‘Red Tails’ Proves All-Black Cast Can Soar At Box Office

‘I feel like this was a matter of just proving them wrong,’ Ne-Yo tells MTV News of the George Lucas-produced flick. By Rob Markman Ne-Yo in “Red Tails” Photo: Lucasfilm Ltd. It wasn’t easy getting “Red Tails” into theaters, but singer/actor Ne-Yo believes that after opening at #2 at the box office , it was well worth the fight. “I feel like we definitely did what we set out to do, which was make sure these incredible men, the Tuskegee Airmen, got the recognition that they deserved for the incredible things that they did for this country,” Ne-Yo told MTV News of the George Lucas-produced film on Wednesday. “And [we] proved to Hollywood that an ensemble cast of black faces can put asses in the seats, basically,” he laughed. “So I feel like we served our purpose.” “Red Tails” tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American fighter pilots who battled deep-rooted racism, while fighting in World War II. Both Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr. star in the flick, while Ne-Yo, Method Man and Tristan Wilds have supporting roles. The historical piece hit theaters January 20, the Friday before Martin Luther King Jr. Day and opened second behind “Underworld: Awakening.” Not bad for the singer/songwriter, who was also named senior vice president of A&R at Motown Records . Considering the movie wasn’t especially well-received by critics, “Red Tails” did well in its first weekend, surpassing initial expectations. Lucas appeared on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” earlier this month and claimed that major studios showed no interest in the film when he went to pitch it. “It’s because it’s an all-black movie,” he said. “There’s no major white roles in it at all. It’s one of the first all-black action pictures ever made.” “We’ve come a long way from when Martin was marching in the streets and getting rocks thrown at him. We’ve come a very, very long way,” Ne-Yo said. “However, even with that being said, we got a long way to go. As a black person, period, we’re kinda constantly in a state of proving, which is something that I came to wraps with a long time ago.” Despite the studios’ lack of interest in the film, Ne-Yo decided to let the success of “Red Tails” speak for itself. “At the end of the day, you complain about it, or you prove them wrong,” he said. “I feel like this was a matter of just proving them wrong.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Red Tails.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Demi Moore Has Ashton Kutcher ‘Deeply Concerned’

‘He still cares about her and wants the best for her,’ a source tells People following Moore’s hospitalization. By Kara Warner Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore Photo: Getty Images In the days following Demi Moore’s surprising hospitalization Monday night, the details that have emerged are even more perplexing, particularly the latest reports that Moore was inhaling nitrous oxide from aerosol cans, also known as whip-its, the night the 911 call was placed from her home in Los Angeles. And although Moore has been released from the hospital , People magazine reports that the actress’ health scare has her soon-to-be ex-husband Ashton Kutcher very worried about his wife of six years. “Ashton is deeply concerned for Demi,” a source told the magazine. “He still cares about her and wants the best for her. But their marriage is ending and they are both moving on with their lives.” Check out photos of Demi and Ashton in happier times. Kutcher has yet to make any official statement about Moore, nor has he expressed anything about the matter via his frequently updated Twitter account. The “Two and a Half Men” star was out of the country working on an ad campaign when news of Moore’s hospitalization broke. He is reportedly back in L.A. to return to work on “Men.” The theories about why Moore turned to nitrous oxide in the first place all relate back to her very public and emotional split from Kutcher back in November, when Moore announced the breakup with “sadness and a heavy heart” after months of not-so-quiet rumblings that her husband had been unfaithful. Demi Moore’s hospitalization caps a rough patch for the actress. Friends have said that shortly after her split with Kutcher, the 49-year-old began to have trouble sleeping and developed a severe problem with prescription drugs.

