Lil Wayne And Eminem’s ‘Drop The World’: Check Out Preview!

Video premieres March 11 on MTV. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne in the “Drop the World” video Smashed TV sets, burning fires and pure chaos mark the proceedings for Lil Wayne ‘s “Drop The World’ music video featuring Eminem . An exclusive 30-second clip is available on MTV.com and the video is scheduled to premiere March 11 on MTV . Director Chris Robinson told MTV News recently that the visuals would be aggressive and feature a heavy amount of technology and in the preview, Robinson’s warning is apparent. Wayne is standing at the crossroads of an abandoned block and as he raps the song’s chorus — “I’m gonna pick the world up and drop it on your f—— head” — while an army of looters run back and forth, smashing items and making sure pandemonium ensues. Robinson described the shoot as “just energy” and raved about Eminem’s entrance. “You got two guys who are basically huge supernovas coming together, and the way that the song is constructed is great,” he said. “Because unless you see it coming, you don’t know Eminem is on the track. The first two hooks and the first two verses are all Wayne, and it’s kind of a surprise when Eminem comes through, and we matched it visually how Eminem enters the piece. From the concept and to just hearing the lyrics, with both of these amazing lyricists killing it, the whole video is just energy.” In the clip, a comet strikes the sky and seconds later Eminem appears among the debris. Wayne then joins Em as the two pose for cameras. “It hurts but I’ll never show/ ‘Cause pain you’ll never know/ If only you could see how lonely and how cold/ And frostbit I’ve become,” the Detroit MC kicks off the third verse, singing his flow. The collaboration is from Wayne’s rock-leaning effort Rebirth. Wayne had long sought out Shady to join forces with him on a record . They were both part of the all-star “Forever,” also featuring Kanye West and Drake, but fans clamored for just the two superstar lyricists to appear on a song together. However, it wasn’t until recently that Eminem was available, after working on his comeback album and battling his drug addiction. “There hasn’t really necessarily been a time for me to go to collaborate and sh– lately, because I been so locked down in the studio,” Eminem said. “But I’m open for whatever. There’s a lot of rappers in the game I respect, especially right now.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne Eminem

Now, it seems the singer/songwriter is expressing his love for sassy pop star Ke$ha on the site. He’s also calling out all the haters for their criticism of Ke$ha’s raucous pop. “Stop telling your friends you detest the Ke$ha song and then dancing to it at home,” he tweeted . “How about some accountability, people?” He later added : “How can you watch Jersey Shore for 9 hours and then act like you only listen to Beethoven’s fifth? Okay. Point made. Night.” He also took to the site to personally reach out to the singer and joke with her about the lyrics to her hit song “Tik Tok.” “Dear Ke$ha, you have won me over with your tricks and charms and I must tell you I really like your song,” he wrote . “Though I must add I tried brushing with a bottle of Jack and I chipped a tooth on the glass. Shakira Scores Love With Tennis Pro Rafael Nadal In New Video

Shakira and Rafael Nadal cozy up in ‘Gypsy’ clip. By Jocelyn Vena Shakira and Rafael Nadal in her “Gypsy” video Photo: Epic Records Shakira must really love tennis — especially when Spanish player Rafael Nadal is playing. In the clip for her new single “Gypsy,” the hip-shaking singer shows just how much she loves the No. 3-ranked player’s swing. The video opens with Shakira’s mouth on her harmonica and closes with her lips all over the shirtless Nadal. In between, the two get in some serious canoodling. The video, like the song paired with it, has a much more organic vibe and sound than other tracks from Shakira’s 2009 album She Wolf . Directed by frequent Shakira collaborator Jaume de Laiguana, the video tells a love story that plays out on a desert backdrop. It’s an ideal setting for the romance between the smiling Shakira and her often-shirtless tennis pro to unfold. The video has lots of perspiration, quite a few shots of Shakira’s gyrating hips and much affection shown by the pair. While the lyrics of “Gypsy” have Shakira singing about looking to bring her love with her on the road, in the video she turns up the glam in outfits that look like she has entire closets at her disposal. And while she claims that she’s willing to wear her lover’s clothes if they fit, she looks much hotter in the sheer black halter top and long black skirt that she sports at one point in the clip. As the video closing on Nadal and Shakira kissing, the viewer wonders if — and hopes that — they can survive her gypsy lifestyle. What do you think of Shakira’s new video? Tell us in the comments! Jay Electronica Praises Soulja Boy, Reveals Project With Nas

