Sad news … A.J. Cooper Death A former host of BET’s Teen Summit turned budding politician has died. A.J. Cooper who was just 34-years-old, passed away suddenly Wednesday from a heart attack. The Washington Post reports: The District lost an actual native son, Wednesday, one who truly wanted to do right by his hometown. A.J. Cooper was a likable rascal turned community activist. He died of a heart attack, a cruel irony for a man who gave so much of his heart to this city. He was 34. I’d known A.J. for years, ever since we were elementary school kids on the playground. He was sort of a wild kid, but he had charisma. He ended up leaving my school, but we played in the same Little League when we got older. After that, he went on to host BET’s Teen Summit, a show that made him somewhat of a national star, but more importantly solidified his interests in the youth of America. Two years ago, when he ran for city council for the first time, it quickly became obvious that he was a young voice that the Wilson Building could use. He believed in working to curb teen pregnancy because it so often derailed the educational opportunities that kids had available to them. Most recently, his work in urban farming initiatives occupied his time. He was a young man that cared about his city, plain and simple. Wow, condolences to the Cooper family! He was so young and so dedicated to D.C.

If Mac gets 50,000 pre-orders, Blue Slide Park rapper will donate $50,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation. By Rob Markman Mac Miller Photo: MTV News Mac Miller sure is impatient. Yes, he has already secured a November 8 release date for his independent debut album, Blue Slide Park, but that isn’t enough for the Pittsburgh MC. With the album now available for pre-order on iTunes and other digital outlets, the “Donald Trump” rapper has devised a three-tier plan that will give his fans the ability to push up the 16-track LP’s release. “I want to get my fans my album. We have a date, November 8. Blue Slide Park, it’s coming out, but I would love it if we could get it out earlier,” Mac told MTV News. “So what we’re doing is, we’re gonna go hard with the pre-orders.” The expectations are high, but if Mac can get 25,000 pre-orders of BSP he will release the album’s title track to hold fans over. If Miller surpasses 50,000 pre-orders before the album drops, he will donate $50,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Reaching 25,000 or 50,000 won’t be easy, but should Blue Slide Park hit 100,000 pre-orders before November 8, Mac promises to release the album immediately. If they got 100,000 by the end of this interview, the album would come out right after, Miller promised. “I just want people to get the album as quickly as possible,” he said. “So if they go hard and go crazy — ’cause you never know what my fans will do, they’re so unpredictable — if they go hard and get 100,000 and make history, I’m just gonna give them the album right away because that’s what they deserve and that’s what they would deserve anyway.” Miller is currently on tour in support of the album, which he has dedicated to his favorite childhood park, known most for its blue slides. “Blue Slide Park is a park in Pittsburgh we grew up at,” Miller told MTV News about the album title’s significance. “Being 2, going down slides and then being 6, playing Little League and hanging out there, then being older, coming back there to drink and smoke and party, running from the cops. Hip-hop’s next rising star has an answer for the uninitiated: “He’s a 19-year old rap phenomenon from Pittsburgh who enjoys life and enjoys making music every day and working very hard for everything he gets.” Well, all that hard work has paid off. Miller has been named one of MTV Jams’ 2011 Fab 5 artists. Conceived in 2005 on MTV Jams, the Fab 5 is a collection of the most outstanding new hip-hop artists of the year who have made a visible impact on the road to releasing their debut albums. Fab 5 alumni include Juelz Santana, Tony Yayo, Paul Wall, Young Jeezy, Kid Cudi and Drake. This year, MTV Jams, MTV News and Sucker Free will bring you 2011’s hottest new hip-hop upstarts, including Big Sean, Future, Meek Mill, Big K.R.I.T. and now Mac Miller. The Pittsburgh MC toiled in the local underground, releasing mixtapes under the name Easy Mac until he signed with Rostrum Records and broke out with his 2010 tape K.I.D.S. After a quarter century on the air and amid some pretty significant personal controversy of late, Larry King will hang up the suspenders this fall. The talk show host, 77, announced on Tuesday he will end his run on Larry King Live in the fall but will remain with CNN for occasional specials. The decision to retire was made to “give me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids’ little league games,” the venerable newsman said. Larry and wife Shawn Southwick have been embroiled in marital problems this year, both filing for divorce at one point before calling it off. King was accused of an affair with Shannon Engemann , Shawn’s sister, while she has been tied to their kids’ little league coach of all people. Hopefully Larry and Shawn can work things out. In May, his wife, who has a history of painkiller addiction, was found with empty pill bottles strewn on her bed in a possible suicide attempt . They have been married over a decade and have two young sons. “Larry King defined the art of the TV interview,” CNN said. “His candor, curiosity and compassion are legendary, and his ability to interview people from all walks of life – world leaders, celebrities and everyday people – has made him an icon.” “With this chapter closing I’m looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring,” King added.
