Drake Confirms November 5 Lil Wayne Homecoming Concert

Drizzy also pleads with Wiz Khalifa to join him on Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour during Ustream broadcast. By Mawuse Ziegbe Drake Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage Drake is doing it big right now. The Toronto MC’s debut album, Thank Me Later, is platinum, he’s about to headline his upcoming Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour and he’s just notched 1 million Twitter followers. With that type of success, there’s probably very little that is out of the lyricist’s reach. But Drake revealed that there is one thing he wants that he hasn’t been able to secure yet: snagging Wiz Khalifa as his tourmate. “I had a little bit of a fan moment, I tried to get this third cat on my tour,” Drizzy told more than 30,000 fans who logged on to check him out live on Ustream on Thursday (August 19). The broadcast came on the heels of the premiere of his “Miss Me” video with Lil Wayne. Apparently, Drake was keeping his plan to add another act to his tour on the low. “You know we was trying to get Wiz on the tour,” he said, simultaneously informing listeners and his team who were hanging out in the room and clearly didn’t know what he was referring to. The MC then addressed his fans once again: “Hopefully, the Light Dreams [and] Nightmares Tour, depending on what city we go to, it’ll be Clipse, Bun B and Wiz Khalifa . That’s what I’m hoping. I don’t know, maybe I spoke too soon.” Clipse were already confirmed to join the Young Money MC on the road, along with Houston O.G. Bun B, when the tour kicks off on September 20 in Miami. The chart-topping singer and rapper asked the “Hottest Breakthrough MC” directly about possibly joining the fall tour. “If Wiz by any chance watches this, you gotta make some calls for me and make this happen,” Drake said. “We got that young energy right now, we need to go out here and kill these people.” In addition to making his plea for a more Taylor Gang-friendly Light Dreams tour lineup, the MC said he really wants to work with producer 9th Wonder on the follow-up to Thank Me Later. “9th, can we start this next album please?” Drake asked. “Because I know you in the studio,” he added, urging the North Carolina artist to work on his sophomore effort, which Drizzy hopes to release by next year. The rapper also revealed that he initially wanted the ex-Little Brother beatsmith to contribute to Later, but wasn’t able to make it happen. “I’d greatly appreciate it if we could get some work done because I know last time we weren’t able to do that.” While his touring and production rosters are still up in the air, Drake said he could confirm to fans that one particular event is a definite: a homecoming concert for Lil Wayne. “November 5, the Welcome Home Weezy concert,” Drake said. Although he didn’t reveal the location, Drizzy assured fans they wouldn’t want to miss it. “That’s gonna be crazy,” Drizzy smiled. “I told you I got you. I would never just Ustream and talk about nothing.” Do you think Drake and Wiz Khalifa should tour together? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Drake Lil Wayne Wiz Khalifa

Kid Cudi’s ‘Man On The Moon 2’ Tops ‘Elle 25’

‘Hyercool’ Cleveland MC’s October LP is what magazine’s editors are most looking forward to by end of 2010. By Jayson Rodriguez Kid Cudi Photo: Jason Kempin/ WireImage Kid Cudi is a wanted man. The Cleveland rapper notched the top spot on “The Elle 25,” a list of things the staff of the fashion magazine is looking forward to before year’s end. In the piece, the mag’s editors rave about Cudi’s upcoming album, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, which reportedly will now see the light of day in October . “A sophomore effort that up-stages his first, with booming choruses (Cudi sings — sans Auto-Tune, at that!), raging electro beats, and a rock-rooted single, ‘Erase Me,’ which features that other hypercool skinny-jean-clad rapper, Kanye West,” writes the Elle staff. A new Cudi/Kanye collaboration also leaked online over the weekend, the first offering from a mixtape effort helmed by West. “Wylin’ Cause I’m Young,” is a brooding, bass-heavy number on which the two trade woozy rhymes: “Rage, ’cause I’m paid,” Cudi raps. “Take the grey and create another shade/ Awesome, no more bitches playing possum/ Pop and lock ’em and send them all home.” The track will be featured on ‘Ye and Perajok’s upcoming G.O.O.D. Ass Mixtape (named, of course, for the rapper’s own G.O.O.D. Music label). Another Cudi track, “Mr. Rager,” also hit the Web; a snippet of the song appeared earlier. It’s tentatively slated for a spot Man on the Moon II. “Mr. Rager, Mr. Rager, tell me where you’re going, tell me where you’re heading,” Cudi sings on the slow-thumping chorus. “I’m on my way to heaven/ Mr. Rager, can we tag along?/ Can we take this journey?” What are your expectations for Kid Cudi’s new album? 50 Cent’s Original ‘Black Magic’ Tracks Still Exist, Lloyd Banks Says

