Lyrics: I don’t want another pretty face I don’t want just anyone to hold I don’t want my love to go to waste I want you and your beautiful soul I know that you are something special To you I’d be always faithful I want to be what you always needed Then I hope you’ll see the heart in me [Chorus:] I don’t want another pretty face I don’t want just anyone to hold I don’t want my love to go to waste I want you and your beautiful soul You’re the one I wanna chase You’re the one I wanna hold I wont let another minute go to waste I want you and your beautiful soul Yeah You might need time to think it over But I’m just fine moving forward I’ll ease your mind If you give me the chance I will never make you cry c`mon let’s try [Chorus] Am I crazy for wanting you? Mary J. Blige just dropped her tenth album, My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1), at the end of 2011. Grooving to it got us the thinking of her many classics—so much so that bam, a top 10 list had to be whipped up. Where do we begin (or end)? Since the early ‘90s MJB’s been spewing out soulful, yet hardcore tales of hate, infidelity, abuse, and more recently, true love. Check out our list of the top 10 Mary J. Blige songs below and sound off on whether you agree or not in the comments section. 10. All That I Can Say Lauryn Hill injected some mellow into Blige’s usually frantic delivery, penning the lyrics for Mary ’s first single. This one finds Mary blissful, hopping from one cloud to the next while tossing compliments to some lucky guy. 9. Just Fine “I like what I see when I’m looking at me when I’m walking past the mirror,” Mary sings joyfully. What? Yeah, this is the same lady that spent the first decade of her musical career howling at the demons in her closet. By the time this, the lead single from her eighth album Growing Pains dropped, Blige’s life apparently was just fine. She was a few years into her seemingly blissful marriage with husband and manager Kendu Isaacs. This is what happiness gave Mary, a bouncing dance smash. Surprisingly, Mary wears cheer well. 8. Everything Mary falls deep into a flowery pit of love on this Stylistics-sampling single. She was years away from finding her future husband, but effortlessly sings of her everything here. 7. Enough Cryin’ Grown and needing a lot more than promises to please her, Mary’s fed up with the lies of a man afraid to put a ring on it. And instead of staying and arguing, she’s packing up and bouncing out of his life to producer Rodney Jerkins’ booming bass and strings. Her rapping alter ego, Brook Lynn, also makes a solid lyrical appearance—shouting out a pair of designer shoes and telling the chump where to find her when he comes to his senses. 6. Family Affair This early oughts jam marked the start of Mary pushing negativity to the side in favor of club-ready bangers. Fittingly, it came from her fifth album entitled No More Drama . The Dr. Dre-produced single topped Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, as well as their Pop and R&B charts. 5. I’m Goin’ Down Mary’s cover of the Rose Royce Carwash ballad is so marvelous that when others sing it today, most think hers is the original. “Down” is from her sophomore set My Life , an album mostly about being in the dumps when it comes to love. Here, along with the next cut on this list, is where you hear her heart ache the loudest. 4. My Life The title track from her sophomore album is arguably the most hopeful and gloomy on the set. As she’s confessed since, My Life was recorded during the roughest period of her life. She was adjusting to fame, in an abusive relationship with K-Ci of K-Ci and JoJo, and on drugs. Still, she looked to a higher power and sung of better days ahead. 3. Not Gon’ Cry Mary plays the character of a scorned wife here. And though she wasn’t actually married in real life, she sure did wail on the Waiting to Exhale single like a hubby of 11 years did her wrong and stepped out on her. But instead of just wallowing in self-pity, she keeps a stiff upper lip. “Should’ve left your ass [a] long time ago,” she sings walking away from the man she once stood by proudly. “You’re not worth my tears.” This is the Mary—showing strength even during periods of turmoil—we’d love for years to come. 2. Be Without You Usually Mary’s on the brink of a failed relationship, which soon tanks. On the first single from The Breakthrough she powers through all rough patches with the kind of muscle only love can provide. “We’ve been too strong for to long,” Blige reminds her man on the hook. There’s no quit in her anymore. 1. Real Love Sampling Audio Two’s “Top Billing,” the second single from Blige’s classic debut, What’s the 411 , found the rookie singer searching for the kind of affection that would elude her for years to come. It also birthed the sound she’d become the reigning queen of: Hip-Hop Soul. Agree? Did we miss something? Let us know. RELATED STORIES: Did VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul Live Up To Expectations? Demo for the Jessie James tune hits the Net shortly after Russell Brand files for divorce from Perry. