Her? Mae Whitman Joins John Malkovich’s Perks of Being a Wallflower

Someone bang the casting gong. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World co-star Mae Whitman — who you might remember as Ann from Arrested Development — is in final negotiations to join The Perks of Being a Wallflower , the angsty Stephen Chbosky novel that John Malkovich’s production company Mr. Mudd is adapting for the big screen. Whitman will play the protagonist’s first girlfriend, “a tattooed vegetarian.” Logan Lerman and Emma Watson have already been cast in the indie drama. [ Variety ]

Logan Lerman Talks Three Musketeers, Says He Knows Nothing About Percy Jackson 2

At the age of 19, Logan Lerman ( The Patriot, Jack & Bobby, Gamer ) has been acting for over a decade and later this year will take on the most iconic character of his career — one of the most recognizable heroes in literature, even: D’A rtagnan in Paul W.S. Anderson’s Three Musketeers . Lerman made his first trip to WonderCon with footage from the October 2011 3D action pic in tow and sat for a quick chat with Movieline about Anderson’s insane-looking take on the Alexandre Dumas novel , the reportedly in-the-works sequel to Percy Jackson and the Olympians , and a little-known YouTube user known as monkeynuts1069.

Emma Watson Confirmed For ‘Perks Of Being A Wallflower’ Film

Actress will star opposite Logan Lerman in her first post-‘Harry Potter’ leading role. By Terri Schwartz Emma Watson It’s been nine months since Variety first announced that Emma Watson might be starring in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” and now Watson’s first post-“Harry Potter” leading role has been confirmed. Both she and Logan Lerman will headline the adaptation that Summit Entertainment recently picked up . Watson confirmed the casting on her Facebook page , saying, “Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know that the rumours are true – I’m going to be playing Sam in ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ opposite Logan Lerman. Love Em xx.” Chbosky will both write and direct the film, with John Malkovich executive-producing it. “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” follows 15-year-old wallflower Charlie (Lerman) who writes a series of letters to an unknown person about his life, including his love for a girl named Sam (Watson), the suicide of his best friend and his struggle to find a group of friends in which he belongs. It is considered to be one of the best interpretations of adolescence in the 1990s out there. “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” isn’t the only film on Watson’s slate. She’s filmed a small but important role in the upcoming Michelle Williams-starring film “My Week With Marilyn” and is also a top contender to star opposite Taylor Lautner in the adaptation of the young-adult novel “Incarceron.” There’s also the last “Harry Potter” film, “Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” which is scheduled to hit theaters July 15. ‘Percy Jackson’ Star Logan Lerman Felt ‘Really Stupid’ During Best Fight-Nominated Scene

‘You’ve got to put your mind outside of the room and embarrass yourself a little bit,’ Lerman says. By Eric Ditzian Logan Lerman Photo: MTV News Best Fight might be the most deceptive of all the MTV Movie Awards’ categories. What fans see up on the screen — those weapon-wielding brawls, knees to the groin and bloody-gash-opening body blows — certainly looks badass, what goes into creating them on set is quite often the opposite. And that, perhaps, is what make a cinematic fight truly great: you cringe at every punch, feel your stomach turn as the blood flows, you simply believe it, despite knowing it’s all make believe. It’s in this context that we approach this year’s Best Fight nominees , in particular Logan Lerman and Jake Abel’s throwdown in “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.” “It was awkward,” Lerman laughed during an interview with MTV News. “I felt really stupid doing it. You’ve got to put your mind outside of the room and embarrass yourself a little bit and feel comfortable to be in the moment.” Lerman plays a dyslexic high school kid who discovers he’s actually the son of Poseidon and is pulled into a world-saving mission in which he battles snake-haired villains, nefarious demigods and a few terrifying beasts. The climatic scene — the one for which he’s nominated — sees him facing off against Abel on the rooftops, and in the skies, of New York City. They fly, they clash, they crash, they fly some more, until Lerman uses his powers to manipulate water and lay down some serious hurt. “That was about a month of filming just to do that one sequence,” Lerman explained. “We learned so much. We had to learn how to fly, be in wires and make it look good. Go down rooftops while having to swing at invisible lightning bolts being shot at you. It was a pretty crazy experience and I was completely blown away when I saw it onscreen. I’m so glad it got nominated — and pray that it wins!” His competition is stiff, and he’s most worried about Beyonc

Will Zach Galifianakis Be MTV Movie Awards’ Best Breakout Star?