‘You can expect multiple projects this year,’ MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes Jay Electronica The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive The reception Jay Electronica has been getting from fans during his U.K. tour has been just as enthusiastic as his feedback Stateside. Fans and critics still love “Exhibit C” and some of Jay’s other underground gems. People are clamoring for the street CD Act II and the official LP Act III, and Jay said he’s going to deliver both of those projects and more this year. “It’s still Act II. Act III, the official album, which ‘Exhibit A’ and ‘Exhibit C’ are a part of [as well as] ‘Dear Moleskin,’ ” Jay said in Europe earlier this week. “Me and Mos [Def] have a project that we’re doing, me and Guilty Simpson have a project that we’re doing. I would like to do a project with Lupe — [Fiasco] we’re going to do a project at some point. Me and Nas have a project that we’re doing . I’m just trying. I’m in the process of working and connecting. I don’t really feel like a song or an album is the end-all, be-all to what we’re doing. “You can expect my album this year,” he added. “You can expect multiple projects this year. We’re going to do a lot this year.” Electronica is focused on responsibilities outside of rap, including raising a baby daughter with singer Erykah Badu. “Dealing with a lot personally, that not necessarily takes me away from my music, because it comes through in my music as well. But as a person trying to grow and figure out how to handle things, learn and be a man — all that’s a part of the process too. It’s hard to put a release date on those type of things when you’re factoring those things in.” The New Orleans native said that “Exhibit A” producer Just Blaze will produce 65 percent of his solo debut. Jay’s commanding mic presence and wordplay have captured the ears of many, and he said he has no choice but to come with sustaining lyrics like “I make the devil hit his knees and say, ‘To our father’ ” — he’s a product of his golden-era-of-rap influences. “The lyricism in my music — I come from a different era,” he explained. “I was born in ’76. I was raised in the ’80s. I’m an ’80s baby. LL Cool J was the first person that inspired me to rhyme. I have a lot of bragging in my rhymes. LL was my first enlightenment. If you would have asked me this two years ago, I would have said lyricism was lacking. Like somebody would say Soulja Boy … you would say he’s not a lyricist, right? If you took a poll and said, ‘Is Soulja Boy a lyricist?’ People would say no, right? But it’s not the words, it’s energy of what he does that’s the lyrics. It’s not the lyrics — the energy of it is the connector. The energy of it is greater than the words of it. In a sense, lyrics has been lacking in the contest of grammar and vocabulary, but the spirit and energy of it is never gone — or else the complete genre of hip-hop is gone.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . ‘American Idol’ Reveals New Exit Song: ‘Leave Right Now’

The tune, which will debut during Thursday’s results show, is by ‘Pop Idol’ winner Will Young. By Katie Byrne Will Young Photo: Mike Marsland/WireImage “American Idol” is offering up some tough love to eliminated contestants this year with the new farewell song “Leave Right Now.” The tune is from Will Young, who was the inaugural winner of “Pop Idol,” the British show that inspired “American Idol.” The song will debut Thursday (February 25) on “Idol,” when the first four top 24 contestants get the boot. Aside from the results, the show will also feature performances from Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta and footage from Allen’s recent trip to earthquake-ravaged Haiti . While the “Leave Right Now” title sounds pretty harsh (don’t let the door hit ya!), the chorus isn’t quite so severe, with the lyrics “I think I better leave right now/ Before I fall any deeper/ I think I better leave right now/ Feeling weaker and weaker.” Choosing Young’s song follows in the tradition of keeping the exit anthem in the “Idol” family. Last year’s song was Carrie Underwood’s cover of M

Lil Wayne And Eminem’s ‘Drop The World’ Video Is ‘Just Energy,’ Director Says

‘You got two guys who are basically huge supernovas coming together,’ Chris Robinson tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne and Eminem perform at the 2010 Grammy Awards Photo: Michael Caulfield/ WireImage Lil Wayne feverishly filmed a series of music videos in the weeks leading up to what he thought would be his last day of freedom two weeks ago, before dental surgery postponed his prison sentence . Director David Rousseau told MTV News that the Cash Money superstar recorded up to nine videos in one weekend, though most were in front of a green screen so his image could be added later to the finished clips. One video the rapper was on the set for, however, was his upcoming clip with Eminem for “Drop the World.” The collaboration between the two esteemed MCs is the next single from Wayne’s Rebirth album. The pair performed a snippet of the track at last month’s Grammy Awards . Chris Robinson directed the “Drop the World” video and told MTV News on Tuesday (February 23) that the shoot — featuring the two heavyweight MCs — was comparable to a movie set. “As a director, it’s how do you, more than anything, combine these two artists together and create something that’s special,” he explained. “Because when you have two artists together, it’s like, ‘Oh, they’ll stand next to each other [and that’s it].’ It’s very awkward sometimes to have two very big stars. How are you gonna cover that? Especially two artists that are so big. You can do that with a performance at the Grammys, because the spectacle is to watch them onstage and sit in the audience and look at it. But as an artistic piece to have some magic, or if it’s a mood piece or whatever way you communicate the music, you have to take two people into consideration with how you do that. And for me, I almost take it like a feature film: How did Scorsese put Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio in the same movie?” The clip was filmed on the eve of the Grammys, Robinson said. It was a one-day shoot, and Wayne was on the set for upward of 14 hours. As of press time, no details regarding the premiere are available. The “Drop the World” video is still being edited, Robinson said. It’s likely the director will complete the final clip by the top of next week. Wayne is scheduled to begin his one-year jail sentence in New York on March 2 after undergoing eight root canals . Robinson wouldn’t reveal the premise of the video, but he promised the clip would match the song’s intensity. Paramore’s ‘Exception’ Video Features Fans’ Valentines

