Source: Slaven Vlasic / Getty On Tuesday it was announced that Lashana Lynch would take the reign as the new 007 as Daniel Craig is now passing the torch along. It was reported by British Tabloid Daily Mail that 007 would be experiencing a radical makeover in the form of 31-year-old black women and making history. For years now it has been speculated that Daniel Craig’s last time on screen as James Bond would be in 2020 with the released of Bond 25, (this is not the official name, just the temporary name to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the British Secret Service Agent.) According to the report, the upcoming, film will reveal Lynch as the new 007 with Craig’s character coming out of retirement to team up with her for one last mission. The James Bond series has spanned over 60 years, with the first movie coming out in 1962, featuring Sean Connery. Through the years the show has developed a very loyal and protective fan base. In the series’ existence, six different characters have served as James Bond, all six have been white men. Back in 2014, it was reported by many outlets that Idris Elba would take over as the new James Bond, that upset many of the 007 fan base.o “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007’, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” a “movie insider” told the tabloid. “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond, but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.” Then in April of 2018 Elba came out and squashed those rumors stating that he is not interested in the position, saying “You’re THAT character, and known as that character for many, many years.” “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007’, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” a “movie insider” told the outlet. “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond, but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.” The movie is written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is also a newcomer to the Bond series. The movie currently has a release date of April 8, 2020.

Source: Tristan Kallas/ Xavier Collin/Image Press Agency / Splash News Lawyer For Karen Civil Says Writer Never Served Lawsuit Remember the debacle last year when Canadian blogger @WannasWorld shared DM’s from Nicki Minaj ? Last week, reports surfaced from The Blast claiming “Wanna,” is suing Karen Civil, her website and CEO Christian Emiliano for defamation and seeking a whopping $1.5 million in damages. According to court documents obtained by The Blast: She says as she processed the events that unfolded with her and Minaj, she then turned her attention to the Live Civil group chat, where they requested she delete the Tweet. [She] says she immediately deleted the tweet per their request. Shortly after deleting the Tweet, she claims to have been cut out of the group chat. She claims they then told her she was no longer employed by Civil or any of her companies…. says they told her Minaj was a client of Civil’s other company. She claims the CEO, Christian Emiliano, then took to Twitter to go on a “public rant” about her. [She] claims he damaged her reputation with his comments and hurt her ability to get work. $1.5 million is a looooot of money to sue over an unpaid internship – isn’t it? But hold up, a lawyer for Karen Civil claims that his client hasn’t even been served with a lawsuit. BOSSIP received the following statement from Karen Civil’s Attorney Walter Mosley: We have not been served with any lawsuit so we can not respond to the specifics of this alleged case. However, my firm was hired to respond to defamation and character assault perpetrated by this young lady many months ago and it seems like her actions have persisted from reading this article. At this time we will reserve our rights to exercise the full extent of every available remedy both financial and/or filing for injunctive relief. We should also remind [her] that she is still under a comprehensive NDA w/ Karen Civil. Karen Civil is the CEO & Owner of all her companies & properties. Sooo is there a lawsuit or not? And if there is, does Thompson even have a case? BOSSIP saw communication between Wanna and Emiliano where Emiliano explicitly stated to his staff that the website has relationships with certain artists and brands through Always Civil and to “make sure any content or opinions on this platform and your own is always respectful and a priority. This includes: Nicki Minaj, Teyana Taylor, Hillary Clinton, Pharrell, Iman Shumpert, Lil Wayne, Nipsey Hussle, Lauren London, YG, Pusha T, and a few others. Understood?” to which Thompson replied, “Okay noted.” This also isn’t the first time Wanna has sought financial compensation over this issue. A GoFundMe seeking $2500 was posted ten months ago. As you can imagine, the Barbz are heating up for Wanna over the lawsuit claims already. you were fired by the company because you violated their social media policy while you were under their employment. all nicki did was drag you and post the dm. can you come up with something else? @WannasWorld — Kevin Thomas. Source: NewsOne Screenshots / NewsOne Now Four years after Sandra Bland was found dead in her jail cell in Waller County, Texas, America finds itself at a crossroads. In the wake of intense violence nationwide and a President who emboldens this type of violence, we must decide now if we are going to allow systemic violence against marginalized communities to become part of the status quo, or are we going to make a change. In spite of the countless injustices that have transpired since her death, it is impossible not to be haunted by Sandra’s story — not just for the sheer scope of its tragedy, but also for how regular she was. Sandra could have been any one of us. Four years later, racial tensions have only grown progressively worse in America. On this day, it’s important to reflect on the lessons we learned from Sandra, whose light and legacy can never be dimmed. Here is what Sandra has taught us: You Can Control Your Legacy Too often, Black victims of police brutality end up facing a trial in the public eye. Mainstream media often depicts them as somehow deserving of the horrendous treatment they received. But Sandra’s commitment to documenting her life meant that she was empowered to leave her own legacy and tell her own story beyond her death. Her vlog, #SandySpeaks, gave us all the chance to get to know how she lived rather than just how she died. She could not be erased. Furthermore, her family’s activism beyond her death has left a profound impact on today’s civil rights movement . The tragedy they experienced spurned them into action. And those actions are proof of the impact she had on their lives. Respectability Politics Won’t Save Us Black people are often told that what they wear, how they speak, and what they do can somehow save them from racism. It is one of the great myths of modern society. It’s hard to think of a more “respectable” person than Sandra. She was an educated, accomplished, beautiful woman. She was getting ready to begin a new career. She had a promising future. And still, she died in police custody under extremely mysterious circumstances. According to a recent report in the The Guardian , “based on the latest national figures available from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, 4,980 prisoners in US correctional facilities died in 2014, a nearly 3% increase from 2013. In addition, in state prisons, the mortality rate was 275 for every 100,000 people, the highest since data collection began in 2001.” We have to stop holding Black people to standards that we believe will save us in a system that is failing to protect us. Trayvon Martin did not die because of his hoodie. Alton Sterling didn’t die because of his previous issues with the law. Education and career choice couldn’t save Sandra or Philando Castile . They were victims of a racist system that needs to be changed. It’s Not Only Black Men Who Are In Danger The #SayHerName movement has been around for some time, but it was Sandra’s death, along with female victims like Korryn Gaines , Natasha McKenna , Rekia Boyd , and Kindra Chapman that thrust it into the national dialogue. But if Sandra is proof of anything, it’s that we have a long way to go. Were it not for social media and the tireless efforts of her family, we may never have known her name. It’s not hard to imagine just how many female victims remain ghosts in the public persona. Black women are one of the world’s most marginalized populations and we can no longer operate under the illusion that just because we aren’t hearing about it, it’s not happening. And iconic athlete Lisa Leslie is back in the game, but this time she’s making moves from the sidelines. The six foot five Compton, CA native is now coaching the Big3 basketball league’s Triplets and will lead her team this weekend as they face off against the Tri-State. “Being part of the Big3 has been more than I’ve ever dreamed of,” Leslie told us. “I saw it and I watched it as a fan, and to be part of the Big3 family – I kind of get choked up because I never thought that I would really coach.” Leslie was honored Friday at Toyota’s Women of Big3 Power Luncheon at the MoCada Museum in Brooklyn, where she spoke about her new role and how basketball impacted her life. Also honored was Big3 chairwoman Amy Trask and Big3 head coach Nancy Lieberman. Source: Soul Brother / Soul Brother Leslie – who played 12 seasons with the WNBA and was the first female baller to dunk on live TV – said she’s relishing her new role as a coach, writing scouting reports, going over games to find weak spots and mentoring the players. And when she was asked about what it was like to coach a team of male athletes, Leslie said that it’s not a big deal. “It’s just been so much fun,” she said. “It’s been thrilling – I always say it’s like playing chess and playing dominoes and playing spades all at the same time. If you’ve ever played any of those, you kind of understand the strategy of it, the energy of it, the fight of it – the passion.” Hit the flip for more pics from the luncheon:
