Lady Gaga Suffers Concussion During Concert, Responds To Madonna?

Singer smacked in the head with a pole during New Zealand show and appeared to reply to Madonna’s dis during a different show. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga arrives in Auckland, New Zealand Photo: Getty Images Maybe Lady Gaga’s fans should call her Mother Terminator instead of Mother Monster. The unstoppable pop machine proved her mettle on Sunday night during the third of three shows in New Zealand when she was struck in the head with a pole and just kept on rocking. Videos of the incident posted online show a male backup dancer accidentally hitting Gaga in the head with a metal set piece while trying to take move it off the stage. Gaga, who bent down to pick up a prop machine gun during the performance of “Judas,” staggered a bit and rubbed her head before briefly walking off the stage. But, a short time later, she was right back at it, performing 16 more songs before calling it a night. Later in the gig, she told the audience, “I want to apologize. I did hit my head and I think I may have a concussion. But don’t you worry, I will finish this show.” The singer’s make-up artist, Tara Savelo, tweeted about the incident on Sunday, writing, “Gaga has a concussion but she is going to be okay. She wants u to know she loves u. I’m taking care of her. Can’t believe she finished the show.” Maybe at the next big awards show she can trade notes with Justin Bieber , who recently suffered a concussion
when he walked into a glass wall backstage during an appearance in Paris. There was other news out of her New Zealand swing as well. After Madonna called Gaga out
during her tour kick-off in Tel Aviv recently by playing a mash-up of her “Express Yourself” with Gaga’s similar-sounding “Born This Way” and then ending the song by chanting, “She’s not me,” Gaga appeared to respond to the dis. While playing her follicular pride tune “Hair” during a NZ show on Thursday, Gaga sat down at her motorcycle-shaped keyboard and appeared to respond to the incident. “It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves to put other people down or make fun of them or maybe make mockery of their work,” she said in a video of the speech posted on YouTube in which she speaks in general terms about knocking down others to make yourself feel better. (Speech starts at 2:30 mark.) “And that doesn’t make me feel good at all. That just makes me feel like I’m not being a good human being … I don’t even want to fight back because it’s more important to me to keep writing music. Because that’s really all I care about, is the music … things are really different than they were 25 years ago, and that’s what makes ‘Born this Way’ so relevant for me. We’re socially in a different place and it’s OK, we don’t have to all slice and hate each other anymore.” Related Artists Lady Gaga Madonna

Madonna’s MDNA Tour ‘Amazed And Shocked’ Martin Solveig

‘Coming from France … we do shows and stuff, but it’s not to that level,’ DJ says of the magnitude of Madonna’s shows. By Christina Garibaldi Madonna in her MDNA Tour Photo: Getty Images Martin Solveig is going to be one busy guy for the next month. Most recently, the French DJ got the 2012 MTV Movie Awards crowd on their feet when he wowed everyone as the house DJ , remixing themes from classic movies like “Star Wars” and “Jaws.” Solveig had a tight schedule during Movie Awards weekend, coming straight from overseas to Los Angeles for the big event. So what was Solveig up to? Well, he had just kicked off Madonna ‘s MDNA Tour in Tel Aviv, Israel, as her opening act. “I’m doing the opening so this is a completely different thing and so I discovered the whole show,” Solveig told MTV News. “I was really amazed and shocked and there’s so much going on.” Solveig will be joining Madonna for several stops as she hits 26 European and Middle Eastern countries before returning to the United States on August 28 in Philadelphia. Solveig admitted that the idea of performing in front of massive crowds each night isn’t the only exciting thing about being on tour, it’s seeing his music come to life. “To see the music that we made in the studio all of a sudden play to a massive audience with all those productions and sets, dancers,” Solveig said. “Coming from France … we do shows and stuff, but it’s not to that level. For me it’s a shock.” Solveig worked with Madonna on several songs off her chart-topping MDNA album, including the lead single, “Give Me All Your Luvin.” “We were working with no limits. I think the only thing that she said when we started was, ‘I just want people to be able to dance to my music and connect easily with my music,’ and also probably to take some risks at some point,” Solveig told MTV News in March. “Other than this, it was open to any kind of experimentation.” On Tuesday, Madonna announced that London dubstep duo Nero will open for her on the North American leg of her world tour. Madonna Covers Lady Gaga in Concert: A Diss or a Tribute?

