‘See No More’ singer ‘got the reaction right away’ on debut solo single. By Jocelyn Vena Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News Joe Jonas seems to be getting all the support he needs from his fans as he embarks on releasing his solo album, Fast Life , this September. The album will be an intimate look at the inner monologue of the Jonas Brother. While it’s a bit of a scary process going at it without his brothers, he said fan feedback is making the transition a lot easier. “I was really excited,” he told MTV News about hearing fans’ comments. “I love the world we live in where you can know what people are thinking right away.” He added that while much of the response has been positive, he’s also cool with any criticism that might come his way. “I guess you like it and you don’t like it, but I like it because [my single] ‘See No More,’ when it released on iTunes, I got the reaction right away of what people are thinking.” The song’s video also got tons of feedback, but long before the video dropped, it took a little work getting it all together. “The video kind of came together with a concept I had using a house as a metaphor to show destruction of a heart or of the mind,” he explained. “The first director didn’t work out. I kept fighting to find the right treatment.” That right treatment put Joe in an “almost dream world with a house where the house is falling apart, the house is on fire, there’s explosions,” he explained. “And I’m a guy, so I was immediately really excited about that.” So, how does “See No More” co-writer Chris Brown feel about the release? “He’s really pumped for the song and he gave his support, which was really cool,” Jonas said. ‘It is really sad,’ he tells MTV News of ‘Deathly Hallows, Part 2.’ By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Rupert Grint Photo: MTV News Spoiler alert: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” is a tearjerker. While fans already expected to walk into the theater Friday with a box of tissues in hand, the “Potter” stars were a bit surprised to find that watching the final film in the series could bring them to tears — or at least make them choke up. Viewers will likely find the movie emotional on two levels, because the story itself has tragic elements and because its release marks the end of a decade-long film series. Even though the actors finished filming the movie more than a year ago, they said there were still scenes in “Deathly Hallows, Part 2” that made them fight back tears. Rupert Grint said that, despite the fact he’s seen the movie twice, he had to walk out of the theater during the London premiere last week. “I caught a bit. It is really sad,” he told MTV News.”There’s a scene where all three of us are on the bridge after the battle, the castle is on fire … there’s a weird parallel between that and our lives. That always gets me.” For Tom Felton, it was the epilogue scene that concludes the movie that almost brought him to tears. That scene has especial emotional resonance for him because his real-life girlfriend, Jade Olivia, plays the wife of his character Draco in the flash-forward sequence. But it was actually Daniel Radcliffe’s scene between Harry and his children at King’s Cross station that affected him the most. “There was something really nice about seeing Daniel with his kids at the end. I really thought Daniel did a marvelous job of being older. I got a bit emotional about that,” Felton said. “Even though it’s funny, it was really quite sad to think that, ‘Christ, our lives have flashed before our eyes. We’re old!’ ” Radcliffe also told MTV News that he found scenes in the film “heartbreaking,” especially Alan Rickman’s performance during Severus Snape’s flashback sequence . Beyond the film, Felton said he nearly cried during Radcliffe, Grint and Emma Watson’s heartfelt goodbye speeches at the London premiere last week. He had to talk himself through it, saying, “Just keep it together, Tom, just keep it together,” but according to the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” actor, it was a close call. “[The speeches] were really quite special,” he said. “I was really touched by that. I could have easily let myself go.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘I’m still in it? No way!,’ actor tells MTV News. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Rupert Grint Photo: MTV News Forget the NCAA Tournament: This is the bracket to end all brackets. For weeks, Harry Potter fans — in preparation for the saga’s final installment, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” opening in theaters on Friday — have been participating in our “Harry Potter” World Cup , which will determine who is the best character in the series, as chosen by you. And after thousands of votes and some major upsets in just about every seed (Harry’s out!), we are down to the Final Four . There’s the headstrong Hermione Granger vs. the redemptive Severus Snape and the rogue Sirius vs. the beloved Ron Weasley. MTV’s own Josh Horowitz announced the exciting news to Mr. Weasley himself, Rupert Grint , to which the actor happily responded, “I’m still in it? No way!” While Grint isn’t sure of his chances of taking the whole Cup should he end up going against Hermione or Severus in the final round (“I don’t think I could do that — I mean, Snape is a great character,” he told us), the 22-year-old is honored simply to