Justin Bieber Passes Michael Jackson’s Box-Office Record

‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ has outgrossed MJ’s ‘This Is It’ in U.S. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber in “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” Photo: Paramount Pictures Michael Jackson may have dubbed himself the King of Pop, but the late icon didn’t hold the box-office crown for long. Less than a year after the posthumous MJ documentary “This Is It” became the most successful concert-themed film in U.S. history, Justin Bieber is poised to snatch the mantle. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” has earned $72.2 million in domestic box office so far, passing Jackson’s $72.1 million haul. And while Bieber has racked up those impressive numbers in just six weeks, he’s got a long way to go before he laps the global receipts for the MJ doc. “This Is It” has grossed $189.1 million overseas for a global total of $261.2 million. Music films don’t typically play well overseas, and THR noted that “Never Say Never” has grossed a more modest $10.8 million overseas so far, with Paramount executives predicting that it could top out around $20 million internationally. The impressive U.S. numbers were likely goosed by the re-release of the film recently with 40 additional minutes of bonus footage from director Jon M. Chu . Bieber still has a little way to go to climb the list of the top-grossing documentaries of all time. “Never Say Never” is currently stalled out at the #3 position, around $5 million behind “March of the Penguins,” according to Box Office Mojo , and well short of the all-time record held by Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which has taken in $119.1 million to date. Bieber set off a classic MJ-style fan frenzy a few weeks ago when he visited Liverpool, England, for his world tour. And just a week later, he posed with his new wax figure at London’s Madame Tussauds , checking off another item on the list of milestones to an MJ-like career. ‘American Idol’ Is TV’s Top-Earning Series

Show raked in $7.1 million per half hour in 2010, while ‘Two and a Half Men’ comes in at #2. By Gil Kaufman Ryan Seacrest, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson Photo: Tony Duran/ FOX Last year was a rocky one for “American Idol.” From the turmoil on the judging panel with uncomfortable short-timer Ellen DeGeneres (and the firing of Kara DioGuardi) to lackluster winner Lee DeWyze and the eventual departure of lead judge Simon Cowell, you’d think “Idol” would have suffered as a result. But, according to Forbes magazine, not only did “Idol” retain its ratings crown in 2010, it was also the biggest moneymaker on TV. The show brought in an astounding $7.11 million per half hour for the Fox network according to estimates tallied by the financial magazine. As big a number as that is, the figure was actually a 12 percent drop from 2009, but still enough to top the Forbes list of TV cash cows. Despite fears that the nearly wholesale changes on the judging panel and the debut of untested TV stars Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez at the desk might throw the ratings for “Idol” off this season, so far the show is holding steady. After initial ratings slumps in the audition episodes, the show is now down just 1 percent for the season and appears to be rebounding to its former heights. “Idol” was far-and-away the list leader on the Forbes tally, followed by the troubled “Two and a Half Men,” whose 2010 shows earned $2.89 million per half hour in what will now be remembered as former star Charlie Sheen’s final full season. Forbes predicted it will be hard to keep those numbers up without polarizing star Sheen, whom producers are reportedly looking to replace. The rest of the list includes: “Desperate Housewives” ($2.74 million), “Grey’s Anatomy” ($2.67 million), “Dancing With the Stars” ($2.67 million), “Lost” ($2.60 million), “The Big Bang Theory” ($2.50 million), “24” ($2.45 million), “Private Practice” ($2.32 million) and “Mike & Molly” ($2.11 million). Artist LeCrae Is Bringing More Hip Hop And R&B To Gospel Music

Continued here:

Upon first listen you wouldn’t know that LeCrae is a Gospel artist. His current single “Go Hard” sounds like a cross between Kurt Franklin and Young Jeezy. His songs are catchy, the beats are banging and you sure wouldn’t catch your traditional Gospel artist reciting lines like: “Lord kill me If I don’t preach the gospel I’m still in my 20′s- but I’ll die if I got to Already dead- so forget my flesh I done been crossed over see the full court press I’m a full court mess if the Lord don’t use me” LeCrae granted Elev8.com an unprecedented interview about his album, vision and Christ. OW: How has this project differed from   previous projects? LeCrae: “Rehab is far more musical and explores issues that my other projects didn’t touch on manhood, marriage, and addiction. I think Rehab is a very transitional project it displays more of me as an artist/writer/producer and not just a rapper.” OW. In the last year, what have you learned? LeCrae: “I have learned that authenticity resonates with people. The industry can  be very misleading and is built to make people believe what they see. But people aren’t dumb they can see through that and I think real music and real people resonate.” Recently released singles “Overdose”, “Battle Song” featuring Suzy Rock, and “Blow Your High” featuring Canon have all garnered massive radio exposure in both the Christian and Hip Hop Circles. The album peaked at No. 2 on iTunes and No. 1 on the Hip-Hop chart through most of its debut week. The Rehab album is currently at # 5 is in its 23 rd week on the Billboard Charts.