Madonna recently went out of her way to once again not-so-subtly remind everyone that she is, in fact, in a sense, an older version of Lady Gaga. The queen of pop was performing “Express Yourself” at a rehearsal in Tel Aviv, Israel when she suddenly trotted out a cover of “Born This Way.” Of course, the two tracks blended seamlessly, reviving debate over whether Lady Gaga ripped off Madonna with her 2011 smash hit single. Madonna Covers Born This Way Although she stayed mum on Gaga’s song for some time, Madge eventually referred to it as “reductive” and undoubtedly influenced by her earlier work. There is no actual feud here, but the whole thing seems to have an air of condescension, as if Madonna is wielding the cover over her head. Or, on the other hand, is Madonna merely winking at the controversy while celebrating the younger performer and the highest form of flattery? Tell us what you think in the comments below.

Pauly D to Deadmau5: How’s the Discount Aisle?!

It’s not quite a Chris Brown and Chrissy Teigen -level feud, but Pauly D and Deadmau5 have been engaged in a bit of a Twitter beef of their own this week. $h!t got so real after Deadmau5 said earlier this week that the Jersey Shore star was a hack and basically has zero talent when it comes to DJing. Pauly D’s response? The Tweet and photo below: No word on whether Deadmau5, who also got into it with Madonna recently, truly thinks that 4×4=12, or if Neil Diamond is planning a Twitter offensive of his own after being inadvertently dragged into this war of words. In any case, the beat goes on. And it sounds like nnts nnts nnts nnts ….

D’Angelo Talks To GQ About Gettin’ Off That Blow And Just Saying No To Madonna

Can you believe this is his first interview in 12 years??? D’Angelo has cleaned up his act and is preparing to finally release another album and he talks about his past struggles with fame and the road to his return with GQ. We’ve got some excerpts for you here: R&B Singer And Mother Of D’Angelo’s Son Angie Stone Recalls When Fame Started To Take Over : Stone remembers an event in Manhattan in September 1996 that was billed as Giorgio Armani’s tribute to D’Angelo. Stone—thirteen years older than D—was three months pregnant with their son. They headed to the event together in a limo, but as they neared the venue where D was going to perform, it suddenly pulled over. “He was asked to get into another car, where he would be escorted by Vivica Fox,” Stone says, her voice breaking slightly. The lissome Fox had just appeared with Will Smith in the blockbuster Independence Day. “It was a Hollywood moment. They wanted a trophy girl. I had to walk in behind them to flashing cameras. It started the wheels turning of what was yet to come.” D’Angelo Turned Down Madonna: When Madonna turned 39, she asked him to sing “Happy Birthday” at her party. One press report had her sitting on his lap and French-kissing him. In fact, two sources say that ultimately D rebuffed her advances at another gathering not long after. At that event, the sources say, Madonna walked over and told a woman sitting next to D, “I think you’re in my seat.” The woman got up. Madonna sat down and told him, “I’d like to know what you’re thinking.” To which D replied, “I’m thinking you’re rude.” Sorry but we love that one! The Energy Behind “Untitled” Was Less About Sex Than Food : Paul Hunter, the director hired to make the video, says his work was misunderstood: “Most people think the ‘Untitled’ video was about sex, but my direction was completely opposite of that. It was about his grandmother’s cooking.” I’ve stopped by Hunter’s office in Culver City, California, to hear how D’Angelo came to be filmed bare-chested (but for a gold cross on a chain around his neck), wearing only a pair of precariously low-slung pajama bottoms, looking like a wolf circling a b!tch in heat. Illuminated from every angle, he spins very slowly as the camera fetishizes his every ripple and drop of sweat. I’ve imagined a lot of things that inspired the song’s rousing lyrics (Love to make you wet / In between your thighs cause / I love when it comes inside of you), but collard greens weren’t among them. Hunter is quick to explain that he, like D, was raised in the Pentecostal church. “When I used to sing in the choir,” Hunter says, “after the rehearsal, you go in to eat. I remembered seeing the preacher looking at a lady’s skirt one week and then, the next Sunday, talking about how fornication is wrong.” Such mixed messages about the pleasures of the flesh were intertwined with the pleasures of the palate—part of the same sensual stew. “So I was like, ‘Think of your grandmother’s greens, how it smelled in the kitchen. What did the yams and fried chicken taste like? That’s what I want you to express.’ “ The video may have looked like foreplay, but it was actually about family, Hunter insists—about intimacy. Later, when I tell D’Angelo this, he says, “It’s so true: We talked about the Holy Ghost and the church before that take. The veil is the nudity and the sexuality. But what they’re really getting is the spirit.” That’s interesting right? Hit the flip for more D’Angelo quotes about the cost of fame and how he self destructed…

DeadMau5 Ignites Twitter Feud, Calls Pauly D’s New Video ‘Garbage’

