Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Shows ‘Depth Of Gaga As A Songwriter,’ Akon Says

‘Unfortunately, people pay more attention to what she is wearing,’ adds Gaga’s label boss. By Jocelyn Vena Akon Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images It’s here, little monsters. On Friday morning (February 11), Lady Gaga debuted her highly anticipated new single, “Born This Way,” a funky, fun dance tune about loving yourself for who you are. Akon, who signed Gaga to his Kon Live Distribution label in 2008, opened up about the pop star’s latest dance opus, admitting that he thinks it will finally show off Gaga’s full capacities as a musician and songwriter, and not just a pop ingenue. “I think ‘Born This Way’ is the kind of record that if you are really paying attention you will get the full depth of Gaga as a songwriter. Sometimes the creative image hides the element of her lyrical content,” he told PopEater.com . “That’s why she wanted to give people a better idea of what she was saying outside of her image when she dropped those lyrics.” The track has a clear message: Everyone should be treated equally no matter who they are or what they believe in. “Gaga says a lot of stuff in her records,” Akon added. “But I know these parents and critics are not really listening to her lyrics. I know that for a fact. She’s singing about a lot of adult subject matter. She’s not just making dance records. Unfortunately, people pay more attention to what she is wearing.” The song is the lead single off the album of the same name, which will drop in May. Akon revealed that there are a few more touches that need to be added before they reach their deadline. “We are finishing up the album now,” he said. “She’s about to go back on tour later this year. There’s a lot going on.” Related Artists Lady Gaga Akon

Lady Gaga to Release New Single Friday

Lady Gaga will release her new single “Born This Way,” from the upcoming album of the same name, on Friday, two days ahead of when she originally planned. “Can’t wait any longer, single coming Friday,” the pop star Tweeted. Gaga is clearly anxious for the world to experience her latest work, which she is hyping beyond belief (although if any artist might live up to it, it’s the Lady). BORN THIS WAY : The album is coming May 23. The song this Friday! Having already released the lyrics, she said the song was recorded “around the world” and it “sounds like it reads, but not like you think until you hear it.” If “Born This Way” is indeed released Friday, it will come out on the same day that another, Justin Bieber , enjoys a big premiere – his Never Say Never film. Regardless, Lady Gaga is set to perform the single at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night. So in short, get ready to go absolutely Gaga this weekend.

Poor Thang: Christina Aguilera F*cks Up National Anthem

SMH: From seasoned pro to “Oh no!” – Christina Aguilera made sure Super Bowl XLV started off on the right note – too bad she couldn’t hold it there. The “Burlesque” star, 30, who has sung the National Anthem at many previous sporting events, including Game 7 of last year’s NBA finals, bungled the lyrics, causing confusion amongst the crowd and with viewers at home. “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming,” she belted about one minute into the song, to the bewilderment of somber Super Bowl fans. What should have come next: “O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming.” Twitter immediately lit up with reactions to Aguilera’s blunder. “Egypt thanks Christina Aguilera for botching the national anthem and bumping them off the Twitter trending list,” one user tweeted. “Blowing the words of the anthem at the Super Bowl. Wow. Do they take away one of her five Grammys for that? Two?” Sports Illustrated’s Joe Posnanski added. Aguilera, on her part, wasn’t about to take the Twitter storm passively, shooting back on her account: “Acapella, (LIVE) with no orchestra,..millions of people watching!! Like @nickiminaj said…”Haters you can kill yourself”! HA! #superbowl.” The five-time Grammy award winner held the final note – “brave” – for just over six seconds in her trademark guttaral growl, but even that wasn’t enough to save her rough start. In a statement to the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog, Aguilera said the flub happened because “I lost my place.” “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place,” she explained. “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.” Source Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2011/02/06/2011-02-06_oops_christina_aguilera_messes_up_the_words_to_the_national_anthem_before_the_su.html#ixzz1DHWKQMlO

Lil B Is Cooking Up A Storm In 2011

MTV News takes the self-proclaimed ‘Based God’ on a date in Chinatown. By Rya Backer Lil B Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — If you aren’t among the more than 120,000 Twitter followers of Lil B “The Based God” or the many fans of his freestyles, or the regulars on Dior Paint (a Tumblr site supposedly run by his stylist), you probably would have been a little confused by all the cooking going on at B’s show earlier this month at Manhattan’s Highline Ballroom. But after watching the many “chefs” doing B’s signature dance, which literally involves miming the act of cooking, you’d probably also want to know a little more about the unusual rapper, whom we named a Mixtape Daily Fire Starter last year. That’s why MTV News met up with B for a First Date at Joe’s Shanghai in Chinatown. Between dumplings and fried rice, the Berkeley, California MC, who released Angels Exodus last week, talked all about his Twitter, his recent success and his unique subgenre of music. “Based music really is just doing what you feel, really letting the beats sink into you and letting the lyrics coat the beat,” he explained. “It’s really just about being yourself, though, and being positive. Doing what you want to do.” One thing that sets him apart is the Internet: B has over 150 MySpace pages, each one featuring unique tracks, and legions of aforementioned Twitter disciples who choose to show their devotion in rather interesting ways. “A lot of guys show me love and want me to date their women,” he said of his online fans. “It’s an honor. And I will use that gift and their trust and I will do the right thing.” In return for such loyalty, he’s given out about a dozen free mixtapes (including Rain in England, which he touts as hip-hop’s first ambient mixtape), and he just as freely provides new songs as soon as they’ve been finished, often promising that they’re “#rare.” With gigs like the Coachella Music and Arts Festival on the horizon, and more new music promised, 2011 may be the year that we’ll all be thanking Based God. Gwyneth Paltrow Sings With Cee Lo, Covers Taylor Swift On ‘SNL’

