‘We pop bottles for him while he’s gone,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne Photo: ozonemag.com Executive Decisions: Birdman Last year, Birdman handed over a sachet with $1 million in cash to his son Lil Wayne for his birthday. But on Monday (September 27), Wayne’s 28th birthday, the #1 Stunna can’t celebrate with his loved one like he wants to. Wayne is still incarcerated on Rikers Island. “It ain’t kicked in,” Baby told MTV News. “My family, I like to do things for him for his birthday, you hear me? This the first time we not gonna get a chance to do that. But he is putting a new album out called I Am Not a Human Being. We pop bottles for him while he’s gone.” Wayne’s album landed online Monday; 10 songs are being sold digitally, and on October 12, a physical copy of the album will land at retailers. That version has 13 tracks. “When Wayne do what he do, he takes serious pride in his work,” Birdman told us in Miami last week for the kickoff of Drake’s Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour . “Nothing we do is half-stepping or half-cocked. I think it’s a great album. To me, he’s switching back. This album has no Vocoder; he’s back to raw rap. He’s just rapping how he’s feeling. He’s a genius, so the music is always gonna be great. He wanted to put I Am Not a Human Being out to show people he’s always in the building. Every album we put out, we’re going to do the most. We’re gonna go for it. We’re never gonna come half- cocked. You expect to see a lot, you gonna get a lot. It’s a great album.” Wayne has exactly 39 days left on his sentence until he comes home November 4. Birdman said he’ll most likely go see his family right away. “That’s my son. I love him. You always gonna miss a loved one. At the same time, we doing what we have to do,” the Cash Money CEO said. “Work hard. We all excited he’s about to come home. He’s happy. He wanna get out that place. That ain’t no place for him to be. Everybody is energized that he’s coming home. He walked the little walk. That was a left turn in our life. We wasn’t expecting nothing like that.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Videos Mixtape Daily: Lil Wayne and Birdman

Liverpool piled on the pressure – but even with six minutes of time added on Sunderland could not be denied a deserved point as Turner heroically cleared off the line from Daniel Agger. Barely a year on from the infamous #39;beachball goal#39;, Liverpool took controversial revenge on Sunderland in a 2-2 draw at Anfield. The Reds were beaten at the Stadium of Light last October by a Darren Bent strike which deflected in off a beachball thrown onto the pitch. But this time it was Liverpool#39

‘It’s one of the strongest things that he’s done,’ Jared Leto tells MTV News of ‘Hurricane.’ By James Montgomery 30 Seconds to Mars’ Jared Leto Photo: Sohyung Kang/ MTV News Last year, when 30 Seconds to Mars were still laboring on This Is War, more than a few eyebrows were raised when Kanye West posted a photo on his blog of him, Jared Leto and the Killers’ Brandon Flowers in the studio, where the trio had apparently just finished recording a “dope-ass song.” Later, Leto explained to MTV News that the “dope-ass song” was called “Hurricane,” and it featured West singing, minus the Auto-Tune he’d been dabbling with at the time (there was no mention of Flowers’ involvement). It sounded like a promising collaboration, but, sadly, fans never actually got to hear it: When This Is War hit stores, “Hurricane” was on there, but West’s work wasn’t. Leto explained that the band had to remove Kanye from the track at the last minute, due to some rather restrictive deadlines and a lot of back-and-forth between record labels, but he and his 30STM mates were so impressed with West’s contributions that they pledged that someday, somehow, the song would see the light of day. And, as it turns out, they kept their promise. On November 2, 30STM will release a deluxe edition of This Is War, featuring a DVD, a pair of live tracks recorded for the BBC (including a version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance”) and, at long last, the full, Kanye West-ified version of “Hurricane.” It’s been a long time in the making, but, as Leto told MTV News on Friday (September 24), the song is worth the wait. “Let’s put it this way: It’s a collision of two worlds, and I think it’s a completely unexpected surprise. He’s not only on the track, but he’s phenomenal on the track. … It’s one of the strongest things that he’s done, in my opinion,” he said. “His singing is incredible on it, and he’s done a lot of really wonderful work, and I think this only adds to his work as a whole. … Working with him was an incredible experience.” Leto said the new/old version of “Hurricane” (he prefers to call it “an alternative experience”) doesn’t stray all that far from the version that ended up on This Is War — they’re both decidedly bleak ruminations on death and lust and sacrifice — but it does feature West getting darker than he’s ever gotten before. “It was an interesting time. … I remember, he started here at the house, where we made the record, and then we finished in Hawaii,” Leto said. “It is a song that’s on the darker side of things. It’s the flipside of ‘Kings and Queens’ — which has a through line of optimism and hope, and a really strong spirit to it — this song explores a different territory, and his lyrics do the same.” Leto added that, if it were up to him and West, the song would’ve ended up on the original version of This Is War, but now that 30STM are gearing up to shoot a video for the track , it does present a rather interesting opportunity — perhaps a cameo by Kanye? “I think that would be an interesting element to add for sure,” Leto laughed. “We’ll just have to see.” Are you happy the Kanye/30STM collabo is finally seeing the light of day? Light Dreams and Nightmares stage show “very psychedelic,” MC says. