Director John Singleton was beaming, co-stars Sigourney Weaver and Lily Collins strolled the red carpet, and hey, look! Tween pop star (and rumored former Lautner galpal) Selena Gomez popped up to lend her support! How sweet. And she brought her current paramour, Justin Bieber! Who looks totally thrilled to be there. As such, in recent months, we’ve chatted with Lautner and co-star Lily Collins about everything from the film’s complex and stylized action to its sweet, believable romance, to the actors’ action-star influences and intense prep work. Naturally, much ado has been made of the steamy kisses Lautner and Collins share, as well as how much action and stunt work they do in the film, so on Thursday night, when MTV News headed out to the star-studded premiere, where Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were among the VIP attendees, we asked the leading man and lady to compare and contrast the challenges involved in filming action scenes vs. kissing scenes. “Ooof. Two different kinds of action, right?” Lautner said with a smile. “We’ve got both of them in this movie, that’s for sure. In the latest issue of VMAN, the dreamy actor doesn’t take any credit for the mammoth success of The Twilight Saga, instead telling the magazine: “It’s definitely these characters we are playing. [Fans] are in love with Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black. They feel like they know them. We are just lucky enough to be playing them.” Stare all you’d like, ladies. He’s not going anywhere. True, but it’s possible the looks and the talent of Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson play some role. Taylor, of course, would never complain about his stardom. At tonight’s MTV Movie Awards , “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” is up for eight tubs of Golden Popcorn, including Lautner’s nods for Best Male Performance and Best Kiss with Kristen Stewart. Movie Awards supervising producer Jane Mun told MTV News that Lautner will certainly have people talking once the show wraps Sunday night thanks to a few surprises in store for the very toned actor — but will he lose his shirt? “Um, I don’t know,” Mun teased. “I can’t spill the beans. Singer is the first performer announced for the June 25 event, which will help victims of Japan’s recent earthquakes and tsunamis. By James Dinh Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images Just a few weeks after the May 23 release of her highly anticipated new album, Born This Way, Lady Gaga will take the stage to perform at the MTV Video Music Aid Japan on June 25. According to a press release, Gaga is the first performer to be announced for the 10th annual MTV Video Music Awards Japan, which is being dubbed the Video Music Aid Japan this year in order to raise awareness about the recent natural disasters that hit the country and benefit the Japanese Red Cross. The international event will be hosted by Japanese pop sensation AKB48 and feature a string of performances from international, regional and Japanese artists. The broadcast will be a highlight of MTV Japan’s Music of Hope campaign, which is the channel’s multiplatform response to the tragic March 11 earthquake and tsunami. In addition to the usual award-show traditions, the program is expected to feature news about the artists and youths who have been impacted by the country’s natural disasters. MTV Video Music Aid Japan will broadcast live from the Makuhari Messe convention center near Tokyo on MTV Japan, MTV Korea, MTV China and MTV Southeast Asia. In addition, a special one-hour version of the event will air on MTV channels worldwide as an installment of the network’s weekly live music series. Mother Monster’s performance at the VMAJ is just another attempt for the pop superstar to assist in the Japan relief efforts. On the very same day that the earthquake hit, Lady Gaga announced that she had designed a special prayer wristband with all of the proceeds from sales going to benefit those affected by the disaster. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Lautner Photo: MTV News With production on the two-part “Breaking Dawn” about to finish, the impending “Twilight” finale was an unavoidable topic during our exclusive sit-down with superstar heartthrob Taylor Lautner, a.k.a. werewolf Jacob Black. Wednesday’s 30-minute interview for “MTV First: Taylor Lautner” was pegged to Lautner’s highly anticipated first non-“Twilight” leading role in “Abduction,” but of course we had to bring up the fourth and fifth films in “The Twilight Saga” — specifically Lautner’s feelings about finishing up filming the epic and hugely popular franchise. “We have a couple more days and it’s over — it’s a crazy thought,” Lautner said. “I think it’s mixed emotions, for sure,” he added, regarding his feelings on nearing the end of filming. “Half of me says, ‘This will be a relief. I get some time off, I get to spend some time with family and friends and do other things,’ but the other half says, ‘This is going to be so weird.’ I’ve been filming with these people for years, so it will definitely be a bummer. It will be sad on the last day,” he admitted. When asked whether he thinks he and his fellow castmates will shed any tears when production officially wraps, Lautner admitted, “I think there will.
