Russell Brand: I Knew It was a Concussion Or Love

Getty Images Russell Brand fell hard and fast for Katy Perry — so much so that he actually thought his feelings were because something was physically wrong. The comedian joked that on his first date with the singer he certainly didn't feel like himself, so it was either love or he was basically about to die. Turns out he just found the girl of his dreams. Isn't that the cutest? Katy and Russell (Bauer Griffin) He said: “I immediately knew that it was either concussion or love. After that we went on a date and I was anxious and nervous on the date. Normally like on the first date I’m alright because it’s like it used to be to me… the only date. But this one I felt all anxious like my mind was awash with hallucinogens – peculiar! I had to hold on to surfaces. I thought it was either something wrong with my starter or love. So now we can narrow it down to concussion or food poisoning or love.” The 34-year-old actor, famed for his womanizing ways, also revealed his mother Barbara was pleased he finally got engaged because she didn’t think he would ever walk down the aisle. He added in an interview on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno : My mum was beginning to wonder if I would ever become married unless it was in some kind of perhaps, Mormon style group wedding, to perhaps a group of cheerleaders. We went back to England to my mum’s house in Essex. She was very well behaved and helped with the dishes. There was a bit where my mum spilt some gravy and I thought, ‘That’s good isn’t it? Normal down to earth conduct.’

Feature Release: Facebook “Like” and Popularity Improvements

Despite our recent DDoS attacks, we managed to squeak out a feature release for the site last Tuesday. Unfortunately, the DDoS attack resumed shortly after. “For the love of Pete, tell me what was in the release!!” While this wasn’t a huge release (those are being reserved for later this month), we were able to sneak a few improvements in that you may have already noticed. Here’s the rundown: Facebook “Like” Those of you with Facebook accounts will find that sharing Current TV with your friends just got easier. Have you met the Like button yet? Chances are, you’re already familiar with it on Facebook, and now we’ve implemented Like buttons on all of our content, too. Have you told your friends about Mariana Van Zeller’s recent Vanguard documentary “Missionaries of Hate” yet? Make sure your Facebook account is connected to your Current profile, then visit the “Missionaries of Hate” page and click the “Like” button to share it with your friends and family on Facebook. Go ahead. Try it out. I’ll wait for you here. Popularity and Voting Updates A few weeks ago, we discovered a few kinks in our popularity-scoring algorithm thanks to a few cases where stories were pushed onto the homepage to prove a point. Your message was heard loud and clear, and I’m happy to report that we’ve deployed a couple of notable tweaks to the system that should vastly improve things going forward. First, your red votes will factor in more prominently going forward. For those of you familiar with gaming mechanics, our voting system needed to be re-balanced to better account for red votes. No longer! So, fire up your voting fingers. Vote up. Vote down. Vote often. Your votes help determine what belongs in the popular stories feed, so if something looks old, out of place, or you just don’t think it’s as important as other stories out there, you know what to do. But wait, there’s more. We’ve received a plenty of feedback from our community about the ability to push stories into popularity based upon multiple comments from a very few people on a thread. It goes something like this: Person 1: I think this is great. Person 2: @Person 1 — I disagree! Person 1: @Person 2 – Well, I disagree with your disagreement! Person 2: @Person 1 – OK, but your disagreement with my disagreement is disagreeable to me! Person 1: @Person 2 – Sir or Madam, PLEASE validate my disagreement with you! This exchange continues on for 40-50 comments, and the next thing you know the story is ranked in the top 10 popular stories on the homepage. Not cool, right? Well, we’ve now implemented a new addition to comment scoring that will factor for this sort of thing. We would like to see stories containing a wide spanning discussion, with input from a variety of people via comments and votes, not just the back-and-forth between a select few. So there you have it! We are already working on the next couple releases which plan to include revamped profile pages, new activity streams, and Twitter integration. Stay tuned! added by: mario_a

Lady Gaga Offers ‘Alejandro’ Video Sneak Peek On ‘Larry King Live’