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake performs in Miami on Monday Photo: Alexander Tamargo/ Getty Images MIAMI — Drake often cites Lil Wayne, Jay-Z and Kanye West as artists that inspired his career, from his sound to his stage presence. But for the Toronto star’s new tour, Light Dreams and Nightmares, which kicked off this week in Miami, he said he drew from outside of hip-hop. The unlikely source: One of Woodstock’s finest. “It’s a really stunning setup, heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix,” Drake told MTV News. “Not necessarily in any set that he designed, but more so his music and his vibe. It’s called the Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour — it’s very psychedelic. It’s very much based on day and night, like times of day, and I carry you through a full day in the show. It’s really cool, and I’m enjoying it. It’s great to have those elements.” Drake recently visited the Hendrix grave site, he told Rolling Stone . In addition to the electric guitarist, the Young Money MC also said he’s turned to concert DVDs, including one by Eminem, to help inspire him on his headlining trek. The result is an “OMG”-like light show that’s more involved than Drake’s first solo outing, the Away From Home Tour earlier this year. He said the stage effects create a level of excitement comparable to a surprise cameo. “It’s almost like when you’re at a show and you know [Jay-Z’s] about to come out or [Eminem’s] about to come out,” Drake explained. “It’s the same thing, like I know there’s fireworks about to go off in the air or this light show is going to go off and people will love it. It’s a great experience for me as a performer. I still work just as hard, but it’s almost as if I’m performing with another element. I’m growing.” Related Photos Drake Ignites Miami Related Artists Drake

Following her ‘Innocent’ VMA performance, singer is gearing up for the release of her third album, Speak Now. By James Dinh Taylor Swift performs at the 2010 VMAs Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Fresh off the heals of her much-talked-about performance at the 2010 Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift is about to take the rest of the year by storm after a relatively low-key summer. The 20-year-old is gearing up for the release of her new album, Speak Now . And if “Innocent,” the song she debuted at Sunday’s VMAs , is any indication of her upcoming material, Swift scorners should beware: She may be singing about you. “For me, I write everything that I live, so you’ve got to give yourself a little bit of time to live a lot of things so you can write about a lot of things. And my only option is to write about what I’ve been through and what I’ve lived,” Swift told fans of her new album. “Each song is a different confession to a different person, and I’m very excited for you to hear them.” The album may not be out until October 25, but the singer has already given fans a taste of her new music with the release of the first single, “Mine,” which many have said conquers a more mature lyrical vision. The songstress chose Roman White (who also directed “You Belong With Me” and “Fifteen”) to helm direction for the clip, which depicts Swift and her lover from their first interaction through their marriage. The song, which the singer says is about “finding someone who would make you believe in love and realize that it could work out,” had a bright start due to her ever-dependable fanbase. In early August, “Mine” made history as the singer became only the second female artist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart to debut multiple songs (“Mine” and “Today Was a Fairy Tale”) in the top five within a one-year time frame. But the songstress hasn’t just been working on her album. Swift also made time this past year for some other important priorities. During the days of immediate relief for the catastrophic Nashville floods , the country superstar helped her hometown by donating $500,000 and later performing as part of the Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery charity concert. “Being at home during the storm, I honestly could not believe what was happening to the city and the people I love so dearly,” Swift wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. “Nashville is my home and the reason why I get to do what I love. I have always been proud to be a Nashvillian, but especially now, seeing the love that runs through this city when there are people in crisis.” Despite her role in the movie “Valentine’s Day,” Swift told MTV News earlier this year that she’s staying clear of the acting gigs for now and remains focused on her music, saying, “I’m not making movies right now. I’m making music. That’s always been my number-one love.” One question many ponder is whether or not the teen sensation will be able to match the sales and critical reception of 2008’s Grammy-winning album Fearless. Some have even predicted that Swift may be the one to shake up the current state of the