Some of that footage became Tron: The Next Day (Flynn Lives Revealed), which is on YouTube now. You can watch the ten-minute short after the break. A lot of this would have actually been good so see before Tron: Legacy, as most of the running time… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : /Film Discovery Date : 13/03/2011 02:38 Number of articles : 2

Brett Favre to Go Dancing With the Stars?

Jenn Sterger and NFL fans everywhere have seen as much of Brett Favre as they can stomach, but the man has many fans and know how to spark debate. That’s why one fellow Dancing With the Stars alum and NFL MVP would love to see him follow in his footsteps and shake his booty on the hit show this year. Preferably without sexting pics of his junk during rehearsal. “Let me think on what old retired NFL guy should join the show,” Kurt Warner told PopEater . “Brett Favre. That’s a good idea. Controversy is good for ratings.” Kurt, who made it within one episode of the finals in his appearance, previously criticized Favre for the off-field sexting shenanigans that dented his legacy. “I do think [that] hurt his legacy to some degree,” he said. “I do think people look at him differently now – at least in the short term – than five years ago.” A turn on DWTS could help restore his image … but he’d have to be given a chance first, which a show source says has no chance in hell of happening. “No way would [ DWTS ] want any part of Brett,” the source said. “They love having colorful people but you have to remember this is a family show and not the right fit for someone accused of e-mailing private photos of himself to young ladies.” Sums it up well. Jenn Sterger might work, though. Wowza.

‘Little Fockers’ Celebrates At The Holiday Box Office

‘Fockers’ won a meager first-place prize, while ‘True Grit’ blasted its way to second place. By Josh Wigler Ben Stiller in “Little Fockers” Photo: Universal Studios/DW Studios ‘Tis the season to be jolly, but while the holiday spirit was present in millions of households this past weekend, it wasn’t felt with nearly as much fanfare at the movies. It was a fairly quiet weekend at the box office this holiday season, with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro’s “Little Fockers” leading the pack with an estimated $34 million from Friday through Sunday and a five-day total of $48.3 million. But while Jack still has his eye on Greg, few people entered the circle of trust this go-around, as “Fockers,” the second sequel to the critically acclaimed “Meet the Parents,” failed to match the success of its predecessor “Meet the Fockers,” which earned $70.5 million in its first five days in 2004. Indeed, the second-place showing for “True Grit” was more impressive than the first-place “Fockers” in many respects. For one, the Jeff Bridges-starring Western drew $36.8 million since opening on Wednesday of last week, nearly crushing its entire $38 million production budget in a single session. “True Grit” also marked the single-best opening for any Coen brothers movie to date, easily surpassing the $19.1 million “Burn After Reading” earned in 2008. “Tron Legacy” remained on the gaming grid this weekend with a third-place finish worth $25.6 million. The movie suffered a steep 54 percent drop from its opening performance last weekend, leaving some to wonder whether Disney’s decision to revitalize the science-fiction franchise was a sound one. The weekend’s biggest disappointment was Jack Black’s “Gulliver’s Travels,” which debuted Saturday and ended the weekend in seventh place with $7.2 million. Releasing the film on Christmas Day was a risky gamble on Fox’s part, and despite the message that “Gulliver” has to offer, size really does matter when it comes to business, and unfortunately for the studio, the opening numbers on “Gulliver” are simply too small to consider the film anything but a flop. The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Little Fockers” ($34 million) #2 “True Grit” ($25.6 million) #3 “Tron Legacy” ($20.1 million) #4 “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” ($10.8 million) #5 “Yogi Bear” ($8.8 million) Upcoming Releases It’s going to be another quiet weekend at the box office next week, with smaller-budget dramas “Another Year” and “Blue Valentine” sneaking in as the weekend’s only new releases with a combined total of 10 theaters between the two of them. ‘Tron Legacy’ Is A Virtual Hit At The Weekend Box Office

