In late March, Justin Bieber joined Ariana Grande on stage for a duet of her song “Love Me Harder.” But Bieber forgot some of the words and it didn't go very well. So at least Justin remembers every line in the following piece of footage, but it doesn't exactly hits its intended target, either. The video depicts Grande and Bieber separated by a wall for some reason, promoting an offer that allows fans who pre-order Bieber’s upcoming album to receive their recently-recorded remix of “ What Do You Mean? ” The offer is great and we're sure fans will take full advantage of it. But the attempts here by the singer to be funny? Let's just say Ariana and Justin are fortunate they don't tell jokes for a living.
If you needed further proof that’s a pretty effed-world we live in, look no further: According to TMZ the Love Ranch brothel where Lamar Odom nearly died from an overdose last week is experiencing a major surge in business thanks to all the free press. The weirdest part? Customers are shelling out big bucks to see the room where Odom was found unconscious and covered in blood. Guests who already staying and spending money at the Ranch can drop an extra $500 for a glance at the VIP suite where Odom nearly lost his life. Even weirder, many Love Ranch are paying top dollar to sleep in the room and there’s a one-month waiting to list to stay in “the Lamar suite. Prior to Odom’s near death experience, the Ranch attracted about 20 men today. Owner Dennis Hof says that in the past week that number has more than tripled. Many have been critical about the way Hof seems to milking the incident for free publicity. Hof bragged about telling the Kardashians to “go to hell” during an appearance on Nancy Grace’s talk show. In response, reps for Khloe politely asked Hof to shut the hell up , but it looks like the brothel owner and former star of the HBO reality series Cat House, plans to go right on cashing in on this tragedy. It’s been almost two days Lamar Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel, and sadly, the 35-year-old former NBA star has shown no signs of improvement. Though they’ve reportedly assembled in Las Vegas to be by his side as he clings to life, the Kardashian-Jenner family has mostly remained quiet on the topic of Odom’s apparent overdose. In fact, the family has taken to social media only to post brief words of affection for Khloe’s estranged husband. Yesterday, Kendall Jenner paid tribute to Lamar with a tweet reading simply, “Please don’t go.” Moments ago, Kylie Jenner followed suit by posting the photo below, along with a touching caption: “Let’s dance again together soon,” Kylie wrote. “Prayers up for Lamar please.” Though Khloe and Lamar separated in 2013, several members of the Kardashian clan have remained close to Odom. Lamar lost his mother at a young age and only recently reconciled with his heroin addict father, who abandoned his family while Lamar was still a child. Kris Jenner quickly became a surrogate mother figure to Lamar, and he formed close relationships with several of Khloe’s siblings, particularly her brother, Rob Kardashian. It was recently revealed that Khloe and Lamar might still be legally married , and she may be in the position of making important medical and legal decisions on behalf of her troubled ex. Black Children Are Being Adopted At Discount Rates To “Fix” Racist Foster Care System Adoptee and HuffPost writer, Deshanne Stokes is reminding every one of the glaring reality of racism in adoption. Today there are twice the amount of black children in out of home foster care situations, than there are being cared for in homes with families. This is no coincidence, institutional racism plays a role. SMH. This is was Deshanne Stokes had to say about agencies trying to price black children at discounts in order to pair them with safe foster families.: According to the Administration for Children and Families, more than half of the children entering the foster care system in 2013 were children of color. The Children’s Bureau reports that African American and Native American children are present at double the rate in out-of-home foster care as they are in the general U.S. population. Findings from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) further reveal that the average length of stay in foster care for African American children in 2012 was 29 months, a full 7 months (32 percent) longer than the 22-month length of stay of average child in foster care. Clearly, institutionalized racism remains alive and well in America. And it’s hurting our nation’s children. Many adoption agencies try to combat such institutionalized racism. A recent piece on NPR, for example, revealed how a Minnesota couple went to an adoption agency and found that the agency’s fee structure was based on children’s racial background, a