Kim Kardashian’s Explanation For Divorce ‘Leveled Me,’ Oprah Winfrey Says

Talk-show host’s interview with Kardashians airs Sunday on ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter.’ By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Photo: Oprah Winfrey’s highly anticipated sit-down with the Kardashians is set to air on OWN on Sunday, on “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” Now, leading up to the interview, fans are getting some sneak peeks at what the talk-show host got the first family of reality TV to dish about. “I think that’s so ridiculous,” Kim told Winfrey when asked if she ever feels exploited by her manager and mother, Kris Jenner. “First of all, we have to hire a manager. So regardless, someone is going to get that [job]. No one will fight harder for you than your own mother,” she said, according to E! News . “She knows us. She knows all of our moods. … We just get each other. We vibe. It works.” In true Oprah fashion, Winfrey asked all the hard questions, including getting Kim to open up about her short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries . “Everyone who’s asked was the marriage a publicity stunt? Why did she leave after 72 days? Her answer leveled me,” Winfrey said on her Facebook page . “Ok my friends I had the longest interviewing session I can ever recall, talking to ALLLLLLLL the Kardashians. I had never met them, nor seen the show,” Winfrey blogged. “I did a full on Kardashian Kram in preparation, watching major shows from every season. I genuinely wanted to know why they have become a cultural phenomenon? Why do so many people love to watch their every move and why do so many others love to hate them. Are they completely ego centered? Are they really ‘famous for being famous’ or is there something more? “I ‘GOT IT’ … those answers + more,” she added. “Those of you who watch the show know they hold nothing back. This interview I’d say was another level of forthrightness and honesty. Who surprised me the most? Scott. Lamar and Khloe. Kim.” Related Photos Kim Kardashian And Kris Humphries: A Whirlwind Romance

President Obama Raises Cash In The City With Sarah Jessica Parker

Obama also attended a campaign fundraiser that featured a private concert by Mariah Carey. By Gil Kaufman President Barack Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker Photo: After a hard day of trading stump speech barbs with Republican rival Mitt Romney during dueling appearances in the crucial swing state of Ohio, President Obama jetted to New York City on Thursday night for a pair of celeb-studded campaign fundraisers. His first stop was at the home of “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker for a money ball co-hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. The 50-person, $40,000-a-pop event, attended by celebs including Oscar winner Meryl Streep, Bravo boss Andy Cohen and fashion designer Michael Kors, included a moment of levity when Parker’s nine-year-old son, James, interrupted Obama during his speech with a round of applause, according to Politico . “He wanted to fire up the crowd,” Obama quipped. “He knows an applause line,” Cohen chimed in. “Right on cue!” “We’ve got as fundamental a choice this time out than we have had in 30, 40 or 50 years,” the president told the small group packed into a low-lit, art-filled room. “What we are going to have to do is present very clearly to the American people that choice.” Making a rare joint appearance with First Lady Michelle Obama, the president raised $2 million at the event, which included a private question-and-answer session between the commander-in-chief and his guests. Parker’s husband, actor Matthew Broderick, was not present due to his current starring role in the Broadway musical “Nice Work If You Can Get It.” The First Couple then moved to another glamorous 250-person, $10,000-a-plate dinner event at the Plaza Hotel that included a performance by Mariah Carey and some remarks from Alicia Keys. That soiree raised another $2.5 million for the campaign. While Romney has been filling his coffers with huge donations to his campaign and to Super-PACs supporting his effort from a number of mega-millionaires and billionaires, Obama has struggled to get the same kind of big-cash donations from his supporters. He continues, however, to have a solid (if somewhat diminished from 2008) base of entertainment industry boosters who have stepped up lately to help raise money, including George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Cher, Spike Lee, Julia Roberts, Ellen DeGeneres, Jessica Alba, Keys, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, Jon Bon Jovi and Cee Lo Green. Prop 8: Appeal to Overturn California Gay Marriage Ruling Shot Down; Supreme Court Battle Ahead?

A federal appeals court ruled today that it will not review a three-judge panel’s decision to overturn California’s Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage. Proposition 8 banned gay marriage in California, before it was ruled unconstitutional last year. Proponents plan to appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court. That would put battle for same-sex marriage on a national stage . The ruling comes after a federal court ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which says states don’t have to recognize gay marriages in other states and defines marriage as between a man and a woman for federal purposes, is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court could also decide to hear that case next year. In February, a three-judge panel in California voted 2-1 against the voter-approved gay marriage ban, upholding an earlier decision by Judge Vaughn Walker. The panel said that by denying same-sex marriage rights, Proposition 8 violated the equal protection clause and due process clause of the U.S. Constitution. The court wrote: “Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples.” Prop 8 supporters appealed, asking for a larger panel to review the case, and sponsors say they are eager take the matter before the Supreme Court. However, The February decision was narrowly written and focused on the measure in California, meaning the high court may not hear the case. Despite Prop 8 being ruled unconstitutional, and that ruling being upheld twice, same-sex couples in California will not be allowed to marry right away. As long as Prop 8 supporters have a chance to appeal, the measure stands; If the Supreme Court won’t hear the case, that would end the process. Same-sex marriage :

Defense of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional

An appeals court ruled Thursday that the Defense of Marriage Act, a law that essentially denies a host of benefits to gay married couples, is unconstitutional. The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston said the law, which defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, discriminates against gay couples. Ya think? The law was passed in 1996 by a Republican-led Congress at a time when it appeared as if Hawaii would become the first state to legalize gay marriage. Since then, many states have instituted their own bans on gay marriage, while eight states have approved it. Massachusetts was the first in 2004. The appeals court ruled the DOMA is unconstitutional because it interferes with the right of a state to define marriage and denies married gay couples federal benefits given to heterosexual married couples, including the ability to file joint tax returns. Somewhere in Indiana, this church kid is singing an angry song. During arguments before the appeals court last month, a lawyer for gay married couples said the law amounts to “across-the-board disrespect.” The couples argued that the power to define and regulate marriage had been left to states for more than 200 years before Congress passed this. An attorney defending the law argued that Congress “wanted to preserve a traditional and uniform definition of marriage” and maintains the power to define terms used to federal statutes to distribute federal benefits. The court did not agree. Last year, President Barack Obama announced the U.S. Department of Justice would no longer defend the constitutionality of the law. Obama voiced support for gay marriage earlier this spring, becoming the first U.S. President to do so. Your view on same-sex marriage :