Dear Bossip: I’ve Been Sleeping With My Ex-Husband To Get More Child Support Money & Now I’m Pregnant

Dear Bossip , I have been divorced for the past four and a half years. I really hate my ex-husband, but have been using poor judgment and still sleeping with him since I lost my job. I have no income besides the child support he pays for our three children. But, he says I sex him so good that he will give me extra money if I have sex with him, which I foolishly have done. One of my New Year resolutions was to stop having sex with him, money or no money. Now I had a suspicion that I was pregnant, and I took the test and it came back positive. I tried telling him but he is being rude and nasty because I reject his many requests and propositions for sex. I would not have a problem keeping this child but I am currently not in an ideal situation for another one. I have no job, no car, I recently lost my home, and my family and I had to move in with family. And before you go there, yes, protection was used. If it broke he lied or didn’t let me know. What do you think I should do? – Feeling Foolish And Lost Dear Ms. Feeling Foolish And Lost , Sigh! I can’t this morning. Where do they breed you women? Someone please show me the farm or cave where these women are being manufactured. I know you’re out there chewing crud and grazing in the fields. You really hate your ex-husband, but yet you continue to sleep with him? Hmmmm. Then, because you lost your job and have no income, your husband proposes that he will give you extra money for child support if you have sex with him, and your dumbass agrees?!?! SMDH! I’m sorry but the only women I know who have sex for money are prostitutes, tricks, and hoes. Is that you? Now, your trick ass is pregnant. You have no job, no income, no car, and you live with your family. And, your ex-husband treats you rude and nasty because you won’t continue having sex with him? Girl, I really am done this morning. You have got to be the most asinine stupidest person walking on two legs. Wait, do you walk on two legs or four? LMBAO! Then, you have the audacity and nerve to sit up here and type that you have no problem keeping the child, but your situation is not ideal. Do you have any brain cells in your head? Do you have any ounce of intelligence or common sense? Why am I even asking you these questions, of course you don’t have any brain cells or common sense. You’re a donkey. I don’t want to tell you what to do with the child you’re carrying because when someone like you knowingly and willingly sleep with someone and know the repercussions and possibilities of getting pregnant, and you know your ass is broke and disgusted, then you tell me what you should do? You’re the one who CHOSE to lay in the bed. You’re the one who CHOSE to spread your legs from east to west. You’re the one who CHOSE to sell your body as the hoe you are. And, now you want to know what to do? Girl, please step away from me and the computer screen before I reach through the screen and punch you in the face. But, here is the thing: You’ve been divorced for the past four and a half years. Sooooo, you’ve been having sex with him all this time? Girl, you’re giving me a headache. I don’t even want to answer your damn letter. How can you possibly hate someone so much, yet you lay down, spread your legs, and let them climb on top of you and do their business? Do you value yourself? Do you have any morals or values? Do you have any self-worth or self-esteem? You see, you’re the type of person that makes people want to smack the –ish out of you. I would reach all the way back and do a roundhouse jump and slap you in your MoFo mouth. How dare you ask me what you should do when you put yourself in this damn predicament? How dare you try to play victim and feel betrayed and misused due to the decisions that you made to keep sleeping with your ex-husband? There is a reason he is your ex! There is a reason you’re divorced! There is a reason he treats you the way he does! Please wake up and stop allowing yourself to be used and manipulated. Know your worth and value. Become a woman with a backbone and a stance. Oh, my bad, that requires you knowing that you are a woman with some worth and value. Think about this, and then I’m going to be done with you because it is taking everything out of me to know find out where you live and beat your ass with a belt and bust you upside your head to the white meat with the brass buckle. Your ex-husband does nothing to help you in your situation. You’re broke, homeless, no car, no job, and no money. At no point has your ex-husband made any effort to help you, yet he wants you to lay down with him and bang his lights out? I am truly led to believe that you want to get back with your ex-husband. You have a secret desire that the two of you will work things out and live happily ever after. You’re hoping that by continuing to sleep with him that your snatch will make him realize the error of his ways and come running back to you. Well, look here Ms. Hee-Haw, he hasn’t, he isn’t, and he won’t. You’re just someplace to dump his seeds and use as his personal nut rag. I am begging you and urging you to please think about your unborn child, and your other three children. Think about the situation you will bring this child into and how you’re emotionally, and mentally inept to care for this child. Think about your family you’re living with and how they may not be so receptive and welcoming of having you bring another child into their home. And, think about the mouths you have to feed right now, and how it is a struggle to feed and clothe your current three children. As matter of fact, why am I even asking you to think, that requires using your brain and we all know that you don’t have one. – Terrance Dean Hey Bossip Fam, what do you think? Golden Globes Led By George Clooney, ‘The Artist’

