Lil Boosie Indicted For First-Degree Murder

Rapper is already in jail for violating probation. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Boosie (file) Photo: Getty Images Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rapper Lil Boosie was indicted on a first-degree murder charge by a grand jury Thursday (June 17), stemming from an incident in October that left one man dead. Two other men, Michael Louding and Adrian Pittman, were also indicted on similar charges, according to a Louisiana CBS News affiliate WAFB . The Trill Entertainment rapper and his associations were indicted for multiple drug-possession charges as well. Police records say Boosie and the two men fired shots into the home of Terry Boyd, then 35. The rapper allegedly was in possession of ecstasy, codeine and marijuana. All three men were charged with conspiracy for their part in the act, police say. A district attorney said the death penalty was not out of the question. Currently, Boosie is in jail after a judge ordered him to prison for violating his probation. In November, the rapper was immediately taken into custody after authorities discovered Boosie was leaving his house during home confinement. Prior to his imprisonment, the rapper was facing jail time after he reached a plea deal on a previous drug rap. Boosie was sentenced to two years in jail in September; his agreement helped him avoid facing upward of 10 years behind bars after his original sentence was suspended. “I’m ready to get this behind me,” Boosie told the judge at the time, just a week before he was scheduled to go to trial. Boosie was in the midst of releasing his latest album, Superbad: The Return of Boosie Bad Azz, during his last set of legal troubles. At the time, he thought he would only be going away for a few months. “I gotta go away for, like, 10 months to a year,” Boosie told MTV News in October last year. “It’s just a minor setback for a major comeback. I was gonna take ’em to trial, but I’m not gonna take them to trial. They offered me a deal. In Louisiana, you can’t really win, bruh. So I’m gonna do my year, come back home, step it up even more. I leave on November 9.” Related Artists Lil Boosie

Oil Spill Forces Animals To Flee To Shallow Water Off Coast, Scientists Warn Of ‘Mass Die-Off’

Dolphins and sharks are showing up in surprisingly shallow water just off the Florida coast. Mullets, crabs, rays and small fish congregate by the thousands off an Alabama pier. Birds covered in oil are crawling deep into marshes, never to be seen again. Marine scientists studying the effects of the BP disaster are seeing some strange phenomena. Fish and other wildlife seem to be fleeing the oil out in the Gulf and clustering in cleaner waters along the coast in a trend that some researchers see as a potentially troubling sign. The animals' presence close to shore means their usual habitat is badly polluted, and the crowding could result in mass die-offs as fish run out of oxygen. Also, the animals could easily get devoured by predators. “A parallel would be: Why are the wildlife running to the edge of a forest on fire? There will be a lot of fish, sharks, turtles trying to get out of this water they detect is not suitable,” said Larry Crowder, a Duke University marine biologist. The nearly two-month-old oil spill has created an environmental catastrophe unparalleled in U.S. history as tens of millions of gallons of have spewed into the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem. Scientists are seeing some unusual things as they try to understand the effects on thousands of species of marine life. Day by day, scientists in boats tally up dead birds, sea turtles and other animals, but the toll is surprisingly small given the size of the disaster. The latest figures show that 783 birds, 353 turtles and 41 mammals have died – numbers that pale in comparison to what happened after the Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska in 1989, when 250,000 birds and 2,800 otters are believed to have died. Researchers say there are several reasons for the relatively small death toll: The vast nature of the spill means scientists are able to locate only a small fraction of the dead animals. Many will never be found after sinking to the bottom of the sea or getting scavenged by other marine life. And large numbers of birds are meeting their deaths deep in the Louisiana marshes where they seek refuge from the onslaught of oil. “That is their understanding of how to protect themselves,” said Doug Zimmer, spokesman for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. BP Cleanup Crews, in Louisiana, Have Trampled Pelican Nests and Eggs, And Have Killed Newly-Hatched Chicks By Crushing Them – Graphic Photo

By the CNN Wire Staff June 16, 2010 9:55 a.m. EDT Photo: The nesting grounds of brown pelicans and other birds have been affected, the Plaquemines Parish president says. Venice, Louisiana (CNN) — Crews cleaning up the oil in one Louisiana parish have trampled the nests and eggs of birds including the brown pelican, which came off the endangered species list last year, the head of the parish said Wednesday. Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser said the parish doesn't want to turn away contractors, but he called for more care when crews work in the sensitive wetlands. He said officials recently found broken eggs and crushed chicks on Queen Bess Island, near Grand Isle. Plastic bags containing snare boom were “recklessly placed” around the island without consideration for wildlife. In one picture released by the parish, a plastic bag was on top of a nest containing broken speckled eggs. Dozens of people, including experienced veterinarians, have been going to the area from all over the country to help with the affected wildlife, the parish said. Nungesser met with the Humane Society of the United States and asked it to work with contractors who are cleaning the birds to come up with a better way to enlist the help of volunteers, the parish said. “We want to improve our comfort level of knowing someone is out there looking for these birds and other animals — doing all they can to save them,” Nungesser said on the parish website. “The people BP sent out to clean up oil trampled the nesting grounds of brown pelicans and other birds,” he said. “Pelicans just came off the endangered species list in November of last year. They already have the oil affecting their population during their reproduction time, now we have the so-called clean up crews stomping eggs. “The lack of urgency and general disregard for Louisiana's wetlands and wildlife is enough to make you sick,” he said. added by: EthicalVegan

Photographers Capture "Fragile" Louisiana

Image credit: Linda Holllinger Debbie Fleming Caffery is an award winning photographer who holds yearly photography workshops in Louisiana for small groups of artists who are keen on further developing their eye and vision in an extraordinary environment. Looking at the work of Caffery is always a delight and a surprise in that she seemingly never repeats herself. This year I asked to her to have the participating photographers take images that were “fragile.” I thought it would be interesting to see what came back. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

BP Spill As Partisan Issue

It’s hard to cast the Gulf of Mexico oil spill in anything resembling a positive light, but some Republican operatives are apparently pretty chuffed about the media coverage of the debacle, according to emails from inside GOP circles that accidentally found their way to the Huffington Post.

Big Oil Is Still Boss

By Bill Boyarsky A lot of pundits want President Barack Obama to turn terrible tempered in his handling of the Gulf of Mexico disaster. These critics ignore the real issue—the death grip the oil industry has on Washington and the state capitals of oil-producing states.