The MC tells ‘RapFix Live’ that a finished G-Unit mixtape is also in the vaults. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lloyd Banks on RapFix Live on August 13 Photo: Jonathan Goldner/ MTV News 50 Cent has backed away from the dance music sound he originally envisioned for his album Black Magic . Although Fif may not be putting a trance or deep-house spin on his gritty street records, Lloyd Banks says that the mercurial 50 doesn’t dispose of his music — even if it’s never released. “[50’s] mind runs all day. I go to sleep about 7 a.m. from being up writing all that time, and he’s getting up at that time, thinkin’. He might come to my room three times [a] day like, ‘I got this idea,’ or ‘I got that idea,’ ” Banks said while appearing on “RapFix Live” on Friday (August 13). “He changes up a lot. [The] material never goes anywhere though.” Banks said that even though 50 stays on the move, the G-Unit boss has been working constantly on his upcoming album. “I heard a bunch of material for that project,” Banks said. “All of it [was made while] traveling and being around. He made most of it in a … studio-truck type of thing.” The “Any Girl” MC even revealed that the Unit has recorded a mixtape that’s ready to hit the streets. “We got material,” Banks said. “We got a whole ‘nother mixtape done in the studio, chillin.’ ” Banks added that when the ‘tape will see the light of day is up to 50. “Whenever he feel like he want to pull that trigger,” Banks said. 50 has been staying busy with his Hollywood hustle and, of course, keeping up his time-honored tradition of beefing with fellow hip-hop stars like Fat Joe and Shyne. However, his last two albums, Curtis and Before I Self Destruct , didn’t move the same jaw-dropping numbers as his previous efforts and the core G-Unit team has been whittled down to just Banks, Tony Yayo and 50. Banks said that the Queens mogul plans to rule the rap game once again, and when asked about the recent criticism the G-Unit honcho has endured, he revealed that 50’s response is “I’ma get ’em.” “He’ll just come out of nowhere. I be having to tell him, ‘You ain’t gotta tell me n—a, I know. I already know what’s there ’cause I hear it,’ ” said Banks. “That fire … it ain’t gonna go nowhere.” Banks insisted that the whole Unit is ready to prove themselves on their upcoming projects. “[50’s] material’s gonna be crazy, man. All I can say is just wait and see,” Banks assured fans. “What I’m doing right now, [there’s] nothing more he wants to see than that. That just gets everybody hyped up again. [Tony] Yayo will call me like, ‘Yo, it’s on!’ That’s like the energy that’s around the unit right now.” What do you think 50 Cent’s Black Magic album sounds like? Amber Heard Flashes Her Panties in a Classic Upskirt of the Day

I wonder if the rest of the world is as bored of celebrities as I am. It’s like there is no excitement anymore…it’s all been done, it’s all been played out cuz the PR people figured out the simple tricks to go noticed, or what I like to call “Bikini, Panty, Nipple, Vagina, Sex Tape” in order of desperation, that now when a young starlet I want to fuck partially cuz shes young, partially cuz she’s alirght looking, partially cuz I saw Zombieland and it was either her or Little Miss Sunshine or some awkward Jewish guy to lust after, but mainly cuz she’s got a vagina and since being punished with my wife’s tainted, meaty, smelly, what looks like it may be roadkill and the definitely is the single most vile pussy I have ever encountered in my life, and I have encountered many, most low fucking grade, pretty much everything is a step the fuck up and stomp the fucking yard…. So here is Amber Heard in what has become the classic getting out of the car with white panties in a black dress so the cameras get it incidences that woulda been better done crotchless….or maybe even spread eagled on the beach somewhere, but like any PR person knows, you gotta make the shit look as casual as possible as to not look desperate…. Yes. I just analyzed a panty flash. I know. I should spend my energy staring at it. Just another example of me sucking at life…