Host Ricky Gervais returns, as ‘Modern Family,’ Michelle Williams and Meryl Streep also take home statues on Sunday night. By Ryan J. Downey George Clooney onstage at the 2012 Golden Globes Photo: Paul Drinkwater/NBC/Getty Images On Sunday night (January 15), George Clooney and “The Artist” continued their awards-season domination while Ricky Gervais giddily piled on the humiliation as the 69th annual Golden Globes went down in Hollywood. The returning host kept his most pointed barbs confined to the monologue, while the Hollywood Foreign Press Association spread the love a bit more evenly than some predicted , with Globes for stars like Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams . Expected winners also took home statues, with Clooney nabbing Best Actor and “The Artist” winning Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical; the actor and film, like Best Supporting Actor Christopher Plummer and Best Supporting Actress Octavia Spencer have been cleaning up this month. “Cheers. So, where was I?” Gervais began, in an appropriately devilish red suit. The awards show itself was the comedian’s first major target (“the Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton”), followed by the Oscars (“when the man who said ‘yes’ to ‘Norbit,’ says ‘no’ to you, you know you’re in trouble”), the HFPA, Jodie Foster (Elton John looked unimpressed), Kim Kardashian (“I’ve sat through longer James Cameron acceptance speeches than [her marriage]”), Justin Bieber (“the only way that he could have impregnated a girl is if he borrowed one of Martha Stewart’s old turkey basters”) and more. Gervais introduced the first presenter of the night, Johnny Depp, with a plug for his own forthcoming HBO series, “Life’s Too Short,” which in one episode’s fit of “meta” casting features Depp as himself grilling Gervais about last year’s Golden Globes. Depp sipped from Gervais’ glass of beer before the comedian asked him if he’d seen “The Tourist” yet. “No,” Depp responded, as he stifled a laugh. (Depp went on to introduce a short clip about Martin Scorsese’s 3-D picture “Hugo,” which was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama.) Gerard Butler and Mila Kunis presented the award for Best Supporting Actor to Plummer for his role as a gay man who comes out late in life in “Beginners.” “What a wonderful welcome back to the home of King Kong, Rin-Tin Tin and all our youthful fantasies,” the 82-year-old screen legend said. “I must praise my distinguished competitors for whom I have the greatest admiration and to whom I apologize most profusely. And I want to salute my partner, Ewan, that wily Scot; Ewan ‘My Heart’s in the Highlands’ McGregor.” His last bit of thanks was reserved for his wife of 43 years, Elaine. “[Her] bravery and beauty haunts me still.” “Two and a Half Men” star Ashton Kutcher and supermodel Elle Macpherson were up next to present Best Actress in a TV Series – Comedy or Musical. The Globe went to Laura Dern for “Enlightened,” marking her third win overall at the event. Teleprompter problems plagued Rob Lowe and Julianne Moore as they introduced this year’s Miss Golden Globe (Rainey Qualley, daughter of actress Andy MacDowell). The pair went on to present the award for Best Mini-Series or TV Movie to “Downton Abbey.” Fans of the hit PBS series include Patton Oswalt, who once tweeted that the show is “Star Trek for tea drinkers!” “We’re already five minutes over,” Gervais chided when he returned to the stage, digging into overly long acceptance speeches. “You don’t need to thank everyone you’ve ever met … just do the main two, your agent and God.” The self-described atheist added that both had an “equal amount” of input into his career. From there, he brought up the scene in “Bridesmaids” where Melissa McCarthy’s character moves her bowels in a sink. “Amazingly, that’s still less demeaning than what most of you have done to make it in show business,” he told the audience. McCarthy and Paula Patton gave the Best Actor in a Comedy Series Globe to Kelsey Grammer for “Boss” (prompting viewers like @mindykaling to reminisce about the actor’s semi-legendary fall from a stage) and Best TV Series – Drama to “Homeland.” Jimmy Fallon broke out his Mick Jagger moves before presenting the award for Best Song and Best Score with Maroon Five’s Adam Levine to “The Artist” composer Ludovic Bource. Madonna and Elton John had earlier engaged in some red-carpet cattiness about the Best Original Song – Motion Picture category, in which they were both nominated. Ultimately, it was Madge who triumphed : Her win for the song she wrote for directorial effort “W.E.” followed a previous Golden Globe for her starring performance in 1996’s “Evita.” Seth Rogen and a typically stunning Kate Beckinsale soon followed. “Hello, I’m Seth Rogen, and I am currently trying to conceal a massive erection,” he said, which kept Beckinsale laughing as they introduced the nominees for Best Actress in a Comedy. Michelle Williams won for “My Week with Marilyn,” a film Rogen dryly called a “hysterical comedy” (the movie is arguably more of a drama, despite its categorization). “I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, so the person that I most want to thank is my daughter,” Williams said, speaking about Matilda Rose, her child with late actor Heath Ledger. She also thanked the HFPA “for putting in my hands this same award that Marilyn Monroe herself won over 50 years ago. Thank you, I’m honored.” Sarah Michelle Gellar and Piper Parabo presented Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie to Peter Dinklage for “Game of Thrones.” “I was talking to my mother in Jersey before I came out and she said, ‘Have fun but, ‘Have you seen Mildred Pierce? Guy Pearce is so good, he’s going to win!’