Well, you’ll have to hold on just a little bit longer, but while you’re waiting, check out what we know about “Iron Man 3” so far, in our MTV News cheat sheet. Iron Man 3 Even before the smash success of the original “Iron Man,” Marvel Studios was addressing the possibility of multiple sequels . Sure enough, after the movie opened to over $100 million , Jon Favreau was trying to decide between “Avengers” and “Iron Man 2” — by now, you might be able to guess which he chose. On the verge of “Iron Man 2” opening, Favs told us that he was ready to have Tony Stark suit up again after the “Thor,” “Captain America” and “Avengers” movies came out. He also revealed that he wanted the Mandarin to be the villain . The Ideas The franchise stars are already pondering the possibilities of where Tony Stark could go after taking on Whiplash and other assorted foes in “Iron Man 2.” Gwyneth Paltrow wanted her Pepper Potts to see some action ; Robert Downey Jr. had some strong ideas about where he wanted to take Tony ; and even the creator of War Machine weighed in, saying he hoped the filmmakers would finally uncork the beloved “Demon in a Bottle” story line from the Marvel comics. The Villain Favreau spoke extensively about how he hoped “Thor” and the other films would make magic more plausible in the Marvel universe so he could incorporate the Mandarin into “Iron Man 3.” Even Faran Tahir, the actor who captured Tony Stark in the original film, laid the groundwork for his return in the role . 3-D in 2013? Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has expressed his love for 3-D technology , as has Favreau . So will “Iron Man 3” go down that road ? We’ll have to wait and see. Green Lantern May Be Orange

I know they’re doing some nontraditional things with the costume for The Green Lantern , but did they really have to mess with Ryan Reynolds’s face? Our good friends at the WOW Report noticed that in a paparazzi picture snapped on the set, the actor was seen sporting a shade of fake tan that goes past “Michael Kors” and teeters on the edge of “insensitive blackface routine from Mad Men .” Take a powder, guys! Which Joss Whedon Characters Resemble Members of The Avengers?

The more I mull it over, the more Joss Whedon makes sense as the director of Marvel’s high-profile feature film adaptation of The Avengers . His time in the director’s chair isn’t extensive, but neither was Jon Favreau’s before helming Iron Man , and Whedon’s got plenty more geek cred and comic book experience than Favreau ever did. In fact, once you start to really examine Whedon’s television work, you might see that his characters aren’t so dissimilar from the superheroes who will be populating The Avengers . Let’s take a look at who resembles who:

Joss Whedon Tops Louis Letterier for Avengers Gig

(You may remember Clash of the Titans helmer Louis Letterier was also on that shortlist .) Tale of the Tape: Joss Whedon and Louis Leterrier Battle for The Avengers

And you thought you could go even one day without reading something about Marvel. What started out as a possible April Fool’s Day joke is now confirmed as truth. According to the LA Times blog, Hero Complex , Marvel Studios has placed cult director Joss Whedon on the short-list to direct their super-sized super hero menagerie, The Avengers . Scheduled for 2012, the film will bring together all the Marvel heroes (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk) under one green-screen enhanced sky and presumably make tons of money so long as Marvel fatigue hasn’t set in by then. If seeing “short-list” and ” The Avengers ” in the same sentence seems a bit familiar, that’s probably because just last week , Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier said his name was on there as well. This has all the makings of a knock-down, drag-out war! After the jump, find out which director has the inside edge.
