Excuse Adam Lambert While He Kisses Some Guy…

Adam Lambert paid homage to Jimi Hendrix at a concert in France last night. And to the countless music fans that have often mistaken the lyrics to this icon’s classic 1967 single “Purple Haze.” As part of his Glam Nation Tour in Europe, Lambert treated concert goers to a rendition of this single, switching up the words from “Excuse me while I kiss the sky” to “Excuse me while I kiss some guy.” Not merely apt for Adam, the latter verse has been sung so often that a website has actually been created in its honor . Click on the images above to enlarge shots of Lambert on stage. Then, sit back, relax and watch the video of him covering Hendrix below. It’s great stuff. Purple Haze Renditon

Adam Lambert Talks Importance Of Rhinestones, Pre-Show ‘Rituals’

‘We get in front of the mirror and kind of play every night,’ Lambert tells MTV News of makeup artist Sutan on Glam Nation Tour. By Jim Cantiello Adam Lambert Photo: MTV News Believe it or not, Adam Lambert does not wake up with rhinestones affixed to his cheekbones. The pop star, currently headlining his in-demand Glam Nation Tour , gets creative with his glittery stage makeup moments before showtime. “We get in front of the mirror and kind of play every night,” Lambert told MTV News backstage at a recent sold-out New York City tour stop. “We just create and it’s fun. So sometimes there’s like rhinestones stuck all over [the] side of my head. Sometimes we give a little Eastern bindi action. Sometimes there [are] no stones whatsoever,” he added. The “we” Lambert was referring to includes makeup guru Sutan, who has long been among Lambert’s circle of friends. But fans may know the flamboyant makeup artist from his stint on “America’s Next Top Model.” “He’s so funny and has such a great energy, and I really like his work,” Lambert gushed. Rhinestones and face glue, however, aren’t the only tools Adam needs to prep for a show. In order to maintain his powerhouse, octave-jumping voice, Lambert has finally zeroed in on a secret weapon: aerobics. “I never used to be one to do any sort of ritual before I performed and just recently, at the start of this tour, I decided to start coming up with a routine. And it’s really helped me,” the singer said. “I exercise; I do like a cardio thing. If I’m in a hotel with a treadmill I either run for 20 minutes or I get on a stationary bike,” Lambert continued. “It makes you feel good, it gets the endorphins going. It also kind of helps warm up the voice. And then I do a [proper] vocal warm-up.” As fun as the face painting is, the “Idol” star knows that ultimately, it’s all about delivering the music. “Those two things — just a little exercise and that vocal warm-up — keep me at my best. With fans “waiting out on the street , people are so dedicated, they deserve the best,” Lambert said. His Glam Nation Tour continues through September , before heading overseas later this fall. Adam Lambert Says Tour Will Only Be As Wild As His Audience

‘If I’m feeling a bunch of people viscerally wanting to grab at me, I’ll let them grab at me,’ singer says. By Jim Cantiello Adam Lambert Photo: MTV News Adam Lambert is never one to censor himself, either onstage or during interviews, so when the unpredictable glam-pop star announced his first headlining tour, some expected he’d deliver a wild and raunchy rock-and-roll show. It turns out Lambert’s Glam Nation Tour , currently playing to packed venues across the United States, is a relatively family-friendly affair. MTV News caught up with the singer backstage at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, where he shrugged off assumptions that his sold-out shows would not be suitable for grandma. “What did you expect, nudity?” he laughed. Although the choreography is no more suggestive than a Pussycat Dolls concert, Adam admitted that some nights are more outrageous than others. “Nothing’s as planned as people think. … I’m kind of fly by the seat of my pants,” Lambert told MTV News. “It’s like a mirror… and whatever the audience is throwing at you, you kind of reflect, and vice versa. If I’m feeling a bunch of people viscerally wanting to grab at me, I’ll let them grab at me, if I can reach them. … If there’s a cute boy in the audience, I met get a little …you know.” Energy from his band also inspires Adam to push boundaries. Explaining Tuesday night’s off-the-cuff face-licking with bassist Tommy Joe Ratliff, Lambert conceded, “I was feeling it. He had extra lip gloss on. It looked pretty. It grabbed my eye.” But no matter how revved up the “Idol” star gets — and no matter how many cute boys are cheering him on from the front row — he’s learned his limits since causing a stir by simulating oral sex onstage at the American Music Awards last year. “That’s for my bedroom.” Do you want Adam Lambert to let loose onstage, or would you rather he concentrated on singing? Justin Bieber Opening Act Jessica Jarrell ‘Excited’ To Tour

‘It’s overwhelming, but a lot of fun to look out and see all of those girls screaming,’ the 15-year-old says of opening for Bieber. By Jocelyn Vena Jessica Jarrell Photo: MTV News HARTFORD, Connecticut — It may be Justin Bieber ‘s world, but tourmate Jessica Jarrell seems determined to prove she deserves a place in the pop universe. The 15-year-old Mercury Records singer is opening up for Bieber this summer as the teen sensation kicks off his much-anticipated My World Tour . And while Bieber admitted some pre-tour jitters on Twitter , Jarrell was already sounding like an old pro, saying she had a “rush” before the kickoff show on Wednesday in Hartford, Connecticut, at the XL Center. “I was a little nervous earlier. I was like, ‘Oh my God! There’s going to be so many people,’ but you know I’m really excited,” she told MTV News when we caught up with her on her tour bus. “It’s overwhelming but it’s a lot of fun to be able to look out and see all of those girls screaming. It’s just crazy! You get an adrenaline rush!” In the moments leading up to the show, Jarrell said she hadn’t spoken to Bieber that day, but guessed what he might be feeling on his big day. “I haven’t talked to him today! I’m sure he’s good,” she said. “I’m sure he’s excited.” In addition to opening for Bieber (Sean Kingston is also on the bill), Jarrell also makes an appearance during Justin’s set to perform their duet “Overboard.” “I come out during his set and there’s a bunch of fog on the stairs,” she teased. “It’s going to be really cool. I’m excited about that song. It’s a lot of fun. We goof off and have a great time. We rehearsed it [Tuesday]; we had a really good time. It sounds great to be in an arena. It all sounds really good, the whole show, the lighting, everything.” Will you see Justin Bieber on tour this summer? Let us know in the comments! Orianthi Talks Comparisons Between Adam Lambert And Michael Jackson