The Strange Case of Charles ‘Paulson Put a Gun to All Their Heads’ Gasparino

Earlier today, NB’s Lachlan Markey covered Bill O’Reilly’s interview with the Fox Business Channel’s Charles Gasparino. In that interview, Gasparino confirmed what the New York Post reported in April of last year, namely that  “GE Execs Encouraged CNBC Staff to Go Easy on Obama.” The suits at GE, including Chairman Jeff Inmelt, had a clear motivation for encouraging their reporters to lighten up, namely that “General Electric at the time was hoping to profit handsomely from policies that would benefit a few companies, including GE, at the expense of the majority of the economy”– specifically cap and trade. But speaking of motivation: What about former CNBCer Gasparino’s? The easy answer would be that sometime in the past two years he has seen the light and realizes his past reporting at CNBC was lacking in fairness and balance. Despite his move to Fox, there’s reason to doubt that. In October 2008, Gasparino and CNBC’s Dylan Ratigan smirked their way through their report on what has turned out in retrospect to have been the event that marked the official beginning of Washington’s financial tyranny (“arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority”) over the banking system. That tyranny has largely been codified into law in the recently passed and laughably misnamed “Financial Services Reform” legislation. On October 14, 2008, less than two weeks after Congress passed legislation creating the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) with the supposed intent of using the money to buy up specific “toxic assets,” mostly subprime mortgages, Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson radically shifted course, forcing the nation’s largest banks to take TARP money directly (i.e., to accept government “investment”) regardless of whether they wanted it or believe they needed it. What follows is a transcript containing most of the early portion of what Ratigan and Gasparino reported before going to other talking heads for their comments (video is still here at CNBC, and must be seen to fully appreciate the conversation’s smarmy arrogance, especially with Gasparino; bolds are mine): Ratigan: Well we all know that obscene amounts of risk (were) taken inside of the banking system, leaving some banks crippled, some banks frozen, and other banks with huge opportunities. Uh, many of the banks didn’t want to be tainted with the government bailout funds because they didn’t want to be mistaken for a fool when they actually felt that they were the smart one that didn’t do it. Well Hank Paulson said “The heck with that.” He stuck all of them with some of the bailout money. And he said “Listen, we’re going to reset the clock here and move forward.” Charlie, how are the banks that felt they basically didn’t commit the crime, as it were, of excess or reckless risk, uh, respond to the fact that even they will be stuck with this capital? Charlie Gasparino: Well y’know they were all kind of stupid to some extent ….. ….. the Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson put all these egos in the room, and basically put guns to their heads, forcing them to take the money to bolster the banking system. Some of the firms say they didn’t want the cash, but it’s pretty clear that all of them did need to take the cash, given the continued upheaval in the banking system that crushed shares last week of Morgan as well as Goldman Sachs and just about everybody else. So this is essentially, uh, Dylan, a case where, y’know, you can deny you have any problems. Even the best-capitalized banks have problems. They own this stuff. And Paulson at one point said, “Listen, if you don’t want it, it doesn’t matter, gun to your head, you gotta take it.” Ratigan: Yeah, whether you think you’re sick or not, you’re taking the medicine. Gasparino: Because you’re sick anyway. Ratigan: Exactly. Part of my reax at the time: It was very unsettling to see the two CNBC reporters basically smile and smirk their way through the opening segment of the clip, with what I saw as an air of insufferable “we know it all” arrogance. … This “bailout” was originally advertised as being targeted towards troubled loan situations, principally mortgages. Instead, Paulson, Bernanke, and Bush have turned it into a de facto, no good deed goes unpunished (i.e., responsible lending) tool for partial nationalization. How many Congresspersons, or presidential candidates, thought this was what they were voting for, or that this is what the people wanted? Commenter dscott’s reax at the time : Something is up because this is not how a government official acts in a Democracy. “Something” was up all right. We should never forget that the congressmen and senators from both parties, including each party’s presidential candidate, voted TARP into existence despite the intense opposition of the vast majority of Americans, thereby allowing a loophole-laden law to open the door to what has since transpired. Then, less than two weeks later, virtually everyone just stood around while tyranny took its first sweeping steps. Charles Gasparino thought it was sort of funny at the time, as if the financial system’s private players were getting a richly deserved comeuppance. That attitude is consistent with the theme of his most recent book, and of the one that will be released shortly. In November of last year, Gasparino’s ” The Sellout ” was subtitled “How Three Decades of Wall Street Greed and Government Mismanagement Destroyed the Global Financial System.” Given what we have learned about the frauds by design known as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the two years since they went into government conservatorship, it’s more than a little odd that he would mention Wall Street first. Gasparino is releasing a book in October whose title is, “Bought and Paid For: The Unholy Alliance Between Barack Obama and Wall Street.” The book’s tagline: “A top reporter exposes the deep ties between the Obama administration and the big banks that are bankrupting our country.” I’m sure there’s no shortage of material. But fundamentally, Charles, how could it be that Wall Street perpetrated this mess with just a bit of cooperation from and co-opting of Uncle Sam, when it’s Fan and Fred who led the way in compromising prudent lending standards, and it’s Fan and Fred who lied about the underlying quality of their securitized mortgages for about 15 years to the tune of hundreds of billions and perhaps trillions of dollars, doing damage that Wall Street couldn’t hope to do even at its most malicious? Someone –maybe Bill O’Reilly — should ask Gasparino if he still thinks Wall Street is the primary culprit. He clearly did at crunch time in October 2008. CNN’s Moos: Booing Scouts Weren’t ‘Courteous and Kind’ to President Obama

