Lady Gaga Fans Launch Twitter War With Black Keys Drummer

Patrick Carney earned the wrath of Little Monsters by comparing Gaga to Madonna on Twitter. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney is a man who seems to grasp the power and purpose of Twitter — namely, using it to mess with Bravo TV star Bethenny Frankel and profess his love for condiments . So it was probably a bit of a shock when, after writing a seemingly innocuous tweet about Lady Gaga, he bore the full brunt of her (very angry) Little Monsters. It all started last month, when Carney sized up Gaga’s “Saturday Night Live” performance by writing , simply, “Madonna is killing it!” The comment went largely unnoticed by Gaga’s fans, and Carney returned to important things like tweeting with Ke$ha about shrimp. But then, he dared to compare Gaga to Madonna once again, and, to borrow a phrase from Calvin Tran , “Oh, here go hell come.” Gaga’s fans picked up on the tweet, and soon began inundating Carney’s Twitter account with a steady torrent of vicious hate that quickly escalated to a full-on downpour of acrimony. So, he did what any self-respecting Twitter-head would do: retweeted the best of the worst. In fact, all day Monday (June 6), Carney’s Twitter account was nothing but a stream of profanity-laced, poorly-punctuated vitriol from Little Monsters, who called him “an ugly ass bitch,” compared him to “the kid in the wheelchair on ‘Glee’ ” and even threatened him with bodily harm. For his part, Carney helped stoke the flames by pointing out that Gaga’s anti-bullying message didn’t really seem to be translating to her fans. “Hey, little monsters! Everyone knows lady gaga sounds nothing at all like Madonna. I was joking! I am so depressed,” he wrote , adding that he was heading to Red Lobster. The tweets don’t seem to be losing steam too quickly. As of Tuesday morning (June 7), Carney was still RT’ing some of the zestier messages he’d received from Gaga fans, and he summed up the whole experience by complaining that @Bethenny had replied to one of his brother’s tweets, but not his (link), proving that, much like life, the Twitter-verse is, in fact, cyclical. ‘American Idol’ Exec Producer Nigel Lythgoe Responds To ‘Morons’

‘The ones that believe we manipulate everything, it drives me crazy sometimes,’ he says of vocal fans. By Sabrina Rojas Weiss Nigel Lythgoe Photo: MTV News As executive producer of “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” as well as a judge on the latter — and maybe even back in the day as the choreographer of “The Apple” — Nigel Lythgoe is well versed at taking jabs from angry fans. But that doesn’t mean he’s not tempted to strike back now and again at the viewers who are convinced the producers of the shows arrange things so that their favorites will win. “Thanks for all the personal abuse from the usual morons out there in Twitterland,” he tweeted after last Wednesday night’s “Idol.” “I personally feel Haley is the most improved contestant.” MTV News “Idol” expert Jim Cantiello was sure Nigel was partly responding to his joking tweet , “@dizzyfeet Whew! Looks like you have a lot of Haley votes to delete tonight! ;)” So, when Lythgoe stopped by the newsroom on Monday with “So You Think You Can Dance” judge Mary Murphy, we had to ask about his online interactions with fans. “The ones that believe we manipulate everything, it drives me crazy sometimes,” he said of the Twitter comments he receives. ” ‘How dare you let James go from “Idol”!’ ‘We know that you hate Haley!’ This is just crazy. I always end up having to go, ‘You morons out there …’ or something like that, and realize that I’m arguing with 7- or 8-year-olds from Wisconsin. “It’s annoying, because ‘Idol’ of all shows, really goes with what the public demands, whether we like it or not,” he insisted. “And of course we didn’t like to see Casey going. We didn’t like to see Pia going. We didn’t like to see James going. But someone has to go, by the very nature of it being a competition.” That said, the producers do control certain aspects of the show, such as performance order. But while some fans (Cantiello included) complained about the way the top four were shuffled around for their second performances last week, Lythgoe explained that there was a very logical reason behind having James Durbin sing both first and last. “James opened the week before,” he said. “He opened it again [last] week, which is not the great spot to be in, and then we changed him to the last [for the second song], so it was fairer. So when Standards and Practices said to us, ‘Why is he opening twice?’ Well he’s opening twice because there are four songs in that first genre, he’s the uptempo one. You don’t want to open the show with a ballad, so you start with an uptempo song. And he’s last because he’s due to be last, because he’s opened the show for two weeks now. “That was all it was,” he continued. “God forbid logic comes into a megalomaniac fan that just wants their #1 to win and everything else is: The world’s against them!” Don’t miss “Idol Party Live” every Thursday at noon on MTV.com for analysis, celebrity guests and even some karaoke — get in the conversation by tweeting with the hashtag #idolparty! Lady Gaga Premieres New Track In ‘GagaVille’