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry and Russell Brand Photo: Eric Ryan/ Getty Images Katy Perry and Russell Brand have been keeping low profiles since Friday’s divorce announcement, but on a brand-new song that just hit the Net, Perry sings about falling for the wrong guy. The song, which Perry co-wrote, is actually a demo version of the Jessie James track “Bullet.” While the song has many country music flourishes thanks to twangy guitars, the lyrics — minus references to cowboy boots and country accents — work for Perry. She opens with the lines: “My mama warned me about boys like you/ It’s the reason I wear these high-heeled boots/ And let me give you a little piece of advice/ My papa packs heat and he won’t think twice.” And the song’s big chorus is signature Perry. On the sing-along refrain, Perry belts out, “I’m a bullet and I’m headed/ Straight for your heart/ Be careful what you start/ I’m a bullet and I’m headed/ Straight for your heart/ It’s gonna leave a mark.” Although the song eventually landed on James’ 2009 self-titled debut, the timing of the leak coincides with the news of Perry’s split from comedian Brand after a little more than a year. Brand was spotted in his native England on Saturday, one day after the news broke of their breakup, while Perry, who has yet to speak about the split, is slated to perform at two concerts this month: one on January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another on January 22 in Manila, in the Philippines. When MTV News spoke to some experts about Perry and Brand’s breakup , they noted that the divorce didn’t come as a surprise to them. “From the get-go, I thought they were a sort of odd, mismatched pair,” David Caplan, a celebrity news editor who has worked at publications including People and Star, told us. “She’s so glamorous, pop and sexy, and he is diametrically not like that. He’s a nice and funny guy, and from my encounters with her, I found her to be funny, have a sarcastic edge and a blast, but they weren’t a match. Plus, she’s more of a partier than he now, so their lifestyles were at odds.” What do you think of Katy and Russell’s decision to divorce? Tell us what you think on our Facebook page. ‘People say that rock and roll is dead, and it is my mission and my goal to resurrect it,’ singer says of her next album. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha Photo: Getty Images With 2011 behind her, Ke$ha knows exactly how she’ll be spending the next few months. She’s preparing to hit the studio in early 2012 for her next album. And while she’s favored Auto-Tune, club beats and lyrics about glitter for her past musical endeavors, this time around, anything is possible. “I think that my first record was heavily influenced by Licensed to Ill and the Beastie Boys and that [first] record is, like, very brash and very sassy and very unapologetic and irreverent. And I love that,” she told MTV News about her 2010 debut Animal . “I’m really proud of that, but I have learned over the past three years of doing this that being vulnerable doesn’t mean you’re weak. I very much want to be seen as a strong woman, but I realize that vulnerability can also be a strength. So on my next record, you are going to hear probably a little more of that. I’m not going to make an acoustic, sad entire record. But you might hear a little bit more vulnerability on the next record ’cause I have realized just from this Dylan cover coming out [on Amnesty International’s anniversary album] that it can be such a strength and a nice balance to humanize the other side of my personality,” she added. “I’ve been writing but I haven’t gone in with [producer Dr. Luke] yet. He’s working on stuff and I’m working on stuff for it. But [to] actually start, we go into the studio in January, early January.” If fans are looking for something new from K-Dollar Sign and can’t wait for this next record, she already has some music for you to listen to. She recently dropped her latest “Sleazy” remix and will be one of the many artists covering Bob Dylan for the Amnesty International anniversary album out on January 24. But even with all that out in the world, she’s especially excited for this next album. “I feel like I don’t necessarily agree, but people say that rock and roll is dead, and it is my mission and my goal to resurrect it in the form of my pop music,” she declared. “That’s the goal. We’ll see what happens. That’s a very ambitious and lofty goal, but that’s my goal.” As one year ends and another begins, the bedazzled singer took a moment to reflect on 2011, and it was quite the wild ride for her. “The whole year has been absolutely crazy, but I think that my tour, my headlining tour with LMFAO and Spank Rock, that was like really exciting to be a headliner for the first time really in my life, to be playing some of the same places I was playing opening for Rihanna,” she said. “Sometimes you get caught up in the details, but when you’re onstage at Jones Beach in front of 10,000 people, those moments, money can’t buy those moments.” Noting that her appearance at Glastonbury Festival also topped her list of accomplishments for 2011, she admits she’s still reeling from Britney Spears’ recording of “Till the World Ends,” which she penned. “That song just came on the radio and I have to say, I love hearing Britney Spears sing my lyrics, every single day. It never gets old. I get so excited,” she said. “It’s better than any drug when you hear Britney Spears sing a song you wrote.” K hopes that in the next year, more people will see that she’s a lot more than just glitter and hot pants. “I have a lot of growing and evolving to do,” she explained. “I’m definitely not a one-trick pony and I think more people are starting to see that more and more.”
