WTF! Woman Caught With 24 Gerbils Hidden Under Her Skirt At Taiwanese Customs Checkpoint

The 60-year old woman was attempting to smuggle 24 gerbils into the country under her skirt. Taiwanese woman caught smuggling 24 gerbils under skirt https://t.co/kmaEc450B5 pic.twitter.com/KMdAmj93hU — Taiwan News (@TaiwanNews886) January 14, 2019 The Daily Mail reports, Coast Guard officers spotted her walking awkwardly through Shuitou Port in Kinmen and decided to stop and search the woman – named only as Wu. After lifting up her skirt they discovered the 24 rodents packed into plastic bags and strapped to both her legs. When asked why she had them, Wu said she had been bringing them back into Taiwan for friends. Wu had confessed that each gerbil had been purchased at a pet store in China for a price of 50 Chinese yuan (NT$220) for each male and 150 Chinese yuan for each female. Ms. Wu was transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office on charges of violating the Infectious Animal Disease Prevention and Control Act. 2019 is something else. Continue reading →

Leonardo DiCaprio Buys into Car-maker Fisker The actor has become an equity investor in the Anaheim, CA-based car-maker start-up that produces environmentally sustainable autos. Take a Gander at Ang Lee’s Life of Pi

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee’s upcoming 3-D adventure Life of Pi is based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Yann Martel. The fantasy-adventure follows “Pi,” an Indian boy who survives a shipwreck and is stranded on a boat in the ocean with a Bengal tiger along with some other charming critters. Tobey Maguire plays Martel in the film, which stars newcomer Suraj Sharma as the young Pi. The shots are ethereal and fantasy 3-D may be Lee’s next calling card post Taking Woodstock and Lust, Caution (not to mention his award-winning Brokeback Mountain ), which were decidedly less illusionary as this latest film appears to be. And, who wouldn’t want to make friends with a cuddly Bengal tiger anyway? Lee began shooting Life of Pi , which also stars Irrfan Khan, Gérard Depardieu, Shravanthi Sainath, Suraj Sharma and Tabu, in Taiwan and India earlier this year. 20th Century Fox will release Life of Pi November 21st.

Avengers Amasses Overseas Cha-Ching In Initial Rollout

Marvel and Disney’s The Avengers is set to close out the 11th Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday night, but the blockbuster has already started cashing in abroad, where it’s an early hit with audiences. The superhero blockbuster featuring Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson opened in 10 markets this week, earning a total of $17.1 million internationally. The haul included opening-day records in New Zealand and Taiwan, as well as new marks for a Disney release in Australia and Italy. As Bloomberg notes, the studio could use the hit after its recent $200 million loss on John Carter . [ Bloomberg ]
