Kings Of Leon Lead Singer Caleb Followill Engaged

Rep confirms Followill’s engagement to Lily Aldridge, who appeared in the band’s ‘Use Somebody’ video. By Jocelyn Vena Caleb Followill and Lily Aldridge Photo: WireImage It’s a sad day for the female fans of Kings Of Leon . Lead singer Caleb Followill is officially one step closer to being a married man. It seems he put a ring on it when he asked his girlfriend of two years, Lily Aldridge, to marry him. His rep confirmed the engagement to People.com . Aldridge appeared in the band’s “Use Somebody” music video. Followill is the latest Kings of Leon member to make plans to get hitched. Bandmate Nathan Followill got married last November to singer Jessie Baylin in an outdoor ceremony in Brentwood, Tennessee. While it appears that Caleb has been relatively mum about his love life, Nathan has been candid about the band’s less-than-discerning views on love prior to their committed relationships. “I think it definitely prepared us for this. I mean, I don’t think just anyone could handle being away from home for 10 months out of the year, but you know, it kind of helped us not to attach ourselves to a certain place for too long because we knew we were going to have to up and leave. So early on in our career it was perfect for the guiltless sex with the groupies, but now that we all have relationships, it’s a little tough,” he said, according to AZCentral.com . The singer reveals follow-up to 2009’s Graffiti By Mawuse Ziegbe Chris Brown Photo: Getty Images Chris Brown has had some very public personal struggles but the Virginia crooner isn’t shying away from the spotlight on his next album. The singer has announced that the title of his follow-up to 2009’s Graffiti will be Fame. “I’m putting out singles a lot right now, so everything’s coming together. But I’m definitely going to say this and plug it quick. The name of my album is Fame so make sure you check it out,” Brown said when he recently played radio host on 102.3 The Beat in Austin, Texas. According to some reports , the title references a “Fame” tattoo the singer sports on his arm. The singer also urged fans to look out for the singles “Yeah 3X,” a high-energy track infused with chirpy techno rhythms, and “Calypso” which he tweeted about in early September. “I’m trying to get everything together, figure out what I’m [going to] do with the album,” he explained. Brown has been making a lot of moves on the music scene in recently. His single with Young Money spitter Tyga, “Deuces,” topped the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart. He has also appeared on Chicago O.G. Twista’s “Make a Movie” and revamped Nicki Minaj’s “Your Love.” Breezy’s “Deuces” collaborator Kevin McCall recently dished about some of the singer’s new songs, including the “Rest of My Life” and “Another You,” in which the R&B star tries out another musical direction. “We’re going to keep working on new stuff from here. That kid’s got a lot of records so it’s tough picking out cuts. It’s really new right now,” McCall said. “The song ‘Another You’ is country. It’s like Hootie and the Blowfish, so it should be something different, something new and fresh.” Are you looking forward to Chris Brown’s new music? Let us know in the comments below! Kid Cudi Admits Past Cocaine Use

‘I wasn’t prepared for a ’60 Minutes’ interview every time,’ Cudi tells Complex of using drugs to cope with fame. By Steven Roberts Kid Cudi Photo: MTV News Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager remains one of this year’s most anticipated albums. But Cudi recently made headlines for other reasons, when he was arrested in June on charges of felony criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance. Cudi opens up about his drug use, the arrest and more in a new magazine cover story. “People wanted to know a lot about my personal life and I wasn’t prepared for a “60 Minutes” interview every time,” Cudi told Complex. “Doing bumps [of cocaine], I was able to get through the day, but then I would smoke weed to calm me down — it was the only way I could get through the day without people noticing I was doing it.” Cudi has made no secret about his love of marijuana, but the rapper explained in the magazine’s October/November issue that he started using cocaine to help him get through interviews. While he claims he never thought it was a problem, he admitted his coke use was like “high-fiving death a couple of times.” It took a lot for him to open up about the substance abuse on his upcoming new album, but he wanted to be candid with fans. “I don’t feel like I need to explain myself to anyone besides the fans. My fans don’t believe sh– until they hear me say it, and those are true Kid Cudi fans. I want them to know the story.” Cudi revealed that he had a revelation as he was walked out of court. “It was really just like, ‘Man, you got it f—ing going on, and you were about to piss it all away for some bullsh–.’ Everywhere I go, people be looking at me like I’m some type of f—ing crackhead now. Nobody wants to have their f—ing name attached to a maniac, to a f—-up, so everyone distances themselves. Cudi also credited the birth of his daughter with helping him to turn things around. “She’s my best friend and she doesn’t even know it. That’s why I always told myself I’m going to make these songs for my kids, so they can follow along and know my story, if something was ever to happen to me.” The follow-up to Cudi’s debut will be a darker effort because it reflects where his life was at the time. When MTV News caught up with Cudi on the VMA White Carpet, he talked a little more about what he set out to do on Mr. Rager. “With Mr. Rager, I kind of wanted to try something different with the writing this time,” Cudi said. “It’s just me kind of telling my story, but in a different format, in a different way, just writing it in a poetic manner. I wanted to do more poetic raps, whether it’s just rhymes or stuff like that or sometimes just repeating things just to get certain lines across, just to get people thinking.” What do you think of Cudi’s admissions about his drug use? Young Money’s Shanell Says Street Single Is For ‘Boss’ Chicks