MTV News gets the lowdown on the partnership between the star and ‘FarmVille’ makers Zynga. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage For her Little Monster gamers, Lady Gaga has hooked up with the makers of “FarmVille” to create “GagaVille,” a campy, cotton-candy-colored, Gaga-fied version of the popular online game. Fans can make their way through “GagaVille” starting on Tuesday (May 17), where they can unlock and stream a new unreleased Born This Way track every day through Thursday. Then, beginning this Friday through the album release day (May 23), players can start to unlock portions of tracks and remixes of songs off the album. “Everything we’ve created has been in collaboration,” Gaga said in a statement about the game. “From giving players a listen to unreleased songs as a reward for game play within ‘FarmVille’ to creating daily experiences in ‘Words With Friends’ that embody the album’s messages and songs. We’ve had a lot of fun developing this program as a unique celebration of the album.” The first new song Gaga is sharing in “GagaVille” is “Marry the Night,” a dance track about the revelry that happens when the sun goes down. ” ‘FarmVille’ players visiting ‘GagaVille’ will see a farm like none other,” Raquel DiSabatino, director of entertainment and media at Zynga, told MTV News. “From planting crystals, to sheep riding motorcycles and special Lady Gaga unicorns, this farm has definitely been ‘Gagafied.’

Lady Gaga HBO Special Gives Fans A Taste Of ‘Marry The Night’

Along with unreleased Born This Way track, Gaga gives Little Monsters an inside look at the Monster Ball. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Marco Prosch/ Getty Images Lady Gaga’s first-ever HBO special is nearly 120 minutes of Gaga onstage and giving fans unprecedented behind-the-scenes access. A mixture of concert footage in color and backstage shots in black-and-white, HBO’s “Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden” is a love letter to her hometown, fans and her roots and also puts viewers in the front row at one of her shows. The special opens with Gaga greeting her friends on the Lower East Side in Manhattan and buying a coffee at a local deli decked out in a biker jacket, bodysuit and heels. She struts through the neighborhood and into an SUV. She pulls up to Madison Square Garden. From the car, she greets her fans. “You know how many times I came to this arena? And now they’re opening up these gates for us,” she marvels to her team. Now viewers are backstage as she puts on makeup and confesses , “I start to think about all the people that have tried to stop me, and I get this super-intense fury. … I just sometimes feel like a loser still.” The biggest reveal in the special is watching Gaga backstage singing a few lines of her still-unreleased Born This Way track “Marry the Night.” It happens fast, but Little Monsters are sure to eat up footage of her singing the track to herself. “I’m gonna marry the night/ I won’t give up on my life/ I’m a warrior queen/ Live passionately tonight,” she sings to herself, waiting for her show to begin. This moment marries her pre-show life with her stage life. And just like that, fans are now at the Monster Ball at Madison Square Garden . The concert footage was shot earlier this year during two nights at MSG. The Monster Ball itself has been edited with a constant stream of Gaga-isms about her fans, adversity and individuality, along with quick frenzied backstage shots, song changes (old and new) and, of course, costume changes (many of which are documented in those backstage moments). It gives anyone who hasn’t been there in person a good idea of what the show is all about. The set list includes: “Just Dance,” “You and I,” “Born This Way,” “Alejandro” and many other Gaga favorites that are highlighted by Gaga’s ferocious presence and over-the-top staging. After the concert wraps, fans are once again backstage as Gaga, her team and her family celebrate the show. In a particularly touching moment, she hugs her dad. Gaga is seen leaving MSG in a feathered jacket as the special ends. During the credits, fans are treated to one last treat: Gaga practices “BTW” with her backup singers a cappella. Lady Gaga’s Leaked ‘Judas’ Lyrics Aren’t Quite Real