music industry with U.S. debut week sales of 1 million units. “It feels like if anybody can do it now, she could be the one,” Will Botwin, president/CEO of Red Light Management and ATO Records told Billboard . “She has the sales base and heat from the last few albums. And with all the amazing things she has going on, she is as likely as anybody to reach a million units, especially with the efforts of Big Machine and Universal behind her.” Until then, Swift will continue her media blitz for the release of Speak Now, which hits stores October 25. The songstress is reportedly set to hit the stage the same day of her album drop for a performance on the “Today” show and will also grace the November cover of Glamour magazine. Geert Wilders, personifies moral courage in an age when such courage is an extremely rare commodity the possession of which can threaten one's life. He is one of the few who truly deserve the label of hero, he is my personal hero, — and yet it must be said that all he has done to become heroic is something that we all can do, should do, and must do: he has spoken the truth. We live in so cheap and tawdry an age that all one must do to be a hero is speak the truth — and yet there are so few heroes. Geert Wilders is that hero. He has done this at immense personal cost, such that he now must be accompanied by armed guards at all times. One would think that the constant threats made against Geert Wilders would wake people up to the true nature and lethal character of the enemy we face, when they are so threatened by the telling of the truth that they're willing to commit murder in response. Yet even as Geert Wilders is defamed, vilified, and marginalized, he is being proven right by the events of every day — and the light of the truth he tells shines more brightly all the time. added by: crystalman

Using carbon nanotubes (hollow tubes of carbon atoms), MIT chemical engineers have found a way to concentrate solar energy 100 times more than a regular photovoltaic cell. Such nanotubes could form antennas that capture and focus light energy, potentially allowing much smaller and more powerful solar arrays. “Instead of having your whole roof be a photovoltaic cell, you could have little spots that were tiny photovoltaic cells, with antennas that would drive photons into them,” says Michael Strano, the Charles and Hilda Roddey Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering and leader of the research team. Strano and his students describe their new carbon nanotube antenna, or “solar funnel,” in the Sept. 12 online edition of the journal Nature Materials. Lead authors of the paper are postdoctoral associate Jae-Hee Han and graduate student Geraldine Paulus. Their new antennas might also be useful for any other application that requires light to be concentrated, such as night-vision goggles or telescopes. Solar panels generate electricity by converting photons (packets of light energy) into an electric current. Strano's nanotube antenna boosts the number of photons that can be captured and transforms the light into energy that can be funneled into a solar cell. The antenna consists of a fibrous rope about 10 micrometers (millionths of a meter) long and four micrometers thick, containing about 30 million carbon nanotubes. Strano's team built, for the first time, a fiber made of two layers of nanotubes with different electrical properties — specifically, different bandgaps. In any material, electrons can exist at different energy levels. When a photon strikes the surface, it excites an electron to a higher energy level, which is specific to the material. The interaction between the energized electron and the hole it leaves behind is called an exciton, and the difference in energy levels between the hole and the electron is known as the bandgap. The inner layer of the antenna contains nanotubes with a small bandgap, and nanotubes in the outer layer have a higher bandgap. That's important because excitons like to flow from high to low energy. In this case, that means the excitons in the outer layer flow to the inner layer, where they can exist in a lower (but still excited) energy state. Therefore, when light energy strikes the material, all of the excitons flow to the center of the fiber, where they are concentrated. Strano and his team have not yet built a photovoltaic device using the antenna, but they plan to. In such a device, the antenna would concentrate photons before the photovoltaic cell converts them to an electrical current. This could be done by constructing the antenna around a core of semiconducting material. …. While the cost of carbon nanotubes was once prohibitive, it has been coming down in recent years as chemical companies build up their manufacturing capacity. “At some point in the near future, carbon nanotubes will likely be sold for pennies per pound, as polymers are sold,” says Strano. “With this cost, the addition to a solar cell might be negligible compared to the fabrication and raw material cost of the cell itself, just as coatings and polymer components are small parts of the cost of a photovoltaic cell.” Strano's team is now working on ways to minimize the energy lost as excitons flow through the fiber, and on ways to generate more than one exciton per photon. The nanotube bundles described in the Nature Materials paper lose about 13 percent of the energy they absorb, but the team is working on new antennas that would lose only 1 percent. added by: JanforGore