‘Night of My Life’ video ‘typical bottlepopping playpressing garbage im sure everyones sick of,’ deadmau5 tweets. By Jocelyn Vena Pauly D Photo: WireImage After putting to bed his feud with Madonna , it seems EDM star deadmau5 is embroiled in a new Twitter beef, this time with MTV’s own DJ Pauly D . It all began when Pauly posted a link to his new music video for the track “Night of My Life.” He asked his fans, followers and Twitter in general, “So how do you like the video?” Mau5 apparently checked it out and didn’t like what he saw. “Well since you asked,” deadmau5 tweeted , “I didn’t really enjoy it. it looked like it cost about $150 to make, and nothing really creative about it.” @ DJPaulyD well since you asked, i didn’t really enjoy it. it looked like it cost about $150 to make, and nothing really creative about it. — deadmau5 (@deadmau5) May 17, 2012 For those wondering what made Mau5 so mad, the video’s concept is pretty simple and by all standards, pretty innocuous. It plays out almost like a mini-episode of Pauly’s MTV show, “The Pauly D Project,” following him from gig to gig, confetti and champagne flying everywhere. It also features some behind-the-scenes moments, including the “Jersey Shore” star hanging with his pals and meeting fans. Pauly didn’t let the jab go, but did offer up a little quip to answer his fellow DJ’s dig. He tweeted, “T-Shirt $40 Jeans $120 Hair Gel $12 Being Hated On By deadmau5#Priceless.” Like any good feud, it didn’t end there. Dead’s response? “hating? the f—? you clearly don’t know me enough if you thought that was ‘hating’. was just some friendly-ish advice.” Things continued to escalate on Dead’s side, with him tweeting responses including, “i’ll just leave it at: ‘Don’t blame your failure on haters. If everyone thinks you suck, they’re not haters, they’re right.’ – Daniel Tosh,” and in response to a fan, he added, “nah, i just thought it was a piece of sh–, in short. typical bottlepopping playpressing garbage im sure everyones sick of.” “Well, now that Jersey (and quite possibly the rest of the eastern seaboard) ‘came at me bro’ i guess its time for bed soon,” Deadmau5 added before asking where Snooki is and then resigning, “im kidding. that was a joke. sorry.” With Deadmau5 seemingly over the whole thing, Pauly pondered, “Wonder If I Could Get @Deadmau5 To DJ My Birthday ?? Now That Would Be The #NightOfMyLife.” As the whole beef came to an end, Pauly had a few final words before ending the battle on his end. “Maybe He Just Needs Some Cheese To Go With His Whine … #WheresMyMau5Trap,” he said, then tweeted, “Well @DeadMau5 Today Was A Pleasure , Hope U Had Fun Too , But I Got Show To Watch Tonight #PaulyDProject U Should Tune In@MTV.” Sound off on the Twitter feud in the comments below! Tom Gabel Reveals Details Of Transgender Life In Rolling Stone

Against Me! singer details her long journey to her new life as a woman and her plans to ‘meet it head-on.’ By James Montgomery Tom Gabel of Against Me! Photo: Getty Images In the new issue of Rolling Stone, Tom Gabel goes public with her life-long struggle with body dysphoria, her transgender status and her desire to live life as a woman . Gabel, who will be known as Laura Jane Grace, makes the admissions in a feature in the magazine, which hits newsstands on Friday and details the long road she took to get to this point; from her first childhood realizations that she was uncomfortable in her male body — she has early memories of watching Madonna on TV and fantasizing about being her, and says she played with Barbies — to her teenage years in Florida, where she kept her secret hidden and felt ashamed, telling writer Josh Eells that she would often pray to God, asking, “Dear God, when I wake up, I want a female body.” And when that didn’t work, she’d try pleading with the devil, saying, “I promise to spend the rest of my life as a serial killer if you turn me into a woman.” Gabel said that she took inspiration from a transgender Against Me! fan named January Hunt — the feature opens with the two meeting in New York City — to finally begin transitioning from male to female, and has begun the process by undergoing electrolysis treatments (she’ll also soon begin taking hormones). She says she plans on living life as Laura for a full year before thinking about having sexual-reassignment surgery, and that she’s given up drinking alcohol, because she wants to be totally present for the transition process. “I don’t want to feel like, ‘This is an uncomfortable situation, I’ll have a couple drinks,’ ” she said. “I want to meet it head-on.” At the time of the Rolling Stone interview, Gabel had yet to reveal her transgender status to her parents, who are divorced, and had only recently told her Against Me! bandmates about her decision to transition (“I felt like I drop-kicked them in the face,” she said. “We had the most awkward hug ever, and then they left. And the second I shut the door, I was like, ‘What the f— did I just do?’ “). But she says that she has every intention to carry on fronting the band, saying: “However fierce our band was in the past, imagine me, six-foot-two, in heels, f—ing screaming into someone’s face.” And though much of the Rolling Stone feature focuses on Gabel’s journey, Eells also spoke at length with Gabel’s wife, Heather, who admitted to being a bit thrown by her husband’s revelations, but ultimately decided that she wanted to stand by her side during the transition … and beyond. “I kept waiting to get mad. Like, ‘Tomorrow, I’ll be really upset,’ ” Heather told the magazine. “I’m like ‘Let’s just see what happens, and we’ll just roll with it.’ My friends have been like, ‘What about you?’ But I’m fine. I just want him to be who he is, and for us to get on with phase two. You know, just … change.” Related Artists Against Me!