Performing live on New Year’s Eve, Cee Lo Green made a seemingly minor change to the lyrics to John Lennon’s classic song “Imagine” that caused a big uproar. Shortly before the ball dropped, Green changed the lyrics from “Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too” to “Nothing to kill or die for, and all religion’s true.” This didn’t go unnoticed by many fans, upset with the change. In response, Cee Lo Tweeted, “Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyric guys! I was trying to say a world were u could believe what u wanted that’s all.” That did little to comfort angered Lennon lovers, who lashed out on Twitter. Watch the performance below (around 4:00) and tell us if you think the criticism is warranted: Cee Lo Green – Imagine (Live on New Year’s Eve)

As everyone looks back on the year that was, I’ve found myself returning to a few moments in the movies that resonated especially well thanks to a phenomenon that achieves soul-stirring status so rarely, though not for lack of frequency: Song choice. I’m not talking about dropping the latest Kelly Clarkson/Natasha Bedingfield ditty into a crap rom-com. I mean the special, skin-tingling magic that occurs when a song is married so perfectly to a character, story, or feeling that the music and the moment swell within us with new, layered meaning. Join me and let’s hash it out: Which movie(s) used music the best in 2011? This is certainly a subjective topic, but consider the lost art of meshing music (songs, not score; pre-existing or original recordings) to film. “Mrs. Robinson” in The Graduate . “Over the Rainbow” in The Wizard of Oz ! Where were our iconic movie-music moments in 2011? For me it comes down to two films: Jonathan Levine’s 50/50 and Nicholas Winding Refn ‘s Drive , two very different offerings with wildly divergent sounds that nevertheless have stuck in my mind and my senses, indelibly tied to the musical choices within. 50/50 : “Yellow Ledbetter” Despite being shot in Vancouver, Jonathan Levine’s 50/50 was about a 27-year-old Seattle man facing cancer, so maybe that bit of intent factored into Levine’s use of Pearl Jam in his end credits; in any case, using the “Jeremy” B-side “Yellow Ledbetter” to close the film was an inspired choice. As Adam ( Joseph Gordon-Levitt ), having survived cancer, tentatively embarks on his first date with Katie (Anna Kendrick) — the start of new possibilities, a new hope — the strains of “Yellow Ledbetter” tentatively begin. And while nobody really knows the actual words that are coming out of Eddie Vedder’s mouth, there’s an optimistic melancholy to the song that just works. Legend has it Vedder wrote the song after walking with a friend who’d just learned his brother had died in the Gulf War, watching as patriotic neighbors shunned the grieving friend; easy to see how thematically this works with Adam’s movie ending, having been in close proximity to death while everyone else — except that one special someone — doesn’t quite understand. Honorable mention: 50/50 ‘s use of Radiohead’s “High & Dry” as Adam learns he has cancer. Drive : “Tick of the Clock”/”Oh My Love” But let’s be honest — the entire Drive soundtrack has been in heavy rotation for me and many others all year, and I’ve raved about it here so much already. But a closer examination of how Refn uses his song selections is worth a look, Cliff Martinez’s throbbing score notwithstanding. Two scenes in particular conjure that magical musical feeling for me. One is the early getaway scene in which the pulsating beat of Chromatics’ “Tick of the Clock” sneaks in as Ryan Gosling ‘s Driver is introduced during his latest getaway job. His clients have taken too much of their five-minute window, the cops are wising up, and the clock is literally ticking; Johnny Jewel’s beat kicks in as the real action starts, accelerating and swelling as this simple job turns into a chase. It’s pure aural adrenaline we hear, approximating the same daredevil juices that flow through Gosling’s calm, coiled being. Like the track itself, Gosling is just so motherfucking cool . It’s a brilliant way to jump into Driver’s life in a snapshot that instantly informs us of who he is, what he does, and that he’s cruising on the razor edge of danger. The better song in Drive , however, is also the most underappreciated track in the bunch, possibly of the year: Riz Ortolani’s original recording of “Oh My Love,” sung by Katyna Ranieri decades ago. Recall the film’s turning point, as the soaring operatic tune plays while Driver finds Shannon (Bryan Cranston) dead, then stalks and confronts Ron Perlman’s Nino — the most imposing of his enemies, even if Albert Brooks’ Bernie Rose emerges as the one to be feared the most — culminating in a moonlit beach attack. Now, in a soundtrack filled with contemporary electro