Wanna Be Starting Something: Liberace’s Gay Lover Says He Had A Freaky Down Low Six-Year Relationship With Michael Jackson

Was MJ moonwalking on some man-backs?? Liberace’s Lover Says He Has Gay Relationship With Michael Jackson Liberace ‘s former lover is opening up about an affair he had with Michael Jackson. Via NY Daily News reports: Scott Thorson, whose memoir about his relationship with the rhinestone-loving Liberace inspired HBO flick “Behind the Candelabra,” claims that he and the King of Pop had a years’-long romantic relationship. “Liberace introduced me and Michael in the late 1970s,” Thorson, 54, told The Sun. “It was right around the time ‘Thriller’ was coming out and Michael and I became lovers.” Thorson also says that Jackson joined Liberace at his compound in Palm Springs to heal after undergoing plastic surgery at the same time. He first spoke out about the affair to The National Enquirer in 2004, when he described his initial sexual encounter with Jackson at the home of the late British female impersonator Danny La Rue. “I was standing only a few feet away from Michael when he motioned with his hand to come over to him and join him in bed,” Thorson told the tabloid. “I climbed onto the bed. Our lovemaking session lasted about an hour.” (At the time of the report, Jackson’s attorney Steve Cochran denied the report to the Daily News, calling Thorson’s story is “false trash.”) But Thorson’s interview for The Sun maintains that the extent of the affair was much longer than a few quick trysts, as he once said. “Our relationship went on for six or seven years,” Thorson told the newspaper. “Michael was very generous, too. He treated me well.” Though Thorson is enjoying a moment of recognition, thanks to HBO’s Liberace biopic, he was only able to see the Hollywood representation of his life after a brothel owner bailed him out from jail last Sunday. This guy sounds like an attention slorin’ bitter beyotch. This story is patheitc. A shabby, bitter old fool longing for his salad days with long deceased lover, Liberace, lashes out by hurling ugly, unproven accusations at a second equally deceased man. ‘Behind The Candelabra’: Soderbergh Bros Discuss Who’s ‘The Top’ In Liberace’s Bed

I’ve been sold on Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace movie   Behind The Candelabra   since the trailer for the HBO movie hit the web earlier this month. But if you need further convincing, the filmmaker drops some interesting details about the movie in a free-ranging discussion with his younger, gay brother Charley Soderbergh in Out magazine . Behind the Candelabra,  which premieres on HBO on May 26,  tells the story of the flamboyant pianist’s love affair with the much younger Scott Thorson.   Michael Douglas and Matt Damon play the star-crossed lovers, and the trailer, which I’ve posted below, makes the movie look like an over-the-top romp through the back pages of Las Vegas-style opulence. But it’s also reassuring to read Soderbergh tell his lookalike brother, who’s an Atlanta-based hair stylist, that Behind The Candelabra is not going to be an empty exercise in camp: ” I wanted the movie to be very generous to Lee and Scott. I took them seriously, and I took the relationship seriously. It was a real relationship that was derailed because of some very odd external forces, some of them social and some professional. But there was an extended period where they were fat and happy. And if Lee hadn’t worked in a business where he thought that was a problem, or being gay was a problem, I think there would have been a very different outcome. It’s compelling to watch the two of them together. It’s sort of a  Thelma & Louise  thing—they decide to jump off the cliff together. Another fascinating segment of the interview has the brothers Soderbergh discussing scenes from Behind The Candelabra in which Liberace and Thorson argue over porn and who will be “the top” and who will be “the bottom” in the bedroom. As Charley points out, the debates aren’t that different from ones he’s witnessed between straight couples. Out:  One of the most distinctive scenes, perhaps because it’s so rare to see it portrayed honestly in a movie, was the argument they have about who will be a top or a bottom. SS:  Whenever you’re in a sexual relationship that lasts long enough, at some point someone is going to hit on something that they want to do and the other person doesn’t want to do. That’s unfortunate, because it’s really hard to put that genie back in the bottle once it’s come out. If you’re lucky there’s some synchronicity that works out, and on the second Tuesday of every month, you get to do that. That’s absolutely a conversation straight couples have all the time. It doesn’t necessarily have the same significance, but oh, absolutely. CS:  I’ve been privy to conversations between a married male and female couple when one of them wants to try it and the other is balking. And the physical implications are the first thing they’re afraid of, and the social implications are the second thing. So we have two layers of fear. And I just stand there with a smile on my face, thinking,  I can’t wait to see how you work this out. SS:  It’s one of my favorite scenes in the film because it is so blunt and so funny. “Why am I the Lucy in this relationship?” CS:  “Because I’m the bandleader and have the nightclub act.” SS:   That’s [screenwriter] Richard [LaGravenese] really hitting one out of the park. But it is fascinating, because you have Scott saying, “I’m OK with  this , but I’m not OK with  that .” And Lee doesn’t understand, because to him it seems like hypocrisy. I find that really true to life, in the sense that our feelings about sexuality aren’t necessarily linear. Everybody’s got some dot on a line with 10 points on it, and one is out of sync or in the wrong order. It’s a very complex, powerful area of our lives, and it creates really fascinating emotions and delusions and omissions. And I thought,  What an interesting conversation, especially if Lee’s the one in the power position. CS:  Another part of that scene is, “I don’t know how you can watch that stuff,” referring to the porn on the TV. “How does he get it in his mouth?” I’ve talked to gay and straight couples who say, “I don’t know why you watch that stuff, it makes me feel unloved.” And the other one is like, “It’s no big deal!” The brothers also engage in a lively discussion of their childhood that includes a substantial discussion of the cult film, The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T, which they watched every Christmas. It’s worth checking out. More on Behind The Candelabra :  WATCH:’ Behind The Candelabra’ Trailer — Will Movie Convey Liberace’s Cultural Impact? Follow Frank DiGiacomo on  Twitter. Behind the Candelabra Peek: Michael Douglas as Liberace, Matt Damon As Alleged Lover

