Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman to run for vice president on a major party ticket, died on Saturday at Massachusetts General Hospital, a spokesman for her family said. She was 75. The cause of death was complications from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that she had battled for 12 years, according to a statement from her family. Ferraro, the first woman and the first Italian-American to run on a major party national ticket, was Walter Mondale’s vice presidential running mate in 1984 on the Democratic Party ticket. She earned a reputation for speaking her mind on the issues of the day, sometimes generating controversy for her outspoken opinions. R.I.P. Source

A family spokesperson confirms that Ferraro succombed to blood cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital around 10 a.m. In 1984, the three-term congresswoman from Queens joined Walter Mondale’s Presidential ticket in an election against Ronald Reagon and George H.W. Bush. The latter duo won 49 out of 50 states to retain the White House. Soon after her passing, Mondale paid tribute to his former running mate, remember her “a remarkable woman and a dear human being” and adding: “She was a pioneer in our country for justice for women and a more open society. She broke a lot of molds and it’s a better country for what she did.” Sarah Palin , who followed in Ferraro’s Vice Presidential footsteps in 2008, also released a statement on her Facebook page: “She broke one huge barrier and then went on to break many more. May her example of hard work and dedication to America continue to inspire all women.”

Perhaps a more likely explanation than Selena Gomez being punched in the face is that Gomez simply has a cold sore, also known as the Herpes simplex virus. Outbreaks can occur as a result of stress, such as that coming from dating the biggest teen pop star in the world. That could be the case as well, but let’s face it – it’s going to be pretty difficult to find out exactly what happened. With his adorable smile, humble attitude and “mop” styled hair adored by young girl’s everywhere, he was to become “the next big thing.” Well, for the last two years, Justin has won the hearts of children, tweens, teens, young people and many more up the age ladder. While most other teenagers were gaming, toiling over which outfit to wear to school to keep their “cool” status and hoping that the girl or boy they like, likes them back, Justin has been singularly focused for the last two years on work. Hard work. It was just in 2009 that his debut single, “ One Time ” was released worldwide. The single hit its height in the top ten in Canada. The release of My World , followed in the fall of 2009, and was ultimately certified platinum in the United States. He’s been on fire ever since. It is clear from the teenage female fans that it is Beiber or bust. While he has been criticized for his popularity, he is highly regarded by many and considered a “teen idol.” I have to admit that his boyish face and seemingly humble disposition makes him hard not to like. The ultimate confession is that I have his music on my iPod (don’t judge me). Justin’s gift of himself and visibility to his fans is appearing to backfire. With each teenage girl believing that they could one day play the supporting role in Justin’s life, it was a blow to their hearts and egos when he was recently seen walking and kissing Selena Gomez, who is two years his senior. The fans took their pain to the ether and let loose posting death threats and other hurtful messages about Selena on Twitter and other blog sites. Unfortunately, Justin’s commitment to his fans circled back to bite him in the bum. I think if the fans of other teen idols like Michael Jackson and David Cassidy could have tweeted when they were rumored to be dating, we may have seen similar behavior. What would cause these teenagers to act in such a manner? Outside of raging hormones, that is. I believe that Justin’s visibility without a “girl X” by his side for these last two years led young fans to believe he would always be available to them. Then, he chooses someone they do not approve of. She may not be the “wholesome” match for the Beibs that would have for him. Most importantly Selena is not them. In addition and unfortunately, the internet is a great place for people to put their pain without any future guilt of watching the insult land on the eyes and hearts of the person it was directed towards. We watched this ugly scenario play out when Phoebe Prince in Massachusetts committed suicide in 2010 because of the relentless online bullying that was unleashed on her. Over a year since he was arrested in North Reading, Massachusetts, Adam Jasinski has been sentenced to four years in prison. The champion of Big Brother 9 – who actually used his reality show winnings to set up a drug ring that included co-star Matt McDonald – was busted in October 2009 for trying to sell 2,000 oxycodone pills to a government informant. Smart, he is not. It’s a good thing Adam Jasinski has experience living with strangers in tight quarters. In handing down the sentence to the 32-year old, U.S. District Court Judge William Young decreed: “You were drug trafficking, and you were drug trafficking until they caught you. You got to a position where you thought that the rules didn’t apply to you.” Said Jasinski, who admitted to being treated for bipolar disorder and drug addiction: “I’m sick. I won $500,000 and I blew it all. I apologize. I’m a mess… Give me a chance to get out and find out who I really am.”

The diatribe was similar to one Kim unleashed in New York back in November. “I think this other bitch got a song with Keyshia Cole, right,” Kim told the audience at the Hippodrome club on Friday, referencing Cole’s single “I Ain’t Thru” featuring Nicki. “Coming at me and the motherf—in’ other queen, Mary J. Blige. Me and my girl Mary J. Blige about to eat these bitches alive where they won’t even f—ing exist no more and erase their f—ing social security number! We gon’ remind them who the f— we are! I’m not playing with this bitch for 2011. I’m saying, we can rock together but, bitch, you ain’t taking nothing from me!” The spat that began last year looks like it will continue to run into the New Year. Lil’ Kim has spoken out in interviews about Nicki Minaj, revealing that the two were set to collaborate before the veteran rapper felt the newcomer wasn’t paying her proper homage.