‘Hangover’ funnyman will have to get past Gabourey Sidibe, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Logan Lerman and Quinton Aaron to claim the prize. By Jocelyn Vena Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Bradley Cooper in “The Hangover” Photo: Warner Bros. What happens when you pit two Oscar nominees, a starship captain, a teen demigod, a high school football hero and a pants-shedding funnyman against one another? Well, you get the race for Best Breakout Star at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards , airing live this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. And while the case can be made for any of these fine nominees, it’s really up to fans to crown their favorite to take the Golden Popcorn in this category. “Twilight” fans already knew Anna Kendrick as Bella Swan’s chatty pal Jessica, but the actress showed she could hold her own as an overachieving young professional opposite George Clooney in “Up in the Air.” Kendrick’s Natalie sets out to prove she has what it takes to make it in the corporate world. Now, Kendrick will try to do the same at the awards show. Chris Pine had big shoes to fill when he stepped in to play Captain Kirk in last year’s “Star Trek” prequel/reboot. But Pine’s modern take on William Shatner’s iconic role won him raves from Trekkies, who’ll no doubt be pushing for him. But it wasn’t only Pine who expanded his fanbase in the sci-fi universe. Logan Lerman’s starring role in “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” garnered him buzz as a possible contender to play Spider-Man in the next installment of the franchise. Pine showed he was boss on the starship, but Lerman, who kicks butt as a teenage demigod, is no lightweight. After her turn in the gritty “Precious,” Gabourey Sidibe went from relative nobody to Academy Award nominee. The dark, sometimes disturbing flick highlighted Sidibe’s range and made her a newcomer to watch. Another first-time actor, Quinton Aaron, won Sandra Bullock’s heart (and American moviegoers’) in “The Blind Side,” the surprise box-office smash about a homeless young man who turns his life around, thanks to a generous Texas family. But while Aaron’s character Michael scores on the gridiron, stiff competition will make winning much harder at the Movie Awards. Zach Galifianakis took on a tiger, a baby, a gangster and even Mike Tyson in “The Hangover.” What’s a couple of actors to this funnyman? Galifianakis is hilarious as the often pants-less Alan Garner, who kicks off a bachelor party by spiking his pals’ drinks. He may be the breakout star to beat. Orlando Bloom In Talks For ‘Three Musketeers’

Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew Macfadyen confirmed for titular roles in Paul W.S. Anderson flick. By Adam Rosenberg Orlando Bloom Photo: Getty Images/ Frederick M. Brown Of Hollywood’s two competing “Three Musketeers” projects — one to be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the other by Doug Liman — Anderson’s treatment just took a big, galloping lead. A big chunk of cast has been announced as either confirmed or in negotiation, including the parts of the titular musketeers, their pal d’Artagnan and the main villains. The Hollywood Reporter ‘s Heat Vision blog revealed that Ray Stevenson (“The Book of Eli”), Luke Evans (“Clash of the Titans”) and Matthew Macfadyen (“Robin Hood”) are confirmed for the roles of Porthos, Athos and Aramis, respectively, the so-called Three Musketeers. “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” star Logan Lerman is in negotiations for d’Artagnan, the young protagonist of the original Alexandre Dumas novel. On the villains’ side, Anderson has locked in two great ones: “Inglourious Basterds” Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz will play Cardinal Richelieu and “Casino Royale” villain Mads Mikkelsen is locked for Rochefort. The director’s wife, Milla Jovovich, star of Anderson’s “Resident Evil” series, also joined the cast. She’ll play Milady de Winter, a former lover of Musketeer Athos described as a “17th-century ‘Bond’ girl.” As if all of this top-tier casting isn’t enough, there’s also an offer out to Orlando Bloom for the role of the Duke of Buckingham. Anderson, who co-wrote the script with Andrew Davies, is said to be going for a “contemporary” feel while maintaining the period setting in his treatment of the story. The adaptation will also be presented in 3-D, a format that Anderson has been vocal about embracing in all of his future film work. His next effort, “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” is in 3-D and currently set for a September 10 release. What other young Hollywood actor should join the “Musketeers”? Tell us in the comments!