Steven Soderbergh refuses to let up his breakneck pace of filming and is already at work on his Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra , which stars Michael Douglas as the flamboyant sparkly-suited superstar pianist. Beside Douglas and his bouffant in the first pic from the set, we find co-star Matt Damon, who’s rocking quite the ’70s coif himself as Liberace’s companion and alleged gay lover Scott Thorson. Ladies and gentleman, we may have found the only man in Hollywood who can indeed rock a blonde He-Man pageboy ‘do. Somebody call Jon M. Chu ! Behind the Candelabra boasts a script by Richard LaGravanesse and a supporting cast that includes Debbie Reynolds, Rob Lowe, Scott Bakula, Dan Aykroyd, and Nicky Katt. The film will be released by HBO and is based on Thorson’s autobiography Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace , which recounted the pair’s longstanding relationship and alleged romantic involvement. After Magic Mike, Still-Retiring Steven Soderbergh Looks to TV and Less ‘Important’ Movies

The Magic Mike director gave insight into his future endeavors once his hard stop to movie making begins in six months. He told Reuters that a book and even television work may occupy his interests, following in the footsteps of a number of filmmakers who are crossing over to the small screen in the past several years. “I’ve been planning this for five years … I gave myself an out date and I’m right on schedule. I turn into a pumpkin in January,” Steven Soderbergh told Reuters . He also noted that he’s over making what he dubbed as “important movies,” adding that Che satisfied that desire. Following his latest, Soderbergh will finish off the thriller The Bitter Pill starring Channing Tatum, who also stars in Magic as well as Rooney Mara. And he also has the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon shooting this summer. Candelabra may be a window, in fact, into the Oscar winning director’s future since it’s an HBO production. “After I take my self-imposed sabbatical, if I’m going to come back and do something, I think it’s more likely that it would be on television than it would be a movie,” he said.” What do you think of Soderbergh’s move to TV? Kristen Wiig on Paul, Her Future at SNL and How Her Mom Doesn’t Like Gilly

Kristen Wiig realizes that not everyone is going to universally love every single character that she creates on Saturday Night Live . It’s not that she spends a lot of time (or any time, for that matter) thinking about what the overall consensus will be, but it’s kind of hard to ignore when her own mother calls to voice disapproval over a new character.

Steven Soderbergh Still Planning to End Great Career with Television Remake

Nothing like going out on top? Speaking with Studio 360’s Kurt Anderson , beloved director Steven Soderbergh reiterated that he plans to retire from filmmaking after he makes two more films. “When you reach the point where you’re like, ‘If I have to get into a van to do anther scout I’m just going to shoot myself,’ it’s time to let somebody else who’s still excited about getting in the van, get in the van,” Soderbergh said. “For the last three years, I’ve been turning down everything that comes my way, so you’re not going to have Steven Soderbergh to kick around anymore.” You will, however, have the opportunity to kick Soderbergh for his planned swan song.
