James Holmes Appears in Court, Exhibits Bizarre Behavior

James Holmes appeared in court for the first time today, and both video accounts and witness accounts confirm that the alleged Aurora, Colorado shooter exhibited extremely unusual behavior while listening to a judge charge him with first degree murder. As you can see, the 24-year old donned organ hair and a red jumpsuit, sitting alongside his lawyer and shifting between wide open eyes and shut eyes. At various time, it appeared as if he had fallen asleep. Holmes remained silent for the duration of the hearing, as the judge informed this suspect that he would be held without bail and forbidden from contacting the families of his 12 victims . Arapahoe County District Attorney Carol Chambers spoke briefly with reporters after the courtroom session and said it’s unknown at the moment whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty against Holmes. His trial is expected to begin in the summer of 2013.

Karen Klein Donation Tally: HOW MUCH?!?

A few weeks ago, bus driver Karen Klein was harassed by students in ways that were inexplicably horrendous. They mocked the 69-year old to no end, at one point even saying her kids should commit suicide because she’s so ugly. It was an experience no one should ever go through… but there is a silver lining, and it’s covered in wads of cash. Very soon after video of Klein’s bullying went viral, Internet users started to collect donations for the victim. Within 24 hours, $9,000 was raised to send Klein on a much-needed vacation. But the story spread and the money kept pouring in. And we now appear to have a final tally for the amount that total strangers gave to this mocked bus monitor: $703,873 . That’s not a typo. The seventh grade boys responsible for the taunts have all been suspended for an entire school year. They’ve also been ordered to complete a bullying prevention program. Let’s all hope they learn a valuable lesson. And let’s all hope Klein makes the most out of this windfall. We might not go as far as to say the vindictive mockery was worth it, but… well… $703,873!!!

Vincent Gallo is Suing Los Angeles, Because Of Course

Of all the random shenanigans actor/filmmaker/ online purveyor of fine goods Vincent Gallo has pulled, suing the city of Los Angeles kind of makes the most sense of them all. Consider: According to TMZ , Gallo filed a lawsuit to shut down the Arts District Business Improvement District plan, which uses taxpayer money to patrol, safeguard, and improve the downtown L.A. arts district. Gallo reportedly wants the program shut down and $1.3 million returned because it’s purportedly wasteful and provides “no benefit.” In other news: The Brown Bunny star’s personal services are still available for purchase! Now that’s money well spent, I’m sure. [ TMZ ]

Melissa McCarthy Isn’t Too Jazzed About a Wiig-Less Bridesmaids 2, Either

For many fans a Bridesmaids sequel moving forward without star Kristen Wiig is nearly unthinkable, and that goes for would-be sequel star Melissa McCarthy . E! Online’s Marc Malkin asked McCarthy if she’d be in without Wiig at last weekend’s Palm Springs International Film Festival. “God, I wouldn’t want to,” she said. “I would never want to. I think it’s a terrible idea…I don’t [know] anything about it,” she said. “But I know that nobody wants to do it unless it’s great. If it is, I will show up wherever those ladies are.” Those ladies — as in, all the Bridesmaids ladies? That’s solidarity, sister. [ E! Online ]

The Party Down Movie Will Film in 2012

Party Down fans, there is finally real hope: According to series co-star Megan Mullally , a feature film continuation of the cancelled show, about Hollywood hopefuls employed by an L.A. catering company, is on its way with most of the original cast likely to return. Get more details after the jump! Spilling the news over the weekend at the Television Critics Association tour, where she was promoting her new show Breaking In , Mullally dropped more concrete details on the film, which her co-stars and series co-creator Rob Thomas have hinted at for months. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mullally says the Party Down film will pick up where the show’s second season ended when it was cancelled by Starz in June of 2010, and that “the entire cast is coming back, with the possible exception of Jane Lynch, who she was not sure about.” Co-creator John Enbom is currently writing the script, with shooting to commence this spring or summer. Shooting during the spring hiatus makes the most sense, since various Party Down alums have since scattered to other shows. So, fans — how excited are you to hear of actual movement on a Party Down movie? But you might be surprised to learn than neither of these Comedy Central hosts bring in the most viewers. As of last week, that distinction officially belongs to Daniel Tosh , host of Tosh.0 . The show is as simple, and hilarious, as it gets. Tosh stands in front of a green screen and makes fun of clips/videos on the Internet. Such material has earned Tosh.0 an average of 2.4 million viewers, about 400,000 more than tune in for The Daily Show . Comedy Central has already renewed the series for a third season, while it’s also producing a nationwide stand-up tour for Tosh. So, you tell us: Who would you rather… watch?