On Tuesday’s American Morning, CNN’s Jeanne Moos picked up on the viral video of Boy Scouts booing President Obama’s taped message to the recent National Jamboree, but got in a light jab at the youth for their behavior: “Booing would seem to go against some of the 12 tenets of Boy Scout Law. A Boy Scout is ‘trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind’- wait a minute, ‘courteous and kind’? ” The correspondent, known for her light reports for the network, concluded the 6 am Eastern hour with “unique take” on the video, as anchor John Roberts put it. Moos noted that “45,000 Scouts were celebrating the 100th anniversary of Scouting” in the United States at the Jamboree, which was held at the U.S. Army’s Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, and that “two months earlier, the White House informed the Scouts that the President had prior commitments.” Moos continued that the “Scouts…booed the President’s message, and this 23-second video made its way on to conservative websites, which slammed the President for forsaking the Boy Scouts to appear on ‘The View.'” She later gave the Obama administration’s explanation for the apparent snub: “The White House says ‘The View’ had nothing to do with it- that the President was already scheduled to be on the road that day.” The CNN correspondent’s jab against the booing culprits, using two of the twelve points of the Scout Law , came near the end of the report. She added that “a statement from the Boy Scouts said the organization does not condone booing.” Moos concluded, “If the President’s watching this, the jamboree returns in four years.” In the past, Moos has hit subjects from both sides of the political spectrum. On the April 30, 2008 edition of American Morning, the correspondent devoted all but six seconds of a two-and-a-half minute report to “granny” supporters of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns. Later that year, during the Democratic National Convention, she highlighted the dancing antics of CNN’s liberal pundits . Just over a year ago, on August 4, 2009, Moos devoted an entire segment to the viral Obama as the Joker image . That December, the correspondent also exposed left-wing rage being directed at independent Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman. Most recently, during a June 22, 2010 report, she refreshingly spotlighted how the President frequently golfed during the oil leak disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The full transcript of Jeanne Moos’s report from Tuesday’s American Morning: KIRAN CHETRY: Meantime, the Boy Scouts are voicing their displeasure with President Obama, claiming that he passed up an invitation to join their big jamboree to appear on ‘The View.’ JOHN ROBERTS: No one, though, was prepared for just how emotionally the Scouts would react, and here’s Jeanne Moos with her unique take on it. JEANNE MOOS (voice-over): It’s bad enough getting booed, whether you’re busted for dog fighting (crowd boos football player Michael Vick), or competing for Miss Universe- UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE ANNOUNCER: USA. (crowd boos) MOOS: But imagine getting booed by the Boy Scouts. (scouts boo as taped message of President Obama plays, from YouTube.com video) And the person they’re booing is the president of the United States. Actually, what they were booing was President Obama sending a taped message, rather than coming in person to the recent Boy Scout jamboree. UNIDENTIFIED MALE 1: Thanks for showing up! MOOS: Some 45,000 Scouts were celebrating the 100th anniversary of Scouting. Two months earlier, the White House informed the Scouts that the President had prior commitments. UNIDENTIFIED MALE 2: It doesn’t really bother me. UNIDENTIFIED MALE 3: Disappointed but, I mean- busy man. What can you do? MOOS: But just a few days after those interviews- PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Scouts just like you- MOOS: Scouts just like these booed the President’s message, and this 23-second video made its way on to conservative websites, which slammed the President for forsaking the Boy Scouts to appear on ‘The View.’ OBAMA (from ABC’s ‘The View’): Thank you! MOOS: Some figured the booing tape was somehow doctored. (reading from website) ‘I don’t believe for one second that these 23 seconds of film is accurate.’ MOOS (on-camera): Believe it- some Boy Scouts booed.  (holding three fingers up in Scout Sign) Trust me, ‘Scout’s honor.’ MOOS (voice-over): The Boy Scout who shot it wouldn’t do an interview, but he told us that though he didn’t boo, there was a moderate amount of booing going on around him, mostly from Scouts annoyed, not because of the President’s policies, but because he didn’t show up as six previous presidents have. The White House says ‘The View’ had nothing to do with it- that the President was already scheduled to be on the road that day. JON STEWART (from Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show”): Look on the bright side. Boy Scouts will finally get their merit badge for crushing disappointment. Look- MOOS (on-camera): Now, on the face of it, booing would seem to go against some of the 12 tenets of Boy Scout Law. MOOS (voice-over): A Boy Scout is ‘trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind’- wait a minute, ‘courteous and kind’? (scouts booing, from YouTube.com video) A statement from the Boy Scouts said the organization does not condone booing. UNIDENTIFIED MALE 4: I hope you’re watching this! MOOS: If the President’s watching this, the jamboree returns in four years. OBAMA (from 2009 Inauguration): I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear- MOOS: That if re-elected, I will try to make it to the next jamboree. OBAMA: So help me God. MOOS: Jeanne Moos, CNN, New York.   ROBERTS: Some of the Boy Scouts not too happy about getting a taped message.