have made it this far. “It’s amazing. It’s quite touching really,” Grint said of the “Potter” and, more specifically, Ron Weasley fans. See the full bracket and vote! In fact, the Cup has given the “Potter” cast the chance to see how relentlessly devoted the fans are to the series and the characters. “It’s the only time you’re kind of aware of how important these films are to people,” said Grint of events like the Cup or premieres, where devotees wait out for days and scream out for their favorite stars. While rabid fanbases may scare off some stars of popular sagas, Grint only has the fondest feelings for those who have made the “Harry Potter” films part of their lives for the past decade. As he put it to MTV News, “It’s great. I’m going to miss it all, really.” Join the club. “Harry Potter” fans will get the chance to determine whether Ron Weasley will go to the next round as voting for the Final Four continues through midnight. Then, the final showdown in the World Cup starts immediately at 12:01 a.m. ET on Monday, July 11. Critics praise the ‘stout farewell’ of David Yates’ action-packed franchise finale. By Terri Schwartz Daniel Radcliffe and Ralph Fiennes in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures The final installment of the “Harry Potter” series is primed to make magic at the box office, but it’s already getting raves from critics as well. Early reviews of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” are positive across the board, earning the flick a whopping 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes . And although that number is likely to dip a bit once all of the reviews come flooding in next week when it hits theaters — we’ll be streaming live from the red-carpet premiere on Monday, July 11, at 4:30 p.m. ET on MTV.com — the overwhelming consensus is that “Deathly Hallows, Part 2” delivers on every level. Additionally, it seems that splitting the “Deathly Hallows” into two parts was a good call. While reviews for “Deathly Hallows, Part 1” tended to find that the movie felt too much like a prelude to the climax of the upcoming “Part 2,” the early reviews for the final film make it clear that the last installment doesn’t skimp on the action, emotional core or storytelling that has driven the franchise. The real question is whether “Part 2” is a satisfying conclusion to the “Potter” series, and the consensus seems to be that it definitely is. But don’t take our word for it: Read on and check out what the critics are saying. The Story “The film versions of J.K. Rowling’s stories have enthralled me, and I watched them with child-like wonder. The final film chapter had me literally sitting on the edge of my seat at times, particularly in the scene where Harry, Ron and Hermione (who for reasons too complicated to go into here has to look like Bellatrix Lestrange) break into a bank and escape over the London skyline on the back of a fire-breathing dragon.” — Baz Bamigboye, The Performances “The actors here have to make the most of their fleeting moments, and they consistently do. What the post-‘Potter’ careers of Radcliffe, Watson and Grint will be like is anyone’s guess, but at this point they know how to take these particular characters to the bridge without breaking a sweat. Alan Rickman gets to show us many sides of Snape, and he’s as compelling as always, even when the flashbacks use some freaky age-erasing special effects that leave his face looking odd. [Helena] Bonham Carter’s Bellatrix Lestrange is as goth-gorgon as ever, but she has some fun with some early scenes in which she gets to portray the Hermione-on-polyjuice-potion version of the character. And during the film’s big climactic battle, [Maggie] Smith and Julie Walters get some tasty moments that make their relatively small roles over the course of the series worthwhile.” — Alonso Duralde, The Wrap The Split “Fully justifying the decision, once thought purely mercenary, of splitting J.K. Rowling’s final book into two parts, this is an exciting and, to put it mildly, massively eventful finale that will grip and greatly please anyone who has been at all a fan of the series up to now. If ever there was a sure thing commercially, this stout farewell is it.” — Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter The Action “Perhaps the greatest triumph of this final film is its ability to overcome the deficiencies of J.K. Rowling’s writing. In the last Harry Potter volume, she failed singularly to muster the epic feel needed; as a result, on the page, the concluding battle at Hogwarts was a damp squib. But [director David] Yates here transmutes it into a genuinely terrifying spectacle, as bloodied students fight desperately against a horde of screaming black-robed Death Eaters.” — Philip Womack, The Telegraph The End “And if you think you know how it all ends, you don’t. Yates has wisely tickled the face-off between the rivals to make it even better than the version Rowling wrote in her book. Unlike many other franchises, the quality of the Harry Potter films never dropped. The producers could have broken box-office records with a basic cardboard set thanks to the dedicated fanbase. Yet they have blown a fortune to make a special experience for them.” — Grant Rollings, The Sun We’re streaming live from the red carpet at the New York premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” on Monday, July 11, at 4:30 p.m. ET.