Pee Wee Herman and Anderson Cooper turn up in a digital short about boozy debauchery. By Mawuse Ziegbe Cee Lo, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jason Sudeikis perform on “SNL” Jan. 15 Photo: NBC When Cee Lo promised that he and Gwyneth Paltrow would be cranking out some musical moments when they both turned up on “Saturday Night Live,” he wasn’t playing around. The Lady Killer singer hit the stage twice, but he also showed off his comedic chops by popping up alongside Gwyneth in three different sketches. The “Closet Freak” singer wasted no time getting on with the funny business, by first turning up in Paltrow’s opening monologue. After the “Country Strong” star pumped up her country-music knowledge, including hits by the “lady with the hair and the big boobs,” Jason Sudeikis appeared as white-haired legend Kenny Rogers for his classic duet with “the boob lady” — also known as Dolly Parton — “Islands in the Stream.” After Paltrow flubbed the lyrics, Cee Lo sauntered onstage to join the duo, who all belted the lines perfectly. Although they didn’t share the mic, Paltrow and Cee Lo also showed up in a sketch about a bar mitzvah with tons of A-list performers rocking Jewish-friendly versions of their hits. Cee Lo, of course, played himself, rocking a full-length fur and swapping out “Forget You” for “Hebrew.” Paltrow played up her country connection by appearing as Taylor Swift and putting a Jewish twist on “You Belong With Me” with lyrics about Mel Brooks and shopping at Loehmann’s. Paltrow also hooked Cee Lo up with an extra-special introduction to his first performance, appearing in a skit as a record executive grappling with how to market the Gnarls Barkley vocalist’s potty-mouth single. Although, in this office, “forget” is a bad word, and Paltrow’s co-workers gasp when she spews things like, “Are you forgetting kidding me?” When Cee Lo strolls in, he greets everyone with “What’s up, motherforgetters?” and adds that he’s “feeling good, my Nintendos.” After some back-and-forth about censoring Cee Lo’s hit, Paltrow gets on the phone with the FCC, which declares the former Goodie Mob MC can say “forget you” on television — which segues right into the star’s first song. Backed by band of foxy musicians in clingy magenta minidresses and go-go boots, Cee Lo rocked the retro jam in front of a huge set piece swirled with Technicolor hues. Silhouettes of back-up dancers also grooved behind the star as he belted “I love you!” with abandon, looking slick in a black sequined shirt and gold chain. While Paltrow gave Cee Lo a standard “SNL” introduction for his second song, the singer souped up the look of the stage with scenes of a glittery skyline and flashy New York City streets splashed onto the set piece. With his groovy-looking band in tow, the crooner ripped through “Bright Lights, Bigger City,” swapping out the gold chain for a silver one and finishing up the performance with a raspy, rock-star-esque “Ow!” Paltrow popped up in other sketches as a comely cop who prompts an awkward reaction from Jay Pharoah as Will Smith on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” a leggy Heidi Klum auditioning to be a replacement host for CNN’s “Parker Spitzer” and a Spanish-speaking SportsCenter anchor who peppers her rapid-fire commentary with spot-on English pronunciations. In addition to Paltrow, another musical screen star made a special “SNL appearance: kooky personality Pee Wee Herman, played by Paul Reubens . In the skit, Andy Samberg runs into Reubens’ bow-tie-rocking alter ego at a bar, and they both end up knocking back tons of shots and getting into all types of booze-powered debauchery. Pee Wee even busted out his signature jerky, pelvic thrust before trying not to vomit all over the patrons. The rowdiness doesn’t stop there, as Samberg and Herman drunkenly wander in to the street and Pee Wee ends up smashing a chair on both a cop and CNN’s Anderson Cooper. The duo stumble home to an intervention staged by the pair’s friends, including Pee Wee’s puppet pals Chairry, Pterri and Conky. After Samberg and Herman agree to get their act together, everyone, including a bandaged Cooper, celebrates their new commitment to behaving properly with — what else? — a round of shots. What did you think of “SNL” this week? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Cee Lo Green