‘The way I write my love songs comes out different,’ R&B upstart says of penning Nicki Minaj-assisted ‘Cupid’s Got a Gun.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Shanell Photo: Jason LaVeris/ Getty Images Young Money’s Shanell has a voice as sweet as Red Velvet cake, but the singer/songwriter isn’t your average R&B pop tart. On her new single “Cupid’s Got a Gun” featuring Nicki Minaj, she’s as sharp with her lyrics as her boss Lil Wayne is with his rhymes. Shanell says the song represents the “tough skin” type of girls. “Me and my homegirl Mika Means were actually in the studio and we were coming up with stuff and we started that song, “Cupid’s Got a Gun,” Shanell told MTV News this week. “It’s a love song, but it’s a love song told in a different way. I’m not really a mushy person, so I express my emotions, it’s like, instead of saying I love you, it’s I f—ing love you. So the way I write my love songs comes out different. And it’s this energy that I felt that it needed, ’cause I consider myself a boss type of chick and I got a tough skin. I thought Nicki would be perfect to be on this record to exemplify that boss type of energy. I played it for her and she jumped right on it.” The song is the first effort from her forthcoming debut album. According to Shanell, “Cupid’s Got a Gun” wasn’t slated to be the first single but after it leaked to the Web earlier this month it drew a strong response. As a result, she and her team are prepping to work the song as a street single to tease the upcoming LP. She hopes to drop that full-length for the masses next summer. Meanwhile, she has her hand in other projects like her gig as the face clothing line Married to the Mob’s fall collection. The singer has also written a video treatment for “Cupid’s” that she described as a combination of “Smooth Criminal” and the movies “Sin City” and “Kill Bill.” “As a writer, there’s a picture in my head and I’m basically writing a story to the pictures that flash in my head,” Shanell explained. “So I always had the visual for the video in my head. But once we got Nicki on it, I thought, Oh, [those three as a mix would work]. I’ve written it out and I’m looking for a director now.” Are you looking forward to seeing the collaboration from Young Money’s first ladies? Tell us in the comments! Trey Songz/Drake Album May Be Years In The Making

‘It’s all about when our career paths make the best sense to do that,’ Songz says. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Trey Songz Photo: MTV News Trey Songz and Drake have come together numerous times to work on hits for both the Virginia native’s albums and the Toronto lyricist’s mixtapes. But when exactly are the two going to make a joint project together? According to Trey Songz, a collaborative album between the two may not see the light of day anytime soon. “Drake had to put his first album out first,” Trey Songz explained to MTV News. ” Thank Me Later has done amazing, and I’m proud of him for that album. We’ll continue to work together and that [collaborative album] may not happen for years. But I think the thing with us, we continue to make music together and we do that organically. We’re friends outside of music so making music for us is easy. It’s all about when our career paths make the best sense to do that.” In the meantime, Trey Songz is promoting his recently released Passion, Pleasure & Pain and Drake is putting the final touches on his R&B mixtape, tentatively set for release next month. As a successful R&B singer who also raps, Trey Songz had some advice for his friend Drake, a rapper who also sings, regarding his project. He suggested the “Find Your Love” star keep track of which songs on the project are best to sing live. “Drake’s a great writer, has a great voice and makes great songs,” Trey Songz said. “The advice I would give him in making that mixtape is to make sure that he can perform those songs, because people will want to hear them.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Trey Songz Related Artists Trey Songz Drake

What Is Taylor Swift’s Post-VMA Plan?