New Solar Energy Conversion Process Could Revamp Solar Power Production

A new process that simultaneously combines the light and heat of solar radiation to generate electricity could offer more than double the efficiency of existing solar cell technology, say the Stanford engineers who discovered it and proved that it works. The process, called “photon enhanced thermionic emission,” or PETE, could reduce the costs of solar energy production enough for it to compete with oil as an energy source. Stanford engineers have figured out how to simultaneously use the light and heat of the sun to generate electricity in a way that could make solar power production more than twice as efficient as existing methods and potentially cheap enough to compete with oil. Unlike photovoltaic technology currently used in solar panels – which becomes less efficient as the temperature rises – the new process excels at higher temperatures. Called “photon enhanced thermionic emission,” or PETE, the process promises to surpass the efficiency of existing photovoltaic and thermal conversion technologies. “This is really a conceptual breakthrough, a new energy conversion process, not just a new material or a slightly different tweak,” said Nick Melosh, an assistant professor of materials science and engineering, who led the research group. “It is actually something fundamentally different about how you can harvest energy.” And the materials needed to build a device to make the process work are cheap and easily available, meaning the power that comes from it will be affordable. Melosh is senior author of a paper describing the tests the researchers conducted. It was published online Aug. 1 in Nature Materials. “Just demonstrating that the process worked was a big deal,” Melosh said. “And we showed this physical mechanism does exist; it works as advertised.” Most photovoltaic cells, such as those used in rooftop solar panels, use the semiconducting material silicon to convert the energy from photons of light to electricity. But the cells can only use a portion of the light spectrum, with the rest just generating heat. This heat from unused sunlight and inefficiencies in the cells themselves account for a loss of more than 50 percent of the initial solar energy reaching the cell. If this wasted heat energy could somehow be harvested, solar cells could be much more efficient. The problem has been that high temperatures are necessary to power heat-based conversion systems, yet solar cell efficiency rapidly decreases at higher temperatures. Until now, no one had come up with a way to wed thermal and solar cell conversion technologies. Melosh's group figured out that by coating a piece of semiconducting material with a thin layer of the metal cesium, it made the material able to use both light and heat to generate electricity. “What we've demonstrated is a new physical process that is not based on standard photovoltaic mechanisms, but can give you a photovoltaic-like response at very high temperatures,” Melosh said. “In fact, it works better at higher temperatures. The higher the better.” While most silicon solar cells have been rendered inert by the time the temperature reaches 100 degrees Celsius, the PETE device doesn't hit peak efficiency until it is well over 200 C. Because PETE performs best at temperatures well in excess of what a rooftop solar panel would reach, the devices will work best in solar concentrators such as parabolic dishes, which can get as hot as 800 C. Dishes are used in large solar farms similar to those proposed for the Mojave Desert in Southern California and usually include a thermal conversion mechanism as part of their design, which offers another opportunity for PETE to help generate electricity as well as minimize costs by meshing with existing technology. “The light would come in and hit our PETE device first, where we would take advantage of both the incident light and the heat that it produces, and then we would dump the waste heat to their existing thermal conversion systems,” Melosh said. “So the PETE process has two really big benefits in energy production over normal technology.” Photovoltaic systems never get hot enough for their waste heat to be useful in thermal energy conversion, but the high temperatures at which PETE performs are perfect for generating usable high-temperature waste heat. Melosh calculates the PETE process can get to 50 percent efficiency or more under solar concentration, but if combined with a thermal conversion cycle, could reach 55 or even 60 percent – almost triple the efficiency of existing systems. The team would like to design the devices so they could be easily bolted on to existing systems, thereby making conversion relatively inexpensive. added by: JanforGore
