in from Venice in time for this weekend’s showings of the film here in Colorado. Also making the trek from Italy to Telluride will be French filmmaker Xavier Giannoli. His latest is described by the Telluride festival as a Kafkaesque tale. In Gianoli’s latest, Superstar , top name French actor Kad Merad plays the everyman. One day he wakes and heads to work only to discover that he’s famous. He has no idea why people are asking for his autograph and snapping his photo with their mobile phones while he rides to work on the Paris Metro. The comedy also stars Cecile de France who gained domestic attention for her turn in last year’s Dardenne Brothers drama, The Kid With A Bike . Roger Michell’s Hyde Park on Hudson was a safe bet for Telluride lineup prognosticators. It stars local Laura Linney, a festival fixture. In the film she stars alongside Bill Murray, appearing as FDR’s younger, distant cousin, Margaret Suckley. Linney’s character guides guests – in this case the King and Queen of England in 1939 – at Roosevelt’s residence in rural New York State and also falls for FDR. The new film will next head to the Toronto Film Festival. Sally Potter’s Ginger and Rosa will make the same journey. It stars Elle Fanning and Alice Englert as best friends in the 60s growing up and experiencing the anxieties and excitement of the era. The cast is rounded out by Timothy Spall, Oliver Platt, Annette Bening, Alessandro Nivola and Christina Hendricks. Also on tap are Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha starring Greta Gerwig and Michael Winterbottom’s Everyday with Shirley Henderson. Both will also go from Telluride to the Toronto fest next week. Telluride will pay tribute to a pair of European actors this weekend. Marion Cotillard will be honored and appear here alongside her latest, Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone from this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Also acclaimed at the French fest this year was Mads Mikkelsen. He turned heads for his starring role in Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt and has also been on the fest circuit in Nikolaj Arcel’s A Royal Affair . Both films will screen in Telluride this weekend as festival salutes the Danish leading man. When Lindsay Lohan signed on to play Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime’s Liz & Dick it was tough to know what to expect. Now that three new photos from the tele-biopic have landed, we have our answer: Behold, LiLo dressed up as Liz Taylor circa 1960 on the set of Cleopatra , LiLo as Liz Taylor marrying Richard Burton in 1964, and DEAR GOD, LILO AS LIZ TAYLOR WITH GIANT POOFY ’80S HAIR AND SHOULDER PADS. Guys, poofy ’80s hair was not part of the deal. It’s the Joan Collinsesque car shot that I find most mesmerizing: Art imitating real paparazzi-hounded life, that downturned gaze, the angst emanating from that pout, that giant helmet of hair in orbit around her head.