. … I just love our moms, ’cause they keep us humble,” Dinklage said. He then drew attention to the story of Martin Henderson, a dwarf who suffered a serious injury reportedly inspired by a cruel “dwarf-tossing” competition. Ricky’s punch line when he introduced Madonna was little more than a well-placed clearing of his throat, which followed this: “Our next presenter is the Queen of Pop — not you, Elton, sit down. She’s all woman. I’ll give you some clues: She’s always vogue. She’s a material girl. And she’s just like a virgin … ahem.” The Queen of Pop was ready with a quick retort: “If I’m still just like a virgin, then why don’t you come over here and do something about it?” she challenged. “I haven’t kissed a girl in a few years — on TV.” “Seriously nuts… Seriously,” Spencer said after Bradley Cooper introduced Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. “The Help” star has been stacking up awards this month for her part in the breakout hit. “With regard to domestics in this country, now and then I think Dr. King said it best: ‘All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance.’ ” She then sped through her thank-you’s in a comedic nod to the show’s habit of playing off winners mid-speech. “Table 10, thank you again!” she concluded. Reese Witherspoon introduced “The Descendants,” which she noted was directed by “my friend, Alexander Payne,” with whom she made the classic dark comedy, “Election.” Later in the show, Robert Downey Jr. introduced the film “The Artist.” Morgan Freeman is only the second African American actor to receive the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award; he accepted it 30 years after Sidney Poitier was similarly honored in 1982. The 84-year-old Poitier received a standing ovation when he came out to introduce Freeman. “In my humble opinion, sir, you are indeed a prince in the profession you have chosen. We thank you, Mr. Freeman, for raising the level of excellence yet another notch. Welcome aboard, Morgan Freeman,” he said. The 74-year-old Freeman was honored for a career that includes iconic roles in movies like “Driving Miss Daisy,” “Glory,” “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Million Dollar Baby.” Angelina Jolie gave Martin Scorsese Best Director – Motion Picture for “Hugo.” “Sit down, sit down, everybody!” he commanded. He thanked the HFPA for all of the work they do to help ensure the preservation and restoration of cinema, which tied directly into “Hugo.” Gervais joked about Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas’ accents when he introduced them, prompting a long, non-English response from Banderas. “Ricky, I don’t understand [Banderas] either,” Hayek teased. The pair gave the Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical to “Modern Family,” with Columbian castmember Sofia Vergara accepting with a short speech in Spanish that one of the show’s producers comically mistranslated. Michelle Pfeiffer introduced Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse.” Presenters Jessica Biel and Mark Wahlberg were up next. Wahlberg complimented Biel’s pronunciation of Jean Dujardin (Best Actor winner for Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical), before Queen Latifah introduced “The Help.” Then Gervais was back onstage. “Nearly there, nearly there,” he said at the two-and-a-half-hour mark. “Our next presenter is British, like me. But unlike me, he’s won an Oscar, for his brilliant portrayal in ‘The King’s Speech.’ He’s also swooned over by women,” Gervais went on, also noting Colin Firth’s high profile with critics. “What you don’t know about him is he’s very racist. I’ve also seen him punch a little blind kitten. Please welcome the evil Colin Firth!” Firth pretended to kick Gervais when he came out, but the actor was smiling. “As I was on my way in, I noticed some very angry religious people outside threatening us all with brimstone … for our sins. … What they don’t realize is we have Ricky.” “When Ricky Gervais’ deal fell through and they came to me to play Margret Thatcher,” Meryl Streep began as she accepted Best Actress, Motion Picture for “The Iron Lady.” Clooney helped pass her glasses to the stage so she could better read her speech, but she stayed off her notes and offered heartfelt appreciation for all of the women nominated in the category alongside her. “I just want to thank my agent and God — Harvey Weinstein, the punisher,” she added to much laughter and applause. Jane Fonda presented Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical to “The Artist,” as even the dog from the film took the stage. Natalie Portman, Best Actress for “Black Swan” at last year’s Globe’s, was the next presenter. Gervais pointed out that she’s nominated for nothing this year, seeing how she took time off to have her baby. “She’s learned that valuable lesson that all of you knew: never put family first!” Portman gave the Golden Globe for Best Actor, Motion Picture – Drama to Clooney for “The Descendants.” The star first gave a shout-out to Brad Pitt, followed by a “thank you” to Michael Fassbender “for taking over the frontal nudity responsibility that I had,” before making an off-color joke that involved golf. Alexander Payne accepted the Best Picture, Drama award from Harrison Ford shortly afterward. Sound off on the 2012 Golden Globes winners in the comments below!