Source: Bill Clark / Getty Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost Was Part Of Racist Facebook Group This Yogi The Bear lookin’ broad has some nerve talkin’ s#!t about somebody. According to The Intercept , Carla Provost, chief of the Border Patrol, was quick to get her righteous indignation on when news broke that there was a racist Facebook group called “I’m 10-15” (10-15 is agency code for “aliens in custody”) for agents who wanted to spew their unfiltered hate toward immigrants seeking asylum in America. “These posts are completely inappropriate and contrary to the honor and integrity I see — and expect — from our agents day in and day out,” Provost said in a statement. “Any employees found to have violated our standards of conduct will be held accountable.” Thing is, Provost was/is full of s#!t because SHE was one of those employees who violated the standards and needs to be held accountable. She was named head of the agency in August 2018, three months later she left an innocuous comment in response to an agent questioning how she got such a high ranking position so fast. The obvious problem is that in her response she acted as if she knew nothing about this group that she was obviously a member of. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, sent a letter to the DHS Inspector General’s office last week specifically requesting that investigators examine whether Provost and Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan knew about or had previously addressed the problem of government personnel posting “violent, racist, misogynistic comments and pictures” in the “I’m 10-15” group. “This is why I have requested a full investigation into this matter,” Thompson said in a statement to The Intercept, after being informed of Provost’s participation in the group. “We need to know who in CBP leadership knew about these deplorable groups, when did they find out, and what action they took, if anything.” Provost and anyone else in this group needs to be fired, but we won’t hold out breath…
Source: Roberto Machado Noa / Getty Dairy Queen Employee Fired For Making An Inappropriate Cake A Dairy Queen employee in Georgia ended up being fired after she made a marijuana-themed cake for a woman’s 25th birthday. The whole ordeal began when Kensli Taylor Davis’ mother called a Dairy Queen and asked for a Moana -themed cake. A manager at the store who took the order misheard the request and thought she said “marijuana.” When Davis’ mother went to go pick up the cake, she received one that featured a picture of a marijuana plant as well as an extremely high My Little Pony. It was supposed to be a Moana cake, but a young woman instead received a birthday cake featuring marijuana and a “My Little Pony”-themed character smoking marijuana. https://t.co/tvUyWlyiak pic.twitter.com/ob0kZKP9ku — ABC 7 News – WJLA (@ABC7News) July 10, 2019 “I think they thought that she said ‘marijuana’ because we are from south Georgia and kind of have an accent. So, Moana , marijuana,” Davis explained to Georgia’s WMAZ-TV. I meeeean, the two words do sound alike. So they’ve got a point there–but you’d think the employee would clarify once or twice what the customer wants the theme of their cake to be. Anyway…. Kensli posted about the encounter on her Facebook page in good spirits, writing in her caption: “I haven’t had a chance to tell y’all about our experience this weekend with my birthday cake. So my mama called and ordered me a cake telling them how much I loved Moana. (Because really I do) Well needless to say these people thought she said marijuana That ice cream cake was still good though ” Cassandra Walker, the Dairy Queen employee who made the cake, opened up about the incident to USA Today after being fired. “This is back-to-school time. I have two little girls here,” explained Walker, who worked at Dairy Queen for around a year. “I have a car that needs fixing. It’s not funny to me.” She also says she made the cake with the approval of her manager. “The manager stood behind me while I pulled the images off the internet. She walked by as I decorated the cake. As I boxed the cake up, she was the one who walked it up to the front.” “This was a simple misunderstanding from the beginning,” Al Autry, one of the owners of the Dairy Queen, said in a statement given to USA Today . “Our cake decorator designed a cake based on what she thought she heard the customer order. When the customer picked it up and said it was not what she ordered, we immediately apologized for the error and offered to redesign it the way she originally intended. The customer said it was fine, paid for the cake and left.” Walker was eventually offered her job back, but says it was Autry who fired her in the first place. She declined the offer.