Following her ‘Innocent’ VMA performance, singer is gearing up for the release of her third album, Speak Now. By James Dinh Taylor Swift performs at the 2010 VMAs Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Fresh off the heals of her much-talked-about performance at the 2010 Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift is about to take the rest of the year by storm after a relatively low-key summer. The 20-year-old is gearing up for the release of her new album, Speak Now . And if “Innocent,” the song she debuted at Sunday’s VMAs , is any indication of her upcoming material, Swift scorners should beware: She may be singing about you. “For me, I write everything that I live, so you’ve got to give yourself a little bit of time to live a lot of things so you can write about a lot of things. And my only option is to write about what I’ve been through and what I’ve lived,” Swift told fans of her new album. “Each song is a different confession to a different person, and I’m very excited for you to hear them.” The album may not be out until October 25, but the singer has already given fans a taste of her new music with the release of the first single, “Mine,” which many have said conquers a more mature lyrical vision. The songstress chose Roman White (who also directed “You Belong With Me” and “Fifteen”) to helm direction for the clip, which depicts Swift and her lover from their first interaction through their marriage. The song, which the singer says is about “finding someone who would make you believe in love and realize that it could work out,” had a bright start due to her ever-dependable fanbase. In early August, “Mine” made history as the singer became only the second female artist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart to debut multiple songs (“Mine” and “Today Was a Fairy Tale”) in the top five within a one-year time frame. But the songstress hasn’t just been working on her album. Swift also made time this past year for some other important priorities. During the days of immediate relief for the catastrophic Nashville floods , the country superstar helped her hometown by donating $500,000 and later performing as part of the Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery charity concert. “Being at home during the storm, I honestly could not believe what was happening to the city and the people I love so dearly,” Swift wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. “Nashville is my home and the reason why I get to do what I love. I have always been proud to be a Nashvillian, but especially now, seeing the love that runs through this city when there are people in crisis.” Despite her role in the movie “Valentine’s Day,” Swift told MTV News earlier this year that she’s staying clear of the acting gigs for now and remains focused on her music, saying, “I’m not making movies right now. I’m making music. That’s always been my number-one love.” One question many ponder is whether or not the teen sensation will be able to match the sales and critical reception of 2008’s Grammy-winning album Fearless. Some have even predicted that Swift may be the one to shake up the current state of the music industry with U.S. debut week sales of 1 million units. “It feels like if anybody can do it now, she could be the one,” Will Botwin, president/CEO of Red Light Management and ATO Records told Billboard . “She has the sales base and heat from the last few albums. And with all the amazing things she has going on, she is as likely as anybody to reach a million units, especially with the efforts of Big Machine and Universal behind her.” Until then, Swift will continue her media blitz for the release of Speak Now, which hits stores October 25. The songstress is reportedly set to hit the stage the same day of her album drop for a performance on the “Today” show and will also grace the November cover of Glamour magazine. Will.I.Am Responds To VMA ‘Blackface’ Criticism