‘It is a celebration of my love and appreciation for the gay community,’ she tells King of the clip. By Kara Warner Lady Gaga in “Alejandro” music video Photo: Interscope Records While Lady Gaga’s interview with Larry King on his show Tuesday (June 1) covered many topics — her fame, her health, her fans, etc. — the clear highlight was the very brief snippet shown from her new video for “Alejandro,” the third single from her 2009 album The Fame Monster. The clip was directed by fashion photographer Steven Klein, whose credits include a short film for Madonna’s D&G sunglasses ad campaign and the Brangelina W photo shoot. Dressed in a silvery white button-down dress shirt with black suspenders (a cheeky nod to the veteran CNN newsman), dark round sunglasses and her hair in a short blond bob, Gaga told King via satellite from London’s O2 arena that the video has a “homoerotic military theme” and will premiere very soon. “It is a celebration of my love and appreciation for the gay community, my admiration of their bravery, their love for one another and their courage in their relationships.” The clip depicts Gaga’s trademark theatrical gloss. It appears to be all in black-and-white, with Gaga and her dancers doing variations on a sharp military march throughout. From what little we saw, it seemed reminiscent of Madonna’s “Vogue” video, but where Madonna’s movements were soft, fluid and more feminine, in Gaga’s “Alejandro,” the style is more cutting, masculine and militant. Speaking of the video’s aforementioned homoerotic theme, King asked Gaga why she thinks the gay community has embraced her so wholeheartedly and vice versa. “I can speak for myself in that my admiration comes from an incredibly steadfast and joyful courage and bravery they have for one another and their community,” she said. “To be gay and live openly in this society requires tremendous strength. … I admire it and envy it in some ways. It’s something that, as a woman, I don’t always wholeheartedly possess.” King then brought up her bisexuality and pointedly asked how she deals with it. “I deal with it just fine,” she said coyly. “I’m looking for love just like everyone else. … Right now, love is in the form of my fans. I’m passionately only serving them.” Gaga’s love for her fans prompted her to reveal to King that her highly anticipated next album will not be out this Christmas, as has been reported, because she wants “to give it some time.” While careful not to reveal too many juicy details, Gaga also said it will be an “anthem for the new decade” inspired by her newfound understanding and love for her fans. Are you looking forward to the full “Alejandro” video? What do you expect from the clip? Let us know in the comments! Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

Rain, Drake Score Summer Songs 2010 Write-In Votes

The latest tracks from Pitbull and Adam Lambert also get fan endorsements. By Kyle Anderson Drake in the “Find Your Love” video Democracy is not necessarily perfect, but sometimes it works. Such was the case of Lady Gaga’s victory in MTV News’ summer jams poll , which saw the fashion-forward pop star’s “Alejandro” snag nearly half of the almost 208,000 votes cast. And while Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” B.o.B’s “Airplanes,” Usher’s “OMG” and 3OH!3’s “First Kiss” all put up a good fight, they could not topple the monster that is Gaga. But there were also a handful of write-in votes that got our attention. When we proposed the poll, we asked if there were any other songs we’d left out that deserved recognition, and we received a handful of worthy nominees. Adam Lambert’s “If I Had You” picked up at least one endorsement, as did Drake’s “Find Your Love.” More than one reader went to bat for Pitbull’s new all-star jam “Watagatapitusberry,” and Jason DeRulo’s “Ridin’ Solo” also got some votes. But of all the wild cards, none got more attention than “Hip Song,” the latest single from Korean pop sensation Rain (of “Ninja Assassin” fame). The track — which appears in the trailer to the upcoming film “The Karate Kid” (not to be confused with Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith’s “Never Say Never” ) — got all manner of endorsements from die-hard fans who bombarded the comments section. “OMG the beat is fantastic!” wrote Yosh of “Hip Song.” “You can’t keep still when you hear it. Definitely summer music! Summer movie with summer music.” And commenter 1_2_bucklemyshoe added this endorsement of the track: “It makes all these others sound like lullaby baby songs.” What other songs should be nominated for summer jam 2010? A Gay in the Life: He’s my boyfriend, not my partner

I’ve called my boyfriend many things since he strolled into our first date almost six years ago. Late, first of all. He went to the wrong restaurant. But after that, dreamy. Next was friend, both with and without benefits. Lover, though usually in a funny kind of way, because that’s too cheesecake. Jerk. (I have a temper.) I’ve called him a slew of nicknames that’d make Cupid giggle (or ralph, depending on his own marital status at the moment) — and I’ve even called him my husband. Y’know, ring and legality aside. We can’t get married, but maybe soon we can join the military and defend the country which denies us this basic right — and even ”admit” that we’re gay! Go progress. But one thing I’ve never called my boyfriend —well, other than punctual — is partner. I don’t care how many gays or lesbians use the term to describe their significant other, I refuse to believe it was ”one of us” that coined it. I’m no activist, but almost the very second I accepted that I was gay, I wanted equality: even if, at the time, it meant telling my friend Jessica that I was more in love with Justin Timberlake than she was. She could declare her love, so why couldn’t I? READ MORE AT: http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/dailyloaf/2010/06/01/a-gay-in-the-life-hes-my-b… added by: Ryan_Jent
