Time and time again, interviews with Mike Johnson showed the charmter Bachelorette alum gently set aside rumors that he was in talks with ABC. He was — and is — a fan-favorite to be the next leading man, even though Peter Weber is the Bachelor . Now, Mike reveals that he was in talks, that he did want the role, and shares the extremely noble reason why he was hyped for it. Mike Johnson had already weighed in a little on Peter’s selection — he’s a big fan! But on The Bachelor Happy Hour with Rachel & Ali podcast, he elaborates upon how much he would have liked it to have been him. “I was 100% in talks to be the next Bachelor,” Mike reveals for the first time, having previously claimed to have not been in talks. He admits that, because of this deception, “People probably didn’t think I was considered to be the Bachelor.” Mike explains that he denied being in talks “because I was trying to be so respectful of the crew at Bachelor world.” “And,” he reasons. “I didn’t want to speak about it.” “Even when I went on TV. I thought that was being extremely respectful and a gentlemen of me to the Bachelor world,” Mike says. Oh, he absolutely was. “And Peter didn’t do those interviews,” he acknowledges. “So he didn’t have to go through that.” “I 100% wanted to be the Bachelor,” Mike emphasizes. And he tells th eworld exactly why. He explains: “Reasons being: One, I do want to find a wife.” Mike then adds: “Two, it was bigger than me and I wanted to represent for all people of color.” “Talking about people of color,” Mike continues, pointing out that the black community is not the only minority underrepresented on the show. Having more than twenty seasons but zero black men isn’t a coincidence, but there’s more to it than anti-blackness. “They need to have an Asian Bachelor, they need to have an Indian Bachelor,” he correctly expressed. Mike added: “They need to have other people outside of just black and white.” He also goes into detail about how far along, how prepared, he was. “I had a list of — a Word document — of the type of woman I wanted, what I was scared of, what I wasn’t scared of,” Mike reveals. Mike makes it clear that, as important as representation is, he’s not bitter. “They chose the right person for what they want,” Mike expresses. “And there’s nothing wrong with that at all,” he emphasizes. Mike admits: “When I first found out, I’m not gonna lie, I was sad. I was annoyed when I very first found out.” “But then by the end of the night, I wasn’t annoyed no more,” he shares. Mike explains: “because I was appreciative and thankful that they told me ‘no’ right then and there, because now I could focus on myself.” We can understand why he would have felt annoyed. Not only did ABC and producers skip over yet another black candidate for leading man, but Mike must have felt strung along. Hopefully, his date with Demi Lovato soothed some of that hurt. The weather may be turning cold across various parts of the country, but it remains wedding season for at least one very famous family. First, as previously detailed, Amy Roloff announced that she is engaged to long-time boyfriend Chris Marek. We’re so very, very happy for these two. Now, Audrey and Jeremy Roloff are here to gush over each other almost like never before, as the former TLC personalities are here to celebrate their five-year wedding anniversary. “We celebrate today like it’s a national holiday every year,” Audrey wrote on Saturday to open the lengthy caption that accompanies the throwback photo above. “Because we believe anniversaries are important and worth celebrating big. Happy 5 year anniversary,” she added. Audrey and Jeremy have something else to celebrate at the moment, of course, as they’re expecting a baby boy in January. They have something to mourn, the loss of a close friend . Janeé Bolden: How you decided who to actually feature on the show?(Henson, Shahidi, Reid, Duvernay, Lathan and the Hills all make appearances, while some clients were mentioned via photos or video b-roll) Jason Bolden: It was the middle of the awards season and a lot of people were working or traveling, so a lot of it was the people who had a window of time and were available. Everything was happening in real time. Seeing Taraji the day of the Emmys was happening in real time. How did that factor into you guys wanting to tell your story? Jason: Hashtag #DoubleBlack! Adair: In the beginning, and even up until we started doing press, it’s always in the back of your mind, you’re cognizant of it, that it is not often that you see yourself represented, or scenarios of people who look like you so much or have backgrounds like you, so much. So it was important to us to be portrayed in our truest form, in our truest light and to give audiences a glimpse of what our life is like. We’re just like everyone else. Janeé: Yes you are, but way more fabulous! Better access, better cars, way cuter dog, way more access to dope closets and interiors as well. All that aside, you’re both very busy… How did you make time for production? Video production is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a production… That part didn’t get frustrating at all? Adair: Yeah that part was hard. It was something we had to adjust to, because our work schedules are very hectic and we work around the clock. Sometimes I had to film by myself because Jason was working, he had to be on location somewhere or on a set with somebody or at a fitting. And then even vice versa. Jason had to film while I was at a site meeting or I may have been in meetings or designing … It was something we had to adjust to but the family just got used to it. Janeé: If you guys get to do another season, and I hope you do, will we get to see more of your job Adair? I feel like the Hill house took up the bulk of the season in terms of what we saw of your work. We saw Sanaa’s Air BnB, we saw you furniture shopping with Gabrielle Union, but outside of that we saw a lot of Jason during awards season. Adair: Yeah it’s hard to please everybody the crazy thing, or the factual thing about interiors is that things take a long time. Renovations take a long time. While Jason could outfit someone quickly and you can get this on film quickly, we can start a renovation in December and not finish until the next December and when you have a window to fit something in that’s what you do. If we get a second season. we will show the interior work, because Jason is involved in that too and you don’t get to see that so much. Our dynamic of how we work together on interiors.