Band solicited homemade cards for clip. By Kyle Anderson Paramore’s Hayley Williams in “The Only Exception” Photo: Warner Music Group Paramore have been steadily evolving since their breakout album Riot! dropped in 2007. On their latest album, Brand New Eyes, their sound grows in multiple directions. The disc even features a rarity for the band: a ballad, called “The Only Exception.” The group’s music videos have grown as well, from the basic performance piece that was “Ignorance” to the more elaborate effects-based “Brick by Boring Brick.” Their latest video — for “The Only Exception,” which premiered on their official Web site on Wednesday — sees the band exploring narrative in a way they never have before. The clip opens with singer Hayley Williams waking up on a couch next to a guy and writing a note that says “I’m sorry.” From there she walks to the next room and hugs a guy who, based on the lyrics, is probably meant to be her father. The video continues with Williams in her room staring into the mirror, singing about how love doesn’t exist. She then moves through a costume closet and into a restaurant set, where a rotating cast of guys pose as her date. In a cool transition, she moves into the next room, where there’s a wedding (everybody is wearing white, but Williams comes dressed in black). She flees the scene when the bride enters. During the chorus, the clip cuts to the coolest scene in the whole video: Williams sings the song’s chorus (“Darling, you are the only exception”) while lying down on a giant pile of homemade Valentine’s Day cards (as opposed to the official Paramore Valentines ). According to Williams’ Twitter , the cards were solicited by the band and sent in by fans. In the video’s final moments, Williams spots her dream guy in the crowd at a rock show (the same dude she woke up next to in the opening scene), fantasizes about them together and makes her way back through the various rooms to the original set. She returns to the couch where dream guy is still asleep. “The Only Exception” is Paramore’s most ambitious and mature video yet, matching its action to the advanced sentiment of the lyrics, which paint Williams as a cynic who doesn’t believe in love but is willing to make an exception for the right person. It’s another win for a band that just keeps coming up victorious. Related Artists Paramore

LL Cool J Is Glad Hip-Hop Was ‘Embraced’ On ‘We Are The World’ Remake

‘When you get a call from Quincy Jones to pick up a pen, you pick it up,’ LL says of writing lyrics for benefit single. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jayson Rodriguez LL Cool J Photo: MTV News In case anyone was wondering if Barbra Streisand and Kanye West could make sweet music together, they’ll find out when the star-filled remake of “We Are the World” premieres Friday during the opening ceremony of the Olympics. Thanks to some lyrics from hip-hop legend LL Cool J , the hip-hop community appears to be well represented on the track, which will benefit earthquake-ravaged Haiti. “Mr. [Quincy] Jones just called me and asked me if I would take a shot at writing the hip-hop section or the rap section of the song,” LL Cool J told MTV News at BET’s “SOS Save Ourselves: Help for Haiti” telethon Friday night at Miami’s American Airlines Arena. “And I took a shot at it and recorded it.” With the OK from Jones and Lionel Richie, LL then sought the approval of his hip-hop contemporaries. “It seemed like the other artists that were there liked it,” he said. “Will.I.Am, Wyclef, Kanye — a lot of people were there, and they all seemed to be onboard with it. So we went on and recorded it.” LL was glad that his peers liked the lyrics, but he was even more pleased to see that stars like Celine Dion and Streisand were down with adding some hip-hop flavor to the charity single. “I’m just honored that I’m able to make a contribution and blessed,” he said. “When you get a call from Quincy Jones to pick up a pen, you pick it up. So if they would have not used it, it would have been all right. The point is to have the opportunity to do it and to know that the money is going to go to Haiti and help some people. From a hip-hop standpoint, yeah, it’s great to be a part of it [and that the other artists] didn’t say, ‘Keep hip-hop out of it,’ but embraced it.” Learn more about what you can do to help with earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti , and for more information, see Think MTV .
