Lady Gaga Fans Camp Out For Days For ‘Today’ Performance

‘I wanted to cry. It was amazing. It was beautiful,’ one little monster says after Friday’s set. By Nuzhat Naoreen, with additional reporting by Kimberly Reynolds Lady Gaga performs on the “Today” show on Friday Photo: Jemal Countess/ Getty Images NEW YORK — When Derrek Lutz’s family kicked him out of his house for being homosexual, it was Lady Gaga who helped him cope. “My family told me that I was a freak,” said Lutz, 18, from North Cape May, New Jersey. “My whole life was turned upside down, but Gaga made me so comfortable to be myself and dress the way I do, and now I don’t care what anyone thinks.” That’s why on Thursday night, Lutz joined thousands of other fans in the scorching heat to stand in line outside of Rockefeller Plaza to see Gaga’s “Today” show performance early Friday morning (July 9). For Lutz, like many of the fans who spoke to MTV News, it was an opportunity to see a woman whose music inspired them and, in some cases, deeply affected their lives. “She makes me so happy to be myself, she makes me love myself,” Lutz said. The free concert was especially significant to fans who couldn’t afford to buy tickets to her on-going Monster Ball tour. “We can’t afford real tickets, and we’re such big Lady Gaga fans, we had to be here to see her,” said Joshua Rivera, 19, from Towaco, New Jersey, who arrived at Rockefeller Plaza two days early so he could be the first person in line. “I’m literally running on energy,” Josh said, adding that he hadn’t slept since he got there. Felicia Giunta, 19, from Long Island, New York, had already seen Gaga at Madison Square Garden earlier in the week, but that didn’t stop her from camping out for “Today.” “I look up to her so much,” said Felicia, an aspiring dancer. “After I get cut, she’s the first one on my iPod, and it inspires me to keep going.” Lutz caught up with MTV after the show and said the overnight wait was well worth it. “I wanted to cry. It was amazing. It was beautiful,” Lutz said after Gaga’s rain-drenched performance. “Everyone around me was screaming and I just had my eyes closed. I was just taking it all in.” How long would you wait in line to see Lady Gaga? Talk about it in the comments. Lady Gaga Overtakes Obama On Facebook: Fans Weigh In!

‘Her outfits are sexy and she’s just crazy,’ Gaga’s fan explain about her Facebook popularity. By MTV News Staff Lady Gaga Photo: Derek Storm/ Splash News NEW YORK — It goes without saying that Lady Gaga’s little monsters are as devoted to her as she is to them. So when news broke that Gaga had surpassed President Barack Obama in her number of Facebook followers , it really wasn’t a surprise to the Little Monsters MTV News spoke with after her opening night show at Madison Square Garden in New York. “Lady Gaga definitely passed Obama with the number of fans on Facebook cause she’s awesome,” Cathy said. “Her outfits are sexy and she’s just crazy.” Laura proudly flaunted her membership to the Mother Monster fan club proclaiming, “I’m a fan of her Facebook page. I’m one of the 10 million — really!” And it seems a key to the success of beating out the president on Facebook is the fact that Gaga isn’t a politician. “When you get into politics things get very, very sketchy and I think that’s why she managed to gain more fans than he did,” Frankie explained. “Cause as risqu

Lady Gaga Says New Album Will Be ‘Spiritual’