tracks (including College’s “A Real Hero,” the theme song of Drive ) and fleshed out by Martinez’s complimentary score, “Oh My Love” seems an oddity — but it’s the most inspired, and the most brilliant choice of them all. Originally recorded circa 1971 for the infamous Italian exploitation flick Addio Zio Tom ( Goodbye Uncle Tom ), a mondo faux-documentary about American slavery reviled for its terribly misguided content, the song is a beautifully evocative, lyrical ode to the inherent darkness in our nature — but also to the redemptive potential in man. Take a closer look at the lyrics, and watch the sequence in which it appears: Oh my love, look and see The sun rising from the river Nature’s miracle once more will light the world But this light is not for those men Still lost in an old black shadow Won’t you help me to believe that they will see A day, a brighter day When all the shadows will fade away That day I’ll cry that I believe That I believe Oh my love High above us The sun now embraces nature And from nature we should learn that all can start again As the stars must fade away To give a bright new day It’s a sequence featuring a swirl of emotion and action — sadness, hope, revenge, bloodlust — marking the moment when Driver, pushed to the brink, throws any chance for a peaceful happy ending away and instead embraces the darkness within. This is the defining moment for Driver, and for Drive , the instant in which our hero truly becomes an anti-hero, choosing to avenge Shannon and preemptively protect Irene over the possibility of running away with her and Benicio — a future in which they would have run, together, but would’ve always lived in fear of retribution. Ortolani and Ranieri’s song perfectly illuminates Driver’s place in this world of hard, dangerous men, but it also, importantly, gives us hope for his future. A Video I Made for Justin Bieber using the song “Beautiful Disaster (Live)” by Kelly Clarkson. Lyrics: He drowns in his dreams An exquisite extreme I know He’s as damned as he seems And more heaven than a heart could hold And if I try to save him My whole world could cave in It just ain’t right It just ain’t right Oh and I don’t know I don’t know what he’s after But he’s so beautiful Such a beautiful disaster And if I could hold on Through the tears and the laughter Would it be beautiful? Or just a beautiful disaster He’s magic and myth As strong as what I believe A tragedy with More damage than a soul should see And do I try to change him? So hard not to blame him Hold on tight Baby hold me tight Oh and I don’t know I don’t know what he’s after But he’s so beautiful Such a beautiful disaster And if I could hold on Through the tears and the laughter Would it be beautiful? Or just a beautiful disaster I’m longing for love and the logical But he’s only happy hysterical I’m searching for some kind of miracle Waited so long Waited so long He’s soft to the touch But frayed at the end he breaks He’s never enough And still he’s more than I can take Oh and I don’t know I don’t know what he’s after But he’s so beautiful Such a beautiful disaster And if I could hold on Through the tears and the laughter Would it be beautiful? Follow me on twiiter twitter.com (Note; This song was from 2009 I changed the pitch due to copyright, I own NOTHING!) Lyrics I think i found my girl, if it’s you then holla! Think i found my girl, if it’s you then holla! Think i found my girl, if it’s you then speak to me Girl it’s getting late, the sun’s going down, and its about the time to shake my cross the town. But before i go, i just wanna say, that you stay on my mind each and everyday I think i’m starting to like The time that we spend and its building inside then i can’t pretend No i don’t wanna fight it, i don’t wanna hide the way i feel So i guess it’s time for me to say That i got eyes for you baby, i want us to be together And if you feel it too, tell me, no one will treat you better Cause on nights like this, its good to know that you got someone by your side like this The more and more you feel like you can live your life like this And then you say, ‘Hope this will last forever’ Don’t know if is love, it’s too early to say But if it’s something like it I just want it to remain Don’t know if you’re the one, that takes a little time But in the mean time, girl you’re feeling just fine Cause the way you look at me, never seen that look before And if it’s a hint of what’s to come then maybe can i get some more? Not trying to be too forward, but i think its best for you to know I got eyes for you baby, i want us to be together And if you feel it too, tell me, no one will treat you better Cause on nights … http://www.youtube.com/v/qJQZMXbj6es?version=3&f=videos&app=youtube_gdata Original post: Justin Bieber – Forever (New 2011 Song) Lyrics (Download)