Is Believe The Place For Justin Bieber’s Baby Mama Drama?

Pop star said he wrote about his 2011 paternity controversy on the upcoming album. By John Mitchell Justin Bieber Photo: Valery Hache/ AFP/ Getty Images Sometimes you just have some things to get off your chest. For teen pop phenom Justin Bieber , one of those things is a paternity suit filed last year by a 20-year-old California woman claiming that a brief bathroom rendezvous with him following an October 2010 concert resulted in her pregnancy. Rather than ignore the matter, Bieber is confronting it head on with his new album Believe. “That girl — Mariah Yeater — who said she was going to have my baby. I wrote about that situation,” Bieber told the BBC of his new album. “Every song has a piece of me… I wrote almost all of them or co-wrote them.” The case, which Yeater dropped in November, has many wondering if Bieber was wise to commit his feelings to something as public and eternal as an album, or if he should have just let go of what was really a minor controversy. Though few believed them, the rumors introduced Bieber to one of the many pitfalls of celebrity and briefly overwhelmed his press cycle when he was trying to promote his Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe. The accusation challenged his family-friendly brand, something family law expert told MTV News could be grounds for a defamation of character suit. The suit likely weighed heavily on Bieber, regardless of its merit, making it prime material for his songwriting. But does dragging it all back into the public sphere benefit him in any tangible way? His recent tweet about Yeater — which read, “Dear mariah yeeter…we have never met…so from the heart i just wanted to say…” accompanied by an audio clip of Sasha Baron Cohen’s character Borat saying, “You will never get this” — was neither subtle nor particularly sophisticated. And since details of the suit were made so public and remain fresh in the minds of his fans, why restart the conversation if there is nothing new to add? Responding to your own press is a slippery slope for celebrities, and it can do one of two things: clear the air or consume the conversation. For Madonna and Michael Jackson, it did the former. “Billie Jean,” Michael Jackson’s classic declaration that he was not the father, was wrapped in a bit of mystery. There have long been contradictory claims that the song is about groupies MJ encountered early in his fame and that it was derived from a real-life experience in which a mentally ill fan claimed that Jackson had fathered her child. But it really doesn’t matter; we just know that these accusations were out there, so MJ decided to shut it down with a song. The difference is, Bieber’s controversy is already over and, considering few people ever believed the claims, was never a huge deal to begin with. Ever an expert at handling the press, Madonna held her head high when she addressed the massive backlash she encountered after she pressed through her sexually charged Erotica -era with a lone song, “Human Nature.” She posited that people’s anger with her had more to do with their own hang-ups than with her behavior and refused to apologize. Madonna knew she’d struck a nerve and defiantly declared, “Absolutely no regrets.” She dually stood her ground and introduced something new to the conversation. With “Human Nature,” Madonna held up a mirror to the public and asked “Is it really my sexuality you are uncomfortable with?” Bieber needs to pay particular attention to this lest he fall hard into Taylor Swift territory, where the artist is practically expected to directly address the minutia of their private lives in every song. First, it was Joe Jonas with “Forever & Always,” then John Mayer on “Dear John” and Kanye West on “Innocent.” It’s important, of course, for a singer/ songwriter to write what they know, but there’s a reason we only just learned who the subject of Adele’s multiplatinum, Grammy-winning 21 was (and why she’s never confirmed it). We want to be able to apply a song’s emotion to our own lives, but it’s hard to do that when a track is either too specific or too self-indulgent. We haven’t heard Bieber’s song about Yeater, so we can’t speak to whether it is either. If he has something new to say about the controversy — perhaps how it felt to be betrayed by one of his fans — then he may have found a way to turn lemons into lemonade. But if all he brings to the table are boasts about not being the father, well, then he should get ready for questions about how literal his love songs are regarding his relationship with Selena Gomez. Once you open the door and make your private life the subject of your professional endeavors, there’s no turning back.
