Source: MARCO LONGARI / Getty While the current commander-in-chief panhandles for Russia, former President Barack Obama travelled to South Africa to commemorate the 100th birthday of  Nelson Mandela , one of his greatest inspirations. Obama travelled to Africa on Sunday where he first stopped in Kenya, the birthplace of his father. It is his first visit to Africa since leaving office in 2017. He delivered the speech on Tuesday a day before the official commemoration at the 16th annual Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture. During his speech, he warned against “strongman politics,” emphasized need for global diplomacy,  and delivered a message of hope directed at the youth. He began his speech recalling Mandela and his legacy. Obama derived many of his beliefs from Mandela–a man who changed the course of history as the first Black president of South Africa. Their lives, uniquely parallel, were not lost on the committee who asked Obama to speak at the conference. Prior to Obama’s speech Mandela’s wife, Graça Machel , told the crowd of more than 15,000 people that Obama is one of the “finest global leaders of the 21st century” and a “youthful symbol of transformative leadership.” Former Pres. Kylie Jenner: Accused of Child Abuse! For Real!

Kylie Jenner is probably a decent mom, right? We really haven’t seen much of her parenting in action, or any of it, really. Aside from a few selfies with Stormi and that admittedly precious video she shared about her pregnancy , she’s been pretty private about everything. But there are some things you just can’t help but notice, certain choices that Kylie’s been making as a mother. And one of those recent choices has gotten a lot of people riled up. Kylie was kind enough to share a new video and photo of Stormi earlier this week, and once you get over how precious that little baby is , you notice something. She’s got her ears pierced! She looks adorable, just like always , but people always have very strong feelings about piercing a baby’s ears. Those people were not shy in expressing their dismay. “Kylie Jenner’s baby has her ears pierced and I have lost every bit of respect I had for that girl that should be illegal,” one person tweeted. Another told her that she should “be ashamed” of herself, and that “this is utterly disgraceful.” “I think it’s f-cking awful that she’s pierced her baby’s ears as a fashion statement,” someone in Instagram complained, and another agreed, saying “I really don’t understand how people can put holes in their babies.” Because, as a Twitter user argued, “They’re kids for f-cks sake, why put them through unnecessary pain?” “Sorry but no just no,” yet another person declared. “Piercing a 5 month old childs ears is NOT cute it is called CHILD ABUSE. Shows that you are NOT fit to be a parent and should be investigated.” So … that’s a lot, right? We can probably all agree that getting a baby’s ears pierced isn’t actually child abuse, let’s start there. Sure, you may not agree with the idea, and you may even be outspoken about it like some of these people, but it’s not on the same level as actual abuse, at all. And, as plenty of people pointed out, getting your kid’s ears pierced at such a young age is normal for many, many people. “Y’all really mad at Kylie for getting her baby’s ears pierced?” one of those people asked. “That’s the first thing poc do after cutting the cord.” “I just read ppl complaining abt kylie jenner getting her 6month year old baby’s ears pierced and i feel like they’re all white,” another said. “Like pls i got mine done out of the womb.” From the point of view of a former baby in Stormi’s position, “I got mine pierced at 9 months and I PROMISE, I have never felt like my parents took my autonomy away from me. It’s truly not that serious.” And then, in one particularly strong argument, someone tweeted “People are upset Kylie Jenner pierced her 5 month old daughter’s ears. Wait until they find out what some people do to their sons penis 2-3 weeks after birth!” So maybe we can give Kylie a break on this one, just this once? Elon Musk Vows On Twitter To Pay For Home Water Filters For Flint Residents

The water from the lake was highly corrosive causing hazardous levels of lead to link into Flint’s water supply poisoning its residents. The residents fought tooth and nail just recognize the problem and bring national attention to the crisis. Despite claims of the water being safe to drink may residents still don’t trust the city’s drinking water. After being challenged on Twitter, Tesla CEO Elon Musk says he is willing to help those still suffering in Flint. Please consider this a commitment that I will fund fixing the water in any house in Flint that has water contamination above FDA levels. No kidding. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 11, 2018 Musk fresh off being in the news for his submarine idea to help the now rescued Thai soccer team trapped in a cave promised in a Tweet: “Please consider this a commitment that I will fund fixing the water in any house in Flint that has water contamination above FDA levels. No kidding.” Michigan’s state government recently ended a program that supplied a free bottled water to residents, despite the fact, there are still residents complaining of unusable water. Musk’s help whether or not its a PR move would definitely be more than welcomed by the people of Flint. Musk also stated in related tweets that “Most houses in Flint have safe water, but they’ve lost faith in govt test results. Some houses are still outliers,” and encouraged those who feel their water is still bad to share their test results and he “will send someone to install a water filter.” He also promised to create a specific email, flint@x.com when he has an opportunity to do so when he returns from China. Woman Loses Toes After Fish Pedicure You’ll probably think twice before letting some little fish nibble on your heel after this… A woman has reportedly lost all her toenails after indulging in a “fish pedicure.” You’ve probably seen these while on vacation to tropical locations, but they are still in practice in some areas of the states. If you’re unfamiliar, the pedicure involves allowing tiny fish known as “doctor fish” to nibble at the dead human skin residing on the foot. The fish naturally do this when there is no plankton present. According to a report from dermatologist Shari Lipner via NYDN , the process isn’t the most sanitary, as the tanks are near impossible to clean fully between customers and the same fish nibble on different customers, increasing the probability of spreading bacteria between individual uses. Apparently, this is what occurred with the unnamed woman in the report. About a month after receiving her pedicure, she noticed her toenails separating from her foot. Her dermatologist determined that she was suffering from onychomadesis, a condition in which the nail plates separate from the skin. This is the first known case of the condition caused by fish pedicures. The fish pedicure is banned in 10 states and several European countries. If you’re o vacay and need to tend to your toes…maybe look into doing it the old-fashioned way. Getty
