Maino, Lloyd Banks, Diplomats capo Jim Jones, Consequence, the Outlawz and Reek Da Villain all made their way onto the “RFL” couch to toast to MTV News’ premier hip-hop show. Reek set things off with a spirited “RapFix”-themed freestyle, making way for the show’s first guest Maino, who chopped it up with Sway about his favorite show moments. The hard-nosed Brooklyn rapper recounted some of his more memorable ones, including Ja Rule appearing just before he turned himself in for his jail bid, and Nicki Minaj’s and Lil Kim’s separate appearances. G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks came in to rep for Queens, New York, and clued Sway in on his upcoming mixtape Cold Corner 2. Banks also revealed that after dropping his H.F.M.2 (Hunger For More 2) last year, he has satisfied his contractual commitment to EMI, making him a G-Unit free agent once again. When he first appeared on “RapFix Live” back in May, Consequence made headlines , going into detail about his falling-out with former friend Kanye West. This time, the Queens MC turned the tables and revealed that he has since spoken to ‘Ye and the feud is over. After a heated email exchange between the two, ‘Quence claimed that West eventually told the ex-G.O.O.D. Music artist that he “loves” him. Actor died in Sydney on Sunday after battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. By Gil Kaufman Andy Whitfield Photo: FilmMagic Andy Whitfield, star of the Starz Entertainment sword-and-sandal series “Spartacus,” died in Australia on Sunday at the age of 39. The muscled actor succumbed to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of blood cancer with which he was diagnosed in March 2010, according to The New York Times. Whitfield was born in Wales, but made his home in Australia, where he first came to attention after stints in a number TV shows, including “All Saints” and “Packed to the Rafters.” The sometime model had his biggest breakthrough, though, when he was cast in the Starz series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” in which he played the title role of a soldier who leads a rebellion against the Roman Empire. The series was an instant hit thanks to his turn in the classic role that had previously been filled by such screen icons as Kirk Douglas. Look back when Hollywood Crush named Andy Whitfield a Hump Day Hottie last year. After his diagnosis last March, Whitfield began to undergo treatment in New Zealand, which led to the delay of the second season of the show and the filming of a six-part prequel, “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena,” for which he provided some voiceover work. He was initially declared cancer-free a few months after treatment, but suffered a relapse later in the year that forced him to abandon the role, which was recast. His wife, Vashti, issued a statement on Sunday confirming his death. “On a beautiful sunny Sydney morning, surrounded by his family, in the arms of his love wife, our beautiful young warrior Andy Whitfield lost his 18-month battle with lymphoma cancer … he passed peacefully surrounded by love,” the statement said. “Thank you to all his fans whose love and support have helped carry him to this point. He will be remembered as the inspiring, courageous and gentle man, father and husband he was.” The cable network Whitfield called home also released a statement on his passing. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Andy Whitfield,” said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht. “We were fortunate to have worked with Andy in ‘Spartacus’ and came to know that the man who played a champion on-screen was also a champion in his own life. Andy was an inspiration to all of us as he faced this very personal battle with courage, strength and grace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and fans.”
On Sway’s Shade 45 radio show, Baby shoots down rumors that Cash Money bought up Weezy’s albums to ensure a big debut. The #1 Stunna spoke with MTV News’ Sway Calloway on his Shade 45 “Sway in the Morning” radio show about Weezy’s #1 album and 964,000 copies sold. “People doin’ different numbers,” Birdman said of the initial predictions, which had Wayne selling more than a million. “But this comes from Billboard. To me, that’s a million; 964, we right there, so it’s cool. We’ll just keep grinding, I guess.” Baby also touched on the Internet rumors that he and Cash Money purchased copies of Tha Carter IV to ensure a mega-sales debut. “Nah, man, that really don’t make no sense. Why would we do that?” Birdman asked. “I press and distribute ’em. Ain’t no need for me to buy ’em. That’s hustling backwards; we ain’t in it for that. I ain’t ever been a part of that type of scheme to be buyin’ records. We don’t do that, homey. We be working too hard to be — that don’t go with what we do. We truly what we do. We’re real about what we do, we work hard every day at it, and we work for the people. That’s what we do music for: for people. And we appreciate the love they give us back. But no such thing as me buying no CDs. I wouldn’t even play it like that.” After being pressed by Sway, the Cash Money CEO estimated that the company made about $10 per album sold, but the exact number remains to be seen. Regardless, Birdman insists that the Cash Money/ Young Money camp is back to work and focusing on Drake’s sophomore album, Take Care, which is set to be released October 24.