Gaga says Fame follow-up reflects how she feels ‘much more connected to God.’ By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Jon Furniss/ WireImage In a new interview with The Times of London, Lady Gaga gets deep on a number of topics — life, love, health, wealth and religion, to name just a few — and from the sound of things, all of those are going to be addressed on her new album. “You know when people say, ‘If you could say one sentence about who you are, what your life is,’ it’s that. For the whole album,” Gaga told the paper (link). “Because I recently had this … miracle-like experience, where I feel much more connected to God.” When The Times ‘ Caitlin Moran pressed Gaga to clarify her statement, she made it clear that the new album will not shy away from topics like God and religion, but the scope won’t just be limited to Gaga’s own Christian upbringing. The goal, she explains, is to explore them in an all-encompassing, broader sense. “[It’s] more spiritual,” Gaga says. “I don’t want to say much, because I want it to stay hidden until it comes out — but I will say that religion is very confusing for everyone, and particularly me, because there’s really no religion that doesn’t hate or condemn a certain kind of people, and I totally believe in all love and forgiveness, and excluding no one.” Gaga also says that, despite being in the middle of a seemingly endless world tour, she’s recording music “every day.” In fact, she said she has already completed the majority of the follow-up to her ultra-successful The Fame and The Fame Monster. But she was mum about just when her Little Monsters will be able to hear any of it. “[I] can’t talk about it yet,” she said. “But everyone’s going to f—ing know about it when it comes out.” Related Photos Lady Gaga, Elton John Perform At Rainforest Benefit The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Lady Gaga Lights Up Germany Related Artists Lady Gaga

M.I.A. Says Justin Bieber’s Videos Are ‘More Offensive’ Than Her ‘Born Free’

‘I find the new Justin Bieber video more violent and more of an assault to my eyes …,’ M.I.A. told a British magazine. By James Montgomery M.I.A. Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images In the past month, M.I.A. has taken shots at Lady Gaga and, uh, the U.S. government . And now, she’s moved on to the next logical target: Justin Bieber. In the current issue of British music magazine NME , M.I.A. was asked about the meaning behind the controversial clip she made for her song “Born Free.” And rather than reveal her motivations, she seized the opportunity to rip the pint-size prince of pop, saying that the Bieb’s videos are “more offensive” than anything she’s ever done. “I find the new Justin Bieber video more violent and more of an assault to my eyes and senses than what I’ve made,” she joked to the mag. Perhaps not wanting to further draw the ire of Bieber Nation — which, truth be told, might be more powerful than the U.S. government at this point — she then changed the subject, saying that most people’s reactions to the “Born Free” video actually mystifies her … though, to be honest, she’s not exactly spending a lot of time thinking about it. “It baffles me that everyone seems to be obsessed with deciphering the meaning to it,” she said. “It baffles me in the same way as the Brick Lane riot for American Apparel leggings baffled me. We don’t know what the process is for this one is yet. I haven’t thought about it yet and I don’t want to have to.” In April, M.I.A. rankled another fervent fanbase — Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters — when she accused the pop star of stealing her looks from Grace Jones and Madonna and called her “a good mimic.” Related Artists M.I.A. Lady Gaga Planning Ambitious 3-D Concert, DVD

‘There are talks about a 3-D concert and DVD in the near future,’ rep for Gaga tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Lady Gaga is currently in the midst of the Australian leg of her massive Monster Ball tour — with scheduled stops in Japan and Europe — and, as you probably know by now, she’s also putting the finishing touches on the much-anticipated “Telephone” video , too. But neither of those things are standing in the way of yet another ambitious endeavor, a planned 3-D concert and subsequent DVD. On Monday (March 8), MTV News spoke to a rep for her label, Interscope Records, who told us that “there are talks about a 3-D concert and DVD in the near future.” No other information — including just how a 3-D concert would manifest — was available at press time. Late last week, Gaga fansites began speculating about plans for a 3-D DVD (link http://gagadaily.com/2010/03/the-monster-ball-dvd-coming-soon/), but this is the first time a concert has been mentioned. In December, Gaga released a deluxe edition of her Fame Monster album, which included a pair of 3-D glasses that she mysteriously explained would come in handy “for things happening soon .” In the mean time, her Little Monsters are gearing up for the debut of the “Telephone” video — the follow-up to her striking “Bad Romance” clip — which, after weeks of teasing from Gaga herself and some last-minute editing is scheduled to premiere Thursday at 11:30 p.m. ET on E! News. Related Artists Lady Gaga
