Manny Pacquiao Says Gay People Are Worse Than Animals Boxing star Manny Pacquiao apologized today for stating that gay relationships were as “worse than animals” but stands by his opposition to same-sex marriage according to ESPN reports: Fellow Filipino celebrities were among those criticizing his remarks, made when a TV network asked candidates about their views on same-sex marriage. “It’s just common sense,” Pacquiao said in the remarks posted online by the TV5 network. “Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations?” Animals, he said, were better because they recognize gender differences, and “if you have male-to-male or female-to-female [relationships], then people are worse than animals.” Among those who reacted strongly was popular gay comedian and TV host Jose Marie Viceral, known as Vice Ganda. Vice Ganda tweeted that lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders are humans, not animals. He said that they’re not saints but that they’ll pray for the boxer, who is widely acclaimed for bringing his country honors. Vice Ganda posted a picture of Pope Francis, suggesting that even the beloved leader of the Roman Catholic church does not condemn gays. A pro-life, family-values congressman, Scott DesJarlais of Tennessee is also a doctor. Who had an affair with a patient and pressured her to get an abortion. According to the Huffington Post, DesJarlais was trying to save his marriage at the time, according to his remarks on the call, made in September of 2000. According to independent sources familiar with the call, he made the tape himself. DesJarlais, who was provided a copy of the transcript by HuffPost, did not deny its contents, but in a statement through his campaign, railed against the opposition. “Desperate personal attacks do not solve our nation’s problems, yet it appears my opponents are choosing to once again engage in the same gutter politics,” he said. DesJarlais’ divorce from Susan DesJarlais, which was finalized in 2001, included allegations that he held a gun in his own mouth for hours in one instance. He also “dry fired” a gun outside his wife’s bedroom in another, allegedly. DesJarlais’ campaign vigorously denied those charges in his 2010 race against Democratic Rep. Lincoln Davis, saying they were hauled out of history for political purpose. But the new transcript paints a more damning picture of him as a philanderer willing to push one of his lovers – whom he met as a patient with a foot problem – to terminate a pregnancy. Even when he suspected he was the father. “You told me you’d have an abortion, and now we’re getting too far along without one,” DesJarlais tells the woman at one point in the call while negotiating with her. They then discuss whether he will accompany her to a procedure to end the sort of life the congressman now describes as “sacred.” “You told me you would have time to go with me and everything,” the woman complains. “I said, if I could, I would, didn’t I? And I will try,” DesJarlais says. “If I can [find] time, you’re saying you still will?” “Yeah,” the woman answers. The two bicker over when they can meet to hash out a solution, and they make clear the nature of their relationship when DesJarlais says delaying a resolution isn’t fair to his wife. NAACP Protests Proposed Gun Offender Registry Law In Wealthy African-American County A law that would require members of the community convicted of gun-related crimes to check in with police every six months is in the works in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The NAACP chapter of Prince George’s County, which is the wealthiest African-American majority county in the nation, says they are not havin it. The Prince George’s County’s chapter of the NAACP is hoping to stop County Executive Rushern L. Baker III (D) from signing a countywide gun offender registry program into law, claiming the law is unconstitutional. The registry program, passed June 5 by the County Council with a 9-0 vote, would establish a police-kept registry for those convicted of gun-related crimes who would have to check in with police every six months for three years in addition to providing information such as phone numbers and where they live and work. Legislation for the registry was introduced by County Councilwoman Karen R. Toles (D-Dist. 7) of Suitland and co-sponsored by the entire council to serve as “a deterrent to gun offenders” to reduce the amount of gun-related crimes and homicides in the county, Toles has said. Members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People met June 21 to discuss their opposition, saying the bill violates the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits governments from depriving a person’s life, liberty and property without first taking certain steps to ensure fairness. In addition, they are citing flaws in similar legislation in Baltimore for a gun-offender registry that is currently up for potential appeal after a city circuit court judge said April 6 that the legislation was unconstitutional and too vague.
