Monica and her Laker hubby, Shannon Brown, tied the knot for the second time over the weekend and held the ceremony in Los Angeles. Monica, 35, and Shannon, 25 originally married last fall in a small, private ceremony but this time, they decided to do it big and wed in front of hundreds of their closest friends and family. Among the attendees of the wedding included Ciara, Nelly, Ashanti, Lala and Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, and Derek Fisher. Jermaine Dupri provided the tunes for the night. Monica wore a Stephane Rolland gown for the ceremony while the Atlanta singer’s sons, Rocko and Romelo, arrived to the ceremony by horse and carriage! Magic Johnson doesn’t appreciate this year’s Lakers squad tarnishing his legacy. And he made it clear recently who he thought was responsible for the team’s less than stellar performance. But even though he specifically called out Lamar Odom and Ron Artest for “not being hungry enough,” he sees other player flaws as well. The Lakers are publicly expressing optimism about coming back from an 0-3 deficit in their Western Conference semifinal series against the Dallas Mavericks. But don’t count Magic Johnsonas one of them. The Lakers great argued as an ESPN NBA analyst Saturday that the Lakers, and owner Jerry Buss, will need to make serious changes to their veteran-heavy roster during the off-season. Johnson’s most pointed suggestion involved the Lakers’ trading for Dwight Howard, even if it means giving up Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol or Lamar Odom. “Dr. Buss has a lot of work to do,” said Johnson. “He’s probably going to have to blow this team up after the season if the Lakers lose this series because you have to come back with some fresh faces. You have to pick between the two big men with which one you keep and then you trade the other one.” Johnson didn’t aim his criticism solely at the Lakers’ front line, arguing that everybody outside of Kobe Bryant should be considered trade bait in what will be an uncertain off-season. “The Lakers have two problems,” said Johnson. “They’re too slow and they have no athletes. This is an athletic league now. When you think about all the teams that are in the playoffs right now, they all can run fast and jump high. “Sometimes you can be together too long,” he continued. “This group has been probably together too long. Too bad the O.G. is really just blowing hot air: he sold his minority ownership in the Lakers so we doubt any of these young boys still getting NBA checks are losing sleep over Magic’s opinion. In this exclusive TheUrbanDaily interview, Phonte sheds a little light on where he’s at with the project. Phonte intends to drop the album on September 13th, which just happens to be the 6 year anniversary of Little Brother’s album, The Minstrel Show , which was the last album to feature 9th Wonder as a full-time member of the group. Now that 9th and Phonte have patched up their differences, Phonte also revealed that 9th will be handling the bulk of the production duties on the album! LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant, clearly no stranger to controversy, may find himself in some more hot water after footage was shot of him appearing to sling some homophobic slurs at an NBA referee during a Lakers, San Antonio match last night. According to TMZ , the incident occurred in the third quarter after Kobe got hit with a technical foul. Clearly angry, Kobe walks to his chair, punches it, and screams at the referee, Bennie Adams. Although you can’t hear the words he uses, he appears to mouth the words, “F**king f**got.” One of the announcers then comments, “You might wanna take the cameras off of him right now, for the children watching.” It is sadly not the first time recently that homophobia in relation to the NBA has been an issue. When Toronto Raptor guard Leandro Barbosa held the hand of teammate Reggie Evans in celebration of a big win, as the pair headed to the locker-room recently, it didn’t take long for a massive homophobic retaliation to ricochet across the internet. Instinct Magazine notes that the video of the teammates hand holding was uploaded to YouTube, but the ability to post comments had to be disabled after a torrent of juvenile, vile anti-gay messages started to accrue from sports fans. This outburst from someone who is supposedly a role model for fans the world over, probably isn’t going to do much to promote tolerance and acceptance in sport, so it seems like we still have a very long way to go in regards to changing the ignorance of some people’s thinking.