MC says costume for Nicki Minaj pre-show performance wasn’t meant to be racially charged. By Mawuse Ziegbe Will.I.Am and Nicki Minaj perform during the 2010 VMA Preshow Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Nicki Minaj made a colorful MTV Video Music Awards debut when she rocked the pre-show in a bubblegum-pink wig and shimmery purple catsuit. But it was the hue of her onstage collaborator Will.I.Am ‘s getup that really got viewers talking. After Minaj and her dancers took the stage decked out in Jetsons-chic bodysuits for her smash “Your Love,” Will joined Minaj for a rendition of their cheery hip-pop track “Check It Out.” When the Black Eyed Peas frontman hopped onstage, ushered in by two plumes of thick white fog, the MC was rocking all-black everything, with the exception of a few Barbie-pink accents, including fingerless gloves, a shiny midnight-colored plastic hairpiece and jet-black face paint. Apparently some viewers took offense to the producer’s outfit, especially the dark makeup, which, to some fans, was reminiscent of the antiquated, racially charged practice of blackface. After fans blasted the rapper online, he took to Twitter to defend the look as artistic expression and not an embrace of the controversial maquillage typically used to lampoon African-Americans. “1st. just because I where all black including head mask as expression and emphasize my outfit, it shouldn’t be looked at as racial,” Will tweeted . “Let go of the past. there are far more important things 2 bark about. (Jobs, health, education) not a black man wearing all black everything.” The Peas frontman insisted the face paint was a harmless costume choice and that fans concerned with the image Will’s look projected should focus on larger issues. “Are you guys serious? my outfit set ‘black people back 100 yrs’ choose your twits wisely,” Will typed . “No education sets people back, no jobs, bad health.” What did you think of Will’s outfit? Were you offended by the look? Let us know in the comments. Lady Gaga Announces Born This Way Album At VMAs

She even sings the chorus of upcoming title track after winning Video of the Year. By Kara Warner Lady Gaga at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: WireImage Three cheers to Lady Gaga for following through with her promises! When Gaga picked up the biggest award at the Video Music Awards on Sunday night (September 12), Video of the Year for “Bad Romance,” she came through on an earlier vow that she would reveal the title for her new album if she won the coveted award. “I promised that if I won this, I would announce the name of my new album,” Gaga said, a bit overcome with the emotion of it all. “It’s called Born This Way. ” She then wowed the crowd even further by singing the chorus to the yet-unreleased title song. Gaga has teased a few details of the album , calling it the “absolute greatest work” she’s ever done. “I’m so excited about it,” Gaga said. “The message, the melodies, the direction, the meaning, what it will mean to my fans and what it will mean to me in my own life — it’s utter liberation. I’m on the quest to create the anthem for my generation for the next decade, so that’s what I’ve done.” The superstar also has yet to reveal what producers she’s working with. “I will never tell, because as soon as I tell, everyone starts working with them,” she said. “So all I can say is that nobody knows who they are. They’re all new.” Regarding potential guest artists who may or may not appear on the project, when we caught up with Akon on the VMA white carpet just before the show, he revealed a few details about his studio time with the Lady, but not any specifics about the sound. “Now that, that’s something I need her to describe,” Akon said. “If I describe it,” he began, mulling over whether e should reveal anything, then reconsidered: “No, no, just let her describe it, trust me.” He went on to say that Gaga is an icon, plain and simple. “She’s the biggest artist ever, next to MJ,” Akon said. “And that is in three years. So you can imagine 10 years from now, 20 years from now. She’s amazing, man.” What are you expecting from Gaga’s next album? Share your thoughts in the comments! Drake Reveals Main Concern On VMA Stage: ‘Don’t Fall’

‘Performing in dress shoes for the first time’ gave the ‘Fancy’ MC pre-performance jitters, he admits. By Shaheem Reid Drake at the 2010 Video Music Awards Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage LOS ANGELES — You can’t be the epitome of cool, and then land on your face or keister. Drake had a classy yet energetic and exciting performance Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards . While walking the white carpet leading up to the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Drake stopped to hug and talk to Justin Bieber, and then watched Nicki Minaj perform “Your Love,” and “Check It Out” with will.i.am. Drizzy revealed to MTV News the primary thought that would be going through his head before taking the VMA stage. “Don’t fall. That’s the biggest thing, especially since I’m performing in dress shoes for the first time tonight,” he said. “So ‘don’t fall’ is my biggest thing. Other than that, man, it’s just really about, the stage is so vast. You gotta come out, you gotta shine. You gotta own it and you gotta have fun. You gotta smile, you gotta make people at home feel that they are right there with you having fun. That’s it really. Other than that, I wanna see other people be great. Hopefully take home an award. I worked really hard on that video,” he said of “Find Your Love,” which was up for Best Male Video, along with the Best Hip-Hop Video nominated “Forever.” Drake didn’t win any Moonmen at the 2010 VMAs, but he won the crowd over with “Fancy.” Everyone stood on their feet for Drake, Mary J.