practice that is common, though not often talked about. Non-white children, they were told, were harder to place in adoptive homes, and so, as an incentive, prospective parents could adopt children of African American decent at a reduced cost. Adopting a Caucasian child cost $35,000 while an African American child might cost only $18,000. Even as a well-intentioned attempt to combat racial disparities, such practices can send a dangerous message about the valuation of human life. It suggests that someone who looks like me is inherently more valuable, and should be seen as more valuable, than someone who does not. I shudder to think about the impact on a child or adult to learn they were adopted at a “discount” rate. SMH at their being a disparity in enthusiasm towards adopting black children. “There’s white stuff coming out of his mouth.” Police Play Love Ranch Employees’ Desperate 911 Calls To Save Lamar Odom’s Life The former NBA star was found unconscious at Love Ranch South, a Nevada brothel, by two of their employees after partying for at least three days. When alerted the staff promptly called 911. The actual 911 call has surfaced and reveals that Lamar was foaming at the mouth and bleeding out his nose after he lost consciousnesses. Lamar Odom was never supposed to amount to anything. Lamar Odom’s father was a crackhead. His mother died of colon cancer when he was 12. He was bounced around from high school to high school before getting a basketball scholarship that he eventually lost during his freshman year. Even in the NBA, he failed drug tests and had his career stymied by the fact he was drafted by the Clippers. His son died at six-and-a-half months while the family was at an aunt’s funeral, then he was robbed a gun point. Lamar Odom should not have succeeded. He should have been a guy who had a cup of coffee in the league before losing it all. But Odom overcame the odds and became a key component to a two-time NBA championship team. At one point, he was a top-tier all-around basketball player, former sixth-man of the year and a FIBA gold medalist. Lamar Odom’s career and life up until a few years ago was a story about perseverance and surviving when society gave him no incentive to flourish. Then things fell apart. I don’t know if Lamar Odom battled demons from his past, caved under the weight of reality TV and his relationship to “America’s First Family” *insert wanking motion* or a combination of factors we don’t even know about. But somewhere along the line, addiction, depression and erratic behavior took over. He was dismissed from NBA teams and eventually exiled from the NBA – his life in shambles before our eyes. Lamar Odom was allegedly found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel last night and is in dire straits as we speak. I know this because I saw an article on Twitter with the headline that said “Khloe Kardashian’s Ex-Husband, Lamar Odom, Is Fighting For His Life.” Beyond the tragedy of Lamar Odom’s current situation rests the fact that Kardashian worship has relegated him to an accessory. A big, Black purse or set of heels whose tragedy is only seen through the lens of their narrative. Lamar Odom isn’t a former basketball player, survivor and all-around great guy according to every one of his peer’s accounts. He’s a Kardashian storyline – literally – as it’s been reported that the Kardashians are at his hospital with a camera crew at their side. Whether true or not, the fact that story is believable tells us enough about the Kardashians. But more importantly, this is where disregard for Black Lives intersects with worshipping a family that’s done nothing to deserve it. Cosmopolitan called the Kardashian’s America’s First Family despite the fact there’s an actual First Family that’s successful and worth looking up to. The Kardashians have been erasers and poachers of Blackness since their inception into mainstream America. They’ve co-opted Black shapes and are somehow the standard for physical beauty. They’ve co-opted the hairstyles. They’ve married and had relationships with any number of Black men they can find in order to accentuate their brand. And now, they’re using an entire Black Life to further their story – even if it means diminishing the value of that life to nothing more than a chapter in Khloe Kardashian’s story. If they did bring cameras to Lamar Odom’s possible death bed and if they do go forward with using these episodes for TV, that should be the end of anyone pretending like they have any worth to society. But this isn’t about the Kardashians. This story is about Lamar Odom. A man who became a millionaire despite America’s disregard for his family. A man who became great when every statistic would indicate that he was destined to be a failure. So when I pray, I’ll be praying for Lamar Odom.