While some of the lines are legit, others are fabricated, MTV News has learned. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Tom Briglia/ WireImage It looks like someone is trying to fool Little Monsters everywhere by posting incorrect lyrics online for Lady Gaga’s “Judas.” Various versions of lyrics reportedly from the track hit the Internet, and it appears that someone used Gaga’s recent Google interview as inspiration. So far, the only real lyrics from the song are: “When he comes to me, I am ready/ I’ll wash his feet with my hair if he needs/ Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain/ Even after three times, he betrays me/ I’ll bring him down, a king with no crown.” Gaga previously shared an additional line from the song on Twitter, writing, “I’m just a Holy Fool, oh baby he’s so cruel, but I’m still in love with Judas, baby.” From there, someone took all those real lyrics and crafted their own version of the song, which was co-produced by RedOne and the Mother Monster herself. For now, until “Judas” officially drops, fans at least have Gaga’s confessions about the track. “You have to look into what is haunting you and you need to look into forgiving yourself in order to move on,” she said about the song, which will be the second single from Born This Way. . “And it’s really fun to dance to and sounds like it could be a pop Priest record.” Gaga and her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, will co-direct the video, and Gibson seemed excited about the clip when she spoke to MTV News. ” ‘Judas’ is exciting for me because we had this amazing artistic approach to ‘Born This Way,’ and I’m so excited for how riveting, energetic and electric the record is, something really phenomenal,” Gibson said. “So, visually, the dance, the costuming, the idea of how big we’re trying to go, [it’s] going to be a roller-coaster ride.” Related Artists Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga Releases Country Version Of ‘Born This Way’

New take on hit song, dubbed ‘The Country Road Version,’ features slide guitar, mandolin and harmonica. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images You can take all those Madonna comparisons and throw them out the window of your Ford F-150 truck, because on Thursday night Lady Gaga released a whole new version of her global smash “Born This Way” that featured a totally unexpected spin. After tweeting to her Little Monsters that she was preparing to release “Born This Way (The Country Road Version),” Mother Monster dropped the tune at midnight PT on Friday (March 25) via her Twitter account … and it did not disappoint. The new rendition of the hit opens with ominous, swirling guitars and then introduces a fuzzed-out slide guitar and harmonica wheeze, with all of the thumping disco beats replaced by restrained brush drumming and a more laid-back vibe. Once it kicks into the first chorus, the song continues to take its time, choogling along on live-sounding, laconic drumming and lots of soulful harmonica. Just before the three-minute mark, Gaga mixes in some new lyrics, drawling, “If I wanna make it country, baby, then it’s OK, cuz I was born, I was born, I was born this way,” over picked mandolin. “From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave,” she adds, as the song breaks into full-on country-rock mode reminiscent of late-period Bon Jovi in the final minute. Meanwhile, the original, non-boot-scooting version of “BTW” notched its sixth week in a row at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, which is what Gaga said prompted her to drop the surprise remake on her fans. Earlier this week, Gaga revealed that she’s almost done recording her Born This Way album , telling fans via Twitter, “In Nebraska, finishing up record today … I’m so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run.” Plans are now being worked up for the tour in support of Born This Way (due out May 23) and Gaga’s first swing at directing, a collaboration with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, on the video for the album’s upcoming second single, “Judas.” What do you think of Gaga’s twanged-up version of “Born This Way”?
