Watch: Tim Burton Talks Frankenweenie, Shows Off Footage In Featurette

Just in time for its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest Wednesday night, Disney unleashed a nearly four-minute featurette complete with footage galore from Tim Burton ‘s Frankenweenie . “It’s based on my relationship I had when I was a child with my dog,” Burton notes in the EPK, available below. “It’s probably your first big relationship in your life.” Burton first conceived of the idea of Frankenweenie as a full-length, stop-motion animated feature, but due to that ever-present challenge of budget, he instead made a live-action short which was released back in 1984. But now Burton’s full-length vision is finally set to hit the big screen. Frankenweenie ‘s voice cast include four actors who worked on Burton’s previous films, Wynona Ryder ( Beetlejuice , Edward Scissorhands ), Catherine O’Hara ( Beetlejuice , The Nightmare Before Christmas ), Martin Short Mars Attacks! ) and Martin Landau ( Ed Wood , Sleepy Hollow ). The story revolves around a boy and his beloved dog. After unexpectedly losing his four-legged best pal Sparky, Victor uses his science skills to bring his dog back to life – “with just a few minor adjustments.” He tries to conceal his sewn-up reincarnation, but Sparky escapes and Victor’s schoolmates, teachers and the entire town learn that getting a “new leash on life can be monstrous.” “Victor is a mad very internal boy and he’s a mad scientist as well, which is always good,” quips Burton. Over 200 puppets and sets were used to create the the feature. It is filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D. Official Boilerplate: From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.   A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” was filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D. The talented voice cast includes: Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron, Conchata Ferrell and Winona Ryder.   Presented by Disney, “Frankenweenie” is directed by Tim Burton, produced by Tim Burton and Allison Abbate, from a screenplay by John August, based on a screenplay by Lenny Ripps, based on an original idea by Tim Burton. “Frankenweenie” releases in U.S. theaters on October 5, 2012. The featurette includes interview snippets with Burton and others. [ Movieline will have additional coverage of Frankenweenie and other films from the upcoming Fantastic Fest later this week .]

TRAILER: Jesse Eisenberg Gets Kidnapped By Mom’s Drug Dealer in Why Stop Now

Jesse Eisenberg landed an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network and most recently, he is a love-sick architect opposite Alec Baldwin in Woody Allen’s To Rome with Love . Next up, the young star plays a piano prodigy who tries to check his mother (played by Oscar-winner Melissa Leo) into rehab. Things, however, go awry when he is taken hostage by her drug dealer (hate when that happens) and he is suddenly off on a wild adventure. The film was formerly titled Predisposed when it debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Despite the obvious that’s revealed in the trailer – namely the aforementioned mother who is hooked on drugs and a kidnapping by a drug dealer, the film appears to have some laughs. Phil Dorling and Ron Nyswanner co-direct the film and wrote the screenplay. IFC Films will release the film August 17th.

MGM Sues to Block Raging Bull II

The unofficial and slightly bizarre-sounding Raging Bull II sequel may be currently filming , but that will be moot if original Raging Bull studio MGM gets its way in a lawsuit filed this week. Claiming breach of contract over a 1976 agreement signed by boxer Jake LaMotta, MGM claims they had first offer-rights to any sequels to the Martin Scorsese classic — and since the makers of Raging Bull II are billing the pic as a sequel (the numeric title is hard to argue around), the studio is crying foul. If MGM has its way, not only will the film never see release, its makers could face compensatory damages of an amount intended to deter future imitators. Could this be the end of Raging Bull II and similar faux-sequels? Developing… [ Deadline ]

George Zimmerman Bond Hearing: Judge Delays Decision as Trial Preview Unfolds

A Florida judge delayed his decision today on whether to let George Zimmerman out of jail on bond a second time. Meanwhile, both prosecutors and the man accused of murdering Trayvon Martin and laid out elements of their case at the bond hearing. Judge Kenneth Lester revoked Zimmerman’s $150,000 bond earlier this month, believing the defendant and wife Shellie Zimmerman intentionally tried to mislead the court about their financial situation in April so he would be granted bond. Zimmerman denies lying and wants the $150,000 reinstated. George Zimmerman Bail Bond Hearing The pair did not disclose more than $100,000 raised through a legal defense fund website; Zimmerman’s wife was also charged with perjury. In a two-hour-plus hearing on Friday, Zimmerman asked for his re-release, which led to the defense and prosecution conducting a mini-trial of sorts. The state argued that Zimmerman is a criminal who should not be released, while the defense put forward evidence that he acted in self defense. The defense played the Trayvon Martin 911 call from February 26, the night he was killed. In April, Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder. “There’s someone screaming outside. It sounds like a male. I think they’re yelling help,” a woman says in the call, as someone screams for help. Zimmerman’s lawyer Mark O’Mara then called his father, Robert Zimmerman, to the stand. He identified the screams heard on the call as his son’s. “It was absolutely George’s,” he said. In cross examination, prosecutors said Zimmerman claimed Martin had covered his mouth, contradicting his assertion that he screamed for help. O’Mara did not put Zimmerman on the stand. He briefly drew the ire of the judge when he asked whether Zimmerman could make a statement to him without facing cross examination. Lester called it a “backdoor” tactic and refused the request. At his first bond hearing, Zimmerman apologized to Martin’s family in open court.

Justin Bieber ‘Really Can Act,’ Mark Wahlberg Says

For upcoming basketball movie, Wahlberg tells MTV News he’ll push Bieber to get a ‘strong performance out of him.’ By Kara Warner Mark Walhberg Photo: Clearly, Justin Bieber has a lot going on with the release of his new album Believe, Tuesday’s live MTV News special and planning a world tour, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about fostering his movie career. Both Mark Wahlberg and Bieber have spoken positively about their planned buddy basketball movie. Wahlberg has said it will be in the vein of the Martin Scorsese-directed “The Color of Money,” starring Tom Cruise and Paul Newman, except with Wahlberg playing the older reluctant mentor and Bieber playing a “wisecracking kid who’s very talented.” “It’s set in [the world of] street hustling basketball,” Wahlberg told MTV News recently while he promoted his upcoming comedy “Ted.” “Obviously, [Bieber] is a very good athlete. People have seen him on MTV ; he can play. But I also really think he can act.” Wahlberg said he’s willing to put in the work in order to get a great performance from the young pop star/ aspiring actor. “There’s not going to be any shortage of pushing him in getting that kind of strong performance out of him, if we get to make the movie,” Wahlberg said. “We’re just going to have to make him realize that he’s playing a character so he can’t have the same hairdo,” he joked. And is there a chance there will be any singing in the film,