‘He’s got that showmanship thing,’ Lambert tourmate and onetime MJ guitarist tells MTV News. By James Montgomery with reporting by Jim Cantiello Adam Lambert Photo: Jemal Countess/ Getty Images Among his most dedicated fans — the Super Glamberts of the world — Adam Lambert is readily referred to as the second coming of Michael Jackson . This has a whole lot to do with his style, showmanship and the fact that he covered MJ’s “Black or White” during his run on “American Idol.” To most of us, it’s a comparison that raises eyebrows, but it might not be as off-base as you’d think. At least not according to singer/guitarist Orianthi. She can see the similarities between the two, and she would know better than anyone. After all, she’s about the only artist we can think of who’s worked with both Jackson and Lambert — as a guitarist on the late King of Pop’s planned This Is It concert series at London’s O2 arena and the opening act on Lambert’s current Glam Nation Tour . So when MTV News spoke to the Australian-born guitar goddess before Lambert’s two-night Glam Nation stand in New York, we asked her about those comparisons, and this is what she had to say: “Adam’s amazing, he really is. He’s got that showmanship thing; he’s a real entertainer. And that’s what Michael was — he was an incredible entertainer. He’s an amazing artist, and it’s great to be on this tour with him.” While traveling as a part of Lambert’s road show has been rather thrilling, when pressed, Orianthi will admit that it sort of pales in comparison to her experience of working with Michael Jackson. After all, that truly was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And while Lambert is great, he hasn’t reached MJ’s legendary status just yet. “Getting to work with him for the three months I did was amazing,” she said of Jackson. “He had such spirit. When he walked in the room, he just had this great presence about him and encouraging, really sweet. [He is] definitely very missed.” What do you think of the Lambert/MJ comparisons? Share your thoughts in the comments below! MTV will be remembering the life and music of Michael Jackson all weekend. Don’t miss the one-hour special “Michael Jackson’s Influence on Music,” airing Friday at 6:30 p.m. on MTV. Rabid Adam Lambert Fans Line Up 24 Hours Before New York Show

For Lambert, ‘I’d sleep on the sidewalk again,’ one fan says. By Jim Cantiello Adam Lambert Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Scorching temperatures and puzzled looks from passersby could not keep Adam Lambert fans from lining up outside New York’s Nokia Theatre a full 24 hours in advance of his Glam Nation Tour stop. For Eileen Monahan, spending the night sleeping on a “disgusting” Times Square sidewalk in front of the venue was the only way to guarantee she had the best spot inside the general-admission concert. “I want to be up front,” insisted Monahan, before admitting, “[For Adam], I’d sleep here again.” While Monahan only trekked from the Bronx, many traveled thousands of miles to see their favorite artist rock New York City. Fans from Denmark, Venezuela, England, Japan and Singapore mingled with Georgia peaches, Connecticut natives and Californians, making Adam’s Glam Nation a truly international affair. Even Peru had a message for Adam, via superfan Lilli Becker. “Peru represent! We love you, baby! I have a llama for you,” exclaimed Becker, just in case Adam ever wants a ride over the Andes. Perhaps the most exotic fans on the Lambert line were the dudes. Brooklyn native Chris Leavitt fessed up that his lady was the one to convert him into a Glamily member initially, but now he’s excited to “glam out” with the best of them. (His homemade jeans — complete with hand-drawn dragon and space rocks — certainly spoke volumes.) Elsewhere, 17-year old Brooklyn boy Billy Tropea was stoked to make Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation his first concert experience ever. “His hair is friggin’ awesome. I really want his hair,” he said. “I’m very jealous.” Some of Adam’s more seasoned followers insist they haven’t been this gung-ho about a musician since the days of Beatlemania. “I was still stalking Paul McCartney for awhile. I was on his website all the time, but now … sorry, Paul. Adam’s taken your place,” said Claudia Cohill. Armed with bags of snacks, bottles of water, and enough homemade signs to keep office supply stores in business through 2020, fans passed the time by taking bathroom breaks at a nearby McDonalds and dishing about their favorite glamtastic performances (his sultry six-minute acoustic take on “Whole Lotta Love,” which he debuted on tour, seems to be #1 for most). As the mass of Lambert lovers stretched around the block toward West 45th street, fans promised each other there would be no shoving once the doors opened at 7 p.m. “We made friends with people [in line]. We like being fair. No cutting,” promised 20-year-old Melanie Pellegrino. But if any latecomers try to sneak their way up front, the early birds are ready to throw some ‘bows. “I’m willing to cut a bitch!” one joked. Lambert’s tour moves on to Connecticut and New Jersey after his sold-out shows in New York. Related Artists Adam Lambert