Disney’s relaunch of the 1980s sci-fi classic soared to the top of the box-office charts, while “Yogi Bear” feasted on a modest second-place snack. By Josh Wigler Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde in “Tron Legacy” Photo: Disney Twenty-eight years after the first film’s release, the “Tron” franchise is officially back on the gaming grid. Walt Disney Pictures have poured a lot of time, money and effort behind “Tron Legacy,” and it shows: the visceral techno-punk ride relies strongly on big-budget effects and a bass-heavy score from Daft Punk, all of which work on a surface level, but the question remains was it a commercial success? Monetarily, “Legacy” was the weekend’s clear winner, taking home a first-place prize worth $43.6 million. But some have been hesitant to call the result a flat-out victory, given the fact that it cost a reported $170 million to produce the Jeff Bridges and Olivia Wilde-starring reboot. That price tag doesn’t even account for the various marketing and promotional efforts, which had more to do with “Tron” as a brand and less with the actual movie itself. With so much riding on solid box-office returns, the opening-weekend performance of “Legacy” wasn’t exactly stellar. In comparison, just a year ago James Cameron’s “Avatar” debuted in theaters to a relatively lackluster $77 million opening weekend before going on to rule the box office for several weeks on a successful quest to become the world’s highest-grossing movie of all time. It’s not likely that “Legacy” will meet that same level of success, but with the Christmas holiday season in full effect as of next weekend, the “Tron” sequel could be saved if it shows some serious staying power. Even if “Tron” didn’t set the box office fully ablaze, it was easily the leader of the pack amongst new competition. “Yogi Bear” broke into the picnic basket and came up with a mere $16.7 million, not a surprising turnout given the mostly negative reviews thrown in the family film’s direction. James L. Brooks’ last week’s box-office champ sunk to third place with a relatively disappointing $12.4 million take. Awards-season favorites “The Fighter” and “Black Swan” expanded locations this weekend, and it showed in the numbers: The Mark Wahlberg-starring boxing drama punched out $12.2 million for fourth place while Natalie Portman’s ballet thriller danced up $8.3 million to land in seventh place. The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Tron Legacy” ($43.6 million) #2 “Yogi Bear” ($16.7 million) #3 “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” ($12.4 million) #4 “The Fighter” ($12.2 million) #5 “The Tourist” ($8.7 million) Upcoming Releases It’s Christmas time at the box office next weekend, an occasion marked by the arrival of Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro’s “Little Fockers” on Wednesday alongside the Coen brothers’ latest western, “True Grit.” The competition blows up on Saturday when Jack Black sails onto screens with “Gulliver’s Travels.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Tron Legacy,” “Yogi Bear” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Tron: Legacy’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics call Disney’s reboot/sequel a ‘catchy popcorn pleasure’ that is ‘destined to split audiences.’ By Eric Ditzian “Tron Legacy” Photo: Disney It’s been a good year for studios that waited three decades to update old-school flicks. In April, Warner Bros. gave 1981’s “Clash of the Titans” a coat of CGI splendor and ended up with a film that grossed almost $500 million worldwide. Can Disney, which has resurrected 1982’s computer-world-based adventure film “Tron” for a new generation, mirror the success of “Clash”? At this point, at least, “Tron: Legacy” is receiving far kinder reviews than “Clash.” That doesn’t mean, of course, that “Tron” can top the $61 million domestic opening of the latter. Disney’s 3-D film is predicted to land somewhere in the $40-45 million range. Will it defy expectations? Will positive word of mouth spread? Is the movie worth a trip to the theater on opening weekend? Check out what the critics are saying about “Tron: Legacy” and decide for yourself. The Story “Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the son of video game developer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), is left as the uninterested heir to his father’s corporation after the elder Flynn’s disappearance 20 years earlier. Following a mysterious signal, Sam finds himself pulled into the same computer world that has trapped his father. Reunited, the Flynns team with a Quorra (Olivia Wilde), a cyber warrior, to defeat Clu, a program left in charge of the Grid whose rise to power puts both the computer world — and our world — in danger.” — Silas Lesnick, ComingSoon.net The Comparison to the Original “[T]his is one of the smartest ideas for a reboot in yonks. Where its fellow 1982 sci-fi releases, ‘E.T.’ and ‘Blade Runner,’ are still universally celebrated, ‘Tron’ ‘s visuals and ponderous tone have aged as badly as Manic Miner. The concept at the Disney film’s core, however, remains beautifully simple: What if a man got sucked into a computer? That notion, revisited with today’s turbo-boosted VFX technology, has now given Mickey Mouse a stonking tentpole. And make no mistake, ‘Tron Legacy’ — part sequel, part remake — is a proper event movie, complete with nattily digitized Cinderella’s Castle at the start, a journey to a fully realized alien world and the best 3D since ‘Avatar.’ ” — Nick de Semlyen, Empire The Effects “The FX in ‘Tron: Legacy’ have an almost Einsteinian elegance: They infuse light with gravity. If one of the discs hits a combatant, he’ll shatter into glassy fragments, and Sam, absorbing the physics of the game, must learn to treat his body almost as part of the surrounding architecture. He becomes a ruthless digital specter. As long as it’s engaged in light-hurling bouts of force, or motorcycle chases through a landscape so ominously enveloping it looks like ‘Blade Runner’ after gentrification, ‘Tron: Legacy’ is a catchy popcorn pleasure.” — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly The Dissenters “This is one of those big-budget projects destined to split audiences (a good thing, always). Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who did the ‘Halo’ and ‘Gears of War’ commercials, ‘Tron: Legacy’ comes to life when Sam, played by a too-cool-for-school Garrett Hedlund, learns the ways of the Lightcycles and the perilous joys of racing on ‘ribbons of light.’ Here, we get the sweep and simple excitement we need. Elsewhere, we get exposition more sluggish than the stuff we had to wade through in the second and third ‘Matrix’ movies, and a strained, opaque brand of intellectual-property mythology that might mean tons to ardent fans of the first ‘Tron,’ but less to others.” — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune The Final Word ” ‘Tron: Legacy’ is a surprising film for many reasons, not the least of which being that it contains more substance than is easily explored — if also to some extent, articulated — in just one viewing. And perhaps it might seem like a pre-emptive defense against logical or narrative shortcomings to make one of its central themes the idea that perfection, as we can imagine it, is ultimately unknowable. But it’s a point that’s well-taken, and if I have to endure the kind of imperfection that produces a film like ‘Tron: Legacy,’ which is interesting, inspiring and for better or worse, simply incomparable, then it’s worth it.” – Todd Gilchrist, Cinematical Check out everything we’ve got on “Tron: Legacy.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
