Image via New Dress A Day If you’ve ever stumbled upon a sad looking frock in a thrift shop with no clue how to salvage the material there’s a new (to us) blog that will show how in 365 ways: New Dress A Day . For one year, the blog’s resident DIY’er has sworn off buying new clothes and instead is sifting through flea markets, garage sales, and secondhand shops for clothing that she then upcycles into modern apparel. The catch: She has a $365 budget for the year. She bares all the

An Ode to When Kathy Griffin Was Actually D-List

Browsing clips from Kathy Griffin’s newest Bravo stand-up special Kathy Griffin Does the Bible Belt , I kept having to remind myself the material was new. The anecdotes about an erratically behaved Sharon Stone ? The clip about cable-TV indulgence Hoarders ? It all felt like gags from five years ago, when Griffin could get away with insider-as-outsider observations without it feeling like an obligatory part of her self-appointed D-List stature. Now, on the eve of her new special and sixth season of My Life on the D-List , it becomes painfully clear what we’ve lost since Griffin’s star — and original appeal — exploded into a cycle of dishonest repetition.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’ Video: A Guide To Its Madonna References

Aside from initial ‘Vogue’ comparisons, there are traces of ‘Like a Prayer,’ ‘Human Nature’ and other Material Girl clips. By Kyle Anderson Lady Gaga in “Alejandro” Photo: Interscope Records When the brief preview for Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” video appeared during the singer’s appearance on “Larry King Live” last week, many people immediately noticed the nod to Madonna’s “Vogue.” It was all there: the sharp black-and-white photography, the muscular dancing, the spartan set, the iconic hairstyle. It would not have shocked anybody had she simply re-enacted the “Vogue” video in its entirety. But as it turns out, the full version of “Alejandro” — which premiered Tuesday (June 8) — is a healthy combination of a number of different references, nods and homages to a bevy of Madonna videos. The “Vogue” references are certainly there, as Gaga spends a large chunk of the video in that same spartan set in black-and-white. But the rest of the clip features Gaga in a number of different costumes — including a red nun’s habit and some sort of steampunk headgear — in a handful of different scenarios (most of which involving Nazi imagery). In addition to “Vogue,” the opening sequence seems to recall Madonna’s “Evita” period (when she made “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” a hit). Gaga is dressed to mourn whomever is in the casket behind her — perhaps the titular Alejandro? — and it would be easy to assume that she’s attending a state funeral, which would mean Gaga flipped the gender roles in the original story of the Per

‘Glee’ Creator Is ‘Entertaining’ Idea Of Britney Spears-Themed Episode

After Lady Gaga and Madonna eps, Ryan Murphy says he’s interested in another pop diva. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images With “Glee” already paying homage to pop stars like Lady Gaga and Madonna , it seems like a natural fit for them to complete the blond pop-star trifecta with an episode dedicated to the one and only Britney Spears next season. Last week, Spears’ manager, Adam Leber, suggested the idea via Twitter , and now show creator Ryan Murphy has admitted that he’s thinking about doing an episode entirely dedicated to the pop princess. “I’m interested in the Britney Spears idea. I’ve always loved her,” he told EW.com . “I’m entertaining it. I think young kids would like that.” In the meantime, Murphy has a slightly more controversial blonde in mind for a musical homage on the hit Fox show. “I actually ran into Courtney Love the other day and talked to he,” he said. “She’s interested. I would love to have the kids do a Courtney Love episode one day.” Not to leave the male icons out of the equation, Murphy said he’s also considering episodes dedicated to Billy Joel and Led Zeppelin. “The key is the songs in the catalog have to have a certain degree of theatricality,” he explained. The Gaga episode is set to air later this season, and Madonna has shared how much she loved the “Power of Madonna” episode that aired two weeks ago. Murphy has said the show is considering a second episode devoted to the Material Girl’s songs. “[Madonna’s] a smart cookie. I mean, that introduced her music to an entire new generation.” What Britney songs would you like to see on the show? Tell us in the comments! Related Videos It’s The Return Of ‘Glee’! ‘Glee’ May Revisit Madonna Catalog

Creator Ryan Murphy is in talks to make another Madonna-themed episode. By Jocelyn Vena The cast of “Glee” in the “Power of Madonna” episode Photo: FOX After fans tuned in Tuesday night to see the students of McKinley High strike their best “Vogue” poses on the all-Madonna episode of “Glee,” it seems show creator Ryan Murphy is looking to get the Material Girl onboard again for another themed episode. Murphy’s and Madge’s camps are currently in talks to secure the rights to use six more songs in an episode that would air early next season, according to Entertainment Weekly. In a statement, Murphy said, “Madonna and her people are into it and want it to happen.” And Madonna has already given Tuesday’s show her stamp of approval, saying she “completely appreciated” the glee clubbers’ interpretation of her iconic songs, which included “Like a Virgin” and “Vogue.” “The entire cast was amazing,” the pop queen said. “They’re all so talented. I especially loved Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and Kurt Hummel’s (Chris Colfer) characters. Ryan Murphy did a great job bringing all these elements together. [Daughter] Lola loved the show too. I wish I went to a high school like that. … If only.” The stars of “Glee” were overjoyed about their first chance to remake the classic pop tunes: “It’s a piece of television history,” gushed Kevin McHale, who plays wheelchair-bound Artie. “Jane Lynch doing the ‘Vogue’ video … it’s frame-by-frame perfect to the original. Throughout the entire episode, it’s just Madonna all the time — like, there’s secret stuff in the background … It’s amazing how they fit all that into one hour. It’s kind of exhausting.” Which other Madonna songs would you like to hear in an episode of “Glee”? Tell us in the comments!

Hey, Glee: Popular Struck Madonna’s Pose First

Now that Glee ‘s “Vogue” sorta-parody has become a source of viral fixation, it’s time to pay dues to the other Ryan Murphy show with a lookalike Madonna tribute : Popular . The beloved ’99-’01 WB series featured Melissa Etheridge’s ex Tammy Lynn Michaels as high school queen bee Nicole Julian, and during one pep squad rehearsal, Nicole summoned the noir lighting and geometric poses of the Material Guru’s gayest (and greatest) video. So how does she measure up to gay-and-great Jane Lynch?

Madonna Has a Crush on Schu

The Material Girl is speaking out about Glee in anticipation of next week’s “Power of Madonna” episode, though she’s not really commenting on the show itself (or even Jane Lynch’s frame-by-frame copy of her iconic “Vogue” video) as much as she’s publicizing her affection for the show’s sole white-man rapper: “I think Mr. Schuester is very cute. I’m glad he’s doing such a good job empowering all the girls.” Translation: “Matthew Morrison, if you play your cards right, you can be my next Vanilla Ice.” [ Billboard ]

Sue Sylvester, Glee Cast Cover Vogue

This is an amazing video. While Glee returned to Fox last night with a new episode , the Internet is buzzing today over the song that aired after the installment itself concluded. Featuring Jane Lynch as her character of Sue Sylvester, and along with a couple other Glee cast members, the show actually put together a shot-for-shot recreation of Madonna’s “Vogue” music video. It’s elaborate, it’s entertaining and it’s incredible that a TV show went to this length in order to promote an upcoming episode (tune in next week for a lot more of the Material Girl !). Seriously, if this doesn’t make you a Glee fan, nothing will. Sit back and watch the video below. Sue Sylvester Vogue
