Seth Meyers Named Next Host of Late Night on NBC

Ready for Every Weeknight Update? In a move that’s been rumored for week, Seth Meyers was officially named the next host of Late Night on NBC today. He will take over for Jimmy Fallon when that comedian slides into Jay Leo’s spot at 11:35 p.m. in 2014. Said Bob Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, in announcing the news: “We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation. His years at SNL’s ‘Weekend Update’ desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the ‘Late Night’ franchise.” Added Meyers himself: “I only have to work for [producer Lorne Michaels] for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car. 12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice.” What do you think of Seth Meyers as Late Night host?   Yes, he’s hilarious! No, we need him on SNL! No, he sucks! View Poll »

Makin’ It Rain On Them Mogul Hoes: Oprah’s Dubbed A ‘Top Rule Breaker’ On The Cover Of The Hollywood Reporter

They named her one of 2012′s ‘Rule Breakers’… According to The Hollywood Reporter , Oprah says she’s got a lot to be thankful for in 2012: “I’m not doing the hula yet …but compared to a year ago, it feels like a sigh of relief,” says Winfrey between sips of iced tea on her sprawling estate. She’s referring to the recent surge in relevance (and ratings) of her OWN cable network, which debuted two years earlier to a deluge of headlines about weak programming, management shake-ups and its honcho’s dwindling influence. “Part of my own expectation was, ‘You’ve had 25 years of success; people will leverage that,’ ” confesses the 58-year-old mogul. “But we didn’t account for people not having the channel, and not knowing how to find it, and the cable audience being different from broadcast.” Today, the network, co-owned by Discovery and Winfrey, is generating fresh ink: 3.5 million viewers tuned in to see her mourn with Whitney Houston’s family as part of her Oprah’s Next Chapter interview series; 2.5 million watched as Rihanna opened up about her relationship with R&B star Chris Brown; and 1.6 million watched her debate marriage and faith with Pastor Joel Osteen. OWN also has signed a lucrative producing deal with Tyler Perry, found buzz in shows like Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s (a reality series about a St. Louis family who runs soul food restaurants) and delivered 10 consecutive months of year-over-year growth. Discovery chief David Zaslav has stated that the feel-good network is poised to become profitable in late 2013, ahead of the five-year horizon Saturday Night Live’s Lorne Michaels, a friend, told Winfrey to expect. “He said to me, ‘It’s like throwing spaghetti against the wall and watching it drizzle down,’ ” she recalls of a conversation they had in early 2011. “ ‘Nothing’s going to work until you get there.’ ” What do you think of OWN?? ‘Saturday Night Live’ Will Have ‘Some’ Cast Changes

‘I’d like everyone to stay,’ Lorne Michaels says, addressing rumors that Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis are leaving the show. By Jocelyn Vena Kristen Wiig and Darrell Hammond on “Saturday Night Live” Photo: NBC Last month, there were rumors that “Saturday Night Live” standouts Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis might not be back for another season of the late-night staple. Wiig teased her possible exit in an interview with Alec Baldwin, while Samberg and Sudeikis have remained tight-lipped on their rumored departures. On Wednesday, during a conference call about this weekend’s Eli Manning/ Rihanna episode , the show’s boss, Lorne Michaels, confirmed there would be some cast shakeups next season but didn’t specify how they would take shape. “I’m not really certain myself,” he told reporters when asked whether there would be any exits. “I know there will be some, but it’s just sort of the nature of the way we work that no one kind of talks about it until the season’s done. Needless to say, I’d like everyone to stay. Did that avoid that question successfully?” While he didn’t want to fully commit to commenting on the future of the three actors on “SNL,” he did share that fresh meat would be brought in to liven up the cast for next season. “Every summer, we go out and make the rounds of Chicago and L.A. and New York and various other places where people do this kind of work, and invariably that leads to somebody joining [the cast],” he teased. “The show has always been about bringing new people in.” With the season nearing an end, fans might not have to wait much longer to find out who will stay and who will go. But before any announcements are made, it seems the show has plans for this season to wrap with a bang. Per the show’s Twitter page, Will Ferrell and Usher will be on hand for the May 11 episode and Mick “Moves Like” Jagger will pull double-duty on the May 19 season finale. Is Kristin Wiig Leaving SNL?

‘When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing,’ Wiig says about her eventual departure from the show. By Gil Kaufman Kristen Wiig on SNL Photo: NBC No more Target Lady. No More Gillie. No more boozy Kathie Lee Gifford. No more loopy Bjork. On Monday, break-out “Saturday Night Live” star Kristen Wiig heightened speculation that her seven-year run on the show may be coming to an end. Just days after rumors surfaced that Wiig, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg could be flying the coop at the end of this season, Wiig was interviewed on Alec Baldwin’s popular podcast on Monday and hinted that the end may be nigh. “I don’t know,” Wiig said when Baldwin asked if her run on “SNL” could be “winding down” soon. “Everyone has to leave…and I will say that when I do leave, it’s not because I’m sick of it and not because I see something better or anything like that. It’s just that it’s time. When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing.” Even as she became one of the most valuable cast members of the show over the past few years with her many go-for-broke characters and spot-on impressions of everyone from Lana Del Rey to Kris Jenner and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Wiig has tasted the fruits of big-screen success as well thanks to the smash “Bridesmaids” .
She not only co-starred in the film, but also co-wrote it with pal Annie Mumolo, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The 38-year-old actress, who appeared in bit parts in films such as “Knocked Up,” “Adventureland,” “Whip It!” and “Date Night,” also told Baldwin that she’s got some big plans on the horizon that don’t involve late-night TV. “People are always so surprised when I want to do dramatic stuff,” she said. “There are a couple of things that I’m looking at doing next that aren’t comedies at all. One of them is really not at all.” Though she would not cough up the details on said dramatic project, Baldwin tweaked her by saying that the versatile comic would have “absolutely no prospects whatsoever” when she left the show. “It’s a really ballsy move on your part because who the F is going to hire you?” he joked about the “SNL” star that executive producer and show creator Lorne Michaels has called one of the top three actors to ever appear on the show. “I don’t know. I may go back to open up a canoe shop,” she fired back. According to her IMDB page, Wiig has a number of movies in the can, including vocal work on “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” as well as roles in “The Comedian,” “Freezing People is Easy,” a re-make of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” “Imogene” and “Revenge for Jolly!” Though an unnamed insider told Us Weekly that Wiig, Sudeikis and Samberg are leaving at season’s end and that a pal said, “Kristen was talking about leaving a while ago … with her movie success, it’s no surprise,” a spokesperson for Wiig and Sudeikis squashed the talk. “There is no truth to this rumor on both Jason and Kristen’s behalf,” the spokesperson said. Lindsay Lohan to SNL: Anything Goes!

Lindsay Lohan has been on the receiving end of jokes from Saturday Night Live for years, and she’s ready to embrace that fact when she hosts the show this weekend. Rather than trying to keep her career downward spiral and brushes with the law off limits, Lohan has reportedly made it clear that nothing is out of bounds on SNL . Lindsay has been dying to do the show as a way to re-establish her career and reached out to creator / executive producer Lorne Michaels personally to make it happen. According to our sources, Lindsay is aware of her own absurdity and plans on using all the unpleasantness from the last couple of years as fodder for the show . Lohan wants to show she’s a good sport who’s “in on the joke.” It’s unclear what they have planned, but there could be any number of skits involving DUIs, alleged necklace heists, jail stints, mug shots … and on and on. Give a girl credit for being able to poke fun at herself at least. [Photo: WENN.com]
